Just look at any young bowler coming through for them and they do the basics so well. Everyone seems to have the perfect seam position and invariably hit the right areas .
Just basics of the game . Nothing too flashy .look at how much Bumrah has improved.
On the other hand who do the likes of Shaheen and Rauf turn to ?

Even their batsmen seem so well taught .
You look at some of our young bowlers and they cant even get the seam position right .
MRF acacademy has been immense for them.
Even Bangladesh has improved by bringing struc ture and discipline to their game.

Along with the domestic structure we need to invest in better coaches at the lower
levels.

The main difference has been the shift in their mentality which started under Ganguly in 2000/2001, and they simply build on it.

They were the only team to show balls to the great Australians, and we saw a wave of young, dynamic Indian cricketers such as Sehwag, Yuvraj, Dhoni etc. who were completely different to the previous generation of Indian players.

Subsequent captains like Dhoni and Kohli have built on that shift in mindset and BCCI have also invested a lot to ensure that the domestic players and the junior players reflect the mindset and the attitude of the national team.

IPL has also been a game-changer. It is incredible and is the ideal platform to prepare young Indian players for the pressure and intensity of international cricket.

This isn’t a generational boom - Indian cricket has transformed for good and they will forever remain an elite team.

How do you teach work ethics? From seeing the people around you? Who do our young players see around them? Hafeez, Malik, Inzamam? Are they an inspiration? No. Do they work hard? Not really.

Coaching works when they are put under pressure to perform while pocketing big money - when they are also put under pressure for their place. Having a fitness test and letting some players canter through it is abysmal and shocking and sets the worst possible example for everyone else. How can a professional setup allow something like this?

Agreed
But it’s also important to note that changes started happening once med pace foundation inspired srinath prasad etc . Ganguly started winning as he had zaheer , prasad , balaji srinath agarkar to support kumble and bhajji .collectively india started having decent bowling attacks due to fast bowlers coming in

Bcci and ipl are important but u must not forget how india a india u 19 etc is most imp for bcci . Selection is still based on good ranji performance

Pitches and local state associations have improved - ipl is finishing academy not talent producing academy

India is winning as the bowlers are getting groomed correct .rehab is good

I don’t think so, honestly. I believe England & Australia still has the best grass root coaches and development programs. India is too big to manage such scale programs across 1.34bn people.

What they have is passion - cricket is almost a religion there and millions of kids are just desperate to do well. And, they have role model - proper cricketers to make idols.

Bring back international cricket to Pakistan 🇵🇰 and things will improve dramatically otherwise it is very hard for players to gain confidence playing in pattas in UAE and other places all over the world

You cant win in professional sports with passion alone. Coaching and grassroot infrastructure has really improved in India which you can see in the way how states with no cricket pedigree are now winning the Ranji Trophy. I am from Kerala which is more a Football-Volleyball-Athletic powerhouse rather than cricket but even we now have plenty of world-class cricket stadia and have someone like Dav Whatmor as our Ranji Coach. And then you can imagine hows it for the other states.

We need to change our mentality. Playing in Pakistan will only make minimal difference. This Indian team will come to Pakistan and give us a spanking every year if we don't change our mentality.

Bhuveneshwar was bowling at 127-130 when he debuted, now he regularly bowls over 140.

Bumrah was also around 129-133 on his IPL debut and now he's bowling close to 150.

Don’t disagree that at all - but the point is best in world, which I have my question mark. For a population of 58 million or 19 million with several other sports to pick, the infrastructure & proper coaching facilities that English & Aussie schools, academies can provide, it’s impossible to match for India even if it was a G8 country.

You are giving me example of one Dav Whatmore in Ranji ... have you checked the coaching profile of 18 Counties, or their reserve teams? Have you checked how many former FC cricketers are working as professional cricket teacher/coach in England, Australian schools, clubs? Do you have any idea how many cricket specific grounds are there for teenage tournaments in UK or Aussie schools, communities, villages?

I give one example from another sports - France has state of the art soccer academy - Clarifontain, in a valley near Paris. It’s the best soccer academy for players & developing coaches in world by some distance. I won’t go to developing players (France’s bench is enough to showcase that), but they have a coaching program which has several levels - minimum is 12 months program for former players and maximum is a masters level 3-4 year program that develops very few selected modern soccer coaches even with very little or no playing career. Each year, several former players of lower division (upper division players earn €10K+/week on average 😩) completes that 12 month program for their level 1 badge, and they are mostly appointed as soccer teacher in schools ....... France now has over 6000 schools with a former pro footballer, a standard soccer ground, a dedicated gym & one or more such level 1 pro coach as their soccer teacher. Germany has similar 8000+ schools.........

Having said that, no question grass root coaching has improved multiple fold there.

Dude, did I ever tell India’s grassroot coaching is the best in the world? Dont read between the lines. My post was in reply to your ‘passion’ line which is why we Desis don't win much in sports.
Having played soccer and volleyball at a semi-pro level in Kerala, I know that very well.If you have to win, you need to put in a professional setup in place. You can see that in Hockey too where India is now miles ahead of Pakistan now which was not the case few years back.

This is the problem with Pakistanis, you try to build an argument on facts and figures, they'll counter it with passion, jazba, cornered tigers, 92 ka worldcup etc. SMH
