To surprise few who thinks India is an over-hyped team, no one could whitewash India since 1990 in an ODI series (Home or away). Needless to say India plays most amount of cricket, so this record is even more impressive.

Few Close encounters:

1) India toured SA in 2007 for 5 ODIs and lost 4-0 with first match being washed out without a ball bowled.

2) India tour of NZ in 2014 when India lost 4-0 with 1 game being a draw

Below are the list teams got most whitewashes (since 1st Jan 1990):

1) Zimbabwe - 29
2) Bangladesh - 25
3) West Indies - 16
4) New Zealand - 11
5) Pakistan - 7
6) England - 6
7) Sri Lanka - 5
8) Australia - 5
9) South Africa - 2

Can any team break this record and dare to whitewash India in an ODI series?

Wow. Didnt knew that. I doubt if any team will whitewash them in ODIs in the near future.

It will have to be a Pakistani job (provided it is a 3 match series) if it does ever happen.
I reckon Pakistan came closest to whitewash them in India but sadly they couldnt chase down 150 in the 3rd ODI :(

Agreed that its a great record, was not even aware.

Why it will have to be Pakistan to break it, if Aus/Eng/SA/NZ could not do it in their homes? Just curious.

For us playing India is not just a game, it is war, and that is the kind of mindset needed to break this record.

That is an amazing record - especially in the modern era - even considering 90s when Indian team wasn't so good.

Staggering. Take a bow!

Credit goes to the strong batting lineup. It's very hard to outbat such a lineup in all matches of a series.

Since ODIs are batting dominated and India has heavy batting lineup for 2 decades now, it's very hard to beat them in all games, even if some of the top players are missing.

Good record and India has been a good ODI side for couple decades now. The 2007 series was India's worst series and it has been mentioned in the OP. The other series where we got close to being whitewashed was in 2013, we lost 2-0 in SA and third was washed out. SA has been pretty poor for us overall so the 6-1 win earlier this year was very sweet.

Ridiculous statistical quirk that means absolutely nothing. This is an achievement in the same way that not committing a crime is an achievement for a normal guy.

A team that plays most number of games but never being whitewashed even on a 3 match series for almost 3 decades in both home or away is ridiculous?? How?

That's a remarkable feat! Credit to Ganguly, Dhoni and their man-management as well. We are blessed to have an incredible batting culture and that helped us immensely with our mediocre bowlers during 2000s. But with the likes of Kohli and Shastri making some terrible decisions in the Team selection, I believe a Whitewash is inevitable soon. I truly believe Rahul and DK solve our middle order problems and pitch in when Top order fails. Can't wait to see the likes of Shaw, Gill, Pant and Vihari in our playing XI. Would love it if this happens before Asia Cup. We need 2 better replacements/backups for Burmah and Bhuvi and boy! This team looks invisible across all formats.

Saving a whitewash is an achievement now? Since when did it become something to be commeded for?

Very good record when you consider they rotate their players regularly.

Can anyone tell tge data how many teams india whitewashed at tge same time?

Losing all completed matches in a series is a whitewash. It’s not like a draw in test cricket.

Because you don't know the result/consequence of that washed out match, so a complete whitewash cannot be claimed :D

In that case Pakistan's 1992 world cup triumph can be termed sheer luck because most of the teams (except Pakistan) suffered bad luck due to rain-interruption!

Right after CT 2017 when Pak got whitewashed in NZ 5-0.

Please be serious. I would have said the same no matter which team made this "record". It is hardly an achievement big enough to get the kind of praises it is getting in this thread. Not to mention India failed to win a match in many of the ODI series in this period.

Please provide a reasonable logic why preventing a whitewash is an achievement for a non-minnow side.

It is not an achievement, it is a coincidence & testimony of playing consistently well.

When did Pakistan whitewash India in anything last time? We are only aware of certain whitewash of World Cups till date :D

Stop being pessimistic and start playing to find out.

WC history is a different thing altogether but as it stands you do know the score otherwise in terms of head to head. :afridi

Thank you for acknowledging its not an achievement.

I agree its just a coincidence because the 4-0 series which India lost could have been a whitewash if it didnt rain or other factors didnt come into play.

Playing with Pakistan is not in our hands...its upto govt. Now whether I agree with govt stance, that is a different discussion. When Vajpayee allowed India to tour Pakistan in 2004, we beat you both in ODI and test series. Lakshmipathy Balaji was hitting sixers to Akhtar for fun. We also repeat the same feat in 2006 tour. Similarly Pak beat us in 2005 and Aane do tour.

So a series with Pakistan will be 50:50. But what is this attitude "Play with us to find it?" Bhai you are Pakistan and not Steve Waugh's Australia or Lloyd's West Indies.
LOL

They came close to being whitewashed by NZ but one game was a thrilling tie.

Take subtle sarcasm with a pinch of salt. :afridi

India got whitewashed in 2007 by SA.4-0 with one match washed away should be regarded as whitewash.

Lol. Why ? Why that washed out match shouldn't be considered? Who told u that India would not have won that match if that match hadn't been washed out?

Bangladesh got passed the group stage in last CT because BD-AUS match got interrupted by rain when Australia was cruising to victory.

Does ur ridiculous logic apply in this case too? Does this mean that Bangladesh actually didn't play the semifinal of last CT?

useless record. A team can lose 4 matches and then win next one it won't change the result of series. In that dead rubber the team who won the series may test their bench strength and other team could be able to sneak a win.

And Bangladesh should have been out of the ct in group stage.

First of all i never count the semifinal stage of CT of Bangladesh. It was mainly the blessing of the God of rain.Bangladesh beat New Zealand but it wasn't enough to reach semifinal. And about the Indian record ,on paper the 2007 4-0 drubbing in the hands of SA may not be a whitewash but it carried all the flavour and juice of a whitewash. It was also a mercy of God of rain that the figure wasn't 5-0

They why all other teams couldn't manage it (avoid whitewash?) That shows they are even more useless than this team!

India has superior head to head record against England in ODI compared to Pakistan! West Indies head to head record is still good against most teams! After a point of time this head to head records don't matter a lot. But as always Pakistanis prefer to live in old fantasies...

as I stated, there are many factors like main players rested and bench strength being tested. I never said useless team. I said useless record.Who cares!

but but but Pakistan has Malik, who just scored a ton of runs against Zimbabwe!

and, he's also been winning us matches against NZ, England, Australia, SA. Legend. Will help us avoid the next whitewash.
