India is the world's largest importer of arms

Well if you poke your nose in our internal matters then we can do the same. I often read Indian criticism of Pak military for their kid's studying abroad, that also has nothing to do with you people at all. You don't see Pakistanis moaning why all kid's of Bollywood stars are studying abroad.
Im not sure who is studying where, i never keep track of Pakistan’s politics as it doesnt affect me one bit. As far as Pakistan’s army and their kids goes, well its their choice, i just dont see why an average Indian should have problem with that, and if someone indeed does then he/she just have some issues. Similarly, If Pakistanis have issues with Indian govt spending Indian tax payers money on Indian defence then its just insecurity nothing else.

Your brothers here surely worry about where the kid's of Pak generals are studying. Not insecurity at all on Pak's behalf. Here as on other internet sites many subjects are discussed regarding such issues. With Pak, China and India all nuke powers no one has anything to worry about. We don't need to tell you about your many issues, the whole world knows.

India will receive S-400s in October-December, everything going according to schedule: Rosoboronexport CEO

India will receive the first batch of the sophisticated S-400 anti-aircraft surface-to-air missile system from Russia in October-December this year, a top official of the Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Thursday.

"Everything is going according to schedule," Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev told the Interfax news agency.

The first deliveries of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to India will take place in October-December this year, Mikheyev said.

The S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system. The 'Triumf' interceptor-based missile system can destroy incoming hostile aircraft, missiles and even drones at ranges of up to 400 km.

Indian specialists have arrived in Russia and began training with the S-400 in January 2021, the agency said.

In October 2018, India had signed a USD 5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of the S-400 air defence missile systems, notwithstanding warning from the then Trump administration that going ahead with the contract may trigger US sanctions under CAATSA.

Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act or CAATSA is a tough US law that authorises the administration to impose sanctions on countries that purchase major defence hardware from Russia in response to Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its alleged meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections.

In 2019, India made the first tranche of payment of around USD 800 million to Russia for the missile systems. The S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system.

In December, Russia had said that implementation of its ongoing defence deals with India including the supply of a batch of S-400 missile systems is advancing well notwithstanding the threat of US sanctions.

Military to go for indigenised clothing and equipment, time for gloves from Myanmar, rain bags from Sri Lanka over

Since 100% FDI is allowed in defence sector, the companies from which the clothing and equipment was being imported should be asked to set up shop in India for impetus to the local textile and leather industry.

The ministry of defence has a list of 209 items including cruise missiles, next generation corvettes, tank engines and towed artillery guns which have been placed under negative import list to boost Atmanirbhar Bharat programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Import restrictions on the second list of 108 items will progressively come into effect from December 2021 to December 2025. The first list of defence imports under negative category was issued in August 2020.

While both the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) and Department of Defence (DOD) are on the same page as far as indigenisation is concerned, the fact remains is that Indian military still imports clothing and equipment from abroad despite a thriving textile industry in the country.

The unsavoury truth is that Indian gloves for Siachen front is imported from a company in Myanmar, while the sleeping bags for the glacier are manufactured by a company in Sri Lanka. While a Kanpur based company is supplying military boots to Israeli army, the Indian Army is getting specialized boots made in Italy. The list goes on.

During his tenure as secretary (defence production), the present defence secretary Ajay Kumar pushed for indigenisation of military clothing was back in 2018 but the Indian Army replied back with a long term indigenisation plan. Secretary Kumar told the military that since 100% FDI is allowed in defence sector, the companies from which the clothing and equipment was being imported should be asked to set up shop in India for impetus to the local textile and leather industry. He pushed for Indian shoe-makers for military as there was a thriving leather industry in Kanpur and Agra.

With the military clothing now under department of military affairs (DMA), its secretary and present Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat is pushing for total indigenisation of clothing. In fact, recently the CDS visited a Bengaluru based clothing manufacturer to ask him whether he could supply sleeping bags, camouflage tents and jackets to the Indian military.

The answer was that the qualitative and quantitative requirements of the military were designed in such a way that the Indian manufacturers found difficult to compete in an unfavourable environment. For instance, the heavy snow parkas were tested for being rain proof despite the fact that it never rains in Siachen Glacier with temperatures way below zero.

“Even though military clothing budget would be between ₹200-400 crore for the Indian military, there is no reason for them to seek foreign manufacturers when the same quality is available with Indian textile manufacturers. Or, there is always an option of asking the company to set shop in India under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative,” said a senior defence ministry official.

What’s the use of all these weapons when they are getting black n blue by the stick wielding Chinese PLA in Laddakh.

Nuclear war heads rule out any major and large scale army conflict with Pakistan. So what exactly will India do with these weapons?

Not weapons, in this instance talking about clothing and gloves etc.
Though para 3 does say about 209 items which India will stop importing and make indigenously and this seems to be a move in the right direction.

India has begun deploying the Russian S-400 air defence missile system in the north-western state of Punjab, local media reported on Tuesday.

The Indian Air Force is deploying the S-400 on the western border to counter possible threats from Pakistan and China, Asian News International (ANI) reported.

The S-400 batteries will be capable of dealing with airborne threats from Pakistan and China, ANI quoted local sources as saying.

Russia has started supplying India with the S-400 Triumf, a mobile and surface-to-air missile defence system via air and sea routes that will be promptly deployed in the designated locations, it added.

The first deliveries of Russia's powerful S-400 air defence missile system are expected to be completed by the end of this year, with the unit being operationalised in the next few weeks.

The air force will focus on the eastern front after completing its deployment in the Punjab state, according to the report, and provide resources for training personnel in the country.

In Russia, several Indian Air Force officers and personnel have already gotten training on the system.

On Dec 6, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said Russia had begun deliveries to the country of the S-400.

In 2018, India and Russia signed a $5.5 billion contract, putting India at risk of US sanctions.

The US has long tried to deter countries from buying military equipment from Russia, threatening them with punitive measures under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), which it has used against Turkey, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.

Despite Washington's warnings, New Delhi moved forward with the purchase, arguing that it has strategic connections with both Russia and the US.

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin reiterated during his March visit to India that all US allies and partners should shun Russian hardware and “avoid any kind of acquisition that would trigger sanctions.”

Turkey has argued that the CAATSA sanctions are unfair, as countries such as Greece have used Russian air defence without any sanctions. Contrary to US claims, the S-400 does not interact with US-made fighter jets and so does not endanger Turkey’s status as a longtime NATO ally, Turkey has also said.
