India, Pakistan to face off in Emerging Cup in Bangladesh

India and Pakistan are all set to face each other in Cox’s Bazaar in Bangladesh ahead of the much-awaited clash in Champions Trophy in England.

The two teams would feature in the Emerging Cup, which has an interesting format. It’s a tournament essentially for U-23 players but four teams — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka — would be allowed to feature four national players and without any age limit.

Four other teams — Afghanistan, UAE, Hong Kong, Nepal — would play their national sides.

It would be an ODI tournament authorised by the Asian Cricket Committee and would be held between March 15 to 26.

“Yes, India would be sending a team to the tournament. It’s an ACC tournament and so we would go there. This is not a bilateral India-Pakistan series, and so this is different,” MV Sridhar told The Indian Express.

Considering the calendar, India would find it difficult to send four national players to the tournament, but according to Sridhar, the selectors would select players they want to assess at the higher level.

Good idea. India can send players who aren't in the test side eg Dhoni, Yuvraj etc whereas Pakistan can send anyone as PSL will finish and West Indies tour is couple of weeks after this. Wouldn't send someone who plays all 3 formats though.

I actually forgot about Irfan who isn't all that bad tbh and could / should make it ahead of Shinwari. Mudassar has always been too expensive; he's probably still too raw, which is why he's probably yet to play at the PSL too

I want Zia to play this. He's been around for some time now, and it'll be interesting to see how he progresses from here.

Also forgot about Usama Mir; he should probably be in the squad. I'd have him as the 16th member, although he would have to compete with Shadab to get into the XI, and Shadabwould probably get the nod over Usama because of hisadditional batting ability.

As far I know,the pitch and outfield is very good,among the best of bd but no stadium actually and don't have good drainage system. Players facilities along with other facilities like media,zym and other is not available there till now as it is still in building phase.

This tournament is in March and IPL is in April-May. And Emerging cup in 2013 has List A status too. This will also have List A status. No clashing at all

That can happen only if BCCI forces them, but there's slim chance of that since private entities owning the IPL teams would not be happy.

As for list A, it doesn't matter too much since the level of competition will likely be lower than A team tournaments.
