India revokes IOK's special autonomy through rushed presidential decree; Challenge in court [#262]

Article 370 was explicitly temporary. It says so in the law that created it. Regarding "plebiscite", it requires Pakistan to hand over all of PoK to India, including the part that it sold off to the Chinese, as a pre-condition for plebiscite. And 70 years later, there have been so many demographic and historical changes, that asking for "plebiscite" is as foolish as it is unrealistic.

Instead of fantasizing about re-doing partition, we should all be working together to ensure peace, security and better lives for Kashmiris.

Instead, you have people throwing grenades in shopping centres, 2 year old children getting shot because their family dared to harvest apples from their farms, schools being burned down - these are not the actions of people fighting "oppression" these are the actions of those who want to keep the pot boiling.

Yes it was temporary till the Plebiscite. No it doesn't need Pak to hand over all of their Kashmir to India. It requires Pak army to leave LOC not to hand it over to India.
But if India are not agreeing for a Plebiscite how can Pak army leave and put us in danger of Indian army who would then invade us in Azad Kashmir and occupy us.

Yes we should be working together to ensure peace especially in Kashmir but look at Indias treatment of Jammu and Kashmir for many many years. Atleast here we roam around and don't have army in streets or occupying us they only on the LOC to protect us. In Jammu and Kashmir they have been many rapes and murders and use of pellet guns by Indian Army. Even after removing Article 370 you put the the Kashmiris in lock down in their own homes. No Internet so they can't reach out and show the world what's happening. Some fortunately have.
Arrested and detained all ministers some who were even Pro India.
And see the statements of BJP people of what they think of Kashmiri that tells the story.

And their can be a Plebiscite which Pakistan want but India will never agree as they know after the way they have treated Kashmiris over the years they will never want to be part of India.

Any ways I leave it to that as most Indians just defend BJP non stop and back them even with the atrocities they commit.

Regarding your blatant lie of Pakistan had to hand over Kashmir to India for the Plebiscite to take place.
The UN asked both Pakistan and India to withdraw troops then the people of both sides of Kashmir will decide. So please don't lie just to try proving yourselves right when your not and the ones occupying Jammu and Kashmir.

The UN asked both Pakistan and India to withdraw troops then the people of both sides

Wrong. Pakistan has to withdraw all their troops while India gets to keep a minimum troop presence to defend any unexpected Pakistani aggression.

So say the referendum took place and the people got to decide and the people decided to stay away from India and Pakistan (pure hypotheisis) and they want the side of Kashmir which has been given away to China by Pakistan, what happens now?

Our resident Indian posters were saying things will be back to normal within days, Muslims in Kashmir will now start to live in Switzerland etc.

Doesn't seem the case so it was more of defending barbarism of their beloved nation, not any care for the Kashmiris.

We nearly in 2020, Hari Singh, Pandits are history. The people suffering now should given rights, no deflection can justify their rights being taken.

Leave Switzerland Kashmir is becoming worse then Syria, with every business collapsing, economy damaged, people are literally dying with mental problems. I was at home during last three months and I have never seen such attrocites happening in my life. Kashmir has collapsed in every way.

I hope you and your family are well brother. Could you please start a thread writing your experience, telling us what is going on?

FM Qureshi, meanwhile, spoke to his counterparts in Turkey, Spain and France and visited the Italian embassy in Islamabad. In all his conversations, he spoke about the continuing lockdown and communication blockade in India-held Kashmir that is making it difficult for Kashmiris to deal effectively with the pandemic, crippling US sanctions against Iran, and the need for debt relief for financially struggling economies.

We have been given 2g. Do you even remember 2g??? Our children are suffering. They cant have online classes like the rest of the world when they are ones who need it most after 7 months of lockdown. Our doctors are unable to download and share latest research. Yesterday a doctor from Srinagar hospital shared his problem that he cant even download a 24MB research document.

I cannot watch an informative 5 minute video without it getting buffered it a million times. I cannot download a movie or stream it to watch at home during this time. YES, i said that. Every bit of it is important for living a normal life. And guess what, i have been paying for 4g internet all this while with no refunds. Are you our wellwisher???? Then file a petition in court on our behalf that atleast our money be refunded. If not then stay silent when "outsiders" complain about the abuse of fundamental rights here in Kashmir.

You should be die with shame before even saying something like that. May you and your families suffer like we have. May you and your families feel the desperation and the humiliation that we faced. That's all i am going to say.

Opposition sees a deal in release of Farooq, Omar Abdullah

NEW DELHI: The release of National Conference (NC) leaders Farooq and Omar Abdullah in quick succession has led to whispers among some opposition leaders about a possible deal with the Centre, although many of them have formally welcomed their release.
“We have no idea what all transpired before the release of the Abdullahs. But we won’t be surprised if they now gradually shift their main political discourse, from the opposition to the abrogation of Article 370 to demand for restoration of statehood to J&K and domicile clause as conditions for assembly polls, something that suits Delhi as well,” a senior opposition leader told ET on condition of anonymity.
While the authorities gave old age as the reason for the release of Farooq Abdullah, 82, on March 13, in his son Omar’s case it cited the Covid-19 outbreak. Much of the talk stems from the Abdullah family’s history of striking tactical understanding with the government of the day in Delhi, including the Indira-Sheikh Accord of 1975, the manner Farooq, after having left India to live abroad when militancy started in J&K, was made to join the J&K assembly election conducted by the Narasimha Rao regime and the way the NC pragmatically co-existed with the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

Another opposition leader said, “Clearly, the Centre and BJP want a multi-cornered contest in the Valley during the next J&K assembly polls. There appears to be a deft carrot-and-stick policy by using Apni Party (recently launched third front) and other cards. The NC seems to have fallen for the bait. Now, watch out PDP other smaller outfits!”

Omar Abdullah, on his part, made an appeal for Mufti’s appeal after he was released, among other comments on Twitter, including on the fitness routine he had evolved during the detention period.

Opposition leaders also pointed to what they termed potentially significant events preceding the arrest and release of the Abdullahs. For instance, just three days before they were arrested on August 5 last year, the Abdullahs had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And on July 31, the media had reported that Farooq Abdullah was grilled by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged Rs 113 crore scam in the J&K Cricket Association which the CBI was also probing.
Within days of their arrest, they (and others including Mufti) were booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA). In between, the Centre “encouraged” talks among assorted smaller parties of J&K to form a Third Front – now named Apni Party, led by ex-PDP leader Altaf Bukhari – which was seen as aimed at weakening the NC’s traditional hold in the Valley, where the PDP had emerged in some parts and the Congress now only has a few fading patches.

By early February came reports of former RAW chief AS Dulat holding a discreet “courtesy meeting” with detained Farooq, after permission from the Union home ministry. Later, NC central secretary Rattan Lal Gupta wrote to the chief elector officer stating that the NC was “a strong votary of democratic process” and also wished to participate in the second phase of the panchayat polls, provided the “roadblock” (detention of Abdullahs and others) was removed.

Many opposition parties noted that the NC’s letter to the CEO not only did not make a demand for reversal of abrogation of Article 370 as a condition for joining panchayat polls but the party also shifted from its stand of boycotting the first phase of the polls. With the NC taking the lead, other opposition parties too were forced to follow suit, although the polls were later postponed. Many leaders are now waiting to see whether authorities will take steps to release others as well, including Mufti, Shah Faesal and Sajad Lone.

Quite a perspective to look at since nowadays Internet is taken for garanted.

Is 2G only for wireless internet or does it also apply if you are using a comuputer with a wired internet connection?

Having scrolled some of the posts in this thread and its apparent the misinformation / information gap in general public today.

People are ready to accept opinion based articles of extreme left / right wing news outlets (not reputable ones or ones with prior history of reporting fake news) rather than first hand account of actual person's testimony of living through this time.

I fear there will be a time when India will have its on history while rest of the world will have a different history. All this to ensure hindutva power reign.

Ever since I witnessed from firsthand the lies from Indian sources during the whole "surgical strike" I have become very skeptical of news from Indian sources.

Any outlandish news should be confronted with initial skepticism but Indian sources deserve a special dose especially if it involves Muslims.
