I Will go with this

Openers: Shaw and Agarwal
Batsmen and WKs: Pujara (can open if required), Kohli, Gill, Pant and Vihari .... and a WK - Saha if fit
Pace Bowlers: Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Yadav, Ishant .... and Pandya (AR)
Spinners, 2 from: Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep (chances of playing 2 spinners would probably be at Sydney)

What could be the probable Aus XI come the Adelaide test? Form and injury permitting, I can a see a line-up like the following firming up.

Usman, Finch, Renshaw, Smarsh, Mmarsh, Head, Paine, Cummins, Starc, Lyon, Hazlewood

A fairly serviceable XI capable of getting the better of most teams in their own conditions. Bar South Africa perhaps. Feel that Finch could take up the role of Warner. But a Smith sized hole would be hard to fill. Bowling as good as ever.

The likely Indian XI they'd be facing would be

Rahul, Shaw, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Pant, Bhuvi/Pandya, Kuldeep/Ashwin, Shami, Ishant, Bumrah

The batting is pretty equal. Kohli's presence makes Indian batting feel more weighty but they'd be up against a fire breathing Aus attack.

Pacers -

Shami
Yadav
Bumrah

Spinners-

Leg spinner = Chess Player
Kulddep

Openers
Dhawan
Rahul

1 Down
Shaw / Pujara

Middle
Kohli
Rahane
Pant

Jadeja as 12th man

Bhuvi and Khallel for backup

Ashwin and Krunal for Backup

Shubhman Gill and Manish as back up

Dhawan is dropped. Now it will be Shaw. Not happy about Rahul. But he will play I guess.

Shaw, kl rahul, mayank
Pujara, kohli, rahane, hanuma vihari
Allrounder - pandya
Spinners-jaddu, kuldeep
Fast bowlers-bumrah, ishant, shami, bhuvi, siraj, umesh.
Wk-pant.

Drop ashwin and show him his reality.

My first choice pace attack would be Bumrah, Ishant, Shami and Pandya. Kuldeep plays as the only spinner. We could play a sepcialist batsman in place of Pandya but that would increase the workload on fast bowlers. Playing Jadeja as the lone spinner because of his batting would be a defensive move. If the pitches have something in for bowlers, this attack has good chance to pick 20 wickets.

From what I have heard, Hardik is only going to be fit and available after mid-November so he is unlikely to be in the test squad, at least for the first 2-3 matches. So based on that my 17-member squad will be:

KL Rahul
P Shaw
C Puraja
V Kohli
A Rahane
H Vihari
R Pant
R Jadeja
U Yadav
I Sharma
J Bumrah

That's my playing XI for the 1st test. And my 6 reserves are:

M Vijay
D Karthik
R Ashwin
K Yadav
M Shami

And my last slot is a choice between Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma. And I know I'll get a lot of flak for this but I'm gonna go with Rohit.

My XVII would be

KL Rahul
PP Shaw
C Pujara
V Kohli
A Rahane
R Pant
H Pandya
R Ashwin
I Sharma
U Yadav
J Bumrah

The Reserves are
M Agarwal
D Karthik
H Vihari
K Yadav
M Shami
M Siraj

1. I will play Pandya in the first couple of tests. Playing a batsman over him, will put too much strain on the fast bowlers. Playing a bowler will weaken the bowling.
2. I would also go with KL Rahul for the 1st coupe of tests. If he doesn't perform, then I will bring in Mayank Agarwal
3. If Pujara doesnt perform for the first 2-3 tests either, I will bring in Mayank Agarwal at 3
4. If Rahane fails, I will bring in Hanuma Vihari.
5. Will also play Ash in place of Kuldeep for 1 test. If Ahswin doesnt perfor, then Kuldeep comes in.
6. My main 3 bowlers are Umesh, Ishant and Bumrah. Shami and then Siraj would be my backup bowlers.
7. The other players I considerded as reserves were Jadeja (but taking 3 spinners to Aus seems like an overkill), Karun Nair (not much to choose between Nair and Vihari, but Vihari seems to be the one selectors prefer), Khaleel Ahmed (to get a leftie bowler in, but he has no first class experience).

bhai, kab tak will you give Rohit a free pass. He has only performed at home, that too against the likes of WI and SL. Has failed in SL, WI, SA and Aus. HE should be no where near the test team. Offers 0 to the team.

I know, yaar. But I have a gut feeling that the management will pick him for this tour and play him at number 6. That's why I put him in my squad as well.

Personally I really like Hanuma Vihari so if it was my choice I would play him at number 6 in Adelaide. But I think team management will go with Rohit to add some experience.

First test against Australia: -

Shaw
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Pant(wkt)
Pandya
Jadeja
Shami
Ishant
Bumra

Shaw
Rahul (One final series)
Pujara
Kohli *
Rahane
Pant +
Pandya (One final series that too because on flat Aus pitches u do need 4 seamers and we don't have a pace AR other than this joker)
Jadeja
Ishant
Shami
Bumrah

KL Rahul
P Shaw
C Puraja
V Kohli
A Rahane
H Vihari
R Pant
R Jadeja
U Yadav
I Sharma
J Bumrah

Btw this is the XI I think the team management will pick. My personal XI would be:

KL Rahul
P Shaw
C Pujara
V Kohli
A Rahane
R Ashwin
P Shaw
R Jadeja
I Sharma
U Yadav
J Bumrah

I don't see India selecting so many young players for the Australia series. It's an important series and they would like their experienced players to carry the batting. At most it will be Shaw, Pant, Vihari with Agarwal as the reserve opener. India might even bring back Rohit Sharma who can do well on those flat Australian wickets.

1) Rahul
2) Shaw
3) Pujara
4) Kohli (c)
5) Rahane
6) Rohit
7) Pant (wk)
8) Jadeja
9) Umesh
10) Ishant
11) Bumrah

12) Dhawan
13) Vihari, apparently
14) Shami
15) Siraj
16) Ashwin
17) Backup keeper

This is probably the squad they will go with although I don't see how Ishant is going to be useful in Australia. Also, Bumrah is big question mark as well.

Rahul (only for first two tests, if he doesn't perform, drop him)
Shaw
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane (same as Rahul)
Vihari
Pant
Pandya
Ishant
Bumrah
Kuldeep

If it was upto me i would give Siraj or Khaleel a debut.

Also i don't know why are people selecting Jadeja, his bowling is going to get mauled in Australia.

Forget about the fact that anyone can get such squads wrong. Your mistake in the post above is that you are ignoring certain rules of the thumb. For example, no player who has been dropped (on account of form, not injury or rest) for the home series is going to get a look into for a tour abroad. That rules out both Dhawan and Rohit. Vijay may yet get a look because of his form in County cricket. Pandya would walk right back in the squad because he wasn't dropped on form, and the matches are in Australia where his pace AR status would be valued. It'd either him or Bhuvi.

The team to take field come Adelaid would be the following, allowing for forced changes. Take it to the bank.

Shaw
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Pant
Pandya/Bhuvi
Jadeja/Kuldeep/Ashwin
Shami
Ishant
Bumrah

Because with a total of 5 right arm pacers across both sides, they will always create a rough outside the off-stump for a left-hander. And Aussies have 5 left-handers in their lineup. Jadeja can use that rough better than Ashwin/Kuldeep because it'll be perfectly in line for him to pitch it on the rough and spin the ball into left-handers.

Too Spin heavy. Unless its a spin friendly pitch, you dont need both Ashwin and Jadeja in the squad. One of those should be replaced by Pandya.

From the news of what I have heard, Pandya won't be fit before mid-Nov. So it's unlikely that he will be playing the test series. That's why I have both spinners in the side. Otherwise I would have had Pandya in Ashwin's place.

That could be a bit of a blow. Perfoming Pandya and Ashwin/Jadeja as allrounders add balance to the team. Without even one we will either be batting light or bowling light. Neither bodes well for the team.

Having said that Pandya hasn't really performed consistently yet. So, its not as big a blow as it may seem.

It is good to go with 5 bowlers provided the 5 batsmen are capable enough. That certainly is not the case with India. It sounds very heroic when you make sounds like 'attacking', 'Bowlers win you matches', 'Never back down' etc in the media. But you have to be aware of your team's weaknesses which are plenty. Mould your tactics to cover the weaknesses. But that certainly is not the case with the legendary coach - captain duo. India should go with an extra Batsman and if that means one less bowler , so be it, tough luck. Bowlers might win you matches, but batsmen would have to put the team in a situation where bowlers can win the match.

Rohit can return seeing how well he plays bounce and his record in Australia, albeit in a different form. I did not know that Dhawan was dropped but like Rohit, I feel he would do well if picked.

I also hope that India pick both Ashwin and Bhuvneswar Kumar in their playing XI for the first test. The Australian batsmen could do with the confidence that comes from scoring 600 runs and use it to out-bat India yet again.

My 17 member squad
Openers: Shaw, Rahul, Mayank
Middle order: Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Vihari
WK: Pant, Ishan Kishan,
All rounders: Pandya, Bhuvi
Spinners: Ashwin, Jadeja,
Pacers: Ishant, Umesh, Bumrah, Shami

No going back to Vijay and Rohit please. Though there will be huge lobbying for both of them.

Rahul has to step up now. Has wasted enough opportunities, selectors and team management's patience must be running thin. Get some form back in ODIs and T20s and carry forward the momentum to Aus tour else, he could become a T20 specialist.

Likewise with Rahane. As a vice captain of the side, he just hasn't done enough. His contributions in the middle order are vital for us to score 350-400 away from Asia regularly.

I won't be surprised if management teases the fans by bringing back Parthiv and Dhawan.

You must not worry about the confidence of Australian batsmen. After pummeling the overrated Yasir Shah in his home and humiliating Pakistan with their so-called weakest team ever, they would be ready to take India on.

Surprise australi with this sqaud :)):)):))
Murli vijay
Ambati Rayudu
Cheteswar pujara
Kedhar Jadhav
Manish Pandey
Saha (wk)
Amit mishra
Axar patel
Ashok dinda
Vinay kumar
Shardul Thakur

I won't be surprised if management teases the fans by bringing back Parthiv and Dhawan.

Dhawan won't be going. 100%

But Parthiv might go. But most probably it'll be DK. Either way, there will have to be a reserve keeper in the squad for away tours. Just as a safety net. If fit, Pant will play all 4 tests for sure.
