India squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 announced

That won't happen.

He is the most talented cricketer I have ever seen, he can do anything if he puts his mind into it.

Greatest left handed talent since Yuvraj Singh for India. If anyone can replicate anything close to what Yuvraj did to England and Australia in 2007 WT20, it is none other than the great man who breached the Gabba fortress of the greatest cricket nation. :inti

Lol look at these two posts. You guys take this f@nboyism to another level. :91: :inti

Axar is a pirated copy of Jadeja. He will be exposed in Australia. :inti

I agree with BVB here. His intentions were different when he posted this but somehow he has got it right here. :91: :inti

Axar's technique vs short bowl is not good enough, he is basically what Jadeja was 5 years ago, bowling wise as good( but in Australia even that may not be as effective) but batting wise not as technically proficient as Jadeja( for Aus conditions).

Questioned and thrashed the selection of each and every player in the squad. So, all in all it is a totally useless squad.
Wonderful thread, enjoyed it.

Hopefully, the players being criticized are as trash as we are led to believe. I would love for Islam Makhachev and Pakistan to both win during the October 22nd/23rd weekend. :yk

My India XI would focus on their strength, which is the batting.

1) Rahul
2) Kohli
3) Rohit
4) Pant
5) Pandya
6) Karthick
7) Ashwin
8) Patel
9) Kumar
10) Bumrah
11) Arshdeep

Batting until #8, 6 decent bowlers and Kohli opening will ensure India's innings won't lose their way.

Apart from hardik, india has 4 pacers and 3 spinners in 15. Many other squads have opted for 5/6 pacers in 15. Zampa does decent on aussie tracks but which combination is the better choice you think??

Other teams are banking on their pacers, India are banking on their spinners and trundlers even though they know the WT20 is in Australia.

Why Ravichandran Ashwin Over Ravi Bishnoi And No Mohammed Shami In India's T20 World Cup Squad? BCCI Source Reveals Talking Points Of Selection Meet
A BCCI source close to the development revealed the reason behind picking some of the players ahead of the others for the T20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia in October.

New Delhi: With India, having announced their 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup, a lot of questions were raised regarding the exclusion of senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami and young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, as many believed both the Indian cricketers deserved a place in the T20 World Cup team. While there were no real surprises in the selection of the squad, Arshdeep Singh got the nod ahead of Deepak Chahar and Ashwin made it to the World Cup-bound team in place of Bishnoi as star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel got back into the side after missing the Asia Cup 2022 due to injury.

A BCCI source close to the development told media sources that there was hardly any scope for debate in terms of Arshdeep’s selection considering the kind of performances he had put on display in the Asia Cup. Arshdeep was brilliant in final overs for India and even though Rohit Sharma’s side didn’t get over the line in both the games, the young left-arm pacer did raise the hopes of an unlikely India win.

Deepak Hooda was always going to make it to the T20 World Cup squad, given the fact that he is a great fielder, can play as a floater in the batting order and more importantly can chip in with a couple of good overs when the front line bowlers are getting hit, the source further revealed.

With Bhuvneshwar Kumar certain to play, Chahar could only find a place in the reserves. Chahar has every reason to believe he was unlucky but with both being similar kind of players, the selectors opted for the more experienced one among the two.

Ashwin’s selection may have come as a surprise to many but the selectors felt that his fingerspin can come in handy for the team in pitches that offer a bit of bounce in Australia, let alone the bigger boundaries that can give him the required cushion as well. Ashwin also comes with a lot of experience and can be used at any point during a T20 match – powerplay, middle-overs or right at the end.

A lot of former selectors including Dilip Vengsarkar and MSK Prasad believed that Shami should have been included in the T20 World Cup squad but the 32-year-old pacer has not played for India in the T20Is since the T20 World Cup 2021 last year. The selectors have, however, included him in the T20I series against Australia and South Africa ahead of the World Cup and are hopeful that in an scenario any of the quick bowlers in the squad get injured, both Shami and Chahar can cover as good replacements – precisely why they have been kept as reserves.

India may have fallen short in the Asia Cup, and were dealt a crucial injury blow to a key all-rounder, but Mahela Jayawardena believes they can still be a force in the T20 World Cup.

India named their 15-member squad earlier this week, but it was missing Ravindra Jadeja, whose injury during the Asia Cup comes as a stinging blow.

A canny bowler as well as a left-handed power-hitter, Jadeja offered the India XI much-needed balance. And Jayawardena said his absence will be “a massive loss” to one of the early tournament favourites.

"It is a challenge. They had fitted him nicely in that No.5 role. He has been batting really well and him and Hardik (Pandya) being in that top six – two guys who can give that all-round options – gave India much more flexibility in that batting order," Jayawardena told Sanjana Ganesan on The ICC Review.

"It is a tough one for them, and probably a concern not having that left-hander. They’ve switched to leaving out DK (Dinesh Karthik) and bringing in Rishabh (Pant) in that role, batting at 5 or 4. Those are things they have to settle going into the World Cup.

"But not having Jadeja, the form that he was in... it will be a massive loss for them."

As big a blow as it is, India still have much to look forward to and can take solace in the return to form of their star batter Virat Kohli. The 33-year-old had taken a month-long break from cricket to focus on his mental health and returned all guns blazing in the Asia Cup.

Kohli broke his century drought that spanned 1,020 days, scoring his 71st international hundred when he smashed an unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan. He finished as the second highest run-getter in the tournament with 276 runs at an impressive 92, striking at 147.59.

"He was there and thereabouts pretty much,” said Jayawardena. “He just didn’t have that big score under his belt to get that confidence, especially in white-ball cricket, which is always going to happen.

“There were a few injury concerns in the last 12 months. He had little niggles and they rested him and India kept on giving people rest, with the workload that they had. So not having that consistent run also makes it tough.

"In the Asia Cup he batted well, showed what he is capable of, especially in that batting position. Going forward for India, having that stability in that line-up and having confidence that a guy like Virat is going to be a factor, is going to be a concern for the opposition as well.

"It’s good to see him batting like that. We need all these brilliant players to be at their best form in a World Cup, and that’s what the World Cup deserves as well. Everyone going at each other at that level. It will be a fascinating World Cup in Australia."

Jayawardena added that India would be further bolstered by the return to fitness of pace ace Jasprit Bumrah.

"For me the way they played, the skills, the talent, everything is there. They just need a little bit of confidence with the bat, with the ball and in the field,” said Jayawardena.

"These are little things that India will want to improve. It’s just the confidence of bowlers being able to get wickets and then executing skills.

“Obviously, not having Jasprit was also a factor. He fills a big gap for them with the new ball and at the back end. That will settle them as well when he is back in Australia.

“World Cups are about momentum, World Cups are about playing your best cricket at the right time. So as long as they lift their game up to that level, I think India has the quality of players who can do that."

The countdown for the 2022 T20 World Cup has begun. All the teams have named their respective squads and the final stage of preparation has already begun. The Indian cricket team had a hiccup in the preparation phase for the marquee event as it bowed out of the Asia Cup without qualifying for the final. However, one big positive for the Rohit Sharma-led side was Virat Kohli ending his 1020-day century drought. The former India captain scored 122* against Afghanistan while opening the batting in a Super 4 match. That innings has led many to ponder on whether the superstar should continue in that position.

Former Australian cricket team opener Matthew Hayden, however, shut down any discussion on Kohli's position in the Indian T20I team.

"And this great debate around Virat batting up, GG (Gambhir) and I have already had this over the last couple of days, there's no way that he has to open the batting, he has to bat at number 3, simple as that. And again, it's another one of those things that you don't want to let the door open the discussion on this," Hayden said in a virtual press conference organised by Star Sports

"You don't want to have a doubt, you don't want to have KL Rahul in the masterful form that he's been in of late and Rohit Sharma who is captain of the team thinking 'I've got to kind of watch my spot here that you know I'm an opening batsmen and my job is to play with freedom' and unfortunately, when you start having these debates and you start thinking 'oh maybe he, for his game, it should be him opening', I'm sure he wouldn't want to entertain that and put pressure. The one thing that you want to alleviate in the World Cup is the pressure. Just let the batting order rely on its own form and Virat Kohli can handle the situation. He's a world class player, he can bat at three and he should bat at three in my opinion."

India start their T20 World Cup campaign with a game against Pakistan on October 23.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has stated that Virat Kohli could be an option to open the innings for India at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia while backing KL Rahul as the first choice at the top of the order.

India's squad for the T20 World Cup includes two specialist openers in skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. Virat Kohli though has been mooted as an option at the top of the order, after his impressive record there in international as well as domestic franchise cricket.

Rahul, who recently made a comeback in the Indian squad after a long rehabilitation from his injury often looked rusty in the Asia Cup. He scored 122 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 122.22.

Kohli, on the other hand, notched up his maiden T20I century in India's final match of the campaign against Afghanistan from the opening slot. The former Indian skipper was in great touch throughout the tournament, ending up as the second highest run-scorer with 276 runs in five matches.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma though was affirmative that KL Rahul will remain India's first-choice option at the top of the order. Speaking to the media ahead of India's T20I series against Australia, Rohit said, "He (KL Rahul) is a very important player for Team India. For us, I just want to make it clear, we are clear in our thought process.

"We do not have any confusion, we are very clear what KL Rahul brings to the table for us, he is a quality player and is very important for us. His presence at the top is very crucial for us," the Indian skipper said, backing Rahul.

Sharma though was open to the option of Kohli slotting in at the top of the order, claiming that he was the third opener in the squad.

"For us, we understand the quality of all our players and what they bring for us. But yeah, it is an option (Virat Kohli opening) for us, we will always keep that in mind.

"Since we have not taken a third opener, he opens for his franchise in the IPL and he has done really well, so it is a definite option for us," Sharma added.

Further elaborating on the composition of the batting order, Sharma said, "Virat Kohli is our third opener and he will open in some of the games. In the last match of the Asia Cup, we were happy with the way he played.

"But KL Rahul will open the batting in the World Cup, his performance sometimes goes quite unnoticed," the Indian skipper concluded.

India's T20I series against Australia begins on 20 September in Mohali before the action moves to Nagpur on 23 September. The final T20I will be played in Hyderabad on 25 September. India will then contest a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series against South Africa, as they amp up their preparations for the T20 World Cup.

It seems Indian TM read my posts regarding including Umran Malik for the upcoming World Cup. This is the first step. :inti

T20 World Cup: Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik to travel with Rohit-led Team India in Bumrah's absence - Report

According to a report, the Indian think tank has roped in two star pacers as Jasprit Bumrah's backup for the 2022 edition of the ICC World T20.

With Team India fretting over the fitness of pace ace Jasprit Bumrah in the build-up to the ICC World T20 2022, the Indian think tank reportedly has plans to send speed merchants Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik as reinforcements for the showpiece event in Australia. Champions in the inaugural edition of the ICC event, Rohit Sharma-led Team India suffered a major blow after speedster Bumrah was ruled out of the ongoing South Africa series in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup on Friday.

The Rahul Dravid-coached side roped in Siraj for the remainder of the three-match T20I series between the Proteas and hosts India. Bumrah, who missed the entire edition of the Asia Cup, has been ruled out of the South Africa T20Is due to a stress fracture. The Men In Blue will host South Africa in the 2nd T20I on Sunday. Team India is set to kickstart their World Cup campaign in three weeks.

At a time when Bumrah is doubtful for the T20 World Cup in Australia, Team India is expected to carry at least two additional fast bowlers as Bumrah's backup for the ICC event. According to a report filed by Sportstar, it has been learned that fast bowlers Siraj and Malik are set to travel with the Rohit-led India squad to Perth on October 6. The Dravid-coached side will train for a week before leaving for Brisbane. India are scheduled to play its first warm-up match on October 17.

Earlier, multiple reports suggested that Bumrah is set to miss the T20 World Cup after the pacer was ruled out of the South Africa series with a back injury. On Friday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Bumrah has sustained a back injury and the star pacer is under the supervision of the medical team. Rohit-led Team India will begin their World Cup campaign on October 23 against arch-rivals Pakistan in Melbourne.

Last year's find of Chennai Super Kings, left-arm seamer Mukesh Choudhary of Maharashtra, and Saurashtra's Chetan Sakariya have been added to Team India's T20 World Cup squad as net bowlers.

It is understood that since most teams have a left-arm seamer in its ranks and India's Arshdeep Singh will need rest between the games, Mukesh and Chetan have accompanied the team for the Perth leg of the tour.

"Mukesh and Chetan flew in with the team yesterday. As of now, they will be with the team for the Perth leg where India are supposed to play a couple of practice games." As per India's training schedule in Perth, they will have three days of rigorous training for five hours between 11 am to 4 pm on October 8, 9 and 12, while on October 10 and 13, two T20 warm-up games will be held.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh broke the back of Western Australia batting line-up and the duo took four wickets between them inside the powerplay. Sam Fanning hit a 50 for Western Australia but that was not enough as India wrapped up a comprehensive win.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav hit 52 runs as Team India posted 158/6 in 20 overs against Western Australia in their first practice game at the WACA, Perth on Monday.

Rohit Sharma-led Team India have begun their preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup as they are squaring off against Western Australia in a practice-game at WACA.

This would be the first of the two practice matches scheduled against Western Australia.

The match started at 11 AM IST and the side gave rest to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.

The side will also play two warm-up fixtures against New Zealand and Australia, before playing their first match of the tournament on October 23 against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Team India’s 14 players have already flown to Australia alongside the coaching staff headed by the Indian head coach Rahul Dravid to prepare for the T20 World Cup down under. The Men in Blue won the first match against Western Australia ahead of their warm-up games against Australia and New Zealand.

Then the biggest clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan would take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23rd. This will he be the third meeting between these sides after their clash at T20 World Cup 2021 opener. Both teams have won one match against each other during the latest Asia Cup.

The Men in Blue would be entering the tournament without their key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. Both of them have ruled out because of injuries and India is still looking over their suitable replacement.

Earlier Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Deepak Chahar were contesting for the spot left by Jasprit Bumrah but now according to the report from RevSportz, Shami has cleared the fitness test and is now completely fit to join the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup down under.

Shami has not played a single match in the shortest format of the game for Team India since T20 World Cup 2021. He was under the reserve players but according sources close with BCCI, Shami was the biggest name in consideration to replace injured Jasprit Bumrah.

He is not only a great bowler but also brings experience of bowling in big tournaments and Australian pitches. He is reportedly set to fly for Australia as soon as possible so he can get to play in the warm-up games against Australia and England.

Like for like better replacements are in India. Going with guaranteed failures like Harshal ahead of them will ensure India will have a first round exit.

Chahal vs Bishoni/Kuldeep
Shami vs Siraj
Harshal vs Chahar/Thakur

We are playing South Africa on Perth and our bowling attack will be Bhuvi, Shami, Arshdeep and Pandya while Saffers will go withe bowling attack of Rabada, Nortje, Jansen and Ngidi.

I guess we will lose that game and get knocked out of the tournament.

Nasser Hussain:

"India's issues have been ICC events really. They have been going around beating everyone, with a variety of players, they have rotated and rested. But the truth is that they have played some timid cricket in world events and almost gone into their shell. They definitely played some fearful cricket in the last World Cup, especially in the powerplays,"

Former India coach Ravi Shastri believes the current crop of batters his team have assembled at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is the best he has ever seen.

Shastri was in charge of India at last year's T20 World Cup as the Asian side won just three of their five matches and failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the event.

But almost 12 months on the India batting line-up looks more settled, with the recent emergence of Suryakumar Yadav and the re-introduction of veteran finisher Dinesh Karthik in the middle order.

And despite the absence of key fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah through injury, Shastri thinks India's batters can help the team qualify for the semi-finals this time around.

"I have been part of the system for the last six-seven years, first as a coach and now I am watching from the outside, and I think this is as good a line-up as India has ever had in T20 cricket," Shastri declared during an event at the Mumbai Press Club.

"With Surya (Yadav) at No.4, Hardik (Pandya) at No.5 and Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik at No.6 it makes a massive difference as it allows the top order to play the way they are playing."

Shastri is somewhat concerned by India's fielding though, with the experienced coach noting the team will need to perform better in this area throughout the event.

"One area that India will have to pick up and start right from the beginning is fielding,” he said.

"They need to work hard and get their A-game on the field when they step out (in the first game) against Pakistan.

"Those 15-20 runs that you save can make all the difference because otherwise every time you get out to bat, you need to get 15-20 runs extra."

Shastri said games can be won in the field and pointed to Sri Lanka's recent success at the Asia Cup where the island nation took a host of key catches in the field during a tight final against Pakistan.

"For sides like Australia, England, South Africa they field like crazy," Shastri said.

"Look at what Sri Lanka did in the Asia Cup with fielding. They won a tight game against Pakistan riding on fielding."

India's first match at the T20 World Cup comes against arch-rival Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23, before they take on South Africa in Perth, Bangladesh in Adelaide and two teams to progress from the First Round.

How have the Indians batted against leg-spin recently? Qadir might be our trump card at the MCG, alongside Shadab of course.

How have the Indians batted against leg-spin recently? Qadir might be our trump card at the MCG, alongside Shadab of course.

He is classical leg spin, won't work. Quick wrist spin would be handy like Rashid or Hasaranga. Pant, SKY and Pandya will take them on easily. Nawaz is the better option.

India vs Western Australia, Practice Match Highlights: KL Rahul scored a brilliant 75 but India went down fighting against Western Australia in the second practice match at the WACA Ground in Perth.

Chasing a taraget of 169, India kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually reduced to 132/8. Barring Rahul, none of the Indian batters failed to make any noteworthy contribution. Earlier, Nick Hobson and D'Arcy Short hit fifties as Western Australia managed to post a total of 168/8 in 20 overs.

Hobson (64) and Short (52) stitched 110 runs for the second wicket before Indian bowlers made a strong comeback to restrict Western Australia under 170. Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets while Harshal Patel also bagged two wickets. Earlier, India were asked to bowl first in their second practice match at the Western Australia Cricket Association Ground in Perth. KL Rahul will lead the side, despite the presence of captain Rohit Sharma

The visitors won the first match by 13 runs as Suryakumar Yadav starred with a brilliant knock of 52 off 35 balls. Virat Kohli and Rahul were rested for the match, while the likes of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant failed to get amongst the runs. They will hope for a better performance this time around.

India XI: Rohit, Rahul (C), Hooda, Pant, Hardik, Karthik, Axar, Harshal, Ashwin, Bhuvi, Arshdeep

WA XI: AJ Tye, J Philippe, H McKenzie, ST Fanning, C Bancroft, AJ Turner, D Short, N Hobson, M Kelly, J Behrendorff, D Moody, LR Morris

West indies team turned Axar into some kind of big hitting all rounder. Indian team keeps sending him ahead of specialists for some reason. He is a lower order who can bat. That's about it.

How have the Indians batted against leg-spin recently? Qadir might be our trump card at the MCG, alongside Shadab of course.

Kohli still has issues. Others can improvise. But Kohli's issue against zampa is well documented. In recent series he decided to take him on. Partially successful.

Kohli has issues against Adil Rashid as well.

Because of the length that Zampa bowls he struggles against him. He can still put drag-down merchants away. Zampa has impeccable control over his length. Length that specifically bothers Kohli.

shami travelled to AUS on wednesday(posted on insta). i guess siraj, thakur will travel soon too. interesting to see who the selectors will pick in the 15..shami or siraj?
meanwhile shreyas, bishnoi who were supposed to travel as reserves are now said to be dropped from it and they'll play in domestic T20 SMAT.

Won't read too much into warm ups.

We absolutely thrashed ENG and Australia in the warm-ups I the last World Cup. We all know what happened after that.

Yes. Even harshal gota way with cheap overs lol Technically one should read it as a plus. We know it is not.

According to experts here opening the batting is pretty easy in T20Is so why is Pant still failing there? :facepalm :inti

Dubai lol. India batted second in both the warm up games. If they had batted first in one of the games they would know about conditions batting first a little better.

This was good by India to not let Rohit or Kohli bat. The others need to learn to bat without them. We should do the same in one of our warmups, let the othet guys get a chance.

2 chokers at the top 4 trundlers , 5 tailenders who can't bat, inconsistent finishers Basically they go with one reliable batsman SKY who is fairly new himself. Humiliation awaits for this garbage selection

Shami's variations,

3) Accidental yorker.
4) Hit me out of the park short ball.

Haris Rauf does not have this many.

Shami hasnt played a game since Mid July. No match practice. And he is striaght in the team.

This is the weakest indian team in a t20 WC since 2009.

Read somewhere that this is the third WC for Shami without playing any T20I one year leading into the competition. More than half of his entire career, he played in WC. 10 years into his career, still has not completed even 20 T20Is.

Did anyone say Indian team management was professional??

Long square boundaries and Pakistan being poor against spin. Why wouldn't you?
India have some death overs issues so they would rather go with an extra pacer than a spinner especially against an Asian side in Australian conditions. No, Pakistan is not poor against spin. It's only Babar who has some problem with spin. Nawaz/Shadab, Haider all look good against spin.
Only one of Axar/Ashwin would play, I think they would go with experienced Ashwin and Chahal combo. But I feel India should have picked Kuldeep Yadav who has troubled Babar in a few occasions.

Pandya as 3rd pacer is a pretty risky choice. He should be 4th pacer. Bhuvi, Arshdeep and Shami will be three pacers, Arshdeep will bowl mostly in death and Pandya can chip in a couple in middle overs.

I think in UAE, India went with 3 pacers recently (including Pandya) and it backfired because he ended up with 40 runs in 4 overs. I know in that game, Hooda was sixth option. Here we will have Axar as 5th and Pandya only as 6th but being a pacer short is very risky situation. Need to have 4+2 combination.

Rohit Sharma is one of just four players at this year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup that took part in the inaugural event 15 years ago and the India captain has reflected on how much the shortest format of the game has changed over the years and just what he is doing to help his side to success in Australia.

Rohit entered the 2007 event in South Africa as a baby-faced 20-year-old, but still managed to have a strong impact as he hit a fine half-century against the tournament hosts in his side's last group match and then backed up that effort with an unbeaten 30 coming into bat at number six in the final against arch-rival Pakistan in Johannesburg.

Much has changed for the veteran right-hander since his inauguration into T20I cricket all those years ago, but the pressure on India to perform on the big stage remains and Rohit is keen to help the Asian side pick up a second T20 World Cup crown this time around in his role as skipper.

Rohit is now a veteran of the game with more than 140 T20I appearances for his country, but that’s a far cry from what the 35-year-old knew about the shortest format of the game all those years ago.

The India captain said he entered his first ICC tournament with very little knowledge about how big the shortest format of the game would become and watched on in awe as MS Dhoni led India to the title.

"When I was picked for that World Cup I did not go with any expectations about myself," Rohit said in Melbourne on Saturday alongside the other 15 captains who are in Australia for this year's T20 World Cup.

"I just wanted to enjoy the tournament and play the tournament as it was my first ever World Cup.

"I had no understanding of what it was like to be part of a World Cup and how big it was going to be until we actually won the World Cup."

The four-week event in Australia is the eighth rendition of the T20 World Cup and will also be the eighth time Rohit will feature in the 20-over showcase having played in each tournament thus far.

He is also one of just four players in Australia that played at the inaugural event in 2007, with Zimbabwe all-rounder Sean Williams, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and India team-mate Dinesh Karthik making up an impressive quartet that can now definitely be considered T20 World Cup veterans.

"It has been a long journey and the game has evolved so much," Rohit reflected.

"You can literally see how it is played now compared to what it was like in 2007.

"140 or 150 was a good score back then and now people try and get that score in 14 or 15 overs."

With the days of those low scores a thing of the past and 20-over cricket continuing to evolve, Rohit has to find the delicate balance between attack and defence and try and temper the expectations the one billion or so people back in India put on his side to perform.

It's a job that Rohit is relishing and the aggressive right-hander is hoping he can join Dhoni as India captains to have led their side to glory at a T20 World Cup.

"Teams take more risks (now) without worrying about the result and I think that is a good way to play this format,” Rohit noted.

"It is something that our team is also trying to do

"This is the kind of format where there is risk, but there are high rewards as well.

"We have got to be brave enough to take those risks and certainly be prepared to do that as well."

Rohit and India will be in action in their final warm-up game against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane on Monday, before they fly to Melbourne to take on Pakistan in their T20 World Cup opener at the MCG on October 23.

ICC

KL Rahul
Rohit
Kohli
SKY
Pandya
Pant
Axar
Harshal/Ashwin
Shami
BK
Arshdeep

Tail starts at Pant. But the Top 4 are world class.

BK should be bowled out 4 overs straight. Arshdeep and Shami at the death. Shami is not good at T20, but he will fare better than Harshal. If Harshal is playing he should be bowling from Over no.12.

India will badly miss Bumran and Jaddu. Jadeja will dart well in Aus and his batting would have added depth to India's pathetic tail.

* I would have picked Samson over Pant.

Pant has been an utter failure in T20's. I don't understand why he is getting so much backing. Until he proves that he can be effective in the shortest format, the chance must be given to Kishan or Samson.

The Indian cricket team was dealt a few hefty blows heading into the T20 World Cup 2022, as star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and marquee pacer Jasprit Bumrah were ruled out of the tournament due to injuries. Without Bumrah, India's pace attack looks unconvincing. Even former Pakistan cricketer Aaqib Javed doesn't see India as one of the favourites going into the mega event but is of the opinion that Hardik Pandya in particular is someone who can change the course of the game on his own.

"India ki halat jo hain na woh bhi kuch aachi form main nehin hain. Unke batting bhi struggle kar raha hain, aur Bumrah ke bager bowling waisi nehin hain ki aap soche ki...ki ek impact hota hain bowler ka jo Shaheen ka hai ya Haris ka hain. Yeh impact ka bara pressure hota hain, fark padta hain. Unke jo abhi bowlers hain woh aam medium pace bowlers hain. Ha Pandya ek hain jo game kisibhi waqt change kar sakta hain.

(The condition India are in at the moment, there form isn't good. Their batting is struggling and without Jasprit Bumrah, they don't have an impact bowler like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. An 'impact' bowler creates a lot of pressure on the opponents and that makes a difference. They only have medium pace bowlers right now but they do have Hardik Pandya who can change the game at any point of time," he said.

Axar Patel was picked as Ravindra Jadeja's replacement in the Indian team while Mohammed Shami has come in to fill the Jasprit Bumrah void for the T20 World Cup 2022.

India will open their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 23. When the two teams had squared-off last year in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan had beaten India by 10 wickets.

India last won a world cup 11 years ago and skipper Rohit Sharma knows his team will have to do a lot of things right to lift the coveted trophy in Australia. Their last ICC trophy came back in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy. "If individuals can keep themselves calm and composed during the game we will get the results that we are looking for. It has been a while since we won the World Cup. "The motive and thought process is to win the World Cup but we know we need to do a lot of things right to get there. So one step at a time for us and focus on each team we are going to come against and not think about semis or finals," Rohit said in a video posted on bcci.tv.

The 2022 T20 World Cup is Rohit's first ICC event as captain. Virat Kohli had led India in the previous T20 World Cup 12 months ago.

"It is a big honour to captain the side. my first World Cup as captain so I am excited about it. It is great opportunity to come here and do something special.

"Every time you come for a World Cup it is a great felling. We had a great camp (training) in Perth. We won two series at home recently but Australia will be a different challenge. Conditions will be challenging but there is a reason why we came here early." India play their opening game against Pakistan in Melbourne on October 23.

"It is a big game to start with but we are going to keep relaxed and focus on what we need to do as individuals. That is going to be the key for us," he added.

INDIA HEAD INTO ICC MEN’S T20 WORLD CUP WITH HIGH HOPES OF CLAIMING SECOND TITLE

India head into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with high hopes of ending their 15-year drought and claiming their second title thanks to a side packed with talent with both bat and ball.

They’ll be looking to reach the semi-finals for the fourth time at their eighth appearance at an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup before powering on to victory in Australia.

But do India have what it takes to claim their second crown? We take a look at them in focus.

2022 Prospects

There is only ever one aim for India in World Cups, to win, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is no different.

Failure to qualify for the semi-finals at the 2021 edition, including a ten-wicket defeat to rivals Pakistan, still stings and serves as motivation to go at least one better this time around – not that any more will be needed.

They face Bangladesh, South Africa, and Pakistan in Group 2 of the Super 12, alongside Netherlands and the winner from Group B from the First Round.

Much will likely be decided by the opening match, where India play Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 23 October.

A win there would at once banish the demons of 12 months ago and produce plenty of momentum for Rohit Sharma’s men.

Should they get in their stride, they will be a formidable force for any team as they look to clinch their first title since the inaugural edition in 2007.

T20 World Cup History

India’s T20 World Cup history has been one of frustration since claiming the first-ever title in 2007. Irfan Pathan was the hero 15 years ago, as he took three for 16 as India edged Pakistan by five runs in Johannesburg.

It was a crown that was hard-earned, with wins over England and South Africa in the group stage setting up a semi-final with Australia, where Yuvraj Singh hit 70 off 30 to power India through to the final.

But that was as good as it would get for India, with a Super 8s exit in the next three World Cups.

Yet India have been edging closer in more recent editions, finishing as runners-up to Sri Lanka in 2014 before a semi-final defeat in 2016 to West Indies.

A Super 12s exit in 2021 denied them a third consecutive semi-final appearance, and they will be raring to put that right this time around.

Current Form

There are very few nations whose cricketers play as much T20 cricket as India thanks to the success of the IPL and depth of homegrown talent at its disposal.

And while some sides have played little white-ball cricket in recent months, India have got a number of series under their belts to make sure they are in the best possible form heading to Australia.

A tour of England in July saw an impressive 2-1 series victory, including a comprehensive 50-run victory over the hosts in Southampton before following that up with a 49-run win in Birmingham.

A 4-1 series win over West Indies then came a few weeks later before a 2-1 home series win over Australia kept up the side’s good form heading into the World Cup. Defeat by four wickets in the opening match was responded to with consecutive six-wicket victories as Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat for the hosts.

Another home series victory came against South Africa, this time KL Rahul the standout, before a warm-up series with hosts Australia seeing the tourists win by six runs in the first match.

Best Batters

India have a wealth of options with the bat, the task will be to get selection right and ensure those trusted perform at the crease.

Captain Rohit will almost certainly open alongside Rahul, where they will be one of the most fearsome partnerships should they put together lengthy stands.

Should they fall, all eyes will be on the talismanic Kohli at number three. One of the best batters in the world on his day, India will be hoping he will be firing on all cylinders in Australia. And at number four, India have the world number two men’s T20 batter, Yadav.

He has more than 1,000 runs in 32 T20I innings and showed everyone just how good he can be with a knock of 117 off 55 balls against England this summer.

Should India require it, the middle order is brimming with hard-hitters such as Hardik Pandya, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, and all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin to power them to a big total.

Best Bowlers

The injury of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah is a blow, but they will take solace in having the outstanding Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead the bowling attack.

Bhuvneshwar is one of the most electric pace bowlers on his day, with the ability to swing the ball both ways a potentially key skill Down Under.

He will be joined by 23-year-old Arshdeep Singh, who will be hoping to announce himself on the international stage with his death bowling.

Bringing the spin will be Yuzvendra Chahal, who took the most wickets in the IPL this year, plus Axar Patel and Ashwin, arguably one of the world’s best all-rounders, giving India a wide range of options with ball in hand.

Former India captain Kapil Dev has shot an alarming warning to Rohit and Co. ahead of the next tie against South Africa in Perth on Sunday. Kapil reckons India must address a couple of issues before it gets too late, and although there has been a huge improvement in their under-fire bowling department, a few more boxes need to be ticked if India are to go all the way.

"The bowling has gotten better. In batting, I felt India could have scored more runs but in the last 10 overs, made up for it by scoring over 100 runs. See, the grounds are big and hence, the spinners gain a little bit of advantage. I would still say that in patches we are still lacking in bowling," Kapil said on ABP News.

"Against a team like Netherlands, you should have proper planning as to where to bowl in terms of line and length. The biggest thing is that in such matches, there should not be no-balls or wides because you are practicing and need to win the match as well. So overall, I would say, the bowling was good but still some loopholes were visible."

India got off to a cautious start before Rohit Sharma opted to tee off. Kohli and Suryakumar added an unbeaten partnership of 95 runs as India knocked off 112 runs in the last 10 overs. With the ball, India gave away three wides and a no-ball (bowled by Arshdeep Singh), and even though it is not criminal in nature by any stretch of the imagination, Kapil feels it could have been controlled, especially when the opponent is Netherlands.

"Suryakumar Yadav has really grabbed his chances well in this team. To score runs so quickly, he should be praised more. India would still want their captain Rohit Sharma to be a little more compact, and want Rahul to score some runs. Virat Kohli should play anchor because he can accelerate, but if he gets the chance to play through the entire 20 overs, this team can chase down any total. In the last 1-2 years, he was the player we were struggling to find - who is going to bat for us at No.4? There were players but not the kind of contenders we have found in Suryakumar," mentioned Kapil.

What Rahul Dravid Said On KL Rahul's Poor Run So Far In T20 World Cup
Head coach Rahul Dravid addressed a press conference on Tuesday and he spoke about Rahul's form and what sort of conversations he has been having with the batter

Right-handed batter KL Rahul has not been able to get going in the ongoing T20 World Cup so far, scoring just 22 runs in three games. The batter recorded scores of 4,9 and 9 in the three matches that he has played so far in the tournament and hence it is no surprise that the biggest questions are regarding KL Rahul's form heading into the match against Bangladesh slated to be played on Wednesday at the Adelaide Oval. Head coach Rahul Dravid addressed a press conference on Tuesday and he spoke about Rahul's form and what sort of conversations he has been having with the batter.

"I think he is a fantastic player, he has a proven track record. I think he has been batting superbly. These things can happen in T20Is, it has not been that easy for top-order batters. This tournament has been challenging, I think he was brilliant in the practice games against the likes of Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc. He got 60 or 70. I am hoping that it all clicks together in the next few games," said Dravid.

"We know his quality and ability, he is very well suited for these conditions. He has got a good all-round game and he has a very good backfoot game which is required in these conditions. We are happy with the way he has been hitting it," he added.

When asked about the sort of conversations he has been having with Rahul, Dravid said: "We have a lot of conversations with players, it is hard to reveal exact details. Rest assured, both in words and in action, over the last year, he knows he has our support. There has been a lot of clarity on what our side is going to be in this tournament and we have not wavered from that. We play a lot of cricket, you might see different players playing in different situations."

"There have been injuries and including him, he has had phases where he has been injured. I think it has been great with captain Rohit Sharma that he has shown faith and belief in players," he added.

Further talking about Rahul, the head coach said: "We do not focus on what is being said on the outside. We have certain ideas in mind and we have belief in players. We understand people will go through ups and downs. Everyone has our backing and they are here, because we know they have quality."

"In these conditions, we can afford him a little bit of time. As I said, we completely back him, we have no concerns. We know that when he gets going, I know the impact he can make," he added.
