What's new

India take No. 1 position in Test Rankings with a 3-0 defeat of New Zealand

1. ICC algorithm does not separate home and away series. Its all one and the same.

2. All round performance matters. If algorithm says something, it doesn't make it so.

3.You say

Why so?

Cos it doesn't match with your view now?

ICC ODI algorithms use variety of factors just like tests.

But in the end its just an algorithm. That's why you have disparities.

4. Even if ICC algorithm takes home and away tours, a side that wins disproportionately at home and loses abroad may maintain its points. That doesn't mean fans will not notice it. I am not saying this is how it will work but I am saying it could be a scenario.

5. The point is simple:

Better allround team gets rated more.

Screw rankings.

Screw points.

Screw everything.

When fans from various nations rate you as the best, you are the best.

As I said, let's enjoy the number 1 ranking and not take it out of context to prove something that doesn't have a basis for now.

"When fans from various nations rate you as the best, you are the best". I am unaware of any such survey (I assume you don't mean PP) and doubt if there will be one in the future. Of course, you can hear from different individuals, but a small sample won't have validity and you have to spend a considerable amount of energy making it reliable.

The ICC ranking is a good enough basis for me, we just have to agree to disagree.

While drawing a series in England is impressive, it is also true that the current English side is quite poor. They just lost a Test to Bang, a team that India forced to follow on about 16 months ago.

Gotta whitewash those pommies and make it impossible for anyone to get near our points. :P

How many points do we get for a whitewash? Sounds so exciting and will be quite an achievement

But in reality, expect England to bounce back well, they tend to raise their game vs us or we have mental block vs them. I will be happy with a 2-1 or even 3-2 kind of result. Have had enough of those series losses vs them since 2011

We will go from 115 to 122 with a 5-0 win.

Play around with it.

Sounds great to hear but England ain't gonna lie back and let us run riot. They will fight back too.

Home and Away have equal weight so that India can reign supreme, may as well call it the HTB ICC ranking

India have extended their lead at the top of ICC Test rankings courtesy to second-placed Pakistan's defeat in the third and final Test against West Indies on Thursday. Kraigg Brathwaite and Shane Dowrich struck unbeaten half-centuries to guide West Indies to a first Test victory in 14 matches as the Caribbean side beat Pakistan by five wickets in Sharjah.

Although Pakistan won the series, they are now six rating points behind India who stand at 115 ratings points and just 1 point ahead of Australia.

India is expected to extend its lead further with the home series against England given current England batting problems against spin. With Australia also facing South Africa in a Test series Down Under, Pakistan will find it difficult to hold on to it’s second position.

Aus seems to be crushing SA. I know it is just a day's play, but rate at which Warner scored and the fact that they couldn't get a wicket spells trouble for SA the rest of the series.

With the series win over England, no one e can truly question our number 1 status now. Bring the Aussies on!

If it were not for 3 drawn Tests due to rain (one each against SA, Bang and WI) we would likely have been around 125 instead of 120. May still get to 125 after the Australia and Bang series.

Very good point. What a miss. That WI match (Actually any one of the 3 matches) would have also gotten us to #1 ahead of our rivals !

Wow didnt know about it. Thanks!
