What's new

India tour of New Zealand 2020

Ishant won't play. Vihari will bat at 6 and four bowlers.

Ishant is flying tommorow. So he might play.

If vihari plays, he will open. Lot will depend on how many Shaw and Mayank score tommorow.

We will have one spinner who will be the AR.

And 4 bowlers.

As i always maintained Pant is a better test batsman than an LOI player. He has a decent defense. Can negotiate both pace and spin. Once he establishes himself here he should come back to LOI.

Agarwal finally gets some confidence from this innings 81*(99)

The playing xi will probably be :

1. Shaw
2. Agarwal
3. Pujara
4. Kohli
5. Rahane
6. Vihari
7. Pant
8. Ashwin
9. Umesh
10.Shami
11.Bumrah

Ishant is back into the squad but don't see him playing the first game straight after coming from injury without any practice. Maybe, will get chance in the second test. I'd personally prefer Jadeja and Ishant over Ashwin and Umesh.

same with Mayank. I feel he is a far superior test batsman. once Mayank gets more experince he can play too as well. he is better than labuschagne.

neesham and de grandhomme will get smashed In tests.

De Grandhomme is an excellent allround option. Can bowl long spells, always keeps it tight and if something in wkt can threaten wicket as well

India should go conservative for first game

Mayank
Vihari
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Pant / Saha
Jadeja
Ashwin / Saini
Bumrah
Shami
Umesh

on helpful tracks only. his 120 k will be useless anywhere else apart from new zeland and England. The only 2 places where new zealand can actually beat india in a test or odi series.

He has done excellent job in UAE and Australia where everyone thought he would struggle

So Gill is out. Will see whether Shaw opens or they go with Vihari

Also I hope Pant's 70 is enough to get him the nod above Saha.Keeping to spin isn't much issue in NZ anyway.Should develop Pant

My Team

Aggarwal

The BLACKCAPS will have their familiar pace trio to call on for the upcoming two Test series against India, along with rising Auckland Aces star Kyle Jamieson.

Left-arm swingman Trent Boult has recovered from the broken right-hand he sustained in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG to be included in the 13 player squad, with the opening Test starting at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Friday.

Following an impressive showing in his debut ODI series against India, Jamieson has been included in a pre-series Test squad for the first time, after being called across to Australia mid-tour in December to replace the injured Lockie Ferguson.

Ajaz Patel (Central Stags) has been named as the specialist spinner in the 13-player squad, while Daryl Mitchell (Northern Districts) has been included as the batting and all-rounder cover.

Wellington Firebirds batsman Tom Blundell will continue opening the batting with Tom Latham following his breakthrough century in Melbourne.

Champion batsman Ross Taylor is set to become the fourth BLACKCAP to play 100 Tests, joining his former teammates Brendon McCullum, Daniel Vettori and Stephen Fleming.

Kane Williamson (c) (Northern Districts)

Tom Blundell (Wellington Firebirds)

Trent Boult (Northern Districts)

Colin de Grandhomme (Northern Districts)

Kyle Jamieson (Auckland Aces)

Tom Latham (Canterbury)

Daryl Mitchell (Northern Districts)

Henry Nicholls (Canterbury)

Ajaz Patel (Central Stags)

Tim Southee (Northern Districts)

Ross Taylor (Central Stags)

Neil Wagner (Northern Districts)

BJ Watling (Northern Districts)

Coach Gary Stead acknowledged some tough decisions had to be made.

“With a squad of 13 we’ve put a priority on balance and making sure we have the needed variety and different options depending on the pitch conditions at the Basin Reserve,” said Stead

“It’s terrific to have Trent back with us and we’re looking forward to the energy and experience he adds to the group alongside his obvious class with the ball in hand.

“Kyle will offer us a point of difference with the bounce he could extract on what is traditionally a good surface in Wellington.

“We’re excited to welcome back Ajaz who has done a great job for us overseas and has a proven domestic record in New Zealand conditions.

“Daryl showed his batting prowess in his Test debut against England in Hamilton and he naturally offers us great versatility with the different roles he can play.

Stead hailed the upcoming achievement for Ross Taylor.

“To play 100 Tests for your country is an incredible achievement and a testament to his work ethic and complete professionalism.”

looks pretty good to me. Easily one of n.z' greatest team of all time after mcculum's version. Lol at junaids underrating this side. It won't be easy to win in n.z

This era is by far the strongest. Every team is great at home unlike the past. Obviously teams like south africa and Lanka struggle even at home but majority of the other top sides are powerful at home.

Boult returns for India Tests, Santner, Raval dropped

Trent Boult has returned to the New Zealand Test side for the two-match series against India, as has Ajaz Patel, the left-arm spinner.

Boult has been out of action since injuring his right hand during the Boxing Day Test against Australia. He missed the final Test of that series as well as the limited-overs leg of the India tour earlier this month.

He will join Tim Southee and Neil Wagner in the pace attack, as well as the uncapped Kyle Jamieson, who has been called up to the Test squad for the first time after impressing in the domestic circuit.

Jamieson made his international debut earlier this month during the ODIs against India, scoring 25* and picking 2/42 in the second ODI, a performance which earned him the Player of the Match award.

However, there was no place in the squad for Mitchell Santner, with Patel taking his place. Santner was handed a drubbing during the three-Test series against Australia, and then struggled in the limited-overs leg of the India series.

There was also no place for opener Jeet Raval and paceman Matt Henry. Raval failed to produce a performance of note in the last three series for New Zealand, aggregating 106 runs from 10 innings that included six single-digit scores and a highest of 33.

“With a squad of 13,” said coach Gary Stead, “we’ve put a priority on balance and making sure we have the needed variety and different options depending on the pitch conditions at the Basin Reserve.”

The first Test will begin in Wellington on Friday, 21 February.

Squad: Kane Williamson (c), Tom Latham, Tom Blundell, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling (wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult, Ajaz Patel, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell.

Yep. Almost always overlooked, but he has been NZ's most effective bowler in the last 4 years, even if he is highly predictable and slow.

because he varies his pace a lot and has a good bouncer. Not a threatening one that would take your head off but a bouncer that makes you play a rash shot.

He bowls a bouncer that is tempting to the batsman. After ducking for a while the batsman thinks he can hook or pull him. More often than not it goes to the boundary but he is bound to get wickets as the batsmen will make mistakes. The batsmen also never learn cause it's just too tempting.

n.z are favourites but india cam upset them with their bowling attack.

Reason why I say n.z have the advantage is because for n.z conditions, they have the better balance. CDG is a batting allrounder who actually bowls decently in test. They also can bat deep till number 9.

india do have depth too but it's a spinning all rounder depth. That's why I think A pandya, vijay shankar or even a dubey would work in n.z.

Either way I think A draw would be a good result imo.

ofcourse if india wins the toss it's game over for n.z.

if we lose the toss n.z will have the edge.

NZ matches are toss based. It can be overly bowler friendly also it can be overly batsmen friendly. It depends on when you bat.
