India tour of Sri Lanka (2024)

Srilanka last won bilateral ODI series against India way back in 1997.
After that India and Srilanka played 13 bilaterals, but Lanka won none.

India vs SL is possibly the least intense series in world cricket. Even Ireland-Zimbabwe probably has more spice.

Can't think of many eventful moments between these two sides (other than Mendis's 6/13 and SL's semi-final win in 1996 WC)

I didn't list all as I was feeling lazy.

I saw those too. Enjoyed Jayasuriya's 189.

I have an 100% remote job which allows me to post while I work.

Please stick to topic. I made a general comment about India-SL series. No need to be salty. Learn to respect opinions of others.

Lol only a person with single digit IQ will be salty with your observation.

I also agree PCT or BD vs Lanka is way more entertaining than India vs Lanka as it’s battle of equals and not not goliath.

Srilanka should use these tours to get better in LOIs. Temperament, Technique both are poor. They need to build a core unit for 2025 and 2027. Strike rotation is missing.

Their entire country is going through a phase as well, but their fundamentals are good will get better in 5-6 years. Unlike Paper tigers they have a rich history and humble players.

You must have single digit IQ (by your definition) because you are being unnecessarily salty.
Correcting you isn’t being salty boy, and didn’t you just say you don’t have time and yet keep responding to everyone non stop.

You are not correcting anything. You are just a blind nationalist who expects everyone to praise India 24/7.

Let's return to topic? Stop derailing.

Srilankan was always known for their tactics much like New zealand. Current leadership clearly lacks it. Ranatunga, Mahela, Sanga were all street smart.

Rohit Sharma emphasized that India aims to perform to the best of their ability in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, he said:

"You get asked a lot whether this series is a preparation for the World Cup, or is this a preparation for the Champions Trophy, It's not a practice ground - it's still an international game. We will keep in our minds what we want to achieve, but this is by no means preparation or practice or anything like that. We want to come here and play good cricket and get something out of the series."

"Of course we want to try everything possible, but when you're representing the nation the quality of cricket should remain the way it is, and how we've played over the last few years. That is more important, rather than thinking about it as a preparation and saying let's go out and chill in Colombo. We don't think like that,"

"In terms of what we want to do - it's not just one particular area we're looking to improve, it's the overall game. In sports, you can't just sit happy doing something. You have to keep moving forward, and you have to keep moving up and challenge yourself. There's always something new to learn when you play a series and when you play a game. Whatever we have done, it was good for that particular time, but time keeps moving forward."

These guys don't care about their team, their fans. All they care is about money.

Hasaranga is a prime example, always running after money always playing in different franchises around the world and getting injured during national duty.

Lol literally everyone corrected you on amount of away wins India had since 2002..

That tie is going to be a wake up call for Gambhir's Indian team. They should not take it easy.

Yeah that joke of an over by Shubman Gill probably cost us in such a tight game. I'm all for experiments in such inconsequential series but they've got to be something you might be willing to try in a real game.

Yes. Not sure why Gill was bowling. He never even bowled in domestics. Nowhere near a bowler he is. Not sure what Gambhir was thinking there. Probably trying to make a team of all-rounders.

Another injury blow rules star spinner out against India

Sri Lanka's key spinner has been ruled out of the ODI series due to a hamstring injury

Sri Lanka confirmed the exit of former T20I captain and all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga from the remainder of the ODI series after suffering an injury to his left hamstring. Hasaranga experienced pain in his left hamstring while delivering the last ball of his 10th over during the first ODI.

Following this, an MRI performed on the spinner confirmed the injury. Sri Lanka have named the 34-year-old Jeffrey Vandersay as his replacement who was previously confirmed as a standby after multiple injury blows.

Vandersay has appeared in 22 ODIs, picking 27 wickets with an average of 31.44. He has faced India only once in the format and went wicketless against them.

Hasaranga played an important role in Sri Lanka's fightback to a tie against India in the first ODI of the three-match series. While batting, he made a crucial contribution of 24, including hitting two sixes and a four. During his bowling, he picked up the big wickets of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Kuldeep Yadav to finish with 3/58.

The major setback comes after a series of shocking injury-related omissions to the squad. Previously, Dushmantha Chameera was ruled out due to bronchitis and respiratory infection, followed by Nuwan Thushara, who broke his thumb and was forced out of the complete tour.

Then, Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka were confirmed to miss the ODIs. Pathirana jarred his right shoulder while diving to take a catch in the third game and Madushanka who was called up as a replacement was ruled out due to a Grade 2 hamstring injury he suffered during fielding practice. Hasaranga makes the fifth player to miss due to injury.

Sri Lanka will take on India in the second ODI today, August 4, on Sunday in Colombo.
