Shikhar Dhawan will continue to lead India in the ODI series against Zimbabwe after leading India to a 3-0 series whitewash against West Indies earlier this month.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant were notable absentees in India's 15-member ODI squad named for the tour of Zimbabwe. Hardik Pandya and Mohammad Shami were also missing from the list announced on Saturday, 30 July.

India ODI squad: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar

Washington Sundar made a return to the squad after recovering from injury and recently appearing in county cricket while Rahul Tripathi was added to the mix. Shubman Gill, who won the Player of the Series in the West Indies ODIs, retained his spot, as did Sanju Samson.

Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are the wicketkeeping options in the squad.

The tour will commence on 18 August with Harare set to host all three ODIs.

Why no Kohli? This tour can be a good opportunity for Kohli to get his form back.

Why no Kohli? This tour can be a good opportunity for Kohli to get his form back.

This series is finishing a couple of days before Asia Cup so I feel a lot of names and not just Kohli being missed for that reason.

Suryakumar and Shreyas are also not in this squad and neither are the likes of Bhuvi, Harshal, Yuzi Chahal. These guys have no business resting.

Kohli is not playing in West Indies too. He got enough rest.

I feel like he should've been selected against Zimbabwe to end his century drought.

Maybe but Asia Cup is more important than this and I don't see any of the selected names for this tour be present in the Indian T20 squad( let alone XI) for Asia Cup either except maybe Kishan and Axar. So, no point really sending Kohli there when you have pretty much rested 12-13 names from the main side.

Kohli wont play Asia cup too...heard from unknown sources. He is in elongated break.

KL Rahul's participation in Asia cup is also iffy as he is still not fit. Unlike Kohli, him missing will be big factor.

We have 2 T20 series with SA and Aust before T20 WC. Most big players will target those as return.

India should win this one at a canter. No need to Kohli to waste his time in Zimbabwe.

Yeah. Definitely.

But, it is not really about winning; India should win even if they play their D team. It is about Kohli getting his form back. I feel like this Zimbabwe series is a good opportunity for him to end his century drought.

On the other hand often not playing means a return to form too. Kohli need not belittle himself by playing vs Zim instead give youngsters a chance.

"Virat had spoken to selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup onwards. The first team players will hardly get rest from Asia Cup till end of World T20. Hence this is a two-week window after Windies tour when they can rest," a source told PTI.

My team for this series would be :-

1. Dhawan
2. Gill
3. Ruturaj
4. Samson(wkt)
5. Kishan
6. D Hooda ( backup for Pandya)
7. Axar( backup for Jadeja)

India’s squad for 3 ODIs: KL Rahul (Captain) Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.

A fit-again KL Rahul will lead India in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, a statement from the BCCI said on Thursday. Shikhar Dhawan has been named his deputy. Earlier, in the initial 15-member squad announced by the BCCI on July 30, Rahul's name was not present and Dhawan was supposed to lead the team. However, on Thursday, the BCCI said in a statement that Rahul has been cleared to play. The three ODIs will be played at the Harare Sports Club on August 18, 20 and 22.

"The BCCI Medical Team has assessed KL Rahul and cleared him to play in the upcoming three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has appointed him the captain of the side and named Shikhar Dhawan as his deputy," the BCCI said in a statement.

Rahul had earlier been named in India's squad for Asia Cup too. He is back in the Indian team after a gap. A few months back Rahul had suffered an injury before the T20I series against South Africa, and he did not feature in the five-match contest. He underwent a surgery and missed several series. Then he tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Tour of West Indies and could not travel with the side. Now, Rahul will now get crucial game-time ahead of the Asia Cup T20 contest to be played in the UAE from September 27.

Senior players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah were not included in the squad. Rahul Tripathi, who represents Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League, was included in the ODI squad after his solid performance in the 2022 edition. In 14 games, he scored 413 runs at an average of 37.55 and hit three fifties. He was the second-highest run-getter for his side.

All-rounder Washington Sundar and bowler Deepak Chahar have also made a return to the side after battling injuries.

Zimbabwe Cricket on Thursday named the 17-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, beginning August 18 in Harare. Regis Chakabva will be leading the hosts while the likes of Sikandar Raza, Ryan Burl, and Bradley Evans are also a part of the squad. The series, which forms part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League, will see Zimbabwe and India meeting in three one-day international matches scheduled for 18, 20, and 22 August at Harare Sports Club.

"Regis Chakabva will lead the home side in the absence of regular captain Craig Ervine who is still nursing a left hamstring tear. Zimbabwe will also be without Blessing Muzarabani, Tendai Chatara, and Wellington Masakadza who are recuperating from thigh muscle tear, collarbone fracture, and shoulder tendon injuries respectively," read an official statement.

The first ODI between Zimbabwe and India will be played at Harare Sports Club next Thursday, before the two sides lock horns again on Saturday. The third and final game is scheduled for the following Monday at the same venue.

Zimbabwe will enter the series against India with some momentum as they recently defeated Bangladesh in both T20I and ODI series.

Earlier, on Thursday, the BCCI announced that KL Rahul will be leading India for the series against Zimbabwe while Shikhar Dhawan will act as his deputy. The seniors like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya have been rested.

Zimbabwe Squad: Regis Chakabva (c), Ryan Burl, Sikandar Raza, Tanaka Chivanda, Bradley Evans, Luke Jongwe, Innocent Kaia, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Clive Madande, Wessly Madhevere, John Masara, Tony Munyonga, Richard Ngarva, Victor Ngarava, Victor Nyauchi, Milton Shumba, Donaldo Tiripano.

India Squad: KL Rahul (c) Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.

Zimbabwe will not be a pushover at home. They have just beaten Bangladesh in ODIs & T20s at home. India will have their task cut out. It will be an interesting series. Sundar is back in the squad after a while, he has been playing for Lancashire and has done reasonably well. With Rahul back and Dhawan already in the Squad, India also have Gill & Gaikwad in the squad. It will be interesting to see how they play. Gill most likely will open the batting with Dhawan with Rahul dropping down to 4.

Finally Tripathi gets a chance, not sure where in the order he will fit in. But again it will be good to see all the players get some chance in this series.

The coaching staff for India's tour of Zimbabwe, which consists of three ODIs, has been revealed.

India legend and current head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) VVS Laxman will assume the role of the head coach for the tour of Zimbabwe.

Rahul Dravid has been given a break ahead of Asia Cup, which commences on 27 August. India's campaign begins with the much-anticipated clash against Pakistan on 28 August.

India's batting coach Vikram Rathourthe and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will be on a break, with Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Sairaj Bahutule filling in for them.

Laxman acted as the head coach during India's tour of Ireland in Dravid's absence and was flanked by Bahutle and Sitanshu Kotak. This will be Kanitkar's first international assignment in a coaching capacity with the senior team but he has a wealth of experience as he was the head coach of the U19 World Cup-winning Indian team earlier this year.

India will play three ODIs between 18 to 22 August against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club, which will be part of ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.

The league has little significance for India as they have already qualified for the World Cup next year by virtue of being hosts but will be important for Zimbabwe who will be looking to push for one of the top 8 automatic qualifying spots. India are currently 7th on the table with 79 points in 12 games while Zimbabwe are 13th with only 35 points from 15 games.

India have been boosted with the return of KL Rahul, who was a late inclusion in the squad. He is set to captain the 16-member squad in the three-match ODI series.

What is happening with Washington Sundar? Lancashire saying he's missing tomorrow's odi match for them due to shoulder injury picked up in his last match. No mention of him going to Zimbabwe and I see most of the squad has already flown there. Also if he is going is he returning to Lancs afterwards?

Injured Washington Sundar in doubt to play Zimbabwe ODIs
He had hurt his left shoulder while diving in the infield during his county stint with Lancashire on August 10

Sundar as of now is suitable only for tests. We have better options than Sundar in LOIs.

Hooda and Axar are better hitters than him and can bat at 6 & 7 respectively.

My team would be :

Dhawan
Gill
Samson
KL Rahul
D Hooda
Kishan
Axar
D Chahar
Kuldeep

Looks a pretty good team actually.

Shahbaz Ahmed replaces injured Washington Sundar for Zimbabwe series

The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Shahbaz Ahmed as the replacement for Washington Sundar for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.

Washington Sundar injured his shoulder while playing a County game in England. He has been ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour.

India will play the first ODI against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on August 18, 2022.

India’s squad for 3 ODIs: KL Rahul (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Shahbaz Ahmed.

Shikhar Dhawan believes the series against Zimbabwe will hold KL Rahul in good stead, while also praising the youngsters who are a part of the touring party.

India will play Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series between August 18 and 22, with many youngsters keen to impress. The competition for places in the Indian team is heating up, none more so than at the top of the order. Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad are all vying for a spot in the team, with Dhawan set to be partnered by the returning KL Rahul.

Addressing the media ahead of the series, Dhawan was asked about how their approach was different from him. The veteran was full of praise for the youngsters, saying, "They're quite confident and everyone is different. They've got good technique.

"The transition for the Indian team has been great because of domestic cricket and the IPL. Their confidence level is quite high and that's why they blend in international cricket so well."

India will come up against a Zimbabwe side, who are full of confidence after their ODI and T20I series victory against Bangladesh. Dhawan praised the hosts, claiming that an in-form Zimbabwe side will be a good challenge for the visitors.

"It's a good thing that they won against Bangladesh and I'm sure they are playing good cricket," he added. "That's why they won. It's a good thing for us. It's going to keep us on our toes and we cannot take anything for granted or lightly."

Dhawan was initially set to lead the side before KL Rahul was added to the squad. Rahul will now lead the squad, with the view of getting him some much-needed match practice ahead of the Asia Cup. Rahul has been out of action since the IPL.

On Rahul's return, Dhawan said, "It's very good news that KL is back in the side and leading the side. He is one of the main players of the Indian team and with the Asia Cup coming ahead, it's a good outing for him and I'm sure he will gain a lot from this tour."

Dhawan also batted for the importance of the ODI format, stating, "It's a beautiful format. It's quite a balanced format where you should know when to attack and when to defend. It is not a rushed format. We've been playing it for a long time and I enjoy playing it."

Zimbabwe could not have hoped to have gone into the ODI series against India in higher spirits, having beaten Bangladesh in both the T20I series and the ODI series that followed. Before Bangladesh visited, Zimbabwe also sealed qualification for the 2022 T20 World Cup by beating Netherlands in the final of the Qualifiers. Opening batter Innocent Kaia spoke to NDTV and said that the team is high on confidence and that India won't have it easy in the three-match contest.

"The confidence is high at the moment because the guys are playing well. The coach is always positive when it comes to playing cricket. He is always telling us what to do and what not to do," Innocent told NDTV in an exclusive interview.

"I'm sure we'll give India a tough time when they come here," he said. "I'm looking forward to win this series, that's the plan."

One of the prime architects of Zimbabwe's recent run of wins has been Sikandar Raza. The 36-year-old all-rounder hit half-centuries in the two T20Is they won against Bangladesh and then two unbeaten centuries in the two ODI triumphs.

"Sikandar Raza is batting well at the moment. He's in the form of his life at the moment. Everything that he touches turns to gold," Innocent Kaia said.

"So we're just looking forward that he keeps that momentum. Whatever he is doing, he is going to do it against India," he said.

And did it help that they faced a team like Bangladesh, who have a good spin attack, before India's visit?

"For me it played a big part. Because firstly I played against Afghanistan. Facing Mujeeb and Rashid Khan and I played them well. And then we played Bangladesh, facing Taijul (Islam). They didn't have Shakib but Mehidy Hasan Miraz, he's a good off-spinner," Innocent said.

"It's a good boost for the team because we got experience against good spinners. A good seam attack as well, facing Mustafizur Rahman. He is a good bowler," he said.

"For us, at the moment, I don't want to lie, we are playing good cricket," he reasserted.

The 30-year-old also named a bowler he was looking forward to face.

"Mohammed Siraj is a good bowler. It will be nice facing him. It will be nice to get runs off him because he's a good bowler," he said.

India will face off against Zimbabwe in three ODIs in Harare.

Good start so far.

Zimbabwe batting first after India won the toss.

Steady start zimbabwe.

This is series for fringe players to make their case but seems as usual oldies like Dhawan will hog batting time in low pressure chases

Not many ODIs before 2023 WC. Dhawan plays only one format....no point in resting him considering he is in team management's plan for 2023

Based on this performance, I think Deepak Chahar will be drafted back into Asia cup squad. Maybe Ravi Bishnoi will be niggled out for him.

We have already given a good enough chances to lot of fringe players..ab aur kis kisko khilaoge.

Earlier, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar took three wickets each as India bowled out Zimbabwe for 189 in 40.3 overs in the first ODI in Harare. Axar took three for 24 while Chahar, who made a return to the team after a long lay-off, also returned figures of three for 27. P

rasidh Krishna also picked up three wickets but was slightly expensive. For Zimbabwe, captain Regis Chakabva top-scored with a knock of 35 while Richard Ngarava and Brad Evans also played knocks of 34 and 33, respectively.

Dominating win for India (as expected).

Zimbabwe seem too dependent on Sikandar. If he flops, team flop too generally.

Zimbabwe vs India, 2nd ODI

India have won the toss and have opted to field

Zimbabwe (Playing XI): Innocent Kaia, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Wesley Madhevere, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Regis Chakabva(w/c), Ryan Burl, Luke Jongwe, Brad Evans, Victor Nyauchi, Tanaka Chivanga

India (Playing XI): Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul(c), Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson(w), Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj

Regis Chakabva: Looks a good wicket and we will try to put a good score on the board. The boys are very much aware of that and the process we are going through. We will come out and give our best effort. The top order has to see off the new ball and set it up for the middle order. Two changes.

India defeated Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill also helped the team's cause with an identical score of 33.

Earlier, Shardul Thakur returned figures of 3 for 38 in 7 overs as India bundled out hosts Zimbabwe for 161 runs in 38.1 overs.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Deepak Hooda claimed a wicket each. For Zimbabwe, Sean WIlliams was the top run-scorer with a 42-run knock, while Ryan Burl followed him with an unbeaten 39.

India's stand-in skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl first. It is worth noting that Deepak Chahar missed out the match. He was replaced by Shardul Thakur.

With the win against Zimbabwe by 5 wickets, India went past Pakistan and West Indies to become the first ever team in ODI cricket to win 11 straight matches away from home. India's 11 wins in the format against Zimbabwe in Harare began back in 2013. South Africa are still in a 10-match winning streak in East London (2013-2017*) while Pakistan had shared a similar record back between 1989 and 1990 in Sharjah. West Indies too stand alongside them in the unique list with 10 such wins in Brisbane between 1992 and 2001.

Zimbabwe vs India, 3rd ODI

India have won the toss and have opted to bat

Teams:

Zimbabwe (Playing XI): Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Innocent Kaia, Regis Chakabva(w/c), Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Ryan Burl, Tony Munyonga, Luke Jongwe, Brad Evans, Victor Nyauchi, Richard Ngarava

India (Playing XI): Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul(c), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson(w), Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan

Regis Chakabva : With the ball we need to try and take early wickets today, and then try to deliver with the bat. A couple of changes for us- Richard Ngarava and Tony Munyonga are in, Tanaka Chivanga and Wessly Madhevere miss out. Happy to be doing something different today (bowling first).

KL Rahul : We'll bat first. Just want to challenge ourselves. I've been short of playing time so I'm eager to get some runs and spend time in the middle. Siraj has been very good for the last couple of seasons, he's done well for his franchise and he's brought that form into the ODI game as well. He's very good when there's a bit of moment in the surface. Couple of changes - Siraj and Prasidh miss out, Deepak Chahar and Avesh Khan come in.

IND 69/1 (18.4) CRR: 3.7

Another pasting coming for Zim!

Very poor batting from KL Rahul...expected more from him. Looked like he has lost his form in the long break. He will open for us in 6 days time against Pakistan

He shouldn't open. We have better and more aggressive openers than him.

He shouldn't open. We have better and more aggressive openers than him.

Thing is, he cant bat in middle order. I know he did few times in ODIs but no such experience in T20s.

So if KL has to play, he need to open. The onus is on then on Rohit to play a flyer without bothering much about throwing his wicket.

Why can't he bat in middle order? His record in ODIs is way way better in middle order than at the top. In middle, he would average 55 at 100+ strike rate while at top, he would average 40 at 80 strike rate. Quite a contrasting difference.

Youngsters not playing. Playing 29-30 year olds like Thakur etc. Instead of Mohsin Umran Kuldeep sen.

The selectors are rubbish.

In this day and age of teams scoring @ 7 rpo right from the word go, only we are capable of playing Dhawan and Rahul in same XI. Add FTB Ishan to it, you surely have recipe for disaster against good teams.

Have always maintained, Rahul is so bloody overrated that its not even funny anymore.

Why are we hellbent on making an international cricketer out of Ishan? Is that due to his IPL 'exploits'?

Dhawan is so much past it that it looks like selectors don't even look at how he has been batting for last few years and just automatically name him in final XI.

Yes it is insult to compare him to Gilly 2.0 :inti

In terms of batsmanship

Pant
Samson
Kishan

Thats the order.

Why is Dhawan still playing? No one knows. Its like a retirement pension scheme to keep him playing.

Agreed.

Generally you rest 1-2 senior player after winning the series. Not sure what Dhawan is trying to achieve by playing this game, probably want to make sure no one takes his spot in ODIs lol.

This is a quota system team selection. Old buddies will play.

See how difficult it was to remove Rahane. Dhawan is even more difficult. Usually you have players who play 3 formats or just tests or just LoIs. Here is a unique only ODI player. As if we lack batsmen.

India wins despite our selection not because of them.

Gill's 1st international ton up.

Hope this will be first of many.

2 glorious back to back 6s by Samson.

He is gone next ball though.

If only Rahul and Dhawan didn't do their usual tuk tuk!

Zimbabwe chased down big scores recently against Bangladesh.

India should not relax here as it gets easier to bat 2nd here

Axar has definitely left a mark.

Hope Jadeja doesn't come back to our LoI teams.

Thakur once again showing why he doesn't deserve to play international cricket in any format.

No-balls after no-balls and they're miss fielding like someone's paying them to do it.

Sikandar Raza should get to play in various franchise cricket leagues.
He is very useful cricketer.
Brilliant innings against India.

We may or may not win this game. But one thing is certain, these Chahars, Thakurs, Aveshs don't deserve to play international cricket.

Their franchisees may continue to play them in all IPL games though.

Zimbabwe seems to have very passionate fans.

Very energetic. Too bad Zimbabwe hasn't progressed as a cricket nation.

IPL is not the real cricket or any franchise league cricket for that matter.

They get millions in IPL but they definitely don't worth millions.

One thing is certain. Rahul is a disaster both as a player and as a captain.
