His son's selection was actually making the rounds on Social Media as how he wasn't even in the top 40 something batters and suddenly was announced to be part of the Squad.....But what can we say man :(

Boss is Boss !!

Any news on other teams participating?

You'd have to check with your local boys who keep an eye on such things....

may be Executioner or MMHS might help you out with this !!

Surprised that Babar Azams younger brother, Safeer, didn't make the squad.

Safeer play's cricket ??? Going by what I've seen online, doesn't really look like a professionally committed athlete TBH.

So 2 players from my club, Nasir Nawaz and Ibrar Zaman added.

Watch out for these two guys. I have seen Ibrar developed from my own eyes. A real hard worker. Not a single day has he been absent from club. The guy would even skip his relatives marriages to reach club. He bowls at good length and could move the ball with inswing and outswing.

He is much better then Yasir Jan who has been over-hyped

Good to hear. What about Nasir Nawaz? Is he a batsman? And if so, ishe a good one?

He is a batsmen, he has scored many 100s. He was a developed player well before. I hear rumours that he even went after Sohail Tanvir while batting.

Surprised that no one from the U19 WC this year made it. Is there some ruling because there are definitely some brilliant players (Shadab, Saif Badar, Hasan Mohsin) who can still gain a lot of experience and make Pakistan a better side.

They might have grown older than 19. I think the criteria is something like you have to be u19 before 1 Jan 2016. Not sure though.

Me to I was surprised hopefully this new lot does well too.

I think, the squad is selected from performing players in last Inter-Region OD Tournament (& 3 day as well) - most of the names, I actually find among the top batting & bowling charts, though, yes, there are few questionable ones as well. May be, few top performers are missing because of questionable age.

I think, the squad is picked targeting the 2016 U19 WC, as I see most of the players are officially 17 or 18. Most of these players will be eligible for that tournament - also, there is no point selecting players like Shadab Khan, Sameen Gul, Mudassar, Badar, The WK of U19 team - because they are already selected at a higher level (PAK A, PSL, FC Sides or List A Clubs), rather this is better to bring more young players under Radar. When the time for WC comes, if any of those players are still eligible, they will be called from the FC Cricket. Technically, had Amir & Umar not been in AUS, they could have played for 2010 WC in NZ - in a tournament, where Ahmed played after debuting for PAK in T20 & ODI. BCB had been doing this for last few years - grooming an official U17 team for 1+ year & bring back couple of experienced (In U19 WC) players in tournament. I think, Miraj, Shanto, Anik, Anamul & few others actually played multiple U19 WCs

TalentSpotterPk : Instead of fantasy, do some genuine good work yaar - make an article on these 19 players with information such as - age (approximate real age), structure (height, weight), skills (batting, bowling, fielding position), style ( spin, pace, WK, left-right), suitable batting position, bowling specialty etc. We can see the stats in PCB website, which I am not looking for obviously.

Useless!!!! These players have to wait at least 4-5 years if not more under current system

Thank God. The player with a "well known" dad has been removed from the squad.

KARACHI: The Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar has questioned the selection of Pakistan U19 squad for upcoming Asia Cup as it does not have a single player from Karachi region after Azam Khan was declared over age.

Karachi won the ODI championship this year and were the winners last year as well but despite top performances its players have been neglected -- which includes likes of Hassan Khan, Hasan Mohsin, Abrar Ahmad, Ram Ravi, Ammad Alam and few others.

Nadeem said he was shocked that national junior selection committee overlooked top performances while he also slammed board's decision to not include eligible players just because they will not be available for next year's U19 World Cup.

"I'm surprised what sort of treatment is being laid out to players of Karachi that not a single player of the biggest city and champions is not part of Pakistan U19," Nadeem said.

"Our teams have been doing so well over the last few years and yet our players have been sidelined. The PCB should have never allowed players to play in regional tournament if they were not to be considered. It's total waste of millions and time and injustice with the deserving players."

Nadeem urged the PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan to look into the matter stating it is about the future of the next generation.

Wow he is so tall. I hope he is pacy, will become such a menacing bowler.

Talent bhai you know anything about Shaheen Shah afridi? Is he pacy or can he Swing the ball?

Yes he is left arm medium fast bowler. I have seen him bowl. He is a good prospect but very raw and in initial stage of development. He needs atleast 4-5 years.

Soon you will find his bowling video at my Youtube Channel.

Is there any genuine pace bowler comping up through the U19 ranks ?

This has been the trend for last few years, Afghanistan and Bangladesh u19s seem alot stronger than Pakistan and India are simply out of reach it seems. Hopefully Pakistan can bounce back!

Bangladesh will knock out Pakistan from the tournament tomorrow.

When Pakistani batsmen will get out all the bangladesh players should sing "Tumi aekla cholo rey back towards the dressing room".

That's to do with a proprosterious instructions laid down by the icc that only those players should be selected who wd be eligible to play next under19 world cup. In other words players who would be over 19 years of age by the time next under 19 world is to be played ain't eligible for selection in Asia cup.

Afghanistan U-19 cricket team beats Pakistan in Asia Cup

The Afghanistan Under-19 national cricket team defeated Pakistan by 21 runs in their opening match of the Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup.

The Afghan team set a target of 274 runs from 50 overs and by losing only 3 wickets after Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first.

Opening batsman Naveed Obaid made 31 runs and Ibrahim Zadran 51 runs while Tariq scored 59 runs and Darwish Rasooli remained not out after scoring 92 runs with Nisar Wahdat who scored 11 runs.

The Pakistani Under-19 cricket team could not chase the given target and lost all their wickets in 49.1 overs.

Pakistan’s middle order batsmen did their best to chase the target with Abdullah Shafique scoring 60 runs along with Saad Khan who scored 48 runs.

On the bowling side of the Afghan team, Zahir Khan took 3 wickets, Mujeeb 2 wickets, and Naveed-ul-Haq, Shams ur Rehman, Ibrahim Zadran, and Parwiz 1 wicket each to restrict the Pakistan team before they manage to chase the given target.

The match was played in Uyanwatte Stadium which is situated on the southern tip of Sri Lanka.

That's a disaster but tbf one can't be sure of "ages" of Afghanistan U19,congrats to them anyway.

Do we have any promising batsman or bowler from this lot @talentspotter, Junaid

Fast, medium or swing? How about speed? Height?
Any batsman

I cant really tell speed because we dont have speed guns in nets.

He knows how to bowl at the right line and length. He could seam the ball both inside and outside.

He is very tall

The guy belong to a poor family though and is not fed well. He works in the mandi aswell..

Point being if he could eat well develope more muscles he could be even better

Bangladesh 230 all out. We will loose this match as well. Our batting is weak as well.

Pakistan Under-19s 46/0 RR: 6.57,

Muhammad Zaid Alam 26 (15b 4x4 1x6)

Muhammad Mohsin Khan 14 (27b 3x4 0x6)

Pakistan need to win in the next three balls to qualify for the semis. Bangladesh already through.

Pakistan win but are still out of the tournament. Did they not know they had to get the job done by 47.3 overs?

Poor stuff by Pakistan then.

Anyways good to see them win the match. By the time WC comes they will be ready.

30 extras, 4 run outs

it doesn't matter what level, Pakistan will always be Pakistan.

Happy for the win but really should have qualified

U19 coach promises Pakistan's cricketing future is bright

KARACHI: Pakistan junior side head coach Mansoor Rana insists there is no need to panic after his team suffered a shock early exit from the U19 Asia Cup underway in Sri Lanka.

The Boys in Green, who entered the eight-nation tournament as one of the main title contenders, failed to even qualify for the semi-finals after a poor showing in the group stage.

Pakistan were knocked out of the tournament after being stunned by minnows Afghanistan, losing by 21 runs.

The colts did defeat Bangladesh in their next Group B match but it wasn’t enough to see them through to the next round, as Afghanistan and Bangladesh qualified at their expense courtesy of superior run-rate.

Hosts Sri Lanka and India qualified for the semi-finals from group A.

“It’s disheartening to see the team exiting the tournament in such a way,” Rana, a former Pakistan cricketer, told The Express Tribune from Colombo. “We were expected to do well in the tournament as we were one of the favourites along with India and Sri Lanka but we failed.”

Rana feels a lack of experience was the main reason behind the team’s dismal showing.

“We had to field inexperienced players because of the requirements from the organisers about the age cut-off date of players,” he said, with only players who will be eligible to feature in the U19 World Cup next year allowed to participate. “Almost all the players were playing their first international tournament and it was a huge challenge for them.”

The new rules forced Pakistan to make several changes but they were not the only team to be hit by them, as India also had to make seven last-minute changes.

Rana insisted the players have the potential to do well in the U19 World Cup despite their poor showing here.

“Our players showed a lot of promise under pressure and this will help them in New Zealand,” he said. “The team management has already started plans for the World Cup. These players will undergo several training camps before the mega tournament.”

‘Selection of U19 squad not unfair’

Ahead of the tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) junior selection committee was criticised for not including any player from Karachi in the Pakistan U19 squad after Azam Khan – son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan – was dropped at the last minute for being ‘overage’.

Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar, an ardent promoter of cricket at the grassroots level, said he was shocked after Karachi players were overlooked from the national junior squad.

“Karachi won the [National] ODI championship this year and were winners last years as well still their players have been neglected,” Omar said in a statement.

However, Rana claimed the players were selected purely on merit. “I didn’t have much of a role in the selection but I feel the committee did their best. It was not about any city; it was about the country.”

SOme of the Afghan players have already played international cricket.

Anyways, Afghanis giving a fair taste of the cheating that subcontinent has always done with the age changing and playing over age players.

ACC banned a few teams back in 2008 in the U-15category because of overage players. That they don't bother to check ages in a big tournament like this has become an excuse for some people to brush off their teams' poor performance.

Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma seem to be the top talents from this group.

The medium pacers got clattered though unfortunately.

As usual SL gets whooped by India. Just saw the highlights and as usual the Indian batsmen look very complete while the SL batsmen looked a bit more raw. Tons of finger spin bowling as expected at this age, there was just one indian wrist spinner and he bowled very well. Lot of mindless batting by SL as usual. India was clearly the better and much more mature team.
