India Under-19s: Genuine fast bowlers coming through

Well Saurashtra went after Mavi in second inning.

Harvik Desai, the wicketkeeper of u19 wc winner who hit the winning runs in final from golden batch of Shaw, Gill, Nagarkoti and Mavi himself bunted out excellent UP attack.

Pujara will most probably take Saurashtra home easily.

The Saurashtra vs UP match showed that one could not get complacent. UP got complacent in their second innings and paid the price. It is a good learning experience for Mavi as well.

Depends what you mean by genuine fast, for me a genuine quick is one capable of bowling spells consistently at and above 90mph - or in the 145-150kph range if not higher.

In recent 2000s era only bowlers capable of that kind of pace on a regular basis that I recall were Shoaib, Brett Lee, Shane Bond, Shaun Tait, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Dale Steyn. Bowlers capable of such extreme pace come far and few between.

Otherwise getting the occasional ball touching 90mph, even Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan managed that I’m sure.

This is exactly what makes this thread quite amusing.

Pure pace is highly overrated. If that was the only criteria, Windies would be leading in all formats. The game is now skewed towards the batsman and you need thinking, smart bowlers who can outsmart the batsman.

I would take Mohd Abbas or Kumar over a bowler relying on pure pace. Our Pindi express has very well chronicled the toll pac bowling took on his body and how it shortened his cricketing career

That is a good point, and I won’t disagree that smartness and bowling with intelligence to outfox the batsma is a greater quality than raw pace alone, but .. the point is if you have a fast bowler who ticks on the smartness (intelligence), variety and complements that with pace — then the results are devastating. Very few bowlers are able to combine those three elements together, but among the best I’ve seen actually like Marshall, Imran, Holding, Wasim Akram were all super smart, had variety and skills, and extreme pace to go with it ... the results were there for all to see.

Agree , fast bowlers blessed in all these attributes are few and far between.

It’s interesting if you use this criteria of (1) Smartness, (2) Skills/Variety and (3) Pace — looking at some of the failures.. Mohammed Sami comes to mind as someone who was blessed with raw pace and actually had talent and skills as a bowler, but in terms of bowling intelligence— probably one of the lowest ranking bowlers in that department ever.

Saini - insanely talented - tall & fast

Nagorkoti & Mavi are still work in progress

Seems the fast bowling factory has shifted from Pakistan to India

Nagorkoti and Mavi are struggling with their actions after injuries and have both lost their zip. Saini looks good over 4 overs but lets see if he has the longevity in the extended games.

I personally believe Tyagi is the best prospect we have. Is only 19, has decent pace, height and one of the smoothest run ups and actions. Lambi race ka ghoda

Mavi and Nagarkoti has been disappointment so far.

Tyagi is raw but has good pace and also height as well.

Ishan Porel didn't get any chances in the IPL so far.

Prasidh Krishna has been impressive too. Consistently 140 kph with nice smooth action.

Disappointment is a big word in itself,Mavi came from back to back serious back injuries and just recently started bowling(July-August),if IPL was played in March-April ,he wouldn't have played it anyway,
Nagarkoti s performance isn't disappointing either,is slowly getting into the mould coming back after 2 years in competitive cricket, got belted by AB(not surprising)last game, before that over was going at <6rpo

Mavi and nagarkoti are our worst ones and even they have potential as both just came back after serious injuries.

Porel
Prasidh
Saini
Tyagi

That's our best talents.

They have age on their side, unlike Prasidh and Saini
