We will do better than that unless there is an epic collapse. Saha, Ashwin, Jaddu, Jayant all are capable batsmen to chip in with 30's and 40's. Lot will depend on current pair though esp Rahane.
 
Rahul needs some challenge for motivation! But he should be consistent. He should not go the Laxman way (special occasions / tough times player). At the top of the order we need more consistency and reliability! But what an innings so far! If he goes on and gets 100 or 150, it would seal India's position in this test match!

The problem is when India tours his 80-100 matter a lot just like Rahane's .
 
At 45 for 3, I thought about the possibility of a collapse like the bad old days. However, we now have a bunch of players who make more than a million dollars a year from IPL. The money should have fortified their confidence.

Well, if we collapse same bunch will say IPL money has made them complacent or lazy :)

Anyway current test team main se no one makes millions apart from Kohli. Likes of Pujara and Jayant are not even picked by a club :|

Rahul fails on much easier pitches than this and here he is playing a superb knock. He is still a bit impetuous but he can be a very good batsman in the future.

Not random. Starc is testing him with 3 types of deliveries and the slips are located based on that. Full on off stump, seaming away from off stump on a length, wide and full

The line which Starc is bowling and the angle he is creating from over the wicket, there should be a first slip, a second slip and and a fielder at fourth slip/gully position. Both of Rahul's edges would have gone to fielders.

Rahane the worst top order player against spin to play for india.

He doesnt have any shots against spin. He can just defend that too not that well and he is a sitting duck wjen he tries to score.
 
This pitch is a raging turner. Spinners paradise. Aussies just batted well and Indian spinners didn't bowl a consistent enough length

Where are all those Indian posters who want these kinds of pitches? See these pitches take the quality of teams out of context and then it's just a lottery. I am all for turners like the one we played in Mumbai against England. This is the reason why Bangladesh drew against England. On any kind of pitch whether it's a turner, flat, seam, swing, England would have been all over Bangladesh, but because it was a lottery, Bangladesh were able to win a match against them. We were actually lucky not to have lost at least a test match against South Africa in that infamous series. I am not being sour grapes, just calling out those posters. We should go back to our typical India wickets.

That's why should not go for rank turners (especially in the very first test match of the series!) Indian batting unit is not seasoned to take on such pitches! Indian fans were pleading for turning pitches. Got to be lucky with the toss (and also hope that opposition batsmen play more badly)

Even Australia play it safe in their den with flat pitches with marginal bounce. Hope Warne is happy now!
