What's new

India v England | 3rd Test | Mohali | Nov 26-30, 2016 | Day 2

Something is wrong with Vijay. He was happy to get out. He is either injured and hiding it or he is having some personal issues. He has been playing with not much interest.

Patel looks a quality batsman. But would you sacrifice Saha's keeping to strengthen the lower order? Tough call.

Patel did a pretty good job behind the stumps.

Patel is a much better stroke maker and also plays spinners much better than Saha

Saha's keeping is overrated.

Of the present lot Pujara seems to be the only one capable of getting a Double Century in tests.

Why the dislike?

Wicket keeping is a very difficult job. You have to keep for an entire innings and then you're out to open the innings which is very strenuous.

this!

after crouching for 100+ overs its not right to send a keeper to bat right away

he'll be tired and just make stupid mistakes due to fatigueness

Not often I get to say this about indian fast bowlers, but I think Mohammad Shami is a fantastic bowler!! I really enjoy watching him bowl . . his skill, pace, accuracy . . just brilliant! For me, along with Zaheer Khan he has been the best Indian fast bowler I have seen since the mid 90s

didnt kohli literally get one last series?

also he got 150+ last match

what makes you say Saha is any good of a keeper?

he makes mistakes

There isn't any keeper that doesn't. He's generally very safe and collects the ball cleanly. Very athletic as well. He's still new to the international arena. It takes a while for keepers to settle in, early signs are very good.

Parthiv Patel, OUT for 42. .England got him after successful review.
India 2/73

English pacers bowling well.

Woakes has gained quite a bit of pace over the year. Used to be a trundler 2 years ago.

England 283
India 82/2 (32.1 ov)
India trail by 201 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
India RR 2.54
Last 10 ovs 22/1 RR 2.20
Min overs remaining 51.5
Day 2 - Session 2

Virat Kohli (rhb) 7 (14)
Cheteshwar Pujara (rhb) 18 (57)

Fantastic test cricket here.

Two top notch bowlers bowling very testing lines against two very good batsmen.

Reverse swing has been the most prominent here among all the other venues in this series. Probably due to the wickets on the square.

India 95/2 (35.2 ov)
India trail by 188 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

Virat Kohli (rhb) 15 (26)
Cheteshwar Pujara (rhb) 23 (64)

India 104/2 (40.6 ov)
India trail by 179 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
Virat Kohli (rhb) 20 (49)
Cheteshwar Pujara (rhb) 27 (79)

Viru said " batty's bowling is like traffic signal. Everyone is breaking him" :))

Cracking running between the wickets!
Spl mention to Pujara, who has had both of his knees replaced iirc.

Tea, and quite a good session for India.

England simply have far too much depth in their batting and bowling. They have 6 bowling options + Root. That's just insane.

That was a god like jinx from Nasser. Starts likening Pujara as a wall at 3 to Dravid then he smashes a long hop to square leg!

I have made up my mind about Rahane now. He is no good on slower tracks.

Pujara and Rahane both are unreliable player. Please stop insulting Rahul Dravid by comparing him with pujara and rahane. Pujara can't even play long innings at home and is rubbish abroad.

Rahane gone for a duck. Kohli and debutant at the crease now.

Nair off the mark with a :4:

India in a spot of bother, trail by 127.

Chalo ji.. Ho gaya aaj ka kaam poora.

The shot by Pujara was dhawan/rahane-esque. And the usual stupidity followed.
Rahane's shot was a shocker really.

Taking nothing away from the fantastic fielding by england.

Lol what a turn of events in a short span of time. India looking comfortable to struggling to get parity with England. Pujara started the collapse with his brain fa*t but my god, Rahane is very poor against spin. He might get dropped in Asia at this rate.

India needed a minimum of a 100 run lead in the first innings to be in safe territory. Now they will need something special to get even in safe territory.

Players like Laxman, Dravid, Sachin, would have bashed a spinner like Rashid, this is embarrassing man. All I wanted from India was to end Rahid's career but what are you guys doing? If you really want to throw away your wickets, give it to :moali

What is Kohli's weakness? How do you get him out? Has any team worked him out?

This should be the assignment of all the bowlers in the world. :kohli

Ashwin is effortlessly fluent. With a fitter body, his batting potential would have been very high.

In 2014 summer he was dismissed by moving ball outside off, that's his life long weakness and is a flat, spin and bounce track bully. FIXED

Real good session for england.

Kohli gone. Seemed like lapse in concentration?

Not to be a prat about this, but it was always obvious that India would have a mini-collapse at some point. They are far too reliant on Kohli and Pujara, and Ashwin to a lesser extent - and that too on a pitch that is offering much more for the bowlers than in the opening 2 Tests.

There is no way this was ever a 450 pitch - hence the content of my posts yesterday. 350 would have been an excellent 1st innings score; 283 as it turned out to be has itself been rather competitive, and England did reasonably well in getting there - in spite of the ludicrous, unknowledgeable and unprofessional demands of English ex-pros who never won in India like Vaughan and Agnew who expected a score of 380/4 at stumps on the first day.

This will be a one innings shoutout of a match, not the innings defeat that was being predicted last night.

Quite true, they can never be half the man that Alaistar Cook is.

England spinners have improved so much since Saqlain became spin coach.

Very accurate compared last few matches. Rashid especially has improved a lot.

Credit to BCCI for producing such a wicket. Reverse swing in it, some spin, and if you put your head down you can score some runs.

It was all Pujara and Kohli in South Africa, Vijay and Rahane in England, Kohli in Australia, Rahul in WI, Pujara and Kohli now in India. This is the reason why we are not able to score 400s, 450s consistently. Will we ever see the top 5 scoring runs together?

Good partnership this. Bailing us out of conceding lead to England. We may get a significant lead if these two leave the field together today.

Fantastic fifty from Ashwin. What a player he has been for India. If only his fielding was good enough....

Lol Indian fans are so negative, a lead of at least 50 puts them in a good position. Once India level up the scores cook will go defensive

India looks in good position now

Still far away from 'good position' I'd say. Pitch is still good for batting. We should bat for another session and a half tomorrow irrespective of RR. What that would do is we will get a decent lead and also England will bat their 2nd innings in not easier conditions.

Batting last will be a big disadvantage. We need another 100 runs to level that.

India's day thanks to Ash and Jaddu (Parthiv, Pujara and Kohli scored but couldn't go on) but what is this performance.

Man....we are reliant on 2-3 bats to score EVERY FRIGGING time.

Rahane needs to be dropped. Horses for courses policy. We will get him back on for Aus home tour. We cannot afford to lose to Pommies.

I am tired of his lullooing against spin.

One mistake by Pujara (got out to a lollypop ball I heard) and Kohli screwing Nair and we almost lost this test if not for these 2.

I am sure Pujara and Nair will score but this Rahane fellow...something must be done. Bohot ho gaya.

Like the way Ashwin and Jadeja bat, like proper batsmen rather than just tailenders swinging wildly.

Some days back saw somewhere Rahane is the only player to have played every game under Kohli's captaincy. Everyone else has been dropped or got injured atleast once under him.

Anyways, I dont think Kohli will drop Rahane.Actually he simply can't drop him given his calibre in the longer format.

A failure from Ashwin with the bat here and India might well have been under severe trouble.

Will be if he continues like this.

We can't carry him in a 5 batting lineup.

The only thing saving him is our lower order's performance. If they didn't click, we would have lost a test atleast and by now, he may have been dropped or close to being dropped.

Anyways, he is close to being dropped imho. Kohli knows what is means to select 5 bowlers (he talks about the responsibility of 5 batsmen) and if Rahane continues this way, it may not be long before he is asked to take rest and get back his form.

Not a bad idea imho.

No way Rahane will be dropped. But i agree he is average against spin compared to some of the batsmen from present and the past.

Rahane for whom?

His highest score came in last series only

Relax man! He will come good. You simply can't drop a test player of his calibre with one bad series.
