India v Pakistan: Love the excitement and buzz!

Younis Khan in an interview

"If I speak of the Indian players and the Pakistani players, there is much friendship that can be seen right now, which is a good thing. That atmosphere of tension is no longer there. Now what should happen is that our cricketing ties should revive and we should play regularly so that we can put to rest all this negative talk that usually accompanies Pakistan-India matches"

Question to Rohit and Babar: When you meet in an informal gathering such as this (Captain's meeting in Melbourne) - what do you talk about?

Babar Azam:

"We never talk about cricket - just have a general conversation, he [Rohit] is elder to me and has achieved so much so I try and get some advice from him"

Rohit Sharma:

"As Babar said, we understand the importance of our games but there is no point talking about it every time and creating that pressure within yourself, so when we met in the Asia Cup and here, we spoke about how our families were and this is the same when I have met with other teammates of Babar"

"All the players from our previous generations who have played such games always told us that even they would talk about family, life in general, what new car have they bought or about to buy"

This just got serious

Plenty going on behind the scenes now because of BCCI’s decision to not tour Pakistan

Will the gloves finally come off this Sunday or during this World Cup? No more bhai chaara and pyaar?

Not really.

Players live in a completely different world and environments these days. They won't care about such things. You can look back at the bhaichara during the 2016 Asia cup and WT20... just a couple of months after Pathankot. This is nothing compared to that.

this sunday you can only spot them wearing jackets and rain coats.

They are athletes and not soldiers, yes they want to win for their country and that is done by using/displaying better skills on the day at the ground, not by shooting ur opponents.... its only the Indian side (people/board/govt [mainly]) which play spoilled brats and cry babies and mix sports with politics...

Maybe you should read about world sports better then.
Why Russia has been barred from Olympics?

What next? BCCI = IOC :facepalm

No point winning this game and losing a knockout with Pakistan in the same tournament later - either win both or lose this and win the knockout

"The India-Pakistan match has always been a rivalry. The entire world experiences the match and enjoys it. Even we enjoy it a lot. I feel that the level of cricket is very good and competitive. Fans miss the India-Pakistan match and both teams always give their 100 percent," Babar Azam speaking on Star Sports.

"Bolne Se Kuch Nahi Hota": Shadab Khan Responds To Ajit Agarkar's "Virat Kohli Will Handle" Remark.

Shadab Khan gave a firm reply to BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar's comment on India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match.

The Asia Cup 2023 might be beginning on August 30, but it's the India vs Pakistan clash on September 02 that has everyone's attention. In fact, when the Indian squad for the Asia Cup was announced, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, was also asked about handling the esteemed pace attack of Pakistan. Agarkar responded saying "Virat Kohli will handle them". Now, Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has responded to Agarkar's claim, saying it's only what one does on the field that matters and not what is being said before or after the match.

See, it all depends on what happens that day. Me or someone else, or someone from their side, can say whatever they want. It doesn't make any difference. When the match takes place, then only we'll get to know what is the reality)," Shadab said, responding to a reporter's question.

While I agree, their are some merits to state that virat will handle us. Primarily because virat is a god at playing against Pakistan, even if virat has a purple patch, he seems to regain it against Pakistan.

I don't think Ajit Agarkar made that statement. It was some fake tweet by a twitter handle quoting him.
Pakistani journalist asked the question without doing verification.

I have booked flight tickets everything but forecast says its raining on 2 sep. Can someone suggest. Should i cancel? Or match will happen?
What does history suggest for kandy forecast changing ? Drainage , etc ?

The weather in Colombo was sunny when we were there but according to google it’s the tail end of the monsoon season so could expect some rains.

Worst case scenario, can’t really go wrong spending a weekend in Sri Lanka :)

Please BCCI let’s just play this game somewhere else if weather is garbage

He's wasting money if he goes to Sri Lanka and not get his game regardless. But shabash india, don't come to Pakistan to play. 😂.

These Asia Cup matches between India and Pakistan don't mean much, main battle will be the one at the world cup between the two teams.

Naw fam, they always mean much, India is one side we should not lose to,

Even if they played it as a charity or fundraiser rather then in a mini tournament it would still be good.

Also I disagree, assuming India meets pak in Asia cup 2 or 3x, the matches will be a good indication as to how to proceed for the world cup.

If we win it'll dampen India's confidence.

New Delhi, Aug 29 (PTI) The first lot of tickets for the marquee World Cup clash between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14 has been sold out within an hour after ICC's ticketing partner 'Book My Show' opened its exclusive pre-sale window.

While there will be another round of general sale for the India-Pakistan match on September 3, there is a chance that there would be a complete sell-out within hours, like it happened on Tuesday for all the Mastercard holders.

It couldn't be confirmed as to how many tickets were put online during the pre-sale window for all India matches and the warm-up games but it has been learnt that, after the sales opened at 6 pm IST, within an hour, all tickets on the day were exhausted.

Hope the matches are worth the hype.

It has been very very long since an India Pak ODI saw an even contest which was in balance for 75-80% of match.

We have only seen blowouts over last several years and format of ODIs is such that same will continue.

The my excitement got dampened by the 70% rain forecast for Saturday's match. Hope the rain stays away for the duration of the match. Tomorrow night the curcus of Pak-Bharat Takra shows will start in media on both sides with former cricketers too joining the slugfest. Hope for a exciting match like Melboune 22 and also hope the result will be the same :)

I disagree. Considering how less both teams play each other even dead rubbers are watched with excitement and fervour. WC gives that extra edge but even bilaterals if played today will draw crowds and excitements for all three formats of the game.

Currently, Pakistan is leading in terms of numbers and they are also displaying strong cricket performance. Therefore I don't think anything unfavorable will happen.

There'll be 3-5 Pakistan India games in the next couple months, we really are being treated. And Saturday's one is the least important of them all, I don't care too much if it's rained off.

Any Asia Cup meetings are just starters, just tasters to whet your appetite before the real main course on October 14. The hype and nerves for that one is going to be stratospheric as usual.

India-Pakistan cricket match is more than just a game it's a clash of emotions, history, and fierce rivalry on the field.

Actually not too excited for this Saturday (mainly because it’s going to be rained off)

Next round tie will be a blockbuster event

It probably won't be rained off, weather reports have been wrong before.

Sri lanka vs bangaldesh was suppose to be raining and overs reduced but we got a full game.

The drainage is crap though, that’s why they cover most of the ground. Probably get a “play delayed due to wet outfield”.

73 - 55 head 2 head the only stat I care about in cricket. India could be touching 60 by the end of the World Cup.
The above stat will likely remain in Pakistan’s favour for another 15 or 20 years since both the teams don’t play each other in bilateral series. Doesn’t indicate the ability or strength of both the teams in the meanwhile, does it? All it indicates is historical performance.

Just a wee stat to remind everyone whose been more dominant historically👍🏼

13-1 is greater than any other numbers

88-73 overall. Winning 1 game every 4 years means jack.

Did you end up going ?
If you did, post some pictures of the ground / atmosphere !

Looks like players in good mood last night

A heady cocktail of colourful costumes, ear-splitting noise and immense passion can mean only one thing at an ICC Cricket World Cup – India against Pakistan.

Since their first meeting in 1952, the two teams have shared some of the most dramatic matches and jaw-dropping moments in cricket history.

Ahead of their latest meeting on 14 October, we examine just how big the rivalry has become and the current state of play ahead of their duel in Ahmedabad.

White-ball cricket’s fiercest rivalry?

A look back at the numbers from their 2019 showdown serves as a reminder of the scale of the occasion.

Over 700,000 ticket requests, 600 media requests, a reported one billion TV viewers – and that was ahead of a sodden Sunday affair in Manchester, never mind a sultry Saturday at the world’s largest arena, the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The Ashes may have history on its side, and there is no lack of bite when England and Australia collide, but their meetings in the shorter format might not quite have the same edge as when India take on Pakistan.

Their meetings in cricket’s global event are as close to a rock concert as the sport will come.

A history like no other

From an opening meeting in the format in 1978 which went down to the final ball – India winning by four runs – this rivalry has been electric.

Pakistan have enjoyed the better of it overall, winning 73 times to their neighbours’ 56, but on the World Cup stage, the roles have been reversed.

The teams first met in 1992 in the World Cup, with India winning by 43 runs in Sydney, and they have a perfect record ever since, winning all seven meetings.

Of course, for Pakistan, that 1992 tournament still brings with it happy memories, as Imran Khan led them to their only World Cup victory to date.

In head-to-heads though, it is India who have claimed the bragging rights, with perhaps the most entertaining meeting coming in 2003 when Saeed Anwar’s stunning century was cancelled out by a brilliant 98 from Sachin Tendulkar as India won by six wickets on their way to a place in the final.

Tendulkar was at it again in an iconic knock in the 2011 semi-final as India won the title on home soil, while Virat Kohli’s courageous century in 2015 was a reminder that the world’s best players always seem to hit top form when the neighbours are in town.

What to expect this time...

After ending a five-year trophy drought with a resounding Asia Cup success, expectations are sky-high for host nation India.

Preparations until now could not have gone much better, with KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah back to their best, Shubman Gill in irresistible form and Kuldeep Yadav showing why he is indispensable.

Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep finished the tournament with nine wickets at 11.44 and his effectiveness in the middle overs could prove crucial in stifling India's nearest and dearest.

There were mitigating circumstances for Pakistan's Asia Cup struggles, with injuries to Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf debilitating their pace attack.

Naseem’s potentially tournament-ending shoulder injury is a particular cause for concern, with the 20-year-old boasting a fine record against the Men in Blue.

They will be up against it, crossing the border for ODI action for the first time in a decade, but will be determined to bounce back quickly.

What is for sure, is that every run will be an event, every wicket cheered like a win and at the end of it all, one team will take a giant step towards fulfilling the hopes and dreams of a nation.

ICC

As the match day is approaching the media is intensifying the India vs. Pakistan portraying it more like a battlefield.

In response to a question on aggression on the field (against India), Haris Rauf replied:

"We are playing cricket, it's not as if this is a war, we have aggression and it doesn't matter of others have a belief in us or not, but we have a belief in ourselves that we are the best and we will give our best as well, we don't think about what others think of us"

India vs Zimbabwe had attendancec of 85000 in world T20, 2022 in Australia. But India vs Australia had an attendancec of 31000 which was very poor. Some ticket corruption has led to this. I won't be surprised if the crowd is less for India vs Pakistan given how much they messed up ticket distribution. Buzz will be there always. I remember Sehwag saying that he didn't feel like playing in warm up in 2012 in the warm up match against Pakistan

I thought this was a thread on/ for Indian-Pakistanis talking about their dilemma of supporting (or not supporting) either country 🫠

Anyway, any fellow Indian-Pakistanis here? I am married to someone who doesn't give two hoots about the game of cricket and I grew up watching cricket with my dad and kinda feel nostalgic and homesick right now..

It would be a much better spectacle if there will be a few thousands Pakistani supporters in the stadium as well for tomorrow's India vs Pakistan match. Expecting a few pin drop silences during the match tomorrow that you don't often see when there are more than 100,000 people watching a cricket match.

Although it is India vs Pakistan. but the Indian crowd should show some hospitality to the Pakistani players as well. One sided support of Indian crowd is very disappointing. We have seen Pak vs Ind matches in Pakistan where the Pakistani crowd supported both the teams.
