So the rain is forecast for about 2 hours ish..
It is 2pm local time at the moment -
Depending on when play is resumed it might easier for India if the target is revised?

If only 2 hours, I dont think overs will be lost. Always easier to chase if DLS comes in

good point....u gotta unsettle by doing somehting different...i guess Jazz boom is good enough to notice and react...buyt yeah....it will make him think diffrerently....

Delivery point of Bumrah is far ahead of lot of other pace bowlers. His 140k will be quicker than Starc's 140k for a batsman. Because his release point is further down. You think Kohli didn't do that in the IPL? No he couldn't smash him around. Only two guys who hit Bumrah around were Pant and Dinesh Karthik. You need to be an exceptional puller to do that.

Yes I know he is smart and knows his game
Hence I said better to try and shuffle around a bit or bat outside crease, in the event he launches a full toss instead
What is the point of just defending it....they need runs so better to take a risk and get out rather than just blocking everything for a dot

True that and even if their ploy isnt very successful it can always unsettle the bowler and he might lose his nerves. After all its a WC semifinal and there is always pressure.
Besides they do have 5 wickets left.No need to preserve them.Go all out an hit it and get to the best you can.

We need to get out there and finish our innings..

D/L will kill us.

Not looking good for a while. I am one mile away from the stadium.

Probably assume there won't be any progress for at least 2 hours if not more.
Just checked the weather forecast and there is a 56% or more chance of rain until 6pm.
So at this stage looks like a revised target and easier for India...

Bumrah is quick and unplayable in the death overs.
But, despite the pace, I wonder if NZ batsmen will consider batting outside the crease or shuffling back and forth between overs to unsettle him.
I know easier said than done but it might be the only way to convert a potential yorker into a full toss.

Bhai kehna kya chahte ho

KP raising good point here. Why didn't NZ unleash Boult on a fresh pitch

India batting is too strong
Deadly openers.. world No.1, greatest babysitter, greatest finisher, nidahas champion, Kapil Dev II,

how can NZ stop this?

Decision of a tied SF or Final on the basis of Super Over has to be the most illogical and nonsensical thing ever in Cricket. You decide a tied 50 over game on the basis of Super Over? What a joke.

I haven’t seen a game yet. But heard that pitch is pretty terrible for Semi. I wonder if England would have got this pitch how would the entire English team and media would be crying. I don’t want ICC purposely create flat pancakes for their matches and undercooked pitches for other teams.

what would you suggest?

237 in 46 overs when they are 211/5 in 46 overs? what a farce of a target. I am not even sure they will get to 237 in 50 overs.

What happens if the match doesn't continue at all today? whats the cut off time, and do they start from scratch tomorrow?

Make it a 10 overs contest, at least, may be. I am not quite sure though. Super Over makes sense in T20I cricket, but not in ODI cricket.

The points in the league stage/NRR/Head-to-head and other parameters which I think they have is fair enough to decide the winner. No need of super over or 10 overs!

There must be a way to crack Bumrah. The guy gets away in almost every match.

He has a unique action, people think his yorkers make him difficult but the thing is that because of his action he gets some nasty bounce from good length that makes him deceptive
remember umer akmal of all people smashing him clt20 for lahore vs Mumbai

I dont know the exact rules, cutoff points etc....but i doubt if they play tommorow it will be from 0/0,,,,it will be from where the game left off....like india vs england 1999 wc final match of group stages....

:ua Don’t underestimate the beast

These are perfect NZ conditions. Get to 240 and get Rohit and Kohli out. Tough to do but possible

He was a skinny kid back then. Now has worked out and has great core strength.

Great new ball bowling, spin bowling and slow bowling by Indians. Truly one of the best bowling lineup. Fielding let India down a bit in this game so far.

It will continue from today. If it rains out tomorrow as well, I dia will go to the final as they had more points in the group

So the rules seem to be....
They will try to finish the game today even if India gets 20 overs to bat, in which case the target is 148
Otherwise the game will be continued tomorrow from where it ended today.

If it keeps raining for one more hour it will help NZ immensely

How will it help?
The shorter the duration the more the chasing side is boosted.
Rohit Sharma will definitely prefer if this is changed to a T2o style contest.

NZ will fancy bowling in these conditions, whatever the target. If India go through on some luck, thoroughly deserved

Boult will only bowl 4 overs. 148 is nothing in 20 overs

Rohit will take time, Rahul will take time. That is how their ODI game has been in this world up. How can they suddenly switch to T20 mode. IT could prove to be risky.

Whaaa....i hope its not a shortened 148 in 20 shootout thats unfair to our efforts in the first half....i hope we come back tommorow...if need be.....*&^%# the rain....go away...:)

Why? The outfield will take a pounding, you can say bye bye to any spin.

I think in this WC the ball did spin a few times when there was a wet outfield, the ball can grip on surface
Might also cause uneven bounce or might keep low.
But this is countered by bowlers finding it difficult to grip a wet ball or generally a wet outfield making it hard to field etc

Regardless , 140 odd in 20 overs will not be a problem for India

At no point NZ made 148 in 20 overs. They are 211 in 46 overs. Which means 63 in 26 overs? Seriously? This is ridiculous. Their last 5 wickets are not worth many runs.

Atleast no one can critisize if India are through with 20 overs play, or two rained off days. They have really showed what a joke this NZ club level team is and the fact that it would NEVER have beaten India in a non rained off game, whether batting first or second.

And Did I mention the rained off group game?

At most 20 overs should have a target like 120. 148 is actually quiet a decent target in T20. Defendable.

Yes, the side chasing has to accelerate, you can it is unfair but they have the benefit of not having to plan for 50 overs.
The batsmen can take risks more freely and the wicket does not have as high a price.
Plus knowing how Rohit Sharma and Kohli like to go after the bowling on these small grounds it should not be a problem.

If the match is reduced I would open with left arm spin alongside Boult.

This is unfair for India...

They scored 50 in the last 5. The pitch has eased with a bit of rain. India is coming off IPL and the same to tuk tuk Rahul and co can score fast. 148 on a wet pith is easier than 240 on a dry pitch

India will have to be ahead of DLS all the time. Key is to not lose too many wickets early

if that happens...it gives me the heebie jeebies....it will be difficult...semis and all....NZ aint pushovers...at least inthat situation....bolt, fergie santner et all will be a handful

Tbh, NZ had a lot of luck already. Overcast conditions, won the toss, couple of drops, couple of umpire calls. Lol they've been given an olive branch all throughout and India still dominated them so far

No team will go at 8 an over in the first 20 except may be England on a dry flat pitch. Not this pitch.

NZ need rain to stay for 2 hours more. 237 in 46 they will take from 170 in 42 overs position.

This may be too early to predict but considering the rain affects the match for say another hour or two- it will take time to take covers off, inspect and reinstate the game.
I also don't think they will want the game to go much beyond 8 or 9 pm ....so there is a chance this will be a 20 over chase... or thereabouts..

It will be a farce if NZ flukes their way into the final lol. That might just happen. 211 in 46 overs they were literally crawling with 27 overs worth of dot balls.
