How I wish Pant was drafted into the squad after his 100. Would love to see him at 4/5 in this side

From the current squad, this will be my 11

Rahul
Dhawan
Rohit
Dhoni (wk)
Rayudu
Kedar Jadhav
Hardik Pandya
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Kuldeep Yadav
Yuzvendra Chahal
Khaleel Ahmed

Bumrah should be rested and played only in the later part of the tournament.

"Realistic"

Rohit *
Shikhar
Rayudu
Rahul (Pandey against HK)
Dhoni + (Karthik against HK)
Jadhav (He'll play, as he's a 6th bowler)
Pandya
Bhuvi (Thakur against HK)
Yadav K (Axar against HK)
Chahal
Bumrah (Khaleel against HK)

Rahul
Dhawan
Rohit
Dhoni (wk)
Rayudu
Kedar Jadhav
Hardik Pandya
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Kuldeep Yadav
Yuzvendra Chahal
Bumrah

I think they will play this team, One thing that has been missed in this forum is that in my opinion due to Kholi missing the tournament India might actually be stronger as from what I have seen Rohit might actually be a better Captain than Kholi.

From the lack of responses here...looks like most Indians either dont care or accepted defeat already.

Anyway below will be my team:

Rahul
Dhawan
Rohit
Pandya
Dhoni
Jadhav
Pandya
Axar/Kuldeep (Prefers Axar)
Chahal
Bumrah
Bhuvi

My X1:

Rohit Sharma
K.L Rahul
Ajinkya Rahane
Prithvi Shaw
Rishab Pant
M.S. Dhoni
Sir Jadeja
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar
Jaspit Bumrah
Khaleel
M. Shami
Kuldeep Yadav

I think the Pakistan team has only one spot that probably is yet to be decided.

Fakhar, Imam, Babar, Sarfaraz, Malik, Asif, Faheem, Shadab, Hasan, Amir - Last one could be Usman, Junaid or even Nawaz.

Rohit (c)
Dhawan
KL Rahul
Pandey
Dhoni (w)
Jhadav
Pandya
Bhuvi/Khaleel
Kuldeep
Chahal/Axar
Bumrah

7 batsmen and 5.5 bowlers are minimum and keeping that in mind this is the most balanced team we can field

Since the match is in Dubai, for this type of pitch if you win the toss, should you bat first, or bat second. Also if you are to Bat first, whats a good score on this pitch thanks.

my line up
1.Fakhar
2.Imam
3.Babar
4.Malik
5.Sarfaraz
6.Asif
7.Sadab
8.Faheem
9.Amir
10.Hasan

I think the management feels there are two spots that are yet to be decided. This assumes I am correct in thinking the management mistakenly view Nawaz as a like-for-like replacement for Fahim. Which means the following spots are open:

Number 8: Faheem/Nawaz (purely to do with conditions)
Number 11: SSA/UKS/Junaid

If they wanted to play two spinners, what they should have done is played Faheem as the third seamer, and played a specialist spinner in place of USK/SSA/Junaid (all of whom bat at 11). That way you have the best of both worlds; the balance of the team is unaffected and you have a proper spinner in the side. But it seems like the management has fudged it a little bit with the approach outlined above.

If I were to be Mickey, I would have selected this playing 11 against India.

Fakhar
Babar
Haris
Malik
Sarfraz + *
Asif
Shadab
AMIR
USMAN
SHAHEEN
JUNAID

Amir and Usman to share the new ball, whereas Shaheen and Junaid, 1st and 2nd change. 4 left armers against us would be a good tactic.

The problem is HK match cannot be taken lightly! If you lose that match, then you are out of next stage! (also this match appears before Pak match!) So India perhaps won't take that match lightly and play the same XI for both the matches!

Rohit
Dhawan
Rahul
Dhoni
Rayudu
Jadhav (I would have preferred someother batsman + spinner, but nobody in squad)
Pandya
B.Kumar
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Chahal

Will use Pandey as the first substitute fielder in that hot weather, but won't like to have him in XI... Its better to ask Dhoni to compulsorily bat at No.4 till World Cup if he wants to remain in the team! Don't see his batting do any good after that...

Potential-wise India is stronger compared to Pakistan (in spite of Kohli's absence), but Pakistan may surprise India with better preparation & mental toughness. India may look tired & exhausted (ODI specialists like Rohit, Dhoni are not the kind of guys who can set the world on fire straight away!) Dhawan was unnecessarily used for the test series and his mind is not calmer now, otherwise he is the guy who usually steps up in tournaments! I guess India might win just 1 match out of 3 possible matches against Pakistan and let's hope that is FINALS!

Pakistan vs India rarely is predictable. It's been like that for decades and it ain't changing this time.

No one is favourite. Kohli's absence might matter a bit but the Indian eleven is strong and much more experienced than Pakistani side.

India has never played in UAE and it's Pakistan's home now! That is an important factor!

In UAE heat you always bat first. It's so basic.

Stop joking. Losing against HK. LoL

And Dhoni is liability. Bat him as low as possible. At 7 most probably hoping that he batting is not needed at all

Stop joking. Losing against HK. LoL

Not saying losing against them, its first match (completely different conditions from England), and we are not playing 5 or 6 league games to compensate/make up in other games, if you lose it you are potentially out (that too next match is against strong Pakistan in their home ground on very next day!) So as a matter of safety by all means India will go up with their best side to avoid any hiccups (Guess if there is NRR carried forward to next round, I am not aware of the point system in this tournament!) When they play almost best XI against associate teams in World Cup where there are many matches, I guess they will not risk in such a short one (World Cup 2007 reminder!)

You are likely to lose some wickets & bat slowly in the middle overs in UAE, so slog overs are important where you need somebody like Pandya or even Rayudu to take strike! Yes Dhoni can be completely avoided where there is a case of 190/2 in 40th over.

Who knows Dhoni may prefer such slow pitches! Pant would have struggled to time. Not supporting Dhoni's selection though!

Dhoni might actually do okay in the slog overs in UAE.

He does well in slow and low bounce conditions like Chennai.

Asia Cup 2018: India rope in Nuwan Seneviratne as left-arm throwdown coach

AT A time in world cricket, when the support staff often outnumber the actual squad of players in many dressing-rooms, the Indian team is set to include a left-arm throwdown specialist to the mix for the Asia Cup. This will be in addition to the longstanding incumbent, Raghu, who for the record is a right-armer. Sri Lankan Nuwan Seneviratne, The Indian Express has learnt, has been roped in at the request of the team management, among other things, to help the Indian batsmen combat the array of left-arm pacers in the Pakistan line-up, including the lethal Mohammad Amir and Junaid Khan.

There is talk, however, that Seneviratne might be in line for a full-fledged contract, based on the feedback the BCCI receive from the Indian think-tank following the Asia Cup, which kicks off on Saturday.

“He (Seneviratne) will be assisting the team only for the Asia Cup. His inclusion is only on a trial basis for now. The BCCI is in regular touch with the Indian team management, and the request to look for a left-arm throwdown specially had come from the team. One more reason for hiring his services was that the Pakistan team has good left-arm pacers. So he’s been brought on board in-order to provide our batsmen with adequate practice,” sources in the Indian board confirmed.

There is some talk within the board of Seneviratne being in line for a year-long contract if he can impress the team management. It’s also a move, sources reveal, that is being considered to help manage the workload of Raghu, who’s been with the team for around seven years, and has had to deal with the team’s hectic schedule both home and away. Seneviratne, 38, appeared in only two first-class games as a seaming all-rounder for Colombo Cricket Club. He has, however, been involved with Sri Lankan cricket for nearly a decade, and has even served as the senior team’s fielding coach briefly.

Rayudu and Jadhav. I don't know why are we wasting our time on these two. Are they going to play in the World Cup too?

So this guy is an expert chucker? lol

For the first time after a long time. Pressure will be on Pakistan in this match.

Usman says his fitness is fine and his toe was just bleeding a bit.

I think the same lineup will be retained.

My playing XI would be :

Rohit Sharma
Shikhar Dhawan
Ambati Rayadu
KL Rahul
Kedar Jadhav
MS Dhoni
Hardik Pandya
B Kumar
Kuldeep Yadav
Y Chahal
J Bumrah

Dead rubber. Give the following a go:

Haris Sohail
Muhammad Nawaz
Junaid Khan
Shaheen Shah Afridi

Calls (including Paks 30 finest drummers) song from last year now as Asia cup anthem.

Omg that is such a weak side. Only top two and bottom three are good :danish

In this team, except KL Rahul and Dhawan, no batsmen is good enough to stay in front of our bowlers.

Congrats Pak on match win and Asia cup win, difficult to have any other result.

Indian batting is looks weak on paper on the other hand bowling is decent. Kuldeep will be a bigger threat than any other bowler.Just need to score 260 and match will be done and dusted for India.

This is the first time, I have no confidence in this Indian team to win anything in this Asia cup. Thank god for Honk Kong in the same group as us. Pakistan will win the game comfortably on the 19th and will win the finals as well.

Sarcasm?

Can't believe a guy like Kedhar Jadav can manage to have such a prolonged international career. Surely there are better players than him in a country of 1+ billion.

He's played only 40 ODIs. Hardly a "prolonged" career.

But he's getting more chances because unlike previous eras the current Indian team doesn't have a single part time bowler in the top 5. So having Jhadav in the XI becomes important.

Plus he has done quite well. Averages 40 with the bat at a SR of 110. Already has 2 centuries. And chips in with some crucial wickets every now and then.

Real looking forward to this match, asia cup record between both teams is 6-5 in favor of India, this also includes the 2016 match which was the t20 format. Will be Hoping we can level the record with a win :)

you missed x-factor in the side Hardik Pandya. :shh

Few weeks ago Dhawan, Rohit, Pandya and Dhoni were part of senior Indian team but now after the exclusion of Kohli all these players are playing for India B team. :inti

Tickets to the highly anticipated Unimoni Asia Cup 2018 India-Pakistan match on 19 September
are officially sold-out. Gates will open an hour and a half earlier than usual at 12:00 pm to
accommodate the large numbers expected at Dubai Sports City’s Dubai International Stadium.

No tickets will be available at the venue, so fans who have not purchased tickets are being
advised not to come to the stadium.

The result of India’s Hong Kong tie on Tuesday, will decide if another India-Pakistan contest is
on the cards on 23 September.

It looks like this tournament is going to be a 250-275 runs tournament.

So that being said, I'm backing Dhoni to play a big role for India. It will be great to see if Dhoni can once again perform and win against Pakistan like he used to do all the time at the start of his career.

Sold Out?? Reallyyy??? I thought no one cares about Asia Cup:broad

Khaleel likely to make his debut vs Hong Kong tomorrow. Interesting to see how he goes.

Bowled 144-145 kmph in the IPL and has touched a peak speed of 148 kmph in a domestic one dayer. To the disappointment of many, he's been crediting the stint at Delhi Daredevils in 2016 and 2017 under Zaheer Khan for him improving as a bowler. Zaheer was almost beaming when talking about him. Hope he can start well and go on to have a good career.

Lol at IPL fans trying to make Khaleel Ahmed their own product. He isn't an IPL product. He represented India in Under 19 World Cup. Had a very good domestic season.

Some of you fans try so hard to make your IPL relevant and act as if there was no cricket before it came into existence. Another delusion of these fans is ex players started helping young indian cricketers only through IPL. :misbah

I am both shocked and speechless to know that all tickets have been sold. May be all those tickets were bought by Pakistani fans? :inti

:)))

Its the silence of lambs on here from resident indian posters though. If the match goes bad for Pakistan, i expect a massive influx.

You'll be even more shocked to learn that the 2016 Asia Cup had more television viewers in India than the IPL in the same year. But of course, no-one cares about it...:inti

Quite astonishing to see the Indian fans and even the media, pundits, etc are already making excuses galore, I think it would be best if we lose the first game (as then India can then have their very own "fluke") and then beat India in the remaining two encounters as we tend to perform better when we come back from behind and don't have the pressure of the favorites tag.
