South Africa (Playing XI): Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis(c), Quinton de Kock(w), Vernon Philander, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, Lungisani Ngidi

There is no point for having Ashwin on this pitch, other than to lower the over rate. Bring in Bhuvan...

India need to bolster the batting, so take out Bumrah and get Rahane In.

South Africa might take out Maharaj and go for Andile...They can field any damn XI and win the game comfortably...=D

I hope Indians give some fight in this game.
 
I'm getting a feeling that Rahane will replace Pujara at No.3 today, knowing Kohli and Shastri's selection protocol.

Pujara hasnt done anything on this tour to guarantee a spot in playing XI. Indian fans are having a go at R Sharma for failing but none criticising the HTB Pujara who have failed almost every single time he played away from Asia despite playing in county. He should nowhere near be Indian side after his tailenderish record in seaming conditions.

Pujara is still miles better. Never in his life has Rohit played overseas innings like Pujara's 153 and his two highly important innings at Lords 2014 on the greenest track of the series. The fact that he has been publicly chided by Shastri and Kohli in the past for his supposed lack of "intent" is obviously weighing heavily on his mind as evidenced by the two run outs in the last game. Not saying that he definitely would have done much better but still it's absolutely no pleasure in knowing that the captain and coach are vehemently against your brand of cricket and hoping to kick you out as soon as they get the chance like it happened in 2015.

Obviously he hasn't been successful overseas but still comparing him with Sharma as a Test batsman is a huge insult to Test batsmanship in itself. Sharma is a joke and has been embarrassed by good teams both home and away while inflating his home averages against SL and WI. There is zero reason for this guy to be anyway near the Test team.

Im not in anyway defending Sharma, if anything im suggesting Sharma experiment to be stopped. However, im also suggesting that Pujara should stop getting a free ride. His inning in Lords 2 years ago doesn’t justify his mediocrity in SA. Every player including captain himself needs to perform in order to guarantee a spot in playing XI.

For upcoming England tour in summer, Pujara and R Sharma should go and need to blood in some young players. Rahane should bat #3 for India in England and K Nair or Pant should come in for lower order.

Apart from Pujara and Sharma, i think its high time we also get rid off W Saha. He is basically tailender who can’t hold a bat to save his life. We really need to move ahead with Sahas, P Patels, and DK.

Don't worry, Pujara is the last person to be getting a free ride in the Shastri-Kohli regime. Your wish might very well be fulfilled today itself.

Tbh my interest for ongoing series is long over. Im already looking forward to IPL and English series. So, we got few months to get the act together and form a balance team for overseas series. Likes of Pujara, Saha, R Sharma, and S Dhawan need to go. They all dont have the technique to survive in seaming conditions.

Every team is HTB these days. Tell me which team can compete against red hot Indians in India? Even injury hit India was too good for Aussies.

Well to be fair that injury was a blessing in disguise. We got rid of a batsman in tailenderish form in that series with mediocre captaincy to boot, got a captain who did much better captaincy on the greenest track of the series no less and the replacement made important contributions with the ball.

I wasn’t refering to Kohli’s injury, rather I was commenting on our leading spinners getting bruned out due to long season. Yes, Kohli’s injury was indeed blessing as he was struggling with form. Plus Rahane was pretty agressive in his own way with captaincy. Sad, Rahane sucks on spinning pitches or else he should be the one leading India in test.
 
People like "nice" guys. That's why everyone is against Rohit and in favour of Pujara, who has got way more chances than the former, still can't buy a run outside Asia. Ishant Sharma can do what Pujara is currently doing at 3 - block/leave about 50 balls. These excuses of Pujara being put gun onto his head are ridiculous. These "intent" talks of Kohli and Shastri didn't affect him during our long long home season.; was scoring hundreds for fun. It started affecting him mentally only after he stepped his foot out of Asia. Who are you fooling?

Anyway, I don't want Rohit in tests either. Dropping Rahane for him was horrendous and Kohli's captaincy and selections have been pathetic. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy.
 
Dead rubber. If I was a caption I would have made Rahul keep and play him 6 down, drop parthiv. Bring back Dhawan. Vijay , Dhawan , Pujara , Kohli , Rahane , Rahul , Pandya , Ashwin/jadeja and 3 quicks.
 
First of all there is rain forecast for the next 5 days, therefore I can not see any day where full 90 overs will be bowled. So only 2 possibilities are remaining 1) A Draw 2) Proteas Win.
There are rumours that South Africa will probably go for full pace attack, meaning 5 fast bowlers. Toss will be of vital importance here cuz chasing 150 on this pitch batting last will be nothing short of a nightmare.
I again have a feeling that both teams will struggle to score big totals and therefore once again AB De Viliiers innings might turn out to be the difference in this match.
As for Indians, it does not make any difference whether Rahane plays or Rohit Sharma. These 5 Proteas bowlers will not show any mercy on juicy Green cracked pitch.
And Proteas have the best Green Track Bully in their Arsenal, his name Vernon Philander.
 
We lost 4 consecutive tosses in India. Hopefully we win this one as well and insert them to bat. Only fair considering what happened to us over there, to get ambushed like that. India pretty much knew what they were coming to after that debacle, only fair to return the favour. We can be mean too you know.

We've always provided Sachin Tendulkar tracks, we don't get to do that anymore. Old habits die hard though, we gift wrapped them Indian conditions in Centurion to pad their stats. They couldn't utilise them.
 
You know what Faf du plessis should do ? He should voluntarily Tell match referee and kohli that Proteas give you the toss, you should decide whether u want to bat first or bowl.
This way Indian team will not have any further excuse to make once it is 3-0

To be fair South Africa have invited Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the summer. They have an opportunity to do what India do to boost their rankings i.e. demolish SENA nations. They should cancel Australia's visit and the away tour to Lanka and head to the West Indies instead. Only then can they become the 'true' #1 side like India.

If Home team also struggles and collapses for under 200, then it should be deemed as a bad pitch.
Home team should be able to score over 300 while visitors should be bundled out for under 200. That is how a good Home pitch should offer.
If both struggle, then it should be a poor pitch. The same logic that was applied for Indian pitches for the SA tour of India must also apply here.

Once Pakistan was bowled out for 99 in 1st Innings in UAE against England in 2012. Pakistan ended up winning the test match and England also gave a good fight, scoring 250 odd in 4th Innings. That was not a bad pitch at all.

Your theory lacks substance.

Whitewashing teams languishing at 6 or 7 doesnt get your team enough rating points to become no 1.
 
The fact that India lost the first two matches batting second made Kohli decide to bat first now. The conditions suit the bowlers first up and Faf wanted to bowl first for that reason. India was in a lose-lose situation at the toss itself.

India would have batted first in other two tests as well as kohli said at toss that time.
Second match was much like bat first and win the match sorf of...it was near to impossible to bat in 4th innings.

Ideally, we should been bowling first on this green mamba after winning the toss, just as any other team. It's us failing to score even 150 in the final innings of both tests forced us to bat first. Let's see how our batters go.
 
Rahane replaces Rohit and Bhuvneshwar comes in for Ashwin.

Good decisions. Bhuvi is a better batsman than ROhit on this pitch anyways... =)

I think Rahane can overcome his problems with spin if he bats up the order at No.3 as you said. Pujara can be in the team as opener if he has problems overseas and even problems at home (poor SR)
 
These are absolute overcast conditions. Excellent for bowling.

If India doesn't bat well, they might get all out under 100. Why the hell did they decided to bat first?
 
KL Rahul looker ordinary against seam movement. I hope its not a norm for him.
 
Tailor-made conditions for Vernon Philander to take a fi-fer.
 
This is the first time I am watching this series. Looks like a case of match officials and stadium employees outnumbering spectators in a test match.

I cant believe it. Even the most dumbest of people would know what to do after picking 5 pacers. My guess is they are simply over thinking and trying to be "courageous" like Shastri puts it.

morne morkel should not be given the new bal..he usually wastes it. should be given to rabada as he is skiddy and makes the batsmen play

Now they are expecting miracle from Rahane who is expected to come in next 30 minutes! Actually they will have excuses for selection debacle, after all this was honeymoon tour!
 
This tour is an indication of how stupid one can become through arrogance & over-confidence as a leader! It is just repeating mistakes after mistakes in everything... Now all key seam bowlers will be worn out before the LOIs
