India Women (298/7) clinch their maiden ODI World Cup title defeating South Africa Women (246) by 52 runs

Indian women cricket team created record as they become 2nd team in history of cricket to win world cup as a Host country. India's men cricket team was the 1st host to win WC 2011

SA didn't have their best team because of the quota system, which is sad.

What best team ? Anneke Bosch and Dercksen are white and they were absolute crap in the World Cup, along with Jafta

You can have so many non performers in a Top 7 and win an ODI World Cup.

SA are just not a great batting nation, both men and women.

There's a reason why the Aussies have won so many ODI World Cups - they have a ridiculously Top 7 with each of them contributing at some stage.

Saffers have never managed that in their history.

Quotas have their issues but this goes deeper than that

So many of female friends have put up stories for the World Cup win today. Many of them generally don’t do it for men’s cricket matches. Shows you the immense impact of this match on women in India. Truly a pivotal moment.

He needs to see a therapist. I suspect he's having some problems at home and taking all that frustration out on me.

Spare me, @Sachin fan. Go grab a cup of coffee and relax :therethere
Doesnt absolve you of the nasty comment you made about South African colored people who have fought for centuries for this quota you were criticising..
Before this quota they never even reached finals..
Remember they got Rabada and WTC because of quota system

Guys this is a positive cricket thread, all other issues we have multiple TP threads!

Happy for Harmanpreet, hopefully she retires now and doesn’t overstay lole Mithali
Your compatriots just cant help themselves…

Old habits and all that..

Congrats on the victory..

At least your reaching the finals…

Pakistan is going backwards…
We didn’t even make it to KO in 2022 after reaching finals in 2017, but finally had a proper team this time, our Mom for finals is 21 yr old, everything has to be balanced to win, takes time , South Asian women cannot be Aussies in just 2 decades.

Why not? Do only Indians have the copyrights to take shots at the Indian team?

I can sleep easy at night knowing Pakistan is a crap team. I don't have nightmares about my team losing a final infront of 90,000 home fans after they dominated the tournament like no team has ever dominated it before.

Now buzz off, and stop derailing the thread. This thread is about Indian Women winning the World Cup at home, not Indian men suffering a generational trauma at home.
Aus 03 and aus 07 were as dominant.

And ind has won a home wc.

It is pakistan who had twin nightmares in 87 and 96 in all their home wcs.

Your trajectory is right and thats all that matters. Without proper systems in place and checks/balances, its a pipe dream..

India beat South Africa by 52 runs to win the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 final at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, claiming their first-ever World Cup crown.

Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma starred with both bat and ball to help India secure a tense win after South Africa had won the toss and elected to bowl.

Chasing 299, South Africa looked in contention at one stage but Deepti Sharma’s breakthrough sparked a dramatic collapse. After she dismissed Annerie Dercksen, the Proteas crumbled from 209/5 to 246 all out. Despite Nadine de Klerk's late fight, South Africa couldn't recover from the collapse.

Captain Laura Wolvaardt (101) led from the front with a magnificent century but lacked support as wickets fell regularly at the other end. Deepti was the standout performer with the ball, finishing with superb figures of 5/39 while Shafali Verma and Sree Charani chipped in with key wickets to seal a historic win for India.

Deepti Sharma had turned the tide for India with a brilliant spell that yielded three crucial wickets, including that of South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt, who had kept her side in the hunt with a superb century.

But Deepti’s double strike in a single over that included Wolvaardt and Chloe Tryon came at a decisive stage, just as the required run rate began to climb, leaving South Africa under mounting pressure.

Earlier, Wolvaardt and Annerie Dercksen had offered resistance with a fifty-run stand, steering the Proteas past the 200-run mark after a collapse had left them reeling at 148/5. Deepti had earlier triggered that slide by dismissing Sinalo Jafta, following up on Shafali Verma’s impactful spell where she claimed two wickets in as many overs.

Verma had shifted the momentum India’s way by striking twice in quick succession, first removing Sune Luus in her opening over then claiming the prized wicket of Marizanne Kapp. That double blow tightened India’s grip on the contest before Jafta’s dismissal deepened South Africa’s troubles.

India’s first breakthrough came through sharp fielding when Tazmin Brits was run out by a direct hit from Amanjot Kaur at the non-striker’s end. Brits and Wolvaardt had given South Africa a solid foundation with a fifty-run opening stand in the powerplay, putting the pressure on India’s bowlers early in the chase.

Sree Charani then struck in her first over to trap Anneke Bosch LBW. Despite the quick wickets, Wolvaardt continued to anchor the innings, bringing up her 39th ODI fifty and guiding South Africa past 100 alongside Sune Luus.

Sensing the need for a breakthrough, captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s decision to bring Verma into the attack proved inspired. The opener’s twin strikes turned the momentum in India’s favour, setting the stage for Deepti Sharma’s match-defining spell that ultimately put India in control.

In the first innings, India put up 298/7 against South Africa, posting the second-highest score in a Women's ODI World Cup final. After a commanding 100-run opening stand, India were well placed at 223/3 but South Africa fought back to keep them below the 300 mark.

Shafali Verma (87) led the way with a fine knock while Deepti Sharma (58) steadied the innings towards the end. Richa Ghosh (34) added a lively cameo that gave India late momentum.

For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka (3/58) was the standout performer with the ball while Nonkululeko Mlaba, Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon picked up a wicket each.

Having lost the toss, India got India off to a brisk start with Shafali Verma and Smirit Mandhana putting up a 100-run partnership for the first wicket.

Mandhana (45), who looked in fluent touch, fell just short of her half-century but Verma kept the innings steady. She had a stroke of luck when Anneke Bosch dropped her on 55, a miss that proved costly as Verma went on to score a crucial knock that anchored India’s innings.

But South Africa found a way back into the game as Khaka struck twice in quick succession, removing two set batters in Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues to put India in a brief spot of bother. Every time India tried to build a partnership, the Proteas found a way to break it.

However, Deepti Sharma held the innings together from one end and her composure allowed India to recover after the middle-order wobble, even as wickets continued to fall around her. Toward the end, Richa Ghosh provided the late spark India were hoping for, finding boundaries and pushing the total closer to 300.

However, just when India seemed set for a big finish, Ghosh fell in the penultimate over and Nadine de Klerk delivered a brilliant final over, conceding only six runs and denying India a late flourish. Only 12 runs came off the last two overs, leaving India slightly short of what looked possible at one stage.

Remember when the BCCI president said this. I wonder what he thinks now of this team's achievement.

For all the flak Jay Shah gets, he is the best thing that happened to Women’s cricket. In contrast to that misogynist Srinivasan, he pushed for parity in salaries for women cricketers and started WPL. Credit where it is due.

This thread has turned into a weird cesspool of blue on blue (pun intended) and the usual bunch of Pak v Ind nonsense. Another thread where certain individuals shoehorn Pakistan in eventhough Pakistan has nothing to do with it. Color me surprised.

But amidst this garbage discourse it's important to stress what an incredible achievement this is by the Indian Women's team. They were not the best team in the group stage and had their fair share of hiccups. But they stepped up when it mattered most and proved themselves to be a champion team by winning the World Cup. That's what being a great team is all about. Winning those big matches and trophies is what etches your name in history.

The impact of this World Cup win will be massive. Girls all over India will be inspired to take up the sport professionally. Kaur, Madhana, Rodrigues will all have their own legion of female fans. And as fans of this sport that is something that you make us all happy.
The Indian women's team and the 2017 Champions Trophy-winning Pakistani team have some similarities. Both teams were not as good in the league stages, but played like champions in the semi-finals and final.

Also as I am writing this, news filtering in that BCCI will match the 125 crores prize money to Women’s team (approx USD 15 million) - the same prize the men’s team got after the Men’s T20 WC win. Way to go in setting up a gender pay parity.

I’m all for equality but personally this is not equality because they don’t bring in the same money to BCCI.

They definitely deserve a lot but matching Men’s team where the money is audience based isn’t right way.

They should instead trickle it down to colleges and school for women's cricket.

As I see it, they all represent India and there should be parity in treatment. Not everything is about commercial aspects, if BCCI is serious about encouraging female participation and viewership they need to assure parity in salaries and prize money. Imbalance in salaries is not a good look in any country.

I agree with you.

It should be proportional to how much money they generate. Otherwise, it becomes freeloading. :inti

I would never take a Pakistani or Bangladeshi opinion on Women’s cricket seriously. It’s absolutely not freeloading when the whole country is cheering for you and the team just won a WC. If anything, I bet that WPL viewership and sponsorship will only grow from here. BCCI has pledged parity between genders and they have to put their money where their mouth is.

This was the only way the Indian womens team could have won a world cup if they hosted the tourney BCCI and ICC got the result they wanted in the end, was hoping south africa could have won after the horrible incident that happened with the Aussies women team.

BD cricket in itself is freeloading..making advantage of their full membership which in it self was an act of charity from the days when BCCI and PCB acted in sync

Pakistan women played all their matches in the same ground and won zero matches lololol

Here start the stani Pak kaaaanspiracies.... Keep them coming boyssss:inzi
Let us actually see If Indias womens team can win a world tourney (t20 or odi). The answer is no, it was only on these type of pitches that India has a chance to win.

Good point.

Sluggish surface assisted them.

I don't think this Indian women's team can win a World Cup outside of Asia. :inti

Think with a different perspective and widen your vision! Sometimes it’s not about just business and profits. Landmark occasions often result in watershed events and the first ever World Cup win by the Indian women is one such occasion. Becoming a world cup winner is a big deal, and for a developing country like ours it is even bigger.

BCCI did absolutely the right thing. The impact of this will be more visible in the future. What BCCI has done with this action is to tell aspiring sports girls and their parents that professional cricket is a viable career option for them. This win will create heroes and inspire the future generations of women players. This event will further see BCCI put more money in women’s support, development, and training facilities. More money will be allocated to women’s cricket now. All World Cup wins are special, but the first ones are especially momentous. This one is too.

Congratulations to Indian Women's team and South Asian Women in general

Most of the SENA countries had a head start over them (over decades)

SRI Lanka men team won the WC after only 16 years of test cricket status

I am not sure when India seriously started to invest in women cricket. Can't be more than 2 decades

A huge achievement by Indian woman!

What a weird statement and even funnier my response to it was deleted...

ROFL salty loser

Certain Pakistanis and Stani Paks and their weird outlandish Kaaanspiracies every time India wins

Can only win at home
Can only win when don't travel
Can only win with rigged feeds
Can only win when RizBar ain't playing
Can only win coz BCCI rigged it

What a salty bunch of losers

It is not a weird statement, India had home advantage and won in conditions best suited to them....good job...not lets see if Indian Womens team can win in conditions that do not suit them

Not salty just stating the fact if certains Nishs cannot see it than that is not our problem. Just spitting facts son.

The problem is ground level issues, just to give a reality from 15 years ago, my senior played basketball and state cricket because lack of women players is huge, what helps is sports scholarships for women in fields where BCCI can help a lot.. right now they should definitely give them a lot of money but it doesn’t seem proportional to what they bring and lack of girls playing sports/cricket at lower level needs to be corrected where funding helps.

@charlie007

If it was England playing today instead of South Africa, I think England should've won.

Choker South Africa couldn't handle the pressure. South African ladies are bigger chokers than their men's team. :inti

It was a shame SA knocked out England.

Shefali Varma's story is straight out of a movie script. Someone who was playing some small time T20 leagues when these girls were playing World Cup was brought in as a replacement. She won the player of the match.
Bollywood would have already started penning the script on this world cup win..soon we will see a movie on this..

RSA did not choke. They got blown away by IND. They also decided to chase in a Final lol.

Anyway, now that the WC is over, can someone make a meme of all the terrible running between the wickets, misfields, dropped chances, ground fielding to stop the boundaries :kp

You know, you could make a similar video from the men's World Cup too.

Yesterday team India beat South Africa by 51 runs to win the world cup... there are some similarities observed between this WC final and 2024 T20 Men's WC final....

1) Both finals were played between India and South Africa

2) In Both finals India batted first and SA 2nd

3) In 2024 final, SA were cruising towards victory when SKY takes incredible catch of Miller which tilted match towards India. In this Final too, SA were cruising towards victory when AB Kaur incredible catch of Wolvaardt which turned the match in India's favor.

4) 2024 T20 World Cup was lifted by Captain Rohit Sharma who was also the Captain of Mumbai Indians. In this time also 2025 Women's World Cup is lifted by Captain Harmanpreet Kaur who is also Captain of Mumbai Indians

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia announces ₹51 Crore cash reward for the Indian Women's cricket team after it won the ICC Women's World Cup

I think bcci gave 131 crores to India men's team. They should have given atleast half to encourage younger players.

51 crores is OK for them, they need to focus on their fitness and fielding improvement. this difference is clearly visible when they played against teams like Aus,Eng,SA and NZ.

So glad this wc was promoted so well and India clinched it, remarkable stories all around , celebrations across cities, motivating young girls, their parents, amazing.

Bollywood would have already started penning the script on this world cup win..soon we will see a movie on this..
‘Harman’ will be the movie name. First women’s WC winning captain. Kapil and Dhoni got one, pretty sure Harman is next at some point.

I didn't realise Harman made her international debut way back in 2009. It's been a hard grind for her and a well deserved win this after a decade. She'll probably retire afte t20 WC next year.

Compare this to the lack of progress Pakistani female cricketers make, they get worse every year they play.

you can’t single out the women, many Pak mens players regress as well its probably PCB in that case

I expect WPL valuation to go up as a result. However, Womens Cricket will be relevant only for ODI WC or T20 WC. In the T20 version, I dont see how our desi women can match the power hitting of SENA ladies as well as fitness level.

Let's not club all Asian women's teams together in T20 cricket.

Bangladesh clearly can't considering they are ranked 10th in the format.

India is not too far away as they are ranked #3 in T20 cricket.

In the 9 or 10 T20 WC events hosted, IND has 0 titles in that format. All of them were dominated and won by Aus, even though looks like even WI-W have a title as well.

The fitness and strength is increasing among women exponentially, young women in India are channelling themselves with fitness and sports and will reach there.

On general SENA, I doubt many MEN players in South Asia today reach the same levels as SENA or WI

Indian women didn’t even have proper sponsorship until 20 years ago, BCCI took over 20 years ago
Heck has BD won an ICC tournament after becoming a member?

Men still have historical achievements under their belt and even now do win here and there. These Pakistani female cricketers have nothing to talk about despite playing international cricket for 10-15 years and enjoying an increase in financial and non-financial support benefits from the PCB since Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan's time. These women need to win and perform first, sponsorship, support, backing from stake holders will then follow, they cannot cry about lack of support, backing, fandom when all they do is keep on losing.

Maybe they need a breakthrough knock from one of their batsmen. The turning point, as far Indian cricket is concerned, was this game in 2017 where Harman's wild 171 knocked out the mighty Aussies in 2017 world cup semi. That was when most Indians really started paying attention to women's cricket, including me. It took another 8 years for the women to finally lift the trophy.

This has been all over social media today. What a journey this man has made!

The next man in after Sachin and Kambli, A leading run scorer in Ranji but never got a cap, and then finally achieved success on the international level by coaching the Women Cricketers to victory.

He has given great service to Indian cricket.

Its much better on the mens side. For example, Kohli has insane level of fitness which is why he was competitive even in his "old" age.

I can see that at least 3 players from Ind-W side is totally/somewhat out of shape but they are good I guess: Shefali V, Richa G, Deepti S.

I could also see that our Football Women team has way better fitness level compared to our Cricket team. Some of our Cricket-W players are also totally out of shape as well.

Definitely need better administration and accountability from the PCB administrators and a complete curb down on player power. New blood is needed in the women's team.

Renuka , Jemima and Harman too in terms of athleticism... and Indian women Badminton , hockey and squash players are insanely athletic as well, so overall lot of improvement and exponentially it will increase.

Since 2009 or something is when live coverage started for Womens cricket, it has insanely improved since then, finance and sponsorship is required.
