NEW DELHI: An Indian Air Force's MiG-21 “Bison” crashed Friday near Nal in Rajasthan. The pilot ejected and is reportedly safe.
A Court of Inquiry will be set up to investigate the cause of the accident. Further details are awaited.

The unfortunate incident comes after a crash of an Indian Air Force Mi-17 V5 helicopter near Srinagar on February 27, resulting in deaths of all six airmen onboard and a citizen on ground.

Slew of crashes

On February 1, 2019, a Mirage 2000 jet crashed at HAL airport, Bengaluru., resulting in the death of two IAF pilots.

A MiG 27 crashed near Jodhpur's Banad area on September 4, 2018.

On June 5, 2018, Air Commodore Sanjay Chauhan passed away after his Jaguar fighter plane went down in the Mundra taluk of the Kutch region in northwestern Gujarat. This was the second alarming incident in the month of June 2018 with an Indian Air Force Jaguar.

A Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jet has crashed near Nashik in Maharashtra on June 27, 2018.
On June 8, 2018, Indian Air Force's 'Jaguar' developed a snag while landing and had a minor accident. The pilot was on a routine training mission from the Jamnagar Air Force base.

Before these two successive Jaguar crashes, an IAF Cheetah helicopter crash landed at Natha Top in Jammu and Kashmir on May 23. The helicopter, too, was on a routine sortie and a court of inquiry was ordered.
On March 20 this year, an Advanced Hawk Jet (AJT) trainer, crashed on the Subarnarekha River bed along Jharkhand and Odisha's border.

Coincidence? I think not.

Probably somebody shot it down.

If it was the other way round, I guarantee you Indians would be claiming it was shot down.

Mess with the best....

Lol the Mig21 does not need to be shot to crash. PAF could have saved some bullets tbh

Now every internal flight by IAF is under the scanner

We hear that MIG21s are old and tired, but there must be something wrong with the pilots as well no?

This happened every now and then even before this whole debacle. Was PAF still shooting down planes then?

You wish....

This is the 4th crash of IAF in the last 6 months. LOL at being #7 Airforce in the world. When my uncles were in the service, IAF and Navy, especially IAF had the highest regards; even till late 90s IAF had the highest standards. I guess you can't stop a 3rd world corrupted nation from ruining everything :livid:

Does anybody else think indian armed forces are there for the taking? On paper they have much larger numbers, but most of their equipment is vintage.
or is this part of their grand master plan to lure pakistan into thinking that?

Perhaps the work of the top secret ISI pigeon spy.

Is anyone keeping the count what is with IAF these days? Three planes one helicopter are already down, and their building caught fire.

Lol this time it was that F16 which was invincible who shot down

Indian Air Force pilot can’t even watch out for a bird LOL. No wonder Pakistan let Abhi go back so soon.

Are cab drivers flying these planes or what?

There can only be 3 possibilities :

1) Somebody shot it down.

2) It fell down due to technical fault.

3) IAF deliberately crashed it. (There can be many reasons for it).

Paf aren't claiming it. So that's not thr option that's correct

it seems pilotsof the IAF have heard about pakistan's hospitality and world famous chai, and are eagerly practicing crash landings, so that they too can get a taste.

Birds strikes are major issue. And happen all too often. Very hard to recover once a good size bird has been ingested in the engine.
We have bird strike incidents too esp. at PAF Masroor in KHI. with growing population leaving garbage around, it is not too uncommon to see a swarm of buzzards and kites around.

A PAF F-16 was lost to a "Boar Strike" in 1987 at Sargodha :P
Plane was about to take off, when a wild boar ran across the runaway from the adjacent forest and got ingested in the air intake blowing up the engine. Both pilots did a 0-0 ejection and the plane had a full payload of Paveway Laser Guided bombs.

Indian jets are crashing all over the place it seems. They must have rather awful pilots.

IAF pilots decided to get rid of MIGs this way apparently. I keep reading they are death machines.

lol MIG 21 Bison,,, flying coffins... Dracula could use a coffin like this to travel through the day to avoid sunlight and if it crashes he wont be die provided he gets under a tree to get away from sunlight...
