Press Release
No PR403/2016-ISPR Dated: November 9, 2016
Rawalpindi - November 9, 2016: Indian troops resorted to Unprovoked heavy artillery shelling in shahkot and Jura sectors in Neelum Valley at LOC this evening. This is the first use of Artillery by the Indians during current phase of escalation. Indian troops also resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling in Kel sector . Pakistani troops are responding to Indians by targeting their defence posts. No loss reported so far. Civilians being specifically targeted. Exchange of firing continues.

Also reports coming that Pakistani Artillery which was on stand by mode near the LOC areas is being moved closer to the LOC..

Things escalating massively at the border .

Mind you that the Artillery has never been used at the LOC by any side before during the ceasefire violations and the maximum caliber weapon used is 120mm Mortar till today..

On this account this has been a massive escalation by the Indians .

Would be interesting to see what the Pakistani response to this would be..

I read a few days ago Pakistanis have been using artillery as well.

Also, according to Indian express around 4500 Indians have been killed by firing on LOC since 2001. Maybe any Indians can shed some light on whether this is true or not? street cricketer

Republicans have been bigger ally to pakistan than phony democrates, But this Trump is not from establishment so let see he favors India.

Need to move a squadron of fighters closer to LOC. Then we will see how quickly these artillery get silenced.

Over 4,500 soldiers killed along LoC in Pak firing since 2001: Army

Army's response to RTI filed by Pankaj Darve revealed that post Kargil conflict, as many as 4,675 soldiers have lost their lives along the LoC in ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

More than 4,500 soldiers have lost their lives in ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu & Kashmir since 2001, the Army said in reply to an application filed under RTI. The reply to the RTI application, filed on September 22, is dated October 26 and signed by CPIO of the Army, based on the query of Vadodara-based activist Pankaj Darve.
It revealed that post Kargil conflict, as many as 4,675 soldiers have lost their lives along the LoC in ceasefire violations by Pakistan. The RTI reply does not reveal the number of instances of ceasefire violations reported in the last 15 years.
It also stated that as many as 1,174 army personnel have been killed in instances of terror attacks like the one in Pathankot in January this year. According to the official figures, as many as 7,908 terror instances have occurred since 2001.
Darve said, “Ever since the Uri terror attack in September, there has been much noise around the ongoing ceasefire violations. I filed the RTI to understand what the armed forces have faced in the last few years since Kargil (conflict). The figures are shocking and indicate that we lose our jawans more frequently in ceasefire violations than we are told. I plan to write to the government to make all these instances known to the people.”

He added that the figures did not include casualties suffered by the Army in natural accidents due to treacherous terrain in various parts along the LoC, especially Siachen.

No.. this is the first case of use of Artillery from either side at the LOC, since the Kargil war.

Before that only small arms and Mortars were used .. But since India has crossed the line by using the Artillery today, Im sure Pakistan would react to that in equal caliber .

The situation is very similar to kargil, The armed men on Pakistan side are not part of security forces. They are targeting hindu/Sikh majority villages in jammu. Pakistan media rarely reports news about dead/injured security personnels.

We're giving back as good as we are taking. Two Indian soldiers were killed a few days back according to NDTV. Not saying it's a good thing but there are always two sides two a story. If one fires then the other will do the same. Both sides are using the same weapons.

The martyrs from last night.

Have no idea buddy. Have no interest in ceasefire violations which have been happening from both sides since eternity.
