Indian cricket fans targetting another minority player, Arshdeep Singh

You're so delusional its not even funny.

To be fair, indian govt is saying this can cause issues in their country...

Im thinking of making a wiki account and start editting their articles if a simple edit can cause a big issue in such a vulnerable country.

Think about it, usa being under threat from a wikipedia edit :))

It is literally one of the most absurd thing I have ever heard someone say seriously. In a world where technology has made all kinds of complex cyber-crimes possible, this is what the Indian government is scared of: someone editing a Wikipedia page :ma

Most of the accounts were from pakistan. Similar things happened during Shami incident.

Already the officials of Wikipedia have been summoned by ministeries to explain how Arshdeep's Wikipedia got changed.

The twitter officials may next.

Good. I hope this time Govt takes this issue seriously and take this matter towards completion. Let's be honest, we all have a hunch and fair idea who threatened Shami back then and who is behind Arshdeep now. Isn't it very obvious that this only happens when we play against Pakistan and most importantly when we lose? Avesh Khan conceded how many runs in last game against Hongkong? Any such hatred towards him regarding his religion?

From very reputed journalists/media houses its being reported that Arshdeep's Wikipedia page was edited by agencies in relation to Pakistan. Also, all the tweets made with the same hashtag in first 3 hours of the drop catch has been analysed. It was identified that 30% of them were from Pakistan, 22% from India and 20% from USA. I am only mentioning the tweets where hashtags #Arshdeep & #Khalistan been used (both used together). I am not talking about generic tweets criticizing his drop catch which was a normal reaction. All these generic tweets were used only with #Arshdeep

Also, hearing Zoobear (Alt News) and Sikhs for Justice (Canada) was working in tandem. A FIR has been filed to look into this. These are the same people who send template to Rihanna & Greta Thurnberg during farmer's protest.

This template idea of targeting minority players was taken from Euro 2020 finals when Italy beat Germany. They adopted the same in WT20 2021 game and now. I seriously hope our govt investigates this time and don't let it pass easily. If we continue to ignore, every time we play Pakistan there will be attacks of our players like Shami & Arshdeep. I am very sure Avesh Khan was on target in 1st game against them but since India won, it didn't materialize.

Oh btw, before people jumps on me, I am not blaming Pakistani's here. All I am asking is for fair investigation. We can't let our country be defamed every time due to a cricket match. If investigations prove it is Indian's/Bhakts who are involved in targeting Avesh, jail all of them. But if it belongs to handles from Pakistan, BCCI must stop all cricket ties with them till this menace stops. Also, if it is proven that people like Zoobear were actually involved, hope our liberal brothers won't cry about intolerance if they are sent to jail for good.

Countries reputation is utmost priority, for anyone and everyone.

India's unbeaten start in the 2022 Asia Cup came to an end on Sunday (September 4) as they lost their opening game of the Super 4 stage by a margin of 5-wickets in a last-over thriller which arch-rivals Pakistan won with just one ball to spare.
While the two teams played an intense game of cricket, it was small margins that made the difference in the end. For India, it was a dropped catch from Arshdeep Singh off Asif Ali in the 18th over of the innings from the bowling of Ravi Bishnoi that made a huge difference.

Following the match, Arshdeep has been victim of some vicious trolling and abuse on social media for the dropped effort. Many Indian cricketers including senior batter and ex-skipper Virat Kohli have come out in strong support of the left-arm pacer. Veteran Indian pacer Mohammad Shami has become the latest to show solidarity with Arshdeep.

In an exclusive interview with Times Now, Shami stated that trolls are not seen when the team performs well and claimed it is easy to send such messages from fake accounts. "They only live to troll us, have no other job. When we perform well they don’t say you took a good catch but will troll us?" said Shami. "Agar dam hai toh real accounts se aaye na, fake account se toh koi bhi msg kar sakta hai (If you have the audacity, then comes from real accounts; anyone can message from fake accounts,)” he added.

Shami went on to say that he has also experienced trolling in the past but his country has always stood up for him. He also backed Arshdeep to shine in the future. "I’ve faced this and it doesn’t affect me because my country stands up for me. I’ll only say to Arshdeep , don’t let this hamper you because your talent is immense," Shami stated. He also put an Instagram story in Arshdeep's support.

Shami was subject to social media abuse in the aftermath of India's 10-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup last year. At the time a lot of prominent cricketers had come out in strong support of the Indian pacer. Arshdeep and Shami were teammates at Punjab Kings from 2019 to 2021.

Its very hard to stop vermin like this who hide behind keyboards and computer screens. The social media companies allow free rein for this sort of stuff and wash their hands out of any responsibility.

I think most people are mature enough and seen this stuff for so long that its just best to ignore it. Yes acknowledge it happened but don't give it the coverage it does not merit. Ignoring trolls is the best way to handle this and sooner or later they will go away.

Some of the Indian fans in here are seriously blaming Pakistanis for the horrendous online trolling and abuse towards Arshdeep ? Like seriously ?

It was obviously right wing BJP aligned Indian lunatics that were showing their venom against Arshdeep because he’s a minority and it makes him an easy scape goat and target.
I’m sure the majority of Indian fans are decent and didn’t indulge in this but there is a sizeable chunk of hard right wing Indian nationalists partially those aligned with the BJP movement who have no limit to the vitoral they will spout to anyone getting in their way or make a target of because these losers have notbing better to do.

Arshdeep could not hold onto a relatively easy catch of Pakistan batsman Asif Ali in the 18th over
Several Punjab leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, who is a former cricketer, on September 5 came out in support of fast bowler Arshdeep Singh who was brutally trolled on social media for dropping a catch in an India-Pakistan match in Dubai.

Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer spoke to Arshdeep's mother Baljit Kaur over the phone and told her Punjab and the whole country were with him.

"Victory or defeat is given in game. arshdeepsinghh is upcoming star who carved out niche in short span. Performed excellent against Pakistan. Regressive psyche to troll him on drop of just a catch. Arshdeep is future of Nation. Inspiration for youth. Hate has no place in sports," Mr. Hayer said in a tweet.

Pakistan won the Super 4 Asia Cup encounter on Sunday by five wickets. Arshdeep could not hold onto a relatively easy catch of Pakistan batsman Asif Ali in the 18th over.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha, former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, State Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and BJP leader Manjinder Sirsa issued a statement backing the 23-year-old fast bowler.

A social media campaign #IStandWithArshdeep also started on Twitter in support of the left-armer.

Ex-cricketer and Aam Aadmi Party MP Harbhajan Singh slammed those saying "cheap things" about Arshdeep.

"Stop criticising young arshdeepsinghh," he tweeted.

"No one drops the catch purposely..we are proud of our boys .. Pakistan played better.. shame on such people who r putting our own guys down by saying cheap things on this platform bout arsh and team.. Arsh is GOLD."

Mr. Chadha also said the kind of hate Arshdeep was being subjected to is appalling.

"Let us cut that young man some slack. Arshdeep is an amazing talent and will lead the Indian bowling attack in the coming years. No hate can pull him down," said Mr. Chadha in his tweet.

Former CM Amarinder Singh said it was unfortunate that Arshdeep was being mocked over dropping the catch.

"Such things [dropping a catch] happen in sports, especially under such tremendous pressure. We must support and encourage our sports heroes. Arshdeep, do not be disappointed. You have a long and glorious career ahead, he said in a Facebook post.

BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa also slammed those who targeted Arshdeep and called him a 'Khalistani'.

"Arshdeep Singh is a bright player. He played very well and everybody in the country stands by him," he said in a video message.

In a tweet, he said, "India comes before Cricket. I reject Pak propaganda and stand with Arshdeep Singh."

Punjab Congress chief Warring said he was proud of Arshdeep. #IStandWithArshdeep,” he said in his tweet.

SAD chief Sukhbir Badal said calling Arshdeep 'Khalistani' was against the essence of the spirit of sports.

"We are 1st & foremost Indian. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh & Christians later. Sikhs are the most patriotic & nationalist community. To label arshdeepsinghh Khalistani just because of a dropped catch is against the essence of our national psyche & spirit of sports. #IStandWithArshdeep," said Mr. Badal.

In his tweet, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa said, "We are proud of you arshdeepsinghh. I am sure you will bring many laurels for the nation in near future. Don't let online trolls affect your positivity and energy. Next match the nation will look forward to an amazing performance by you."

Punjab BJP general secretary Subhash Sharma called Arshdeep a pride of India and said the whole country is with the cricketer.

Arshdeep Singh is latest victim of nexus of Pakistani 5th generation warfare machinery

New Delhi: Indian cricket team bowler Arshdeep Singh became the latest victim of the sinister nexus between Pakistani fifth generation warfare machinery, their Indian associates aligned with Pakistani cause and a section of the Indian media in the aftermath of India’s loss against Pakistan in a T20 Asia Cup match that concluded on Sunday.

A window of opportunity opened up for the Pakistani fifth generation warfare to muddy the waters when during the match Arshdeep dropped a simple-looking catch at a crucial juncture of an evenly poised contest by then.

While it stoked strong reactions from Indian fans, at around 11:05 pm Pakistani 5th generation warfare machinery jumped in the fray and a campaign commenced in no time to label Arshdeep as Khalistani.

The well-orchestrated and thought-out plan was simple: to create a communal chasm between Sikhs and Hindus. The ploy is one of the better known in ISI’s quiver.

The players’s Wikipedia page entry was changed to reflect a Khalistan association.

Taking strong note of the matter, Ministry of Information Technology on Monday summoned Wikipedia executives in India to explain the origins of the alteration of Wikipedia account of Arshdeep Singh.

The employment and use of such non-kinetic military actions by Pakistani ISPR evoke no surprises and several such events have taken place in past three years.

The modus operandi used in Arshdeep case reminded of the Mohd Shami episode in October 2021.

orensic analysis of events leading to the Arshdeep episode, found out that as soon as Arshdeep dropped the catch at around 11:05 pm, first tweet came from @7cking__Mad who tweeted “Arshdeep my khalistani brother.”

Soon, a deluge of tweets calling Arshdeep Khalistani started, but the first tweet that received traction was from hasnainYounas25 who tweeted “It’s time to declare arshdeep KHALISTANI”

Before this tweet, one Pakistani handle – naseemakram100 asked “Arshdeep khalistani ka trend chalani hain ya nhi??”

While all Pakistani handles were droning on with their propaganda, one prominent Indian handle – @thetanmay was quick to tweet “Arshdeep’s manager deleting twitter and Instagram from his phone”

The fuel to already raging fire was instantly added by Wajahat S Khan- a known ISPR aide and current Digital Editor of Nikkei Asia in New York who was the first prominent handle to use the Khalistani word in the context of Arshdeep.

He tweeted following at 11;08, within 3 minutes of the dropped catch. He tweeted “Arshdeep is a clearly a part of the Pakistan-backed Khalistan movement,”

Another Pakistani handle @EyeMKhokhar with good following was the next to join in with tweet that read “Indiot Media to Khalistani hero Arshdeep singh.”

Even Pakistani politicians were not to be left behind as one twitter handle shaheerSialvi, proclaiming to be Chairman of Pakistan Nazriati Party (PNP) tweeted “Arshdeep hmara apna Khalistani hai Jay Khalsa

Other twitter handles that helped form narrative around Arshdeep as a Khalistani were also from Pakistan.

By then, enough online material was generated online to support Pakistan manufactured narrative of Arshdeep labeled as a Khalistani. A caution around this was sounded out @AjiHaaan – a prominent handle predicted that Indian fact checkers will use this to run their agenda.

Ace cricketer Harbhajan Singh soon joined the bandwagon and his tweet attracted instant attention of Mohd Zubair, who is currently out on bail in cases that accused him of spreading enmity and divide within the society by instigating riots.

At the same time, few Indian journalist Abhishek (@abhesheksay) tweeted amplifying Pak manufactured agenda. Another journalist Shruti Sonal (@shrutisonal), completely disregarding the origins of the entire motivated propaganda campaign, blamed Indians. The tweet has since been deleted.

The Pak manufactured narrative of Indian nationalists terming Arshdeep as Khalistani for the dropped catch extended to other platforms like Facebook and Wikipedia as well.

His Wikipedia page was edited and the word Khalistani was added to his page by a Pakistan based Wiki editor. This controversy was exposed by @askanshul through a series of tweets.

Anshul further exposed various Pakistani actors who played this game in a series of tweets.

Anshul ended his thread with a tweet that was enough to expose the game of Pakistan in Arshdeep episode.

Amidst the raging controversy, AAP minister in Punjab, ignoring all the proof of Pakistani hand behind Arshdeep controversy, provided legitimacy to Pakistani campaign via his photo op and has contributed to the separatist agenda, investigation reporty said.

Evidently, it is clear that entire campaign to call Arshdeep as Khalistani was planned and executed from Pakistan and their 5th generation warfare machinery.

Andhbhakhts at their best. :91: How can you blame it on Pakistanis when you yourself are filled with hatred towards every religion except hindu? They even blamed Pakistan during farmers protest. :facepalm

And blaming the loss on Arshdeep is the most childish thing one can do. There were two batters left after that. And the real culprits were Sky, Pant and Pandya who didn't do anything in that match. India were at least 20 runs short thanks to these powerhitters who start to bat like Marvan Attapattu as soon as the pressure starts to build on them. :inti

Fake IDs, pakistanis pretending to be Indians etc all have been exposed during this incident. Its very easy to identify Pakistanis pretending to be Indians.

The reports and evidences are all over media.

The propoganda has failed massively and no amount of trying to raise is going to succeed, no matter how much one pretends to be something he isn't.

They are not blaming Pakistanis...it has been proven by investigation agencies that most of the tweets originated from Pakistan, Singapore, USA using those 2 hashtags combined. Also, the wikipedia page was changed and added the 'K' word by agencies based outside India. See all the links provided above. Indian govt was quick to action this time after Shami incident. Since twitter posts are not permitted in this thread otherwise there are video evidences availables which country has the most amount of google searches made using the phrase 'Khalistani' in 3 hours after the dropped catch.

Everything is not on 'andhbhakts' you see. Otherwise Avesh Khan gave away 53 runs against HongKong...why was he not attacked? Why does it only happens against Pakistan and when we lose?

I hope Indian govt investigate this issue as it is a serious concern.

Also, @Bhaag_Viru_Bhaag - as far as the match is concerned, that was a costly drop by Arshdeep. Asif Ali went onto score 19 runs in next over. Arshdeep along with Bhuvi Kumar was primary reason we lost. Also, Rohit's captaincy was poor...he could have tried off spin of Hooda against left handed Nawaz.

Pakistan's fielding was superb in the game and that is where we lost (due to our fielding). Yes Pant should be blamed, 100%. But you expect 9 out of 10 times to defend 181.

Don't know what match you were watching. Fakhar misfielded twice in the last over, yielding 8 runs to India I believe. He dropped an easy catch also.

And Pakistan gave away 14 extras in the match.

Despite of that Pakistan bowlers made a good comeback and Mohammad Nawaz changed the game completely with his cameo.

And blaming Arshdeep is the last thing people should do. Pakistan had better batsmen then Ali left. Khushdil was at the crease and then you had Iftikhar, Shadab and even Rauf can hit big.

The hate that some people display at every possible moment is disgusting to say the least.

Indian cricket fans targeting everyone irrespective of region and religion.
Poor people only do cherry pick analysis.

Hearing the Wiki page was edited by a Pakistani. Not sure how credible it is, lets see what comes out of this...

This is awfully awfully strange....

If it was an Indian that did this, then what a pathetic piece of shi* he/she is...

How has Wikipedia reacted to the incident?

Acknowledging that the Ministry has sought answers about the vandalism, a spokesperson for Wikimedia Foundation said that the wrongful edits made on Singh’s page were “removed within minutes by Wikipedia’s volunteer community”. “Right now, the article on English Wikipedia is semi-protected (which allows edits by only trusted users) to restrict further vandalism on the page.”

“Vandalism does occur on Wikipedia from time to time, as can occur in any open, online platform. It is a violation of the trust and good faith of our editors and readers, and runs contrary to the values on which Wikipedia is based. The majority of vandalism on Wikipedia is reverted by bots or editors within minutes, as was done in this recent case,” the spokesperson added.

The Foundation that runs Wikipedia has received an email from the IT Ministry enquiring about the incident in which Indian cricketer Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page was vandalised

Responding to allegations from Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar of “deliberate efforts to incitement,” the Wikimedia Foundation, which runs Wikipedia, said cricketer Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page had been corrected and secured, with only “trusted editors” now allowed to modify it.

While some reports stated that the government had issued a summons to Wikipedia officials, the Foundation said that none of its executives had been summoned. However, the Foundation has received an email from the IT Ministry enquiring about the incident. The Wikimedia Foundation said that it or Wikipedia do not currently have any office in India.

Indian cricketer Arshdeep Singh’s page on the Wikipedia platform was vandalised after he dropped a crucial catch during the Asia Cup India-Pakistan match in Dubai on Sunday. Pakistan went on to win the Super 4 match by five wickets. Arshdeep Singh faced massive trolling on social media after the match, and his Wikipedia page was edited to brand him as “Khalistani.”

In response, Mr. Chandrasekhar tweeted that, “No intermediary operating in India can permit this type of misinformation and deliberate efforts to incitement and #userharm - violates our govts expectation of Safe & Trusted Internet.”

Wikipedia depends on a large array of volunteer editors to generate and moderate its content, with over 60,000 of them in India. The Wikimedia Foundation said that the rules regarding content are set by these volunteers and that the organisation itself does not play any role in setting editorial policy.

“Vandalism does occur on Wikipedia from time to time, as can occur in any open, online platform. It is a violation of the trust and good faith of our editors and readers, and runs contrary to the values on which Wikipedia is based. The majority of vandalism on Wikipedia is reverted by bots or editors within minutes, as was done in this recent case,” the Foundation said in a statement.

In an earlier email interview to The Hindu, Wikimedia Foundation CEO Maryana Iskander had said that while Wikipedia was not immune to misinformation, “our commitment to verifiability and transparency has protected us from some of these recent trends.”

Ms. Iskander said that Wikipedia’s method of volunteer driven content moderation worked because “the site is radically transparent.” “Every decision on Wikipedia and every edit is visible on the article’s edit history or its talk page,” she said.

Wikipedia has also faced criticism over the years regarding the neutrality of its articles, particularly from right-wing organisations and media outlets which claim that the articles on the online “encyclopaedia” are biased to the Left. Responding to these claims, Ms. Iskander claimed that research has shown Wikipedia as “one of the only places on the internet where those who participate in the editing process become more neutral over time.”

The collaborative editing process “encourages people to consider other viewpoints, inherently leading to more neutral articles,” she said.

I searched his name on Twitter after the IndoPak game and saw plenty of Indians mostly the right-wing RSS supporters abusing and labeling him Khalistani.

Do not post tweets, FB page links etc for non cricketers on Cricket Forum

I heard wikimedia executives have gone into hiding fearing RAW agents. LOL!!!!

On a serious note, can a country reach out to a person offering citizenship? sort of like offering someone asylum?

I am sure Arsh is a patriotic Indian but I think we may have a place for him in our team if he really feels threatened by the Bhakts.

Surely if Tendulkar is also tweeting about it then there are some serious issues within some Indian fans and Indian cricket community. Not sure blaming some bad eggs across the border and completely having blind eye towards actual issue in Indian cricket community and some with political agendas is the right way to go about it as some are trying to do.

Arshdeep is just a young guy, its really poor the way he has to face such things due to certain agendas of people.

Stuff of nightmares really, he would probably feel a lot of pressure on him from now on. It will take exceptional mental strength to bounce back from such abuse.

Ask Hassan Ali.

The Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits, Liberal Hindus and Christians of India should all band together against the radical BJP Hindus who are a cancer.

You have to add LGBT and women's liberation activists who fight against Brahminical patriarchy to your list.

By the way, all of the above mentioned groups baded together in 90's itself. Its call Congress Party. Now they are called Aam Aadmi Patry.

Indian fans attacked MSD house and missiles were thrown at other Indian player's houses before.

Verified FB pages of pakistani companies using Arshdeep's pictures to troll him.

Its out who was involved here.

Your word is seriously very very solid and of course the ICJ would harshly sanction us if you just send them a screen grab of this post of yours.

May God help us now!

Given his last over which went all over the place, I fear there could be more abuse on the way.

Sad really.

Guys, I strongly request posters here to use some common sense.

There are mischievous elements who will target any minority player to stoke divisions as part of political strategies. If Danish was still playing for Pakistan he too would be subject of this.

These are an extreme minority of actors and are not fans; they are political actors. This is not an unacceptable response out of frustration or bigotry. It's just caused to stoke division.

Please follow the lead of Arshdeep and his parents and ignore these idiots and don't give them the publicity they want.

Arshdeep's father stated in media that Arshdeep is taking it all as a joke and isn't at all bothered. This is correct. There is not even 0.05% support for these attacks amongst Indian fan base its manufactured nonsense. Indian cricket fans have no issue with Arshdeep whatsoever and the reality is he's quite popular.

Arshdeep will and should replace BK.

Chalo jee, ajj isdey khair koi nahi.

Ends up losing to sri lanka today. I fear for his life now

Arshdeep should come take refuge in Pakistan. The poor kid is going to get harrassed when he goes back.

Overthrow from the young man but credit to him he bowled a brilliant last over and nearly brought his team back into the match in the last over.

I thought he bowled an excellent last over, shame about the run out opportunity but that is cricket for you

Good last over from him. Seems to have some control over the yorker length. Would be a loss for India if he's dropped

But maybe I am overreacting. After all, India is a very safe country with extremely low levels of crime and the minorities there are always made to feel like they belong. There have certainly not been any other minority public figures who have been abused on the basis of their identity.

Arshdeep will be fine...

Despite the fact that he should have hit the stumps - it was an excellent last over from Arshdeep

He is the future. I hope he has ended BK's career as a "death bowler"

From the current bowling line up. Aeshdeep and Chahal only are deserving.

Rest 2 are absolutely rubbish.

Bhai India's record with minorities is poor, as is Pakistan's there's no question about this. However this entire issues is manufactured.

There is no genuine anger with Arshdeep, even amongst people with regressive mentality. Even in Shami's case, I can concede maybe 1% of bigoted fans had a genuine problem with him. Here nobody has an issue with Arshdeep, and it is just internet trolls who are doing it to cause problems.

He is the future. I hope he has ended BK's career as a "death bowler"

I just hope the people who have been spouting rubbish on social media etc at him give him a break.

He has a lot of potential and deserves support, but I fear after the winning runs today some will target him again.

It’s easy for India to put all the blame on Pakistan for targeting Arshdeep Singh. It is much easier to shift the blame than acknowledge there is a problem.

I know of Indians who have stopped following Indian cricket following the farmers protests. The Arshdeep issue is not a surprise to many.

It is sad state of affairs....blame an individual all you want....but don't say it was due to their background. Therefore know how the social media cells work and how they target based on background. I fear something awful will happen one day.....before this behaviour stops.

I’m just saying you have no right to criticise another person who highlights the hatred the fans of some countries receive from some bad people of Afghanistan.

The same argument applies here too. These are some bad people of India targeting an Indian minority player.

The lack of self awareness, even after you have painstakingly explained it to him, is simply astounding.

This is a hilarious article. "Fifth generation warfare", LOL. This term is used repeatedly and the author of the article is clearly clueless.

Most of the accounts were from pakistan. Similar things happened during Shami incident.

Already the officials of Wikipedia have been summoned by ministeries to explain how Arshdeep's Wikipedia got changed.

The twitter officials may next.

Lol summoned. IT ministry of India sent a mail to Wikipedia foundation and they secured arshdeep's page. Wiki do not have a office in India to be summoned

LOL, ‘bhai’ that was sarcasm. It was pretty obvious.

It was only a Asia cup match...I wonder what would happen if a minority Indian player drops a critical catch in a ODI WC final against PAK.

Before any Indian jumps all over this post, I am not talking about what Indians will do, I am talking about all the drama

No need for trolls when your captain does this...

Arshdeep Singh has gone through a lot in the last three-four days. The 23-year-old left-arm seamer was mercilessly trolled for dropping Pakistan's Asif Ali's catch in the 18th over of the match, which proved to be costly as Asif almost finished off the match in the next over. Arshdeep showed incredible grit to come back and dismiss the Pakistan batter in the last over and nearly win the match for India but it wasn't to be. A couple of nights later, he was once again thrown the ball in the last over with only 6 to defend. The opposition this time was Sri Lanka.

It was almost like deja vu for Arshdeep. Just like in the game against Pakistan, the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar leaked runs in the 19th over to make matters nearly impossible in the last over. Arshdeep had to deal with Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa with them needing only 7 runs off 6 balls.

The left-arm seamer nailed four consecutive yorkers resulting in five runs and then beat the bat with a length ball in the fifth delivery but India's keeper Rishabh Pant and Arshdeep himself missed the stumps on both ends as Sri Lanka ran two byes to win the match and all but end India's hopes in Asia Cup 2022.

In between all this, captain Rohit Sharma was seen almost turning his back on Arshdeep when the youngster appeared to suggest something to his captain. The video of the incident has spread like wildfire on Twitter. Rohit, who was visibly under a lot of pressure to get the field right, was spotted having long chats with pretty much all the bowlers including Arshdeep during the course of the match but on this particular occasion, the Indian captain was perhaps not ready to listen to what Arshdeep had to say.

Needless to say, Rohit's gesture did not go down too well with the netizens who were furious with the India opener.

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 100.000%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/vhpk9o" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

Rohit, who top-scored for India with a stunning 72 off 41 balls, defended the youngster when asked about the trolls against him.

"Honestly, guys here don't look too much into social media these days. We don't look much into a few losses or a dropped catch. He (Arshdeep)was himself disappointed because it was a catch that could've been taken," Rohit said in the post-match press conference," he added.

Chahal? Just because he got gifts from SL today? Guy is a poor fielder, catcher and a poor batsman. :inti
lol, he is clueless about almost everything under the sun. How did you expect him to have any clue in this case?

It has already been proven by numerous sources that most of these accounts were originated in Pakistan, some people are in denial because it doesn’t suit their agenda.

This Arshdeep fellow is not a bad bowler but he is a timid cat. His attitude and persona is not fitting for an Indian cricketer in 2022 - he may as well be playing for Pakistan considering his nervous body language.

I don’t see a long future for him at this level because he does not have any presence.

As Pakistan completed a narrow, thrilling win over India in the Asia Cup Super Four match at Dubai cricket stadium, a certain section of Indian fans launched a flurry of hate-filled, racist tweets directed at their fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.

In a nail-biting finish, India lost by five wickets on Sunday. While Singh bowled well, giving away just 27 runs off his 3.5 overs, including the final over of the match, his dropped catch off Asif Ali was the reason he became the latest Indian cricketer to be targeted over his religion.

Ali had yet to score when he was dropped by Singh. The batter went on to score 16 valuable runs off just eight deliveries, playing a key role in Pakistan’s win at the death.

Soon after, a section of fans went on Twitter, singling Singh out for India’s loss and labelling the Sikh bowler “Khalistani”, a reference to the separatist movement that has demanded a separate state for Sikhs in the northern state of Punjab.

Over the last eight years since Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in power, Hindu majoritarianism has swept across India and non-Hindu minorities have been at the receiving end.

In June this year, the US Department of State noted in its annual report that “attacks on members of religious minority communities, including killings, assaults, and intimidation, occurred throughout the year [2021]. These included incidents of ‘cow vigilantism’ against non-Hindus based on allegations of cow slaughter or trade in beef.”

The lynching of Muslims has become common, and a slew of laws and state actions have been implemented, putting their lives and way of life in mortal jeopardy.

Other minorities such as Christians have also been attacked with their schools and churches targeted over right-wing Hindu claims of forced conversions.

Most farmer unions who protested against the Modi-led Indian government were from Punjab, the only Sikh majority state in the country.
The Modi government eventually backtracked and repealed the contentious farm legislation.

The targeting of Singh by using terms such as “Khalistani” and “Sikh” indicate the growing impunity of right-wing Hindu groups.
“It seems inevitable that a section of fans, particularly with the sheer amount of cricket being played, will need to manufacture talking points,” Siddhanth Aney, former editor of Sports Illustrated India, told Al Jazeera.

“That this manifests as targeting of those most easy to attack – any kind of minority – reflects the success of the propaganda project of India’s current ruling ideology. It puts into sharp contrast why we watch and love sport, with the more stark reality of the world in which that sport happens.”

Sunday’s incident was not the first time a non-Hindu player was targeted. Singh, 23, merely was the latest cricketer to become the target of hate campaigns and vicious criticism following a loss to Pakistan.

In October last year, Mohammed Shami, another Indian fast bowler, was abused after the team’s loss to Pakistan at the same venue.

He was targeted for being a Muslim with questions being raised over his loyalty and patriotism because of his religion.

While the Indian cricket board has not come out in support of Singh yet, it tweeted a delayed response to the criticism aimed at Shami.
However, Virat Kohli, who was then captain of the national team, slammed the treatment handed out to Shami.

“To me, attacking someone over their religion is the most pathetic thing a human being can do,” Kohli said at a press conference last year, despite an attempt by the team’s media manager to avoid answering the question.

“There’s a reason we are playing on the field and not those spineless people. Many people hide their identity in social media, then try to troll the players and it is the lowest point in their life.”

Cricket matches between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, who have fought at least three wars, have always been high-voltage affairs.
The two sides have not played bilateral series since 2012 and the continuing Asia Cup match on August 28 was the first time the teams met since October last year.

In the past, right-wing Hindu groups have forcibly prevented the two from playing in India.

Also targeted during cricket matches with Pakistan are Muslims, especially students who have been assaulted whenever India loses to its Muslim neighbour.

Anyone doing business in India can be summoned. Or they can take their business out.

This has been denied - no "summons" issued but email etc sent.

Wiki don't have an office in India so who would they summon?

Kudos to Arshadeep for ignoring the abuser.

I don't think a Pakistani fan would ever call a Pakistani player "traitor".

Plus I can assure you, security or not security, camera or not camera, likes of Shoaib or Afridi etc. would have beaten the hooligan out of this loser :akhtar

This is just pathetic.

Both games, the Indian senior bowler failed in 19th over. In 2022, it is very hard to defend anything less than 12.

Even no. 11s around the world have first class 50s.

I hope Indian selectors are not as clueless as some Indian khair-khawas :yk

I think the logical conclusion for the abuse is that it emanated from India and by the little RSS Internet warriors.

Some facts are irrefutable. India wants to marginalise Pakistan, politically, socially and its sports (in this case Cricket). Rumours about possible bombing, suicide attacks on foreign players in Pakistan emanated from India and the easy thing to do now is to say that the Ardeep hate messages were from Pakistan to build up their narrative that Pakistan is a dangerous hate filled enemy of India. Both for its own people and for foreign allies.

India's policies towards Pakistan are at work here.

Lol what are you on about?

Pakistani fast bowlers have way more character and personality in comparison to their Indian counterparts right now. Just because they respect India doesn’t mean they fear them.

Bhuvaneshwar too scared to bowl straight with his trundler pace

The most predictable line with his field setting on the off side

Arshdeep Singh stops after man abuses him in front of team bus, Indian journalists haul offender

Arshdeep heard the man's comments and stopped after stepping inside the bus but then decided not to indulge further and went inside. Some journalists were also waiting on the sidelines, video graphing the entire incident. The moment the video recording was done, the journalists were seen confronting the fan for his behaviour.

Indian sports journalists hauled a man who abused Arshdeep Singh in front of the team bus after the India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup Super 4 match in Dubai on Tuesday. The man, who claimed to be an Indian, was waiting to catch a glimpse of the cricketers boarding the team bus after India's loss to Sri Lanka in a thrilling encounter. India pacer Arshdeep Singh was one of the last cricketers to make his way into the team bus. Just when the 23-year-old was about to step inside the bus, the fan was heard hurling objectionable words in Punjabi with reference to Arshdeep's drop catch against Pakistan.

Arshdeep heard the man's comments and stopped after stepping inside the bus but then decided not to indulge further and went inside. Some journalists were also waiting on the sidelines, video graphing the entire incident. The moment the video recording was done, Indian journalist Vimal Kumar was seen confronting the man for his behaviour. Another journalist joined in and they were seen complaining to the security personnel for 'abusing' Arshdeep Singh.

The security personnel were seen trying to calm the Indian journalists down before asking the man to leave. This was the first incident of face-to-face rogue behaviour that Arshdeep Singh faced. Till now the hatred had been limited to social media only.

The young left-arm seamer has been facing the wrath ever since he dropped Pakistan batter Asif Ali in the 18th over of India's match against Pakistan on Sunday. The trolling went up several notches as Pakistan went on to beat India in that match despite Arshdeep's brilliant last over.

On Tuesday, Arshdeep once again tried his best by dragging the match till the penultimate ball but in the end, Sri Lanka batters Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa ran two byes to win the match by six wickets by chasing down 174. With this defeat, India's hopes of making it to the final were all but dashed. Now the Rohit Sharma-led side will have to depend on other teams to beat Pakistan and then hope they can beat Afghanistan to have a better net run rate than them and Pakistan to face Sri Lanka in the final.

I really feel for this bloke, he will need good security for a long time.

Dropping the catch wasn’t the issue

The smirk afterwards must have really riled up the Indian fans. Didn’t realise this will escalate so much
