Indian cricket fans targetting another minority player, Arshdeep Singh

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Harjinder Singh Dhami on Tuesday condemned hateful comments against cricketer Arshdeep Singh on social media after he dropped a catch in an India-Pakistan match in Dubai.

They said the cricketer has been a deliberate target of hatred.

Earlier, the BJP standing by the young cricketer, said, "Arshdeep Singh India's pride, every Indian stands with him."

"(Jathedar) Harpreet Singh said that this phenomenon is extremely dangerous for the world, and if a common opinion is not formed globally to strictly stop such mischievous acts of destroying the character of the follower of a faith, it is natural that there will be cracks among the humanity in future," a statement said. Akal Takht is the highest temporal seat of Sikhs.

Both the Sikh leaders said sports is an important medium for promoting brotherhood but targeting of sportsmen under "hateful thinking" will only create problems.

They said deliberate belittling of the performance of Arshdeep Singh and spreading false propaganda against him is a part of the process of targeting the achievements of Sikhs for the country and at the world level, the statement said.

On Monday, several Punjab leaders cutting across party lines came out in support of the fast bowler, who faced brutal social media trolls for dropping the catch in the high-voltage match.

Dropping the catch wasn’t the issue

The smirk afterwards must have really riled up the Indian fans. Didn’t realise this will escalate so much

Yeah and this was supposed to be 'just another match' for most of our fans? Calling it dead rivalry, joke of a rivalry then getting hurt so badly that you have to abuse the cricketer for dropping a catch? Do you see these things when we lose against Australia? Never. :inti

Pre 2021, most Indian fans here lead by the Optimus Prime of Anti Pakistan Mamoon were another level. I think they were totally sold on the notion that Pakistan is non-existent, or irrelevant as an international side and India is a juggernaut which can function world cricket without the presence of Pakistan.

I’m glad for that 152-0. It was a watershed moment for so many

New Delhi: Indian cricket team bowler Arshdeep Singh became the latest victim of the sinister nexus between Pakistani fifth generation warfare machinery, their Indian associates aligned with Pakistani cause and a section of the Indian media in the aftermath of India’s loss against Pakistan in a T20 Asia Cup match that concluded on Sunday.

A window of opportunity opened up for the Pakistani fifth generation warfare to muddy the waters when during the match Arshdeep dropped a simple-looking catch at a crucial juncture of an evenly poised contest by then.

While it stoked strong reactions from Indian fans, at around 11:05 pm Pakistani 5th generation warfare machinery jumped in the fray and a campaign commenced in no time to label Arshdeep as Khalistani.

The well-orchestrated and thought-out plan was simple: to create a communal chasm between Sikhs and Hindus. The ploy is one of the better known in ISI’s quiver.

The players’s Wikipedia page entry was changed to reflect a Khalistan association.

Taking strong note of the matter, Ministry of Information Technology on Monday summoned Wikipedia executives in India to explain the origins of the alteration of Wikipedia account of Arshdeep Singh.

The employment and use of such non-kinetic military actions by Pakistani ISPR evoke no surprises and several such events have taken place in past three years.

The modus operandi used in Arshdeep case reminded of the Mohd Shami episode in October 2021.

orensic analysis of events leading to the Arshdeep episode, found out that as soon as Arshdeep dropped the catch at around 11:05 pm, first tweet came from @7cking__Mad who tweeted “Arshdeep my khalistani brother.”

Soon, a deluge of tweets calling Arshdeep Khalistani started, but the first tweet that received traction was from hasnainYounas25 who tweeted “It’s time to declare arshdeep KHALISTANI”

Before this tweet, one Pakistani handle – naseemakram100 asked “Arshdeep khalistani ka trend chalani hain ya nhi??”

While all Pakistani handles were droning on with their propaganda, one prominent Indian handle – @thetanmay was quick to tweet “Arshdeep’s manager deleting twitter and Instagram from his phone”

The fuel to already raging fire was instantly added by Wajahat S Khan- a known ISPR aide and current Digital Editor of Nikkei Asia in New York who was the first prominent handle to use the Khalistani word in the context of Arshdeep.

He tweeted following at 11;08, within 3 minutes of the dropped catch. He tweeted “Arshdeep is a clearly a part of the Pakistan-backed Khalistan movement,”

Another Pakistani handle @EyeMKhokhar with good following was the next to join in with tweet that read “Indiot Media to Khalistani hero Arshdeep singh.”

Even Pakistani politicians were not to be left behind as one twitter handle shaheerSialvi, proclaiming to be Chairman of Pakistan Nazriati Party (PNP) tweeted “Arshdeep hmara apna Khalistani hai Jay Khalsa

Other twitter handles that helped form narrative around Arshdeep as a Khalistani were also from Pakistan.

By then, enough online material was generated online to support Pakistan manufactured narrative of Arshdeep labeled as a Khalistani. A caution around this was sounded out @AjiHaaan – a prominent handle predicted that Indian fact checkers will use this to run their agenda.

Ace cricketer Harbhajan Singh soon joined the bandwagon and his tweet attracted instant attention of Mohd Zubair, who is currently out on bail in cases that accused him of spreading enmity and divide within the society by instigating riots.

At the same time, few Indian journalist Abhishek (@abhesheksay) tweeted amplifying Pak manufactured agenda. Another journalist Shruti Sonal (@shrutisonal), completely disregarding the origins of the entire motivated propaganda campaign, blamed Indians. The tweet has since been deleted.

The Pak manufactured narrative of Indian nationalists terming Arshdeep as Khalistani for the dropped catch extended to other platforms like Facebook and Wikipedia as well.

His Wikipedia page was edited and the word Khalistani was added to his page by a Pakistan based Wiki editor. This controversy was exposed by @askanshul through a series of tweets.

Anshul further exposed various Pakistani actors who played this game in a series of tweets.

Anshul ended his thread with a tweet that was enough to expose the game of Pakistan in Arshdeep episode.

Amidst the raging controversy, AAP minister in Punjab, ignoring all the proof of Pakistani hand behind Arshdeep controversy, provided legitimacy to Pakistani campaign via his photo op and has contributed to the separatist agenda, investigation reporty said.

Evidently, it is clear that entire campaign to call Arshdeep as Khalistani was planned and executed from Pakistan and their 5th generation warfare machinery.

So this Indian man who waited outside the bus to abuse him is a 5th generation Pakistani warrior

For Pakistanis not in the know, the Indian fans who have thrown Arshdeep under the bus are rabid BJP supporters. Arshdeep hails from a state called Punjab which the BJP has been unable to make inroads in (even their ally the SAD has dumped them). So any BJP bhakts trolling Arshdeep are merely hating on him and his state's people for not voting their party to power, even though they have no idea who the CM of Punjab will be in such a case.

Would be great if people answering this thread would go through posts to see that material they are trying to add is covered before or not.

The only ones being in denial are you guys that indians are calling him ghaddar or khalistani because he is from minority and has to prove his allegiance

I remember watching Brian Lara smash Kaneria in a Test match in Pakistan in 2006. I was watching the game with a bunch of friends and I vividly remember one of them stating that this is why we should not have Hindus in the team.

When England lost the Euro 2021 final to Italy, racist English fans made monkey emojis and criticized the skin of the three colored players who missed the penalties.

Shahid Afridi was regularly criticized by Punjabi cricket fans for his non-serious approach towards batting by stating that “pathano ke paas dimagh nahi hota”.

My point is that when a minority player makes a mistake, you will always have some bigoted people criticize their religion/ethnicity etc. it happens everywhere and it happens in India as well.

I am not saying that no Indian had targeted Arshdeep or did not target Shami. However, the fact is that on both occasions, Pakistani trolls have orchestrated a systematic, targeted attack to defame India.

They have used these isolated and rare attacks by Indian fans to prove their innocence and claim that they have nothing to do with this. They are using these bigoted Indians to their advantage.

i agree with you, minorities do get targeted, and i always say we Pakistanis aren't any good.

But my issue is the indian posters who deny this at all. I as a Pakistani agree we are no angels when it comes to treating minorities, but India should also admit atleast.

Out of interest, who is the ruling party there and how long have they been in power?

The Aam Aadmi Power is currently in power, and they have been in power for just a few months.

Before that, Captain Amarinder Singh of the Congress was in power for a full five year term. But as we know, the Congress is in suicide mode and humiliated him leading him to leave the party during the elections. Hence they snatched defeat from the hands of victory.

The main opposition is the dysfunctional Shiromani Akali Dal, whose dangerous drug culture and rampant corruption has ensured that they don't gain much during recent elections. In fact, the BJP being a silent ally of this party for so many years has kyboshed their chances in the state above all else.

So the takeaway I'm getting here is that in India, some fans will put more allegiance to their political identity rather than getting behind their national side.

so they can abuse players who may not be seen as conforming to that ideology or political affiliation.

I guess its an easy way to identify a scapegoat.

What rubbish is this!!!

Sikhs are big BJP voters in places like Delhi and UKD and Himachal.

BJP has very small presence in Punjab.

Bunch of illiterates are these guys. :inti

These are clearly Pakistani terrorists who snuck across the border and are pretending to be Indians in order to destabilize India.

The land of India, as we all know, has NEVER had any issues with its minority groups being used as scapegoats by the Hindu majority.

Incomparable situation.
Afridi himself joke about it. There are certains things associated with every community.

And I don't believe your story because you tell lies against Pakistan everyday. You have no limit in downgrading Pakistan and Pakistanis so telling little lies like this will not be any surprise.

There are racist and problems with minorities everywhere but it's a major problem in India these days. Rather than accepting it you tell stories.

So how it was proved that it was done by Indians? Like the tweet about Mohd Shami came from one particular tweet handle, bearing Hindu name..Is it a very difficult thing to do? By the way, I believe we should refrain discussing this in this forum, subcontinent is never too tolerant about minorities anyway. But in Indian sports religion is never been an issue, it wont be.

When India lost to Pakistan in world t20, the fans targeted Mohammad Shami. Just because he was Muslim, Indian fans targeted him claiming he has allegiance towards Pakistan.

Today, when Arshdeep dropped a catch of Asif Ali, Indian fans have started to bash Arshdeep on the lines that he is a pro Khalistan. Khalistan has been bought in for no reason.

Interestingly, the 19th over was bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Yet, each and every time, in Secular India, the minorities are targeted.
