Even if we win in Australia people will come up with excuses like this was Australia C. So winning the world cup will give more joy.![]()
Need to be realistic. Winning the world cup is impossible for a weak middle order team like India. Last 2 world cups are won by home teams and Eng should win it this time. I think 2023 world cup should be India's more realistic target.
Australia series win will be much easier.
Is the 2023 cup in india?
England aren’t winning this worldcup. They usually go into a worldcup with all the hype and then come crashing out. I would be surprised if they even end up in the finals.
Agreed Australian series should be easy pickings for india this time around.
Personally I'd take a 4-0 in Australia (a convincing win so that people can't blame it on Smith/Warner missing) over a WC. But the average fan doesn't care about tests, so most people would pick the WC.
Yes it is. Kohli will lift it in Mumbai![]()
That is where we will avenge Mohali 2011!!!
InshaAllah
True. We are still celebrating the 92 triumphWorld Cup lol. Nobody cares (or remembers) about bilateral test series after 30 years. World Cups will be remembered for eternity.

Wrong! We still celebrate our Test series victory in West Indies in 1971 as one of our greatest trumps. Garry Sobers was invited by the BCCI to India in 2011 to join us in celebrating it's 40th anniversary.
Good for you. Nobody outside India and WI cares about that series. I didn't know there was a series between Ind and WI in 1971, it's not relevant to neutral fans. I know about every world cup.
So do I. And I also know about every Test series that my team has won outside India in the last 40 odd years. There are certain Test series which if you win, would be celebrated more than any of your WC victories. How about a Test series victory in West Indies against a full strength side back from the mid 70's to the late 80's? How about a Test series victory in Australia from 99' till 06' against a full strength Aussie side?
Not every Test series victory away from home is as good as a WC trump though. By no means I'll put our victory in England back in 07' in the same breath as our 83' and 11' WC wins. Similarly, this is a Test series against a v. weak Aussie side. By no means a win in this series (if we manage it somehow) will be comparable to a WC trump.
As I said, neutral fans don't care. Of course you would care, but others won't. Would any West Indian care England whitewashing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in tests? It's not relevant to neutrals. World Cup is relevant to everybody.

The OP is posting a question to us Indian fans. Of course I would care. And here was your post -
I guess that NOBODY would include us Indian fans as well, right?
Everybody in India knows about the 83' and '11 WC wins. Only die-hard cricket fans will know about the '71 WI win. You simply cannot compare a bilateral series win with a WC win, unless you're English (the Ashes)Wrong! Usually? When was the last WC where England were remotely favoured? 1999 maybe, but even then the team looked ropey.

When was the last time you saw the entire nation go out on streets including the then head of country and bring the entire country into to a standstill?
Reminder - 2011 WC.
Now remind me when did that ever happened in case of any bilateral series win? Be it in any format?
Never.
That answers your question for 99.9℅ of Indians WC will always be the biggest thing in the world and if we win in 2019 you will see ghe same scenes of celebrations where people will be celebrsting all nights in roads and country coming to standstill. You won't see that if we in in Australia all you will see if bunch of news channels inviting some fans in their studios and has been cricketers who are showering praises on the team..
Compare both and you:'ll get your answer how big a difference it is
Thats why icc scrapped that eventEven CT is bigger than something like th Ashes
The World Cup, easy choice. However had Smith/Warner played and Australia been a top 2 side I would have preferred a test series victory there. I rate our tussles against ATG Australia in the 1995-2008 period very highly, no more the case now. A series victory there this time won't top our 2003-04 drawn series against a far superior aura filled XI.

Do you think the Australians similarly under rate their win in 2004 because Tendulkar and Ganguly did not play 4 Tests between them and Tendulkar was pretty much injured and Aus were lucky to have escaped with a Draw in Chennai due to rain ?
I don't know what Aussies think, what I stated is just my personal opinion. They did get a tad lucky in 2004 with Sachin's injury and Ganguly/Harbhajan pullouts just like how they got lucky in 2001 with our twin guns Kumble and Srinath ruled out. In fact I'd say the 2001 loss was bigger because both the Karnataka superstars were our backbone in bowling department on home pitches. But our team was still formidable, this Aussie team without Smith-Warner has a minnowesque batting line up. Moreover they were injured while Warner/Smith are fully fit yet are being kept out because of other reasons which are unprecedented in our sport. I don't agree with the bans they have copped.
India has been a superpower at home for a few decades now, it takes something special (and luck, even 2012 England had luck) to beat us at home. If I were to look at it objectively I would place Australia's 1-2 loss last year at par with their 2004 triumph because we were in the middle of a special home run coming into the series and till middle of final test they had their noses in front.
I don't think they got lucky in Chennai because we had a terrible reputation in 4th innings run chases those days and pitch was beginning to crumble. Recall how we struggled to get 130 odd in 2001 Chennai test, I think we would have met a similar fate in 2004 and been 0-3 down heading to Mumbai. Again just my opinion, I never believed we were favorites on that 5th day at Chepauk.
Well no Aussie thinks less about their win in 2004 despite India missing players and Aus playing with 13 and some despicable politics meant a pitch suitable for Aus was prepared. Only us desis are capable of running down our own achievements. Strangely some Indians actually sing a lot of praises for that Aussie side. The same people will also not hesitate to dismiss any wins against Aus missing key players. The opposition must be playing all first choice players, the pitches should be no less than dark green in color with no umpiring mistakes going in our favor. Only then the wins will matter. Some will even nit pick on dropped catches![]()

Something you have never achieve is always more important than something that almost everybody has achieved.
WC is far easier than winning test series in AUS/SA for Asian team. I would take test series win in those two places over World Cup any day.
As far as remembering, test series wins like that are remembered for lot longer, since they are lot harder.
So the recent Test series win vs WI by Pak is better than WC win ?![]()

Lights out: Adelaide ticket sales take a hit in Test opener against India
What a joke!
This is an Australain team without:-
1. Smith
2. Warner
3. Bancroft
4. Maxwell
5. Pattinson
From India's POV its a dream come true indeed to be winning a test series in Australia but due to this clearly being an Australia B team this achievement isn't anything special in context of international cricket.
Winning the world cup would mean beating best of the best ODI sides in the tournament. Much much much bigger it would be if it happens.
Steve Smith averages 120 against this Indian team in Aus, Warner 50 with 4 100s in 8 games...Bancroft an average player
Pattinson and maxwell were never part of Test team in the last 2 odd years. These 3 players are damn average.
Steve Smith averages 120 against this Indian team in Aus, Warner 50 with 4 100s in 8 games...
Not a single Australian batsmen was able to score 100 in a 4 Test series at home.
I can't even remember the last time that happened.
That says it all really.Jadeja's score of 81 has been higher than any Aussie batsman in this series so far.
