Rishi Kapoor starrer Mulk's trailer has been banned from screening in Pakistan, confirmed Censor board Chairman Daniyal Gillani.

The film, which also stars Taapsee Pannu of Pink fame, is inspired by the true story of an Indian Muslim family which faced persecution after a terrorist attack and the court case which followed.

Images spoke to the censor board and we're told, "Members of the CBFC unanimously decided not to approve the trailer of Mulk as its contents flout the Censorship of Film Code 1980."

Though the violations were not specified sources told us that only Mulk's trailer was presented to the censor board, the film, however, has not yet been presented.

Director Anubhav Sinha took to social media to pen an open letter to his Pakistani audience after hearing about his film's ban.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">A letter to Pakistan. Sorry a question really!!! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/MULK?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#MULK</a> in Theaters tomorrow. <a href="https://t.co/Ak1MogByWK">pic.twitter.com/Ak1MogByWK</a></p>— Anubhav Sinha (@anubhavsinha) <a href="https://twitter.com/anubhavsinha/status/1025008178629472256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 2, 2018</a></blockquote>

He wrote: "Dear Citizens of Pakistan, I say dear citizens of Pakistan at the risk of being called an anti-national by some losers back home. I don't care."

Sinha believes his film is important to view as the message is not 'us vs them' but about unity.

"I remember the day the trailer came out many in India and also many in Pakistan wrote against it. Some in India thought it was pro Muslim and some in Pakistan thought it stereotyped Muslims. Contradictory but true. I kept insisting the film was about LOVE. Love amongst Hindus and Muslims. Now the word is out. The press has seen it and the audience in the UAE too has seen it."

"It is not pro Muslim or Anti Muslim. Pro Pakistan or Anti Pakistan. It is about love that all of us as individuals should have, amongst us. It is about You. It is about Me. You have Hindus as a minority in your country and we have Muslims as a minority in ours. We all must work towards coexisting in peace and harmony."

For Sinha, the question is, "Why is it so that they do NOT want you to see the film that talks about co-existence. I know, sooner or later, you will have access to the film. Please do watch it and give me your opinion why did the Pakistan Censor Board ban the film."

The director ends his note with a plea for his Pakistani audience to watch the films by all means necessary as he believes there is an important message for all to see.

Mulk has released in India.

Why are Bollywood Directors, Actors and Producers so desperate to get there movies released in Pakistan? Have even seen some Big Stars like Akshay Kumar literally begging to get their movies released and wanting to give clarification that their Film is not Anti -Pakistani.

Our country, our rules. Pakistanis are not crying about Indian's banning our movies including those that do not have any Hindu-Muslim or Pak-Bharat theme. So Anubhav before lecturing us and begging us to show your movies lift the ban on Pak movies in India. Even Pak drama's are banned in India for goodness sake. Indian hypocrisy exposed again.

Indian content detriment to the Two-Nation-Theory (TNT) should be banned.

Do Hindu-majority India accepts glorification of Mughal rule in Bollywood ? Not Akbar's petty love story like in that movie, but Aurangzeb's exploits, who was the better administrator.

Guys like Anubhav are chindi directors no one really cares about, so even Pakistani market becomes a substantial revenue source for them. All this ofcourse has to do with the Pakistani fascination with Bollywood. No matter how crap, these movies always do well in Pakistani cinemas.

I mean the Indian chest thumpers on here had us believe that Pakistani viewership of Bollywood isn't even important then idk why this director/producer dude is writing such "heartfelt" letters for unbanning of his film.

Sadly that's true.

I think it has to do with the fact that Bollywood's leading actors are of Pashtun or Punjabi-Khatri descent. :virat

The day Bollywood will showcase the types of Indians who log on social media to put their virtual vomit it might change hopefully.

May be he believes in fake aman ki asha. This movie will not make any money in India forget he is getting any money from Pakistan

Akshay? Which movie did he beg Pakistan to release?

Why ban one here or there?

Ban all of them and spare yourself the silliness.

For business. Demand is there so they are supplying it.

Good job. Hope when there is the inevitable india pakistan war, Pakistan attacks bollywood first. Don't mind being a slave to Pakistan if this gutter cinema industry is obliterated.

I was expecting ban considering pak censor bord's record of banning fairly simple massy movies like raees For displaying Muslim man selling alcohol.

Reviews are good so I think movie will do well at boxoffice in india similar to "pink".

So does anybody know what was the reason the film was banned?

I just saw the trailer and i didn't get any anti pakistan vibes in it..maybe im missing something. It could be that Rishi Kapoor is not as liked over there compared the Khans

"Based on a real-life story, Mulk revolves around the struggles of a Muslim joint family from a small town in India, who fight to reclaim their honour after a member of their family takes to terrorism."

I have an inkling why, but hard to say without watching the film itself.

Pakistan also banned raees, tiger zinda hai. So nothing to do with khan liking.

There must be silly reason which is yet to disclosed By them.

That in itself isn't a reason, there must be some detail which we will only know once someone watches it fully and can propose a theory as to why it would be more offensive than other films which are passed.

Most of those films probably had anti-Pakistan message propagated so that would not be a silly reason.

I was replying to poster who said ecensor board favoring khans.

Tiger zinda hai's concept is raw & isi spies working together on a mission so ban is justified.
But raees had nothing against pak.only reason it was banned because lead character was Muslim bootlegar in the movie.

That sounds like a pretty good concept. Unfortunately Muslims/Pakistanis these days are way too sensitive and in denial about such issues

Is Akshay Kumar also a chindi actor? Or those actors in Veeray di wedding who raised such an uproar on having the movie banned in Pakistan? Who are you trying to fool here?

the other side of the logic is, Pakistanis and muslims in general are shown in a bad light on a massive scale in the global media and even on social media.

Pakistani awaam do have access to these mediums, and are constantly bombarded with this negative publicity about themselves from foreign sources.

Is it worth adding an additional source of possible propaganda / stereo typing / negative portrayal through bollywood movies. Bollywood movies are loved by the masses, so if there are movies with propaganda then they would have an impact on the Pakistani society.

Considering some of their own movies have a hard time releasing in their own country, due to the sensitivities of their own communities, I find it amusing these Bollywood personalities come across so condescending towards Pakistan when their movies get banned in Pakistan.

They give a show of how intolerant Pakistan is having banned their movies for "no reason".

Yet in their very own country they have issues releasing certain movies.

Not to mentioned anything Pakistani related is banned these days in India. Compared to that Pakistan is much more liberal in letting Indian arts over the border.

My only regret is that 'Mulk' was banned in Pakistan: Rishi Kapoor

Last month, Rishi Kapoor’s film Mulk was banned from releasing in Pakistan. A supposedly ‘pro-Muslim’ project, the veteran artist’s latest outing highlights the issues faced by Muslims living in India.

Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman, Danyal Gilani, previously confirmed to The Express Tribune that the trailer of the Anubhav Sinha directorial did not see the light of day in Pakistan. However, he added that the film had not yet been submitted to the board for review.

In more recent news, Rishi, who portrays a Muslim man named Murad Ali Muhammad in Mulk, has finally opened up about the subject. “I’ve been getting sweet text messages from all over the world. My only regret is that the film was banned in Pakistan,” Rishi told Mumbai Mirror.

“Perhaps because we showed that Indian Muslims continue to be heckled with that awful line, ‘Go back to Pakistan’. I wish they would reconsider the ban,” he added.

This isn’t the first time the Bobby actor has essayed a Muslim character. Previously, his famous roles such as Akbar from Amar Akbar Anthony, Dawood Ibrahim from D-Day and Rauf Lala from Agneepath garnered critical as well as commercial acclaim.

According to Rishi, these choices weren’t deliberate. “I’ve been the good guy as well as the baddie. Rauf Lala of Agneepath and Murad of Mulk are at two ends of a spectrum. There was a time, when, like most actors, I’d shun villainous parts. Imagine, I’d even turned down the Shah Rukh Khan role of the stalker in Darr. Once, bad guys on the screen were bad news.”

Last year, Rishi stated that his family has always been “very secular” and holds equal respect for all religions. Sticking to his stance, he said, “The Kapoor family has always been secular. At the height of communal strife around 1947, my grandfather Prithviraj had staged the play Pathan, about a friendship between a Hindu and a Muslim. It ran to 600 packed shows.”

The 66-year-old actor then talked about his son, Ranbir Kapoor’s relationship with actor Alia Bhatt. “It’s Ranbir’s life,” Rishi asserted. “Who he wants to get married to is his prerogative. Neetu likes her, I like her, Ranbir likes her. Get it? I can’t be judgmental. After all, my uncles Shammiji and Shashiji and I chose our life partners. Ranbir is entitled to choose his.”

On a parting note, Rishi remarked, “They say nothing is permanent, nor temporary. Could be, but right now I’m feeling on top of the world. And I hope it stays that way.”

what? really?

Bollywood movies are viewed all the time here. It has great demand. People barely watch hollywood and mostly watch bollywood

Even in marraiges the soundtracks are from bollywood film.

Bollywood relies quite alot on the Pakistani market. Indians could say whatever they want
