I've seen many posts and discussions about India dominating world cricket in the last decade and being the best Indian team in history.
The facts are however otherwise
1. Their test record outside asia is still extremely poor and they can't compete with Pakistan of the 80s and SA of G Smith when it comes to their overseas tests. This is covered in another thread.
2. Their biggest achievement in test cricket this decade is winning in AUS against the weakest AUS side in history. That team was a joke. This is the only overseas series win for India in the last five years.Yes, the only overseas series win.
3. Indian team of the 2000s managed to achieve much more in test cricket- Test series win in PAK, ENG, NZ. Winning test in AUS against an ATG AUS team
4.The only reason India were made to look good was because Pakistan was abysmal in the last decade.We have seen that throughout history Pakistan had always been the best team from asia apart from this decade only due to lack of home matches and the 2010 spot fixing saga. Even in 2000s when PAK lost their stars due to retirement they were higher ranked than India entering both WC 2003 and 2007. I am expecting PAK to again be the dominating asian side this decade. The likes of Shaheen, Babar etc are a breath of fresh air after the horrible last decade. Domestic cricket had always been an issue in Pakistan but that didn't stop us from thrashing other teams in the 70s, 80s, 90s etc.
5. Just like Pakistan of the 90s, India have failed to win major ICC tournaments when it mattered the most. They may have won in 2011,2013 but their KO record has been extremely disappointing. If you want to dominate world cricket, you have to win multiple tournaments like AUS, WI did.
