Indian Wrestlers Allege Sexual Harassment

100%.

These deep fakes are worrying - there was a time a photo was considered irrefutable evidence, now there’s always doubt.

Plus BJP hardliners are getting caught faking a narrative.

BJP IT cells is big as visible on this forum the weirdest thing is they say absolutely the same thing across the internet, it’s remarkable.

Their followers are also on the same wavelength on every single issue, it’s almost insane.

India's ace wrestlers - Sakshee Malikkh, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, who have been at the forefront of the protest against the country's wrestling federation Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, have resumed their duties in the Railways.

Sakshee Malikkh, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia resumed their work on May 31, days after the protesting wrestlers were evicted from Jantar Mantar in Delhi - where they had been protesting since April.

Both Ms Malikkh and Mr Punia have, however, denied the reports of withdrawing from the protest. "This is our fight for justice. We will not step back," Ms Malikkh said.

"We have resumed our duties in Railways, but we are also working on our future strategy," she said.

The wrestlers had also met Home Minister Amit Shah late Saturday evening to request him for an impartial probe against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh - who has been accused of sexual harassment by seven female wrestlers, including a minor.

Amit Shah assured the wrestlers that the law remains the same for everyone, it's learnt. "Let the law take its own course," he reportedly told the wrestlers.

Ms Malikkh today said that they had a "normal" conversation with Mr Shah. "We have only one demand - to arrest Brij Bhushan Singh. We will continue our protest until we get justice," she said.

Sources say the protesting wrestlers had sought a meeting with Mr Shah after their five-day deadline for action against the wrestling federation chief ended on Saturday.

The wrestlers, who allege that their protest against the wrestling federation chief has been largely ignored, had last month announced their decision to immerse their medals into the river Ganga in Haridwar.

Typical witness intimidation by the Sanghi goons.

The BJP can buy out MLAs and MPs on demand. What is some poor minor girl's father?

Almost certainly a case of witness intimidation here. No other way to explain this change of stance.

Or opposition leader trying to oust BBS Singh.

Have you tried intimidating a Jat in Haryana? Esp one who is supported by his Khap.

Deepinder Hooda and his industrialist friend thought they will be able to oust BBS Singh by getting the wrestlers to make allegations.

They thought BJP would give him up and then Hooda will take over WFI.

The wrestlers will get their easy way to olympics without trials.

They didn't think BJP will insist on a thorough investigation and supreme court's involvement backfired.

Now without evidence, their plot is unraveling.

Why are you so desperate to defend a known goonda?

First you tried to palm him off as a Samajwadi MP.

Now you seem to have accepted him as a BJP MP, but a clean pure sanskari guy :dhoni

He was a Samajwadi MP. He won the WFI president elections with support of SP. SP forced Deepinder Hooda to back off.

Seems you are desperate to prove him guilty Even though allegations against him are coming off as false.

This is too far fetched to think these are all part of some huge conspiracy theories. Surely there are power plays here between government and opposition with khap trying to play it's own role but when all the premium wrestlers of the country come together to protest, it is fair to say that not all have come for political mileage or part of some big gameplan but rather they deserve a fair hearing. Let the law takes its course . It's very clear the BBS is not a saint with public demonstration of his feudal mindset in past regardless to what degree the allegations are true or politically accentuated.

Remember the wrestlers did not allow Brinda Karat to get into the stage initially and politely threw her out inspite of her crocodile tears. But when government tries to protect BBS, Congress obviously got a chance to get in to push their agenda. I don't blame Congress or the protesters because if the government would have acted swiftly to facilitate the court hearing it may not have escalated to this level or getting hijacked by the political competitors. My only gripe with wrestlers is that they got misguided when they started having photo ops with Vadra and started marching towards the new parliament on the inauguration day. That's when it was clear that political forces are now in play and successfully hijacked the cause but then that's what happens when justice is denied in a timely manner. It was abysmal on the governments part to use abuse and force on them, rather should have engaged them much earlier.

Because he likes Modi more than he likes India. In this case - he likes Modi's minion more than he likes Indian Olympians.

Tomorrow if the BJP sack BBS, he'll change his tune. Rs. 2 does go far in some places.

Far fetched?

Deepinder Hooda was defeated by BBS Singh for the WFI president post. He thought with BBS Singh's retirement in 2023, he will take over.

Only for BBS singh to reveal his son as a candidate.

Then came the Nationals in 2022 end. Punia Sakshi Vinesh didn't participate. WFI announced that nationals performance will be taken into account for Asian games selection. Within a couple of weeks, wrestlers started protests.

Vinesh Phogat was suspended by WFI after Tokyo 2021. Malik was suspended before that and she also didn't qualify for the 2020 olympics as she lost the trials.

These two have an axe to grind against BBS Singh. Punia is married to Sangeeta phogat, sister of Vinesh phogat. Punia is sponsored by one particular industrialist.

Wrestling in India has been dominated by Haryana and jats, WFI president was a Rajput from UP.

Why did the jats and khaps couldn't pressurise the government? The Rajputs and Thakurs supported BBS Singh.

This is a political, regional and caste fight.

Still does not explain why BBS is being protected by government. Sure his competition is trying to exploit the circumstances to trump him but BBS has been known for misogyny and feudal behaviour for sometime. He himself has admitted in public for being involved in homicide. Point is I would have agreed with your narrative had BBS been a neutral character which he is not. When the fundamentals of the guy is not right, if I am government I will play neutral and let law takes its own course rather than trying to delay the matter and hoping that things will die down. The government is now clearly rattled and on the defensive when the wrestlers decided to throw their medals in the river. They had no response to it other than now Amit Shah himself looking at the matter personally. It need not come to this had the government played their hands better. While there are no saints in this play, the wrestlers are within their own right to held peaceful protests and submerge their medals without being beaten by police.

How is he being protected by the government?

He may have other criminal cases, but that doesn't mean he sexually harassed these wrestlers.

The drama of throwing medals into the river, where Tikait descended from the heavens like a demigod to save the medals was hilarious.

The government is not rattled. Infact they have the upper hand.

The POCSO accuser in her statement to the magistrate has denied any incident of sexual harassment.

There are some reports (unverified) that the wrestlers accused BBS Singh of misbehavior in Turkey and Mongolia. Investigation shows he went to neither country.

The Khaps can only do so much against the combined might of Rajputs and Thakurs backed by Brahmins.

The government waited till they had proofs to show allegations of POCSO were not correct.

If BBS Singh is exonerated, these wrestlers can be sued for criminal defamation, blackmail etc.

There can be perjury cases as well.

What kind of peaceful protest asks one to breach the Parliament security and enter a VVIP zone?

Have you tried intimidating a Jat in Haryana? Esp one who is supported by his Khap.

If you want to fly the flag for BBS, come up with arguments that will fly in a court rather than this nonsense.

Probably To tell them where they stand and what is their legal position.

Next day wrestlers join back their jobs.

I will tell you what BBS singh likely did. He was a heavy handed President. Wrestlers not toeing the federation line were hauled up. And unlike previous regimes there was no special protection for stars or castes.

He was downright rude to some.

But all this doesn't mean he is involved in sexual harassment.

I will let the court weigh in. With so many wrestlers complaining, we should expect a swift verdict to get things back on track.

And what is the evidence that made you think that this is what 'likely' happened ?

Reuters:

The chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, under police investigation for suspected sexual misconduct after accusations by female athletes, held a political rally on Sunday in his first public appearance since the probe was launched in April.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, also a federal lawmaker from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party, is the subject of a criminal case filed by seven female wrestlers who accused him of groping young athletes at training camps and tournaments.

Singh has denied all the allegations. Delhi police are investigating and will submit their findings before a trial court on Thursday.

“I will not comment on the allegations. I am waiting for the court order on this case,” Singh told reporters at the Sunday gathering near his political constituency in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

Clad in a saffron robe and turban typically worn by Hindu monks, Singh told a crowd of supporters in scorching heat that he would continue to implement policies introduced by Modi and was committed to serving the people.

Attendees shouted “long live our lawmaker” and “we stand with you” as they gathered for the rally.

Singh, a six-term member of parliament, also runs about 50 private educational centers in and around his political constituency.

He has been the president of the Wrestling Federation of India for nearly a decade. His son is a local lawmaker and also an official at the federation.

The accusations sparked protests by India’s top wrestlers and other athletes, at times drawing a heavy-handed response from authorities who briefly detained or forcibly dispersed the participants.

Images of athletes being dragged away and carried off in buses went viral, sparking criticism from leading athletes and opposition politicians. Wrestlers eventually secured meetings with government ministers after threatening to throw their medals into the Ganges River.

The incidents have shone a spotlight on the government’s response to criminal complaints against an influential member of Modi’s ruling party and spurred Delhi police to open two investigations against Singh in April, including one under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Global sports organisations have also weighed in on the case.

United World Wrestling, the sport’s international governing body, issued a statement condemning the brief detentions of wrestlers during protests and criticised a lack of results in the investigations against Singh.

This month, Sport and Rights Alliance, a global coalition of non-governmental organisations that promotes human rights in sports, urged the International Olympic Committee to ensure a transparent, independent, and impartial investigation into the allegations.

“It takes a lot of courage to break the silence and disclose a case of sexual abuse,” network coordinator Joanna Maranhao said.

Indian wrestler to return honour in protest over sport's new president

A top Indian male wrestler is returning one of the country's highest civilian awards in protest over the election of a president to the sport's ruling body backed by his predecessor, who is accused of sexually harassing female wrestlers.

Bajrang Punia, the first Indian wrestler to win four world championship medals, was awarded the Padma Shri - the fourth highest civilian award - by the Indian president in 2019 for his achievements as an athlete.

Punia on Friday shared his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media site X, saying he would "not be able to live with the respect bestowed upon him by the government of India at a time when women wrestlers have been insulted."

His decision to return the award comes a day after Sanjay Singh was elected as chair of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Singh was backed by former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh.

Brij Bhushan Singh has rejected the allegations made against him. His case is pending trial, officials from Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have said.

There was no immediate official response from the government on Punia's letter to Modi.

On Thursday, protesting female wrestlers said they were shocked that a man supported by Brij Bhushan Singh was allowed to lead the WFI. One top female wrestler, Sakshi Malik, said their protests were being overlooked and announced her retirement from the sport.

In January, Punia had joined female wrestlers' protests against Brij Bhushan Singh, who is also a federal lawmaker in the BJP. Singh was charged in June for sexually harassing six female wrestlers, stripped of administrative powers by the sports ministry and the government pledged to investigate the allegations and protect female athletes.

United World Wrestling (UWW), the sport's global governing body, suspended the WFI after the scandal.

The WFI missed the August deadline to appoint a new president, forcing Indian wrestlers to compete as neutral athletes in global events.

Opposition parties have criticised Modi's government over its response to the allegations, which have attracted global attention due to a series of scandals over the treatment of women in sport.

Sports Ministry Suspends Newly-Formed Wrestling Federation Of India Body

The Sports Ministry of India has suspended newly-formed Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) body led by Sanjay Singh. Singh, a close aide of BJP MP and former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was elected the new president of the wrestling body on Thursday. Sanjay Singh won 40 out of 47 votes in a sweeping victory over Anita Sheoran, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist who was backed by top wrestlers who had taken to the streets earlier over sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan.

Sanjay Singh has earlier served as vice-president of the Uttar Pradesh wrestling body. He was part of the WFI's last executive council and its joint secretary since 2019.

The decision was taken over 'hasty' announcements of national competitions and the sports ministry said that the move was made without 'following the provisions of the constitution of WFI'.

"Such decisions are to be taken by Executive Committee, before which agendas are required to be placed for consideration. As per Article XI of the WFI constitution under the Heading ‘Notices and Quorum for Meetings', minimum notice period for EC meeting is 15 clear days and quorum is of 1/3rd of representatives. Even for Emergency EC meeting, minimum notice period is 7 clear days with quorum requirement of 1/3rd of representatives." Sports Ministry said in a press release.

In the release, the Sports Ministry further alleged that the newly-formed body seems to be completely in control of previous office bearers against whom allegations of sexual harassment was made.

"Newly elected body appears to be in complete control of former office bearers in complete disregard to the Sports Code," the ministry said in the press release.

"The business of the Federation is being run from the premises controlled by former office bearers. Which is also alleged premises wherein sexual harassment of the players have been alleged and present the court is hearing the matter," it further added.

What evidence? Where is the evidence?

Right now these athletes are protesting because the newly elected WFI President is a friend of BBS and because he defeated the Deepender Hooda supported candidate.

Vinesh Phogat overcomes all odds to storm into Paris Olympics final, confirms medal

Vinesh Phogat is in an Olympic final. Even in an Olympic year, that's one of the most amazing storylines you'll read.

After the last 18 months she's had, after the Olympic heartbreaks she has had, Vinesh Phogat will be fighting for gold in the Paris Olympics. And she got there in some style, beating down upon Yusneylis Guzman Lopez of Cuba in the semifinal in a most emphatic manner to win 5-0.

It capped an extraordinary day, that began with her pulling off a stunning upset to beat reigning Olympic champion Yui Susaki (who has only been beaten three times in her career) and then Ukraine's Oksana Livach in the quarterfinal.

The final will be on Wednesday night.

In the first round, the two wrestlers were cautious, circling each other but with Vinesh controlling the flow, Lopez was handed a passivity warning and then put under a clock. After not being able to mount an attack in those 30 seconds, Vinesh was awarded the first point of the match.

The match remained cagey till the final two minutes, when Vinesh was given a passivity warning. This saw Vinesh fly into top gear. A takedown brought her two points, and an immediate flip brought two more. With the score at 5-0, Vinesh expertly managed the remaining thirty-odd seconds to absolutely storm into the final. It's made even more impressive considering how she got there.

Vinesh started her campaign with a stunning win over defending champion Yui Susaki. The Japanese wrestler had not lost an international bout in her professional career -- losing thrice before this in ten years, all to compatriot Yuki Irie -- but Vinesh undid her with a superb tactical game. Defending for 5 minutes and 45 seconds of the 6-minute bout, she kept Yui Susaki at bay conceding two passivity points but not worrying one bit about the 2-0 lead she had conceded. In the last 15 seconds, Vinesh brought out her direct attack.

Traditionally an attacking wrestler Vinesh had shown remarkable patience, but she brought out her A game in the last 15 seconds to push Susaki off balance and flip her onto the mat. Two points, and on countback Vinesh was the victor. Susaki challenged, but to no avail, and ended up losing 3-2. Vinesh celebrated the win like it was a medal round, as well she might. Susaki's stunned face at the end said it all -- many had thought Susaki was unbeatable at this (or any) level, but Vinesh had proven them all wrong.

In the quarterfinal, she took on Ukraine's Oksana Livach and went back to her usual strategy. Attacking from the off, she took a 2-0 lead in the first half. She came out attacking and went 4-0 up before a Livach attack made it 4-2, then a solid hold gave her 5-2 edge which she extended to 7-2 with some sensational attacking. Livach went all out in desperation but could only push the score to 7-5 as Vinesh held her at arm's length with relative ease.

Absolutely shameless BJP bhakts were criticising the legitimate protests of these wrestlers and trying to muddy the issue.

Even if phogat had not won the medal, their grievances were justified. But Phogat has given a huge chappal to the IT cell who automatically call any protest as motivated conspiracy

I m supporting vinisha, but don’t like her support/agitations/ dharna.. sportsman 1st duty is to play sport… in case of Kulbhushan controversy, when the FIR is filed then that case was pending before law.let the law takes its own course. But our wrestlers wanted BJP government to take immediate decision which was totally unlawful demand

Very naive statement, Where did the law go?

and we can appreciate the deafening support of Modi ji's silence in something that mattered at national level. F. A random rape case in a village in Bengal or UP gets Modi ji's attention and mention in speeches, but this wrestling protest was as if happening on Mars! If National sporting heroes can't get a hearing from our Modi ji, who can??

Here is Modi ji, in his own words:

Modi ji couldn't wait for the law to take its course in Sandeshkhali? Any such concern for Wrestling players who had won glory for India.... naaaah .

Jahaan Dogalapan hai, let's accept it wahaan dogalapan hai!
Desh Bhakt bano, Andh Bhakt nahi!

Even her visa was done after intervention of MEA and sports ministry.

Im not a blind supporters like BJP fanbase .

I will choose the country first no matter what .

There is reason why BJP supporters known as " Andh bhakt" .

Sorry babu
:kp

Who told you BJP supporters will not choose country over BJP?

Its congress and leftists who are known to choose the family over nation.

Was law taking course in Sandeskhali?

The high court had to intervene.

I am just straining myself to find any comment for or against by Modi ji regarding the wrestling protests, that's all!
Law taking course is a strawman argument being thrown around when we are supposed to have a pro-active national leader. Where it is a failure of Modi , it is a failure. Every action or inaction of Modi need not be defended.

Again, Desh bhakt Bano, Andh Bhakt nahi.
I defend Modi where his steps I feel are right, but also have an open mind to criticize where he failed as a leader.

India isn’t a facist nation, Indians have full trust in judiciary system. India alliance leaders provoked and mislead these athletes to stage agitation..

On the contrary, India alliance leader should not celebrate Vinisha’s victory as they mislead these athletes to stage agitation/ demonstrations for their own political mileage.

India alliance leaders and their supporters always trying to divide India on the basis of Religion, Caste, reservation, economy, sports etc.

It'll be ultimate fun seeing Brijbhushan's secretary - the current head of the Wrestling Federation of India try to get on stage with her to share in the glory of the wrestling medal for India.

At the end of the day, the glory is for India. Domestic disputes should be handled at internal level and not broadcasted to outsiders who will just have their own "schadenfreude" moments at any crisis in India. I would prefer peaceful structural changes at WFI and other federations in the background away from the social media amplification!

100% politics behind Vinesh disqualification .

100 gm weight could have lost due to not drinking water .it was a coach failure
@Rajdeep what's your take?

our politicians made some overnight calls it seems as if she won.it would reflect badly on them...they never cared about the country

And we know which shameless party those politicians belong.

lol..ya Modi called IOC to ask them to disqualify her..if she is unprofessional what can Olymic body do

Deep state politics ruined a gold medal opportunity for Bharat. Sad

I don't think there is a conspiracy. The medal stakes are so huge, no one would sabotage her chances even the government or wrestling federation.

Maybe some water retention issues.

What? I don't even know who is she. I don't follow Olympics, especially Indian games. Apart from cricket, I mostly follow and support Great Britain in other sports :boycott

Only for cricket and Modi ji, I become hard core Indian.

:kp

Vinesh Phogat father in law Rajpal Rathi blames Indian wrestling federation for disqualification of Vinesh Phogat on live Tv ( ABP news)

I was reading in other forum where liberal Bhartiyas were blaming Modi ji for WC finals loss but were crediting RaGa for winning WT20

:kp :uakmal

And andhbhakt statred to celebrate Vignesh disqualified on social media .
Use the " Dabdaba" caption and you find how shameless they are .

A BJP sympathizer on her training staff might added some extra ghee in her dinner to sabotage her chances.
