This is something which has not been discussed much here as yet. But from what little I have seen of Rohit (Mainly in IPL) he might actually be a better captain than Kholi. And if he is does that increase India's chances in the Asia Cup? Lets discuss

No..it doesnt matter who the captain is. The Indian ODI team can win with a chimpanzee in charge..
Then what about if Rohit is captain?
I feel this tournament is the biggest test of Rohit Sharma as a Captain and as a Batsman . This team will be over dependent on Dhawan and Rohit . Without Kohli the pressure on these two is much more . Rohit Sharma is a fantastic captain in IPL (one of the finest along with Dhoni and Gambhir) but this will be the most difficult challenge .
I disagree India will be over reliant on the top two, I think rahul is a world class talent. And Dhoni in Asia (low bounce conditions) is still a beast.

Was thinking on similar lines. Yes their chances have improved. We have to be honest with ourselves. When it comes to winning important series and tournaments, Kohli's blunders in captaincy outshines the runs he scores as a batsman.
2016 world T20, CT 2017, series vs SA, series vs England all major series/tournaments where Kohli's captaincy has led his team down in crucial situations. With the team India had, they should have won atleast 2 out of these 4. You cannot be unlucky all the time.

oops yes sorry, Kohli was the star performer.
We have to accept the reality. India is no. 2 and we are no. 5 but the difference in qualities and talent are huge. In batting we heavily rely on Fakhar (sole heater) and Babar (accumulator) and bowling depend on entirely Hasan Ali. Amir's performance is just like Afridi. Once in a blue moon.
This thread is about India's chances, Regarding Pak they cant lose from where I see it. Atleast 6 of Pakistan starting 11 are just at the start of their careers and playing top dogs of the world can only improve them. Its a team with potential as its.

as I said, he will do fine..they are favourites for the trophy and I wont be surprised if they win it easily..

Captain Kohli won ODI series in SAF 5-1, had one bad day in CT Final, and crashed almost every thing at home (In ODI also). People should realize that RSharma leads IND only where they feel Kohli isn't required. Making RS captain will divide the team, rather than uniting it.

Another important factor which everyone failed to mention, none of these Indian players (excluding Dhoni) has ever played international cricket in Dubai. So this will be a new exp for them and without any practice match, not sure how would they cope. On the other hand, Pak plays there like every 2nd day.
This point has actually been acknowledged by some Pak player in interviews where they have said they will have the advantage of knowing the conditions better.

I feel kohli the batsman will be missed but the captain it's good that we are missing him. But there is nothing that could have been done and i would be happy to see youngster getting chance to shine for india.

I dont watch IPL, but Sharma has always comes across to me as not being the sharpest.
Rahane is the one I have been impressed by, dont know if he is in the squad though

Rohit is a good captain but not having Kohli is a big blow . His presence is a big thing for the Indian team. India have a good record in LO under Kohli as well.
