Gujarat: Four killed after truck rams into road roller at overbridge in Sabarkantha​


Police have registered a case against the truck driver, who escaped after the crash. Officials said an investigation is underway to trace the absconding driver.​


Sabarkantha (Gujarat) :
As many as four persons, including an engineer, lost their lives when a fast-moving truck crashed into a road roller on a highway overbridge in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha. As per police, the incident took place on Wednesday near a hotel close to the Motipura industrial area.


According to the FIR filed at the A Division police station, the truck collided with a road roller that was being used for repair work on the national highway. The impact of the crash was so severe that all four victims died on the spot.

Those killed were identified as engineer Asim Majmudar from West Bengal and three contractual workers — Somabhai Nayak, Bhemabhai Nayak and Raghubhai Nayak — all from Mahisagar district in Gujarat. The driver of the road roller, Sahed Babulal, suffered injuries.

The complaint was lodged by the son of Somabhai Nayak. He stated that his family had been employed as labourers on the Udaipur–Ahmedabad Highway for the past year. On the night of the accident, most family members had gone home, while his father and a few others stayed back to fix potholes.

Police have registered a case against the truck driver, who escaped after the crash. He has been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 106(1) for causing death by negligence, 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, 281 for rash driving, and 125(A) for endangering life or personal safety. Relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, have also been applied.

Officials said an investigation is under way to trace the absconding driver.

Karnataka IAS, two others killed in road accident​

Earlier on Tuesday, IAS officer Mahantesh Bilagi and two of his relatives died after their car crashed into a divider and overturned in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi

Police reported that KSMCL Managing Director Mahantesh Bilagi was traveling to a relative’s wedding when his vehicle met with an accident near Gounahalli in Kalaburagi district. The crash claimed the lives of Bilagi and his relatives, Shankar Bilagi and Eranna Bilagi.

Expressing his sorrow, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he was deeply grieved by Bilagi’s demise.

Rohtak road accident: The incident happened around 8 am in the morning when a bus collided with a truck on the Highway 152D. At least 10 to 12 vehicles were involved in the accident, causing a massive pile-up on the highway.​

A major accident was reported Highway 152D, also called the Trans-Haryana Expressway near the Kharkara village in Haryana's Rohtak district after several vehicles, including trucks, buses and cars, collided with each other due to a dense fog that had reduced visibility in the area. The incident left at least two people dead and 25 others injured.

The incident happened around 8 am in the morning when a bus collided with a truck on the Highway 152D, which connects Ambala to Narnaul. At least 10 to 12 vehicles were involved in the accident, causing a massive pile-up on the highway. The injured have been admitted to the PGI Rohtak for treatment and officials are present at the spot for the rescue operation.

Bus-truck collision in Jhajjar​

A similar incident has also been reported on the Rewari Road in Jhajjar earlier in the day after a bus collided with a truck due to dense fog in the area. The accident occurred between Kulana and Gurawada villages when the bus driver couldn't see the truck standing on the road and collided with it, leaving him seriously injured.

The bus, which war carrying around 50 passengers, was travelling to Haryana's Bahadurgarh from Rajasthan's Khatu Shyam. Several passengers also suffered some minor injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the bus has been referred to PGI Jhajjar for treatment.

IMD's cold wave alert for Haryana​

Like most of parts of North India, Haryana has been experiencing a severe cold wave for the past few days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for the state and forecasted a drop in temperatures in many parts of Haryana. Severe fog is also expected in some parts, asking people to remain cautious while driving in affected areas.

Meanwhile, severe fog has also been reported in other parts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, on Sunday.

20 dead, several injured as truck collides with passenger bus in Telangana; PM Modi announces ex-gratia​


20 people died and many were injured in a road accident in Telangana’s Chevella. A gravel-laden lorry rammed into an RTC bus traveling from Tandur to Hyderabad early on Monday.​

At least 20 people were killed and several others were injured after a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus collided head-on with a tipper lorry carrying gravel near Mirzaguda village in Chevella, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, early Monday morning. According to police, the accident occurred around 5 am when the bus, which had started its journey from Tandur to Hyderabad, was hit by a gravel-loaded tipper lorry coming from the opposite direction.

"A road accident occurred between a TGSRTC bus and a truck near Khanapur Gate, under the Chevella police station limits in Rangareddy district. Several passengers are injured, and more details are yet to be known. This incident happened early this morning. We reached the spot, and more details will be provided later," ANI quoted Chevella Police as saying.

Transport minister expresses shock ​

Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed deep shock and grief over the tragic road accident.

In an official statement, the minister said he had spoken to TGSRTC Managing Director Nagi Reddy and the Rangareddy District Collector, directing them to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment. He also instructed TGSRTC officials to reach the accident site immediately and oversee rescue and relief operations.

PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakhs ex-gratia ​

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the tragic road accident near Mirjaguda in Chevella mandal of Rangareddy district. The PM has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to be given to the next of kin of each deceased individual. The injured individuals will be provided with a sum of Rs 50,000 as per an official release.

15 dead as tempo traveller crashes into trailer in Rajasthan ​

This comes a day after, at least 15 people lost their lives and several others were critically injured when a tempo traveller vehicle carrying pilgrims rammed into a stationary trailer in the Matoda area of Phalodi district in Rajasthan. The pilgrims, believed to be members of the Mali community from Sursagar in Jodhpur, were returning after visiting the Kolayat Temple in Bikaner.

According to police, the accident took place when the tempo traveller, heading back to Jodhpur, crashed into a parked trailer on the roadside near Matoda village. The impact was massive, reducing the front portion of the vehicle to mangled metal and trapping several passengers inside. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was travelling at a high speed in low visibility conditions when the driver failed to notice the stationary trailer. Local residents and other motorists rushed to the scene and helped pull out victims before emergency services arrived.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed profound sorrow over the tragic road accident in Phalodi that claimed several lives. He spoke to the district collector, superintendent of police, and other senior officials over the phone, directing them to ensure that the injured are rushed to hospitals through a green corridor for immediate treatment. The Chief Minister also instructed officials to provide the best possible medical care to all those injured in the incident.

President Murmu offers condolences in Phalodi road accident​

President Droupadi Murmu offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in a road accident in Rajasthan's Phalodi."The news of the deaths of many people in the road accident that occurred in Phalodi, Rajasthan, is extremely heartbreaking. I express my condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy and pray for the swift recovery of those who have been injured," President Murmu posted on X. At least 15 people were killed and two others injured after a tempo-traveller coming from Kolayat, Bikaner, collided with a parked trailer on the Bharat Mala Highway in Phalodi, officials said on Sunday.

In a reckless and dangerous incident, an autorickshaw overturned on Bengaluru’s Hosur Road while trying to overtake a truck. In a video making the rounds on the internet, the speeding auto is seen passing a truck before losing balance and overturning onto its side.

The post was captioned, “Auto Rickshaw Flips After Reckless Overtaking Attempt – Hosur Road, Bengaluru!” The post added that the rickshaw was moving fast and, during the overtaking attempt, the driver suddenly applied the brakes, causing the vehicle to lose balance and flip over on the road.
“The auto skidded across the surface before coming to a stop.Thankfully, there were no serious injuries, but the incident could have ended in tragedy,” it added.


The video gathered around 2000 views on X, with one of the users saying, “This is why exactly autos and bikes should not be allowed on highways. It could have been a fatal chain of accidental crashes if it was a highway.”

In a similar incident last month, a goods vehicle ran over two women walking along Mill Road, killing one of them on the spot. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Anjadevi, a resident of Cottonpete, died instantly in the horrific accident.

As more than 16 hours have passed with people being stuck on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the police are still trying to ease the traffic movement. The massive traffic jam, which can be seen for more than 10 kilometres, was created after a gas tanker overturned in the Khandala Ghat section on Tuesday evening (January 3). Moreover, the leakage has still not stopped after almost a day.

The leakage by the gas tanker, which overturned, has not stopped yet. The accident occurred around 5 pm on Tuesday near the Adoshi tunnel in Raigad district when the tanker, allegedly travelling at high speed, lost control on a slope and overturned. The vehicle was carrying propylene gas, which is highly flammable.

People Complain of Lack of Communication from the Official​


The commuters are trapped inside their vehicles for the last 10 hours. Notably, usually it takes 3-4 hours from Pune to Mumbai, but today, it is taking more than 10 hours to travel.
Moreover, the people are complaining about the lack of communication from official and hence they are unable to plan their travel. The commuters also complained that no food or water is available, and they are just getting little help from the authorities.

Rs. 3,000 Crore Road Repair Drive to Make AP Pothole-Free

Under Mission Pothole-Free Andhra Pradesh, road works covering 20,060 km were taken up during 2024–25 at a cost of Rs.861 crore, with works currently in progress.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has set a target of making roads across the state pothole-free, with major repair works scheduled to be completed by the end of January, roads and buildings, infrastructure and investments minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy said on Tuesday. Addressing a media conference at the Secretariat in Velagapudi, the minister said the government had sanctioned ₹3,000 crore for the repair and development of 10,294 km of roads across the State. He said road infrastructure had been accorded top priority since the coalition government assumed office, with funds released in a timely manner to accelerate works.

Under Mission Pothole-Free Andhra Pradesh, road works covering 20,060 km were taken up during 2024–25 at a cost of Rs.861 crore, with works currently in progress. For 2025–26, the government sanctioned ₹2,500 crore to restore and upgrade 6,035 km of roads damaged by heavy rains and cyclones such as Montha and Ditwa. Proposals seeking an additional `500 crore for repairs to 4,259 km of Major District Roads (MDRs) and State Highways have been submitted to the finance department.

The minister said `400 crore in assistance had been secured from NABARD to improve 191 MDRs spanning 1,250 km. Of these, 52 works have been completed and 132 are in progress. Under the State Highway Development Plan, tenders have been awarded for 139 works covering 856 km at an estimated cost of ₹400 crore, with most works under way. MDR works under various schemes are targeted for completion by March 2026, while additional MDR and State Highway projects worth ₹1,000 crore are expected to be completed by May 2026.

To improve connectivity, 85 roads linking villages with mandal and district headquarters are being upgraded under the NDB scheme, with 682 km being widened from single-lane to two-lane roads. On future expansion, Janardhan Reddy said the State was exploring PPP, BOT and Hybrid Annuity models to widen 20 high-traffic State Highways. He clarified that tolls would not be levied on two-wheelers, autorickshaws or tractors, and would apply only to cars and goods vehicles. Government Special Chief Secretary M T Krishnababu said toll charges would be people-friendly and announced that works on the Guntur–Tulluru road, sanctioned at ₹8.5 crore, would commence shortly. He added that tenders had been floated for 85 per cent of the ₹3,000-crore road works and that enhanced monitoring mechanisms had been put in place.

A day after a rider died in Rohini, a Times Now ground report exposed multiple safety lapses at the site of the tragedy. Residents cited non-functional streetlights, open drains without barricades, and a dangerous blind turn near waterlogged land. Locals say the poorly lit stretch becomes hazardous after dark, posing serious accident risks.


A day after a rider died after falling into an open drain in Delhi's Rohini, Times Now's ground report found multiple safety failures at the site of last night's terrifying manhole incident. Even after the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) quickly covered the dangerous manhole following the mishap, locals paint a grim picture of ongoing risks that turn this stretch into a nightmare after dark.

What Residents Revealed​


Residents complained that street lights along the entire patch have been out of order for weeks, plunging the area into complete darkness. "Walking here at night feels like stepping into a black hole – you can't see a thing," says one frustrated local.

Just a few metres away from the manhole lies an open drain, dug 3-4 feet deep, with no barriers or covers in sight. It's a clear accident waiting to happen, especially for children, the elderly, or anyone in a hurry, the resident said.

"We are too scared to pass through this route after sunset," another resident told Times Now. "There are several such open drains scattered around, left uncovered and forgotten. One wrong step, and it's a disaster.”

The complaints revealed lapses on multiple levels in Rohini Sector 32, where the rider fell into an open drain in Delhi.
The residents also stressed that the Colony road comes to a dead end, leading to a water-filled open land, adding, "Blind 90° turn with no fencing, barricades or signboard. Only one single street on the entire road."

The man Birju Kumar Rai fell into the manhole when he was returning to his place with a friend, Budhan Das, also known as Suraj. They both had consumed alcohol on Monday night when the incident happened. Suraj told police that around 7:30 pm on Monday, Birju lost balance and fell into an open manhole. However, Suraj did not inform anyone at night as he was drunk, but later he told another friend, Amir Hussain.
On Tuesday, around 2:36 pm, the police received a report of a missing person, suspected of falling into a sewer on vacant DDA land in Sector 32, Rohini.
"Police rushed to the spot, where caller Amir Hussain stated that his friend Budhan Das, both labourers, had consumed alcohol last night, and at about 07:30 PM, Birju lost his control and fell into the manhole while they were returning to their jhuggi nearby," the police told ANI news agency.

Mother seeks justice as 23-year-old dies in reckless SUV crash in Delhi: 'This is criminal activity'​

Mother of Sahil Dhaneshra, a 23-year-old youth who was killed in a road accident in Delhi’s Dwarka, has appealed for justice. Inna Makan said that her son was hit by a speeding SUV when he was going to his office. She said the accused driver, who is a minor, stepped out of his house to make reels and was performing stunts on the road.

She said it was a criminal act and the accused, who has been granted bail, should be brought to justice.

“My son was going to the office on the 3rd of February...He (Scorpio driver), along with his sister, was out on his Scorpio to make fun reels. The speed with which the Scorpio is being driven is clearly visible in the reel...He (Scorpio driver) was driving in the opposite lane and came right in front of the bus and performed a stunt...My son looked to the right to see whether there was space. Because there was an e-rickshaw on the left side of the bus...The Scorpio collided with the motorcycle and hit the roadside parked car. The Scorpio driver did not apply the brakes after the collision. Even a cab driver has been seriously injured in the accident...This is a criminal activity,” she said.

Accused has several over-speeding challans​

Inna stated that the accused’s father failed to restrain him despite his being a minor and having multiple over-speeding challans against his name. She added that the presence of such individuals on the road has made roads increasingly unsafe.

“Some people think that they can do anything on the road because their parents are wealthy, this is a criminal mentality...This is not just an accident. My son died due to their fun reel...There are already many over-speeding challans against him (Scorpio), yet his father did not stop him from driving...I want justice for my son...No one is safe on the road due to people like them...Strict action should be taken against them...He (Scorpio driver) does not even have a license," she added.


About the case​

A major road accident came to the fore after a PCR call was received on February 3 at about 11:57 am regarding a fatal road accident near Lal Bahadur Shastri College. When the police reached the spot, they found three vehicles in damaged condition: a Scorpio car, a Dzire car and a motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider, Sahil Dhaneshra (23), was found dead at the scene. The taxi driver, Ajit Singh, who was injured in the accident, was taken to IGI Hospital for treatment. His statement has been recorded by the police, and the final medical opinion (MLC) is still awaited.

The Scorpio was driven by Akshatra Singh, aged 17 years. He did not have a driving licence. Since he is a minor, he was apprehended and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. He was sent to an observation home and later granted interim bail on February 10 so that he could appear in his Class 10 board examinations. Akshatra's father was also arrested in the case.

During investigation, all three vehicles were seized and inspected. Their documents were checked, and CCTV footage from the area was collected. As per the investigation so far, the Scorpio car first hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction and then struck the Dzire car that was parked on the roadside.

An FIR was registered in the case at Dwarka South Police Station.

'Paying crores for holes in wall': Mumbai woman's video on skyscrapers sparks debate​


A Mumbai woman's viral reel calling homes “holes in the wall” sparked debate on overcrowding, migration and real estate. ​


A Mumbai woman’s video showing rows of towering residential buildings and commenting on the city’s growing population has sparked a debate online about migration, real estate and urban planning.

In the Instagram reel, user Jayantika filmed construction activity around her and pointed to multiple high-rise blocks. She noted that there were “easily around a thousand people living in that block alone,” with another thousand likely to occupy a new tower under construction. She said that the view made her realise “how overcrowded Mumbai really is”.

Criticising the steep cost of housing, she remarked that people were “paying crores and crores of rupees for just a hole in the wall” - a statement that quickly caught the internet’s attention.

The clip has garnered nearly 2 million views and more than 32,000 likes.

As the video gained traction, a section of users began attacking her, accusing her of being a migrant with no right to comment on the city’s culture or real-estate landscape. Several even urged her to “go back” to her hometown.


Responding to the hostility, Jayantika clarified her roots. “Guys, stop telling me to ‘go back’. I’m a Maharashtrian from Mumbai, for god’s sake. This is my ‘back’,” she wrote.

Not everyone agreed with her assessment of Mumbai’s housing crisis. One user argued, “No, you aren’t paying crores for a hole in the wall. You are paying crores to live in a city that gives unparalleled opportunities. If you haven’t secured that opportunity, life will be hell for you. This city is for the people who want to make it big and have the drive to achieve the heights in their life.”

Others, however, defended her observations and said they reflected deeper economic contradictions. “This is not a population problem, this is a distribution problem,” one comment read, blaming affluent buyers for hoarding property and turning housing into long-term rental assets.

Another user echoed the affordability concern, writing, “It is literally crores of rupees for a pocket of air. No land value.”

Some commenters broadened the discussion to infrastructure and urban expansion. “Need other cities to develop. Mumbai is fully saturated,” one person wrote, while another said migration was “getting out of hands” in a city with limited housing space and strained transport systems.

An out-of-control truck plowed into a group of Chauth Mata pilgrims walking on foot, then flipped over, crushing victims under its load of cotton. Chaos ensued as locals mounted a desperate rescue, with police now probing the driver's role in the tragedy.


The chaotic crash: Pilgrims killed in broad daylight​

The incident unfolded near Papdi Bridge under Dei Kheda thana limits, where devout Chauth Mata yatris were proceeding on foot- a common pilgrimage ritual. Suddenly, a heavily loaded truck veered off course, slamming into the group before careening out of control and overturning.

Two pilgrims died instantly under the wheels, their bodies mangled in the impact. As the cotton-laden vehicle flipped, it trapped more victims beneath, amplifying the death toll to three during frantic extrication efforts. Eyewitnesses described a scene of pandemonium, with screams echoing as bystanders rushed to help.

Lok Sabha speaker expresses grief, visits hospital ​

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla said, "This accident was avoidable, as all the devotees were heading to Chauth Mata Mandir, which attracts many pilgrims. I was present at the scene. A dedicated corridor should be constructed for these pilgrims to ensure their safety on the way. The injured are currently receiving treatment. We will also support the families of the deceased and their children. Such incidents cause widespread grief."

IG (Kota Range) Rajendra Prasad Goyal said, "A very tragic incident occurred today in which 3 people lost their lives, and 8 were injured. The injured are receiving proper treatment. The District Collector is also monitoring the situation, and I, along with the highway team, will visit the site to investigate whether the accident was caused by any technical flaws, so that such an incident does not happen again in the future. We are conducting a thorough investigation and have received instructions from higher authorities to deploy five to eight police patrol vehicles to create a safe passage for pedestrians, as there is heavy fog in the area at this time. Further efforts are underway to ensure pedestrian safety and prevent similar accidents."

A case has been registered, and the investigation is underway.

A hit-and-run incident occurred in Telangana's Hyderabad on Tuesday during a routine traffic check, when a speeding biker rammed into a traffic home guard on Bahadurpura Road, leaving him injured and prompting an immediate police hunt to track down the offender.

The injured home guard was identified as 40-year-old Jangaiah. Posted at the Falaknuma Traffic Police Station, he was placing barricades on the road to set up a check post when a fast-approaching biker crashed into him and fled the spot. As per the information, the sudden impact left the officer injured, following which he was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police register case and begin manhunt​

Meanwhile, the Bahadurpura Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Efforts are underway to identify the biker through CCTV footage and witness accounts. Police teams have intensified their search and are working to ensure the accused is traced and arrested soon, officials said.

Auto-rickshaw driver caught for drunken driving threatens traffic cops​

Earlier this month, an auto-rickshaw driver allegedly threatened traffic police personnel with a dead snake in Hyderabad after he was caught for drunken driving, police said. The incident happened on Saturday (January 3) in an area under Chandrayangutta Traffic Police Station limits when the driver was found driving the three-wheeler in a "drunken" state during a checking. A case was registered against the driver, a police official said. The traffic personnel took the auto-rickshaw in "safe custody" and told him to take out his belongings from the vehicle when he suddenly took out the dead snake and tried to threaten the personnel demanding to not to register case and release his auto, the official said.

6 Arrested For Performing Car 'Stunts' On Gurugram Road​


According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday night on Sector-85 Road when a man riding behind the offending vehicle made the video of the stunts being performed by the accused.​


Police have arrested six people after a video purportedly showing them performing stunts on the roof of an SUV while driving surfaced online, officials said on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Shaukeen (33), Manish (32), Lokesh (24), Subhash (39), Vikas (29) and Saleem (35), police said.

According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday night on Sector-85 Road when a man riding behind the offending vehicle made the video of the stunts being performed by the accused. It showed one of the accused coming out of the window of a black Scorpio and climbing onto the roof of the moving vehicle. He was later joined by other companions.

The video was widely shared on social media, and an FIR was registered at Kherki Daula police station on Monday.

The accused were arrested on Tuesday. "During interrogation, the accused revealed that Shaukeen works in Daulatabad as a building material dealer, and the other accused also works in the building material business," the Gurugram police spokesperson said.

The accused were returning from a party and were going to Shaukeen's office in Daulatabad in his car when they performed stunts on the expressway. Further investigation is underway, the spokesperson added.

A traffic volunteer was arrested in Shillong after a video went viral, showing him allegedly forcing a visitor from Assam's Silchar to cough up Rs 15,000 as "fine" for driving his car into a no-entry zone.

After the old Maruti 800 car entered the no-entry zone in the Madanrting area of the city, the home guard volunteer attached to the Traffic Department signalled the driver to stop. As the car did not stop, the volunteer pursued it on a motorbike and intercepted it.

In the video, the volunteer is heard allegedly intimidating the visitors and demanding money, saying in broken Hindi, "Lakh lakh ka fine hai, kitna de sakta? Agar amount hoga to hum bolega, hoga nahi to case pe daal dega," implying that a heavy fine would be imposed unless cash was paid on the spot.

The volunteer, who initially demanded about Rs 1 lakh, climbed down to Rs 17,000 after negotiations. He then took the driver to an ATM and finally let him go after he paid Rs 15,000.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, following which the police swung into action.

East Khasi Hills District SP Vivek Syiem said the traffic volunteer was arrested following an inquiry.

"The person concerned was a casual employee. Seeking or accepting cash from traffic violators is illegal," he said.

6 Killed, 3 Injured After Truck Rams 2 Autorickshaws In UP's Agra​


Police said the speeding container truck first hit one of the autorickshaws and then the other.​



Agra:
Six people were killed and three injured when a container truck collided head-on with two autorickshaws in the Khandauli police station area of Agra on Saturday, police said.

According to police, the victims, all residents of Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district, were returning from a pilgrimage to the Jagannath temple in Odisha's Puri. After getting off their train at the Agra Cantonment railway station, they were on their way home in the autorickshaws when the accident occurred.

Police said the speeding container truck first hit one of the autorickshaws and then the other. The collision was so severe that both autorickshaws were badly damaged and there were screams of panic at the scene. Police sent the injured to a nearby hospital in ambulances.

Additional Commissioner of Police Ram Badan Singh said autorickshaw driver Shahid (40) and passengers Ranveer (65), Braj Mohan (53), Lakhmi Chand (70), Billo Mistri (53) and Udayveer (64) were killed on the spot.

Three injured persons are undergoing treatment, he added.

Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem.

The truck driver has been detained and the vehicle seized, Singh said.

SUV Driven By 20-Year-Old Runs Over 14-Month-Old Boy In Delhi​


"The child sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Burari Hospital, where doctors declared him dead," a senior police officer said.​


New Delhi:
An infant was killed, allegedly after being hit by an SUV in outer Delhi's Samaypur Badli area, police said on Monday.

The incident took place around 4 pm on Sunday near Balaji Nursery on the Siras Pur Road, when the vehicle, being driven by a 20-year-old man, hit the 14-month-old baby, the police said.

"The victim's mother was standing by the road with her son when the speeding vehicle struck the boy. The child sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Burari Hospital, where doctors declared him dead," a senior police officer said.

A case has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the officer added.

The driver, Samar Choudhary, a resident of Rohini, has been arrested, and the offending vehicle has been seized, police said. Further investigation is underway.

Cop Among 7 Killed In 3 Separate Road Accidents In Uttar Pradesh: Police​

Seven people, including a police constable and his wife, were killed in separate road accidents on the Delhi-Dehradun national highway in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar in the last 24 hours, police said on Tuesday.

Constable Sudhir Kumar (28) and his wife Sonia (26) were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a truck on Tuesday. Due to the collision, a portion of the truck caught fire and the couple were trapped under the vehicle, they said.

A fire brigade was rushed to the spot to control the blaze. Mr Kumar was posted in Moradabad district, Circle Officer (Nai Mandi) Rupali Rao said.

The truck driver fled the scene. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, police said.

In the second incident, Ishwar Dayal (25) and Sandeep Verma (28) were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding unidentified vehicle near a Mahindra showroom under the Mansurpur police station area on Tuesday, police said.

Mr Dayal and Mr Verma were travelling from Muzaffarnagar to Khatauli when the accident occurred. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Circle Officer Ramashish Yadav said.

In the third incident, three men -- Sorabh Pal (26), Daksh Saini (25) and Krishan (23) -- died after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck near Mansurpur distillery late Monday night. The truck driver managed to escape, he said.

Police said all three incidents are being investigated and efforts are being made to arrest the drivers involved in the hit-and-run cases

4 College Students And A Driver Killed In Car Crash On Kanpur Flyover​

Four students of a private college were among five killed when their car was crushed between two speeding trucks on the Ruma-Bhaunti flyover here on Monday, police said.

The incident took place while the students were on their way to their college, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Rajesh Kumar Singh said.

The bodies were brought out by cutting through the mangled car.

The deceased students have been identified as Ayushi Patel (first year of computer science), Garima Tripathi (second year computer science), Satish Kumar (third year computer science and engineering) and Prateek Singh (fourth year of electronics and communication engineering).

The identity of the driver is yet to be ascertained.

"All the four students were travelling in a car driven by a driver on way to the Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology and had hardly reached Panki when their car got sandwiched between two trucks," Singh told PTI.

The horrific accident resulted in the deaths of five persons, including four students and a driver." The drivers of both the trucks fled from the scene soon after the accident leaving the trucks behind, he said, and added that both the trucks have been seized.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem.

3 Nepalese Citizens Killed, 4 Critical As SUV Overturns In UP's Balrampur​


The four injured have been taken to the Bahraich District Hospital for treatment, police said.​

Three Nepalese citizens were killed and four others critically injured when their SUV headed to Varanasi overturned here while trying to avoid a cyclist, police said on Friday.

They said the four injured have been taken to the Bahraich District Hospital for treatment.

Tulsipur Circle Officer (CO) Brij Nandan Rai said the accident occurred in the Jarwa police station area late Thursday evening when the vehicle carrying 10 people, including the driver, from Nepal's Dang district was headed to Varanasi.

"The driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a cyclist near Nagai Basaidih village. The vehicle overturned, resulting in the immediate death of one Praveer Khatri (70)," the officer said.

Six other passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Yuvraj (38) and Dhanbali (80) succumbed to injuries during treatment and the remaining four are in critical conditions, said the officer.

Police has sent the bodies for postmortem and initiated investigations.

3 Killed, 7 Injured After Car Rams Parked Container In Rajasthan​

A tragic road accident in Jaipur claimed the lives of a mother, her son, and daughter-in-law after their speeding car rammed into a parked container truck. The collision was so severe that the front portion of the car was completely crushed, killing three of the occupants on the spot.

The accident occurred around 11 am on Tuesday on National Highway-48 near the Chandwaji police station area on the Jaipur-Delhi highway.

Seven other passengers, including women and children, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to NIMS Hospital for treatment.

The incident led to a temporary traffic jam on the busy highway. According to eyewitnesses, the car was moving at a high speed when it suddenly went out of control and crashed into the container truck parked by the roadside.

Several passengers were trapped inside the mangled vehicle and had to be rescued by locals and police.

Chandwaji SHO Hiralal Saini said the accident took place at Bilpur, about one kilometre before the Chandwaji flyover.

The car was travelling from Jaipur towards Delhi and was carrying men, women and children. Doctors at NIMS Hospital declared Pooja Singh, wife of Vivek Kumar; Basanti, wife of Harishankar; and Vivek Kumar, son of Harishankar, dead on arrival.

All three were residents of Dibulgaj in Varanasi. Due to the intensity of the collision, the car's engine was thrown out, and the front portion of the vehicle was almost split into two parts.

Seven others were left injured and they have been identified as Vikas (34), son of Harishankar, Aditi (34), wife of Vikas Kumar, Nikki (28), wife of Avadh Bihari, Sibu (2), son of Vivek Kumar, Kuku (18 months), daughter of Vikas Kumar.

All are residents of Dibulgaj, Varanasi. Two others including Anshu (19), daughter of Prem Kumar, and Deepraj (23), son of Prem Kumar, residents of Phoola, Raebareli were also injured in the mishap. Police said the family was returning after a pilgrimage to Khatushyamji.

Preliminary investigation suggests the accident may have occurred due to overspeeding and the driver possibly falling asleep at the wheel.

The damaged car and the container truck have been seized for further investigation.

Following the accident, a long traffic jam formed on NH-48, with vehicles stranded on both sides for nearly 30 minutes. Traffic was later restored gradually.

Road accidents on National Highways continue to rise across the country.

In July 2025, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Rajya Sabha that over 27,000 people lost their lives in highway accidents in the first six months of 2025 alone, highlighting the growing concern over road safety.

Delhi To Construct Foot Over Bridges At Accident-Prone Crossings For Safety​



The Public Works Department (PWD) has approved the construction of multiple foot overbridges (FOBs) at some of Delhi's most accident-prone and high-footfall locations.​



For thousands of pedestrians in Delhi, crossing a busy road often means waiting endlessly for a break in traffic or taking a risky dash across speeding vehicles. The Delhi government is now set to change that at several high-risk junctions across the city.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has approved the construction of multiple foot overbridges (FOBs) at some of Delhi's most accident-prone and high-footfall locations, a move aimed at making daily road crossings safer and more predictable.

High-Risk Crossings Identified After Traffic Studies​

According to officials, the locations were identified after traffic studies and on-ground assessments highlighted frequent accidents, heavy pedestrian movement and unsafe crossings.

Eight foot overbridges have been cleared across the capital, covering some of its busiest stretches.

Where New Foot Overbridges Will Be Constructed​



The approved sites include Madhuban Chowk on Vikas Marg-Patparganj Road, the Welcome cut on GT Road, Shahbad Dairy on the Badli-Bawana Road, Ber Sarai Market on Vedant Deshika Marg, Katwaria Sarai near LBS Sanskriti Vidyapeeth, Okhla Sabzi Mandi on Captain Gaur Marg, the Jeevan Park bus stand in Janakpuri, and Lal Singh Chowk near Mata Chanan Devi Hospital.

Officials said these areas see lakhs of pedestrians every day, including office-goers, students, patients and market visitors.

Announcing the decision, PWD Minister Parvesh Verma said the projects were aimed at addressing everyday safety concerns on Delhi's roads. He said, 'No one should risk life while crossing roads.'

"Delhi's growth demands modern solutions. No one should have to risk their life while crossing a road. These foot overbridges are being built exactly where safety concerns are highest, ensuring smoother traffic flow and secure passage for pedestrians," he said.

Construction To Begin By February 2026​

The government has fixed timelines for the projects, with construction expected to begin by February 2026.

"We are moving away from the culture of slow infrastructure. Construction will begin by February 2026 and projects will be completed within the defined timeframe. Accountability and speed are now non-negotiable," the minister said.

To prevent bottlenecks, officials said all concerned departments have been instructed to coordinate closely on site preparation, utility shifting and approvals so that work progresses simultaneously rather than in stages.

PWD To Monitor Quality And Progress​

PWD will closely track the progress of the foot overbridges, with regular reviews on timelines and construction quality. Other pedestrian infrastructure projects across Delhi will also be monitored to maintain momentum.

Relief Expected For Daily Commuters​

With lakhs of people crossing Delhi's arterial roads every day, often amid fast-moving traffic, officials said the new foot overbridges are expected to reduce risky mid-road crossings, improve pedestrian safety and ease traffic flow on busy stretches.

'Black Spots' On Google Maps To Alert Commuters Of Delhi's Accident Prone Zones​


In 2024, a total of 111 black spots were identified, recording 1,132 accidents, including 483 fatalities and 649 non-fatal crashes.​




New Delhi:
In an effort to enhance road safety in the national capital, the Delhi Traffic Police announced that it will mark all identified black spots on Google Maps, which will provide real-time alerts to commuters as they approach accident-prone areas, officials said.

They clarified that if the feature launches in 2025, it will initially showcase locations from the finalised list of black spots for the year 2024, as the annual list is compiled at the end of each year.

A black spot is a central point where accidents have occurred repeatedly within a 500-metre radius on both sides. "If a particular stretch sees frequent accidents, the midpoint of that stretch is categorised as a black spot," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters) Shive Keshari Singh told PTI.

In 2024, a total of 111 black spots were identified, recording 1,132 accidents, including 483 fatalities and 649 non-fatal crashes, according to officials.

"We are tying up with Google, and internal procedures are in progress," Singh mentioned. "If and when it goes live this year, the map will carry the 2024 black spots first. The idea is to give timely information so commuters stay alert, their drive becomes easier and safer and reduce the number of fatalities." In 2024, Azadpur Sabzi Mandi on GT Karnal Road recorded the highest number of accidents at 20, which included 11 fatal cases. Akshardham Mandir on NH-24 saw 19 accidents, eight of them fatal. Bhalswa Chowk on Outer Ring Road also recorded 19, with six listed as fatal.

ISBT Kashmere Gate recorded 17 accidents, including eight fatal ones. SGT Nagar recorded 18, with seven categorised as fatal, while Libaspur Bus Stand had 18 crashes, including six fatal ones. Anand Vihar ISBT and Rajokari Flyover each recorded 16 accidents. Near Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Dwarka, 12 accidents were recorded, seven of them fatal, while Wazirabad logged 15 accidents, nine of which were fatal.

In 2024, the top 10 black spots for accidents accounted for a total of 180 incidents. Data indicated that several corridors had multiple high-risk locations, with Outer Ring Road reporting at least 17 black spots, Ring Road having 13, and GT Karnal Road featuring 10. Other roads, such as Rohtak Road, NH-8, and Najafgarh Road, also had several black spots.

As of July 2025, an additional 25 new black spots have been identified, which collectively experienced 176 accidents, including 88 that were classified as fatal. Busy corridors such as Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, and GT Karnal Road remain prominent, while ISBT Kashmere Gate, SGT Nagar, and Hanuman Mandir in Bawana have been flagged as repeat locations.

"There can be many reasons a black spot forms, from missing or faded signage, worn zebra crossings, to poor road condition," a senior official said. "We deploy personnel at these stretches and work with road agencies to fix the engineering issues, and now we are adding a tech layer through Google Maps." The planning for this initiative is ongoing, including marking the black spot locations and coordinating with road-owning agencies to improve signage, road designs, and strategic deployment of personnel. The goal is to make Delhi's roads safer and more secure, the DCP added.

A comparison of the top 10 black spots from 2024 and 2025 reveals some overlap. ISBT Kashmere Gate, SGT Nagar, and Libaspur Bus Stand appear among the highest-risk locations for two consecutive years. Hanuman Mandir, which recorded 19 accidents in 2024, is included again, with 10 incidents already listed in 2025.

On the other hand, Swaroop Nagar features on the 2025 list but was not part of the top accident-prone locations last year. Akshardham Mandir and Wazirabad, both of which had high numbers in 2024, are currently absent from the 2025 top 10.

Man Heading To Delhi Airport To See Off Son Dies In Multi-Vehicle Collision​


Singh was heading to the Indira Gandhi International Airport to see off his son Amandeep Singh, when the accident took place, they said.​



New Delhi:
A 55-year-old man died after the taxi he was travelling in got involved in a multi-vehicle collision amid dense fog on the Urban Extension Road-II in Delhi's Dwarka early on Saturday, police said.

The man was identified as Chhaju Singh, a resident of Channuwala village in Punjab.

Singh was heading to the Indira Gandhi International Airport to see off his son Amandeep Singh, when the accident took place, they said.

According to police, a PCR call received at Baba Haridas Nagar police station early morning informed them about a road accident on Urban Extension Road-II near Jharoda Kalan.

A police team rushed to the spot and found that several vehicles had collided on the stretch from Jharoda towards IGI Airport, apparently due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog.

During inquiry, it emerged that a taxi bearing a Punjab registration number and carrying five persons including the driver, was the last in the chain of collisions.

Singh, who was seated in the taxi, suffered grievous injuries in the crash.

He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, police said.

Other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries and were provided medical assistance, though their condition was stated to be stable, officials added.

Police said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings are underway. The exact sequence of the collision is being ascertained.

The incident was reported from Ghamroj toll plaza on the outskirts of Gurugram.

The accused driver, Bharat, 39, has been arrested from Alipur, a village in North Delhi, police said.

The Thar too has been seized, police said.

Last month, Haryana top cop, OP Singh, made headlines when he said in jest that "whoever has it (Thar), he must be crazy".

"If we make a list of cops, how many will have a Thar? And whoever has it, he must be crazy ('dimaag ghuma hua hoga uska')... It's a statement. The Thar is not a car, it's a statement which says 'this is how I am'. Okay then, suffer. You can't have it both ways. You can't indulge in hooliganism and then expect not to get caught," he had told reporters.

Many instances of Thars being driven rashly and being involved in fatal accidents have been reported in the recent past.

The Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) said they don't stop all vehicles for checking, but couldn't possibly let a Thar go.

"If it's a Thar, how can we let it go? Or if it's a Bullet motorcycle... all rogue elements use these two. The choice of vehicle reflects your mindset. People who drive Thars perform stunts on the road," he had said.

Wedding celebrations in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat turned into tragedy when the groom, Subodh Kumar, was crushed to death by a speeding vehicle just moments before his wedding. The joyous atmosphere at the wedding venue collapsed into grief within seconds.

The incident occurred in the Binauli police station area. Subodh, a resident of Pichokra village, had arrived with his baraat at Saroorpur Kalan village on Sunday night, where the procession had halted at the Panchayat house for snacks and dinner.

According to relatives, Subodh stepped out of the vehicle after feeling nauseous and began vomiting on the roadside when a speeding, uncontrolled truck approached from the opposite direction and crushed him. The vehicle dragged him for several metres before fleeing the scene. Guests rushed him to a private hospital, and he was later referred to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Officials from the Binauli police station reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The officials are scanning CCTV footage from the highway and nearby areas to trace the truck driver. Police said a case will be registered and action will be taken based on the investigation and the family's complaint.

The bride's family has been left devastated. Subodh was the only son in his household, and what was meant to be a night of celebration has turned into a devastation.

A relative, Sukhpal Singh, confirmed that Subodh had stepped out of the vehicle to vomit when the speeding truck hit him.

Dr. Raj Singh of the District Hospital confirmed that the groom, Subodh, was brought in around 10:30 pm on Sunday following the road accident.

The doctor said that Subodh showed no signs of life when he was admitted to the hospital.

This is yet another incident involving the Mahindra Thar - which is known for often featuring in reels and short videos. The SUV, in recent times, has been under the spotlight for rash driving and accidents. Last month, a biker died after a speeding Thar hit him in Delhi's Moti Nagar area. Visuals showed the bike completely crushed between the car and a truck. Many cracks could also be seen on the car's windshield. The accused Thar driver, Amarinder Singh Sodhi, fled immediately, leaving his car behind, with the police finding two bottles of alcohol in the vehicle.


In another incident, a pedestrian died after a speeding Thar hit them in New Delhi's high-security diplomatic enclave, Chanakyapuri. Officials said that the accident occurred just about two kilometres from Rashtrapati Bhavan, but the pedestrian's body lay on the road for four hours. The accused was subsequently arrested, who told the police that he had dozed off and lost control of the vehicle.

Earlier this month, a woman accidentally drove a Mahindra Thar through a glass wall of a showroom in Delhi's Preet Vihar right after purchasing it. According to officials, the SUV was parked on the first floor of the showroom and was being delivered to the owner. No one was hurt in the incident.

Nine people, including the groom, were killed in a road accident in Rajasthan hours before the wedding in Madhya Pradesh, the police said today.

The occupants of the car were going to Ujjain when their driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell into a river in Rajasthan's Kota district, a senior police officer said.

He said police received information about the incident around 7.50 am, following which a rescue operation was launched.

Initially, seven bodies were pulled out from the car that had plunged seven-eight foot deep into the water. Two more bodies were recovered later, the police official said.

The marriage party was travelling from Chauth Ka Barwada village in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district to Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, the SP said.

"The diver most likely lost control over the car due to drowsiness," he said.

The rescue operation is underway, the police officer said.

The bodies have been kept in a mortuary for post-mortem, he said.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed grief over the incident.

"'The death of nine baratis, including the groom, after the car carrying them fell into Chambal River is very sad and unfortunate. Have spoken to the collector and assessed the situation. My deep condolences are with the aggrieved families. May God give them strength to bear the loss, and I pray for peace to the departed souls," he tweeted.

The accident occurred late on Wednesday night.

The impact of the collision was so intense that the car was completely mangled, leaving no chance of survival for the occupants, according to eyewitnesses.

Police reached the site immediately after receiving information and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Forensic teams and police personnel remained at the spot through the night, examining the wreckage and investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.

All four deceased are said to be MBBS students of Venkateshwar University. Officials from the university also arrived at the location. The identities of the victims are being confirmed, and their families are being informed.

A police team from Rajabpur police station inspected the scene, and efforts are underway to establish the exact cause of the crash.

In another tragic incident on the same night, two young men were killed in a collision between a truck and a motorcycle on Gajraula National Highway 9 in Amroha at around 8:45 p.m., officials said.

According to reports, the deceased, identified as Deepak and Nitin from Sona Khurd village in Lakhimpur Kheri district, were returning home from Gurugram, where they worked as bike riders, when the accident took place.

Police arrived at the spot, took the bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem. Station House Officer Manoj Kumar confirmed the incident and said that two people died in the road accident.

He added that police have prepared a Panchnama of both bodies, and further legal action is underway.

At least five persons died and six others were critically injured when a truck ran over three two-wheelers in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said on Saturday morning.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the truck was travelling on the wrong side of the NH and it rammed into three motorcycles one after another before hitting a bridge.

"Four persons died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries later. The injured, including a few pedestrians, were taken to MKCG Medical College Hospital," police said.

According to police, the speeding truck hit three bikes and dragged them for about 200 metres. The driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Southern Range IG Niti Sekhar reached the spot and monitored the rescue of the injured persons. He said the truck's driver was later arrested and investigation was on.


Taking to X, CMO Odisha said, "Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed grief after learning about the loss of lives in a tragic road accident at Haldiapadar near Berhampur in Ganjam district." It added that Majhi also announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of the victims from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF).

The CM has directed authorities to ensure best medical care to all the injured, it added.

Leader of Opposition and BJD president Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in separate social media posts also expressed grief over the death of the five persons in the accident.

The incident caused traffic congestion on the bridge.

Additional Superintendent of Police, North, Vikas Chandra Tripathi, said preliminary investigation has revealed that both vehicles were speeding.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, he said, adding the truck driver is absconding.

In a shocking incident that has shaken public conscience, a 60-year-old man was brutally assaulted and dragged behind a motorcycle in the Simariya police station area of Rewa district, allegedly by a group of youths angered over what they perceived as an insult to their pride.

The victim, Lakshman Prajapati, was returning to his village on a bicycle after visiting the Simariya fair when the incident occurred. According to his daughter-in-law, Sonu Prajapati, the attack was completely unprovoked and marked by extreme cruelty.

As per the complaint, Lakshman Prajapati was cycling past Padrai turn when a group of youths standing with their motorcycles asked him to stop. When the elderly man ignored them and continued on his way, the youths reportedly chased him down, stopped his bicycle, and assaulted him.

The attackers allegedly tied his hands with a muffler, fastened it to a motorcycle, and dragged him along the road for nearly three to four kilometres. During the ordeal, the elderly man suffered severe injuries, with deep wounds and extensive bruising caused by being dragged across the road surface.

Several villagers witnessed the horrifying scene and immediately alerted the police. By the time police reached the spot, tension had escalated in the area. Angry villagers blocked the road, demanding strict action against the accused. The blockade was lifted only after police officials intervened and assured swift action.

Laxman Prajapati was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa, where he remains in critical condition. Doctors say his injuries are severe, his arm bone is exposed, and he has deep abrasions and wounds across his body. He is currently battling for his life.

Police officials confirmed that three youths were involved in the incident. The victim has identified one of the accused, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest the others. The police have stated that search operations are ongoing and assured that all those responsible will be arrested soon.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the area, with residents demanding exemplary punishment for those involved in what many are calling an act of inhuman brutality.

The Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday took suo moto cognisance of recent accident deaths in the state and sought a preliminary response from the government detailing the steps taken for improving road safety.

The division bench of Justice Anuroop Singhi and Justice PS Bhati cited right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution, and asserted that recent events have compelled them to emphasise the urgency of road safety.

In Jaisalmer, an AC-sleeper bus caught fire killing 26 people last month. This week, a tempo traveller-truck collision in Phalodi killed 15 people and in Jaipur, a rashly driven dumper truck ploughed into at least over a dozen vehicles, leaving 14 people dead.

The bench also directed the counsels representing the department of Medical & Health, Revenue, PWD, Local Bodies, Home, Transport and NHAI, along with the additional solicitor general and additional advocate general to furnish their stand on the issue of road safety and public safety involving their departments, with particular reference to the untimely deaths that have occurred.

The central and state government were also asked to file their response.

The court has also appointed five amicus curies expecting them to file a common statement of consensus, along with concrete suggestions, indicating the steps that may be initiated for strengthening the regulatory framework relating to road and public safety.

The high court said recent events has compelled the court to emphasise the urgent need for the respondents to activate and strengthen the regulatory framework so that effective measures may be undertaken "to mitigate the recurring loss of life and suffering".

The bench further said that it was a matter of grave concern that, while "the nation places immense value on its human resource, widespread apathy and negligence among citizens regarding public and road safety continue to magnify societal anguish." The facts placed before this court reveal a broader systemic issue that warrants judicial attention and direction, it added.

The court expressed condolences to the families who lost their kin in recent accidents. It posted the matter on November 13.

Speeding SUV Crashes Into UP College Wall, Groom Among 8 Killed​

Eight members of a family, including a 24-year-old groom, were killed and two others seriously injured when a Bolero SUV carrying a wedding party crashed into the wall of a college in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district on Friday.

The incident occurred in Jewanai village around 6:30 am. The Bolero was reportedly travelling at high speed when the driver lost control near Janata Inter College. The vehicle collided with the boundary wall and then overturned.

There were ten occupants in the vehicle, all family members, en route to a wedding ceremony. The groom, Suraj, was among those declared dead on the spot. The party was travelling from Har Govindpur village in Sambhal to the bride's village in Sirtoul, located in neighbouring Budaun district.

Five people were pronounced dead at the scene. Three others, who were initially rescued alive, died of their injuries during treatment at a government hospital. Two survivors remain in critical condition and have been referred to a higher medical centre in Aligarh.

Among the dead were Suraj (24), groom; Asha (26), sister-in-law of the groom; Aishwarya (2), the daughter of Asha; Vishnu (6), son of Manoj; and three other individuals, including an aunt of the groom and two unidentified minors

The Bolero was said to be overcrowded with ten individuals, far exceeding its standard passenger capacity.

"The SUV lost control and rammed into the wall of Janata Inter College," said Additional Superintendent of Police (South), Anukriti Sharma, who visited the scene shortly after the crash. "Upon receiving information, local police and medical teams launched an immediate rescue operation. Five individuals were brought dead to the Jewanai Community Health Centre."

Videos recorded by onlookers showed shattered glass, bloodstains, and the mangled SUV. Police have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident.

A speeding luxury car ploughed into pedestrians near Kharabas Circle in Jaipur's Patrakar Colony area on Friday night, killing one person and injuring 15 others, police said.

Four of the critically injured were referred to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital.

The car first hit a divider, went out of control, and rammed roadside stalls and food carts over a 30-metre stretch before coming to a halt. Several parked vehicles were also damaged in the incident that triggered panic in the area.

Police said four people were in the car, and all of them were allegedly intoxicated. One occupant has been detained while others fled. The vehicle has been seized.

All injured were taken to Jaipuria Hospital for primary treatment. Eight were admitted, while others were taken to private hospitals or went home with family members.

One of the injured, Ramesh Bairwa, a resident of Bhilwara, later died during treatment. Four critically injured patients were shifted to SMS Hospital, police said.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the death and directed officials to ensure that the injured received proper treatment.

Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar visited Jaipuria Hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured.

Traffic restrictions will be in place in parts of New Delhi on January 22 due to rehearsals for the Beating Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk, the Delhi Traffic Police said on Wednesday.

According to a traffic advisory, Vijay Chowk will remain closed for general traffic from 4 pm to 6.30 pm. Vehicular movement will also be restricted on Raisina Road from the roundabout near Krishi Bhawan towards Vijay Chowk.

Traffic will not be allowed beyond the roundabouts at Dara Shikoh Road, Krishna Menon Marg and Sunehri Masjid in the direction of Vijay Chowk during the rehearsal hours, it said.

The stretch between Vijay Chowk and the Rafi Marg going towards Kartavya Path crossing will also remain closed during the specified hours.

Motorists have been advised to plan their travel in advance and take alternate routes such as Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg, Madarsa T-Point, Safdarjung Road (towards Kamal Ataturk Marg), Rani Jhansi Road and Minto Road.

Meanwhile, in a subsequent incident in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa, a speeding Audi car rammed into a motorcycle, killing three people on the spot, including a father and his young son.

The accident took place near Kosta village under the Raipur Karchuliyan police station area, around 8 km from Rewa city.
Police said the victims were travelling on a single motorcycle to distribute wedding invitation cards when the luxury car hit them at high speed. Among the deceased were Bhagwat Vishwakarma and his younger son Rahul. Bhagwat’s elder son was scheduled to get married on February 24.
Another close relative, who was riding with them, also died in the crash.
“The Audi was coming from the Raipur Karchuliyan side at a very high speed and rammed into the motorcycle,” said Raipur Karchuliyan police station SHO Vijay Singh.
The collision was so violent that the motorcycle was completely mangled, police said. All three victims died on the spot due to the impact.
The driver of the Audi has been taken into custody, and police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings, officials said.

'Felt A Bump, Saw Nothing': Man After His Car Drags Body For 10 Km​

Police took a man into custody after a body was allegedly found stuck to his car and dragged for a long distance, officials said on Saturday. The driver of the car told police that he felt his vehicle strike something 8-10 km before, but when he got down to check, he could not see anything due to heavy rain, they said.

The incident came to light only after passersby in the city noticed the body and stopped the car. The body has been sent for post-mortem, they added.

Circle Officer (CO)(City) Rajneesh Kumar Upadhyay said police received information around 10 pm on Friday that a car was moving with a body stuck underneath it in the Sadar Kotwali area here.

A police team rushed to the spot, stopped the vehicle and took both the car and its driver into custody for further investigation.

The body recovered from under the car was identified as Gharendra Kumar Singh, a resident of Bilsi, and his family have been informed, the CO said.

The driver, Parvendra Pratap Singh, a resident of Civil Lines, is currently being interrogated, he added.

Upadhyay said the matter is being investigated from all angles, and further legal proceedings are underway.

Delhi-Dehradun Highway Tragedy: A tragic accident shook east Delhi on Thursday morning near the MCD toll plaza on NH-9 in Ghazipur, leaving two family members dead and three others injured. Police said the SUV collided with a stationary truck, allegedly after the driver dozed off at the wheel. The victims were a mother and daughter identified as Neelam Garg (55) and her daughter Deepanjali Garg (38). Among the injured were Deepanjali’s two young children, Vivan (5) and Vashu (3), and their relative Deepanshu (28). According to police, Deepanshu had travelled all the way to Dehradun to bring his mother, sister, and nephews home to Rohini, looking forward to celebrating his first Holi after marriage with his family.
Police reported that the SUV was speeding at over 100 km/h when it struck the stationary container truck. The impact was devastating, killing Neelam and Deepanjali instantly and leaving the children and Deepanshu seriously injured.

Authorities are investigating the crash to determine the exact cause, though preliminary reports point to driver fatigue as a possible factor.


"We suspect Deepanshu may have dozed off moments before the collision. The impact was so severe that the left side of the car was completely mangled. Deepanjali was on the front seat and her mother, Neelam, was at the back seat," a senior officer said.

Vehicle Cut Open to Pull Out Victims​

Rescue teams had to cut open the vehicle to pull out victims. Neelam was flung some distance away from the car as the vehicle reportedly spun around after the incident, he added.
The accident took place at 6.43 am near the toll booths near the Vinod Nagar Depot, police said, adding that a PCR call regarding the accident was received at Ghazipur police station, following which personnel rushed to the scene.
"On reaching the spot, the team found two women occupants of the car unresponsive. They were identified as Deepanjali (38) and Neelam Garg (55). One woman was found lying outside the vehicle, while the other was trapped in the front passenger seat. Both were declared dead at the scene," the officer said.
The driver of the car, Deepanshu, and the two children were found injured and were immediately taken to Max Hospital for treatment, police said, adding that their condition is being monitored. Police said the family had left Delhi around 10 pm on Wednesday and reached Dehradun around 1.30 am. After a brief stay, they began their return journey around 2 am along with Deepanjali and her two sons.

'Excited to Celebrated First Holi'​



Family members said Deepanshu, who runs a rice business, was excited to celebrate his first Holi after marriage and wanted his sister and nephews to be present for the festivities.
Neelam's brother Surendra Kumar Mittal said the family had planned to celebrate the festival together.
"We thought we would all celebrate together. We were preparing to buy water guns and colours for the children. Little did we know that we would be arranging the last rites of our dear ones," he said.
Before losing consciousness, Deepanshu reportedly managed to call Anshul -- Deepanjali's husband -- to inform him about the accident, family members said.
The children, who are unaware that they have lost their mother, are also undergoing treatment. While Vashu has undergone brain surgery after suffering severe head injury, Vivan's condition is stated to be stable.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Police said a case has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving on public way), 125(b) (endangering life or personal safety) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence).
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the circumstances leading to the accident, police added.

She was riding with a friend when the BMTC e-bus reportedly collided with their two-wheeler.
According to reports, while her friend fell to the left side of the road, Hannah was flung to the right. Police said the bus ran over Hanna, resulting in fatal injuries, while her friend sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries, police said.


Mahadevapura traffic police have registered a case in connection with the accident and taken the bus driver into custody. Further investigation is underway.
The incident again brought to light a spate of fatal accidents caused by BMTC buses in recent months. In October 2025, a 58-year-old woman was killed in Vijayanagar when she was hit by an electric BMTC bus while crossing the road near a bus stop. She suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot.

In August 2025, a 37-year-old software engineer lost his life in Sanjaynagar when his scooter collided with a BMTC bus as he stepped out to buy breakfast for his family. A 10-year-old schoolgirl fell from a two-wheeler and came under the rear wheels of a city bus while traveling on Kogilu Main Road in Yelahanka that very month.
Earlier, in July 2025, an electric bus crashed into a road-side canteen in Peenya Industrial Area, killing a woman and injuring four others, after the driver had allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

Not even a fortnight since a man lost his life after a part of Metro Line 4’s slab collapsed on him in Mulund, a similar mishap has taken place at another infra project — the under-construction Sewri-Worli elevated connector. An iron rod fell from the site, this time injuring a 23-year-old man who was passing under the bridge near KEM Hospital on Friday night.

What happened​


Ganesh Vishnu Budhale was passing by KEM Hospital in Parel, when he was struck on the head by an iron rod that fell from the ongoing construction at the Sewri-Worli bridge overhead.


Budhale suffered severe injury to his head, which was bleeding from the impact. An FIR has been filed under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Bhoiwada police station, stating that the iron road fell due to negligence on the part of the contractor and workers, who allegedly had not taken proper safety precautions or installed protective measures at the site.


Sunday mid-day contacted Budhale over the phone, who said, “I am in too much pain.” He remains under treatment at Gleneagles hospital in Parel.

Police action​

The FIR names the accused as Piraji Kamble, engineer in-charge at the construction site overseen by J Kumar Infraproject Pvt Ltd.

MMRDA says​

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority said the incident occurred “during ongoing pier reinforcement work being executed by the project contractor… a steel reinforcement bar inadvertently fell, bounced on the barricade, and caused injury to a passerby.”

Additionally, the authority said, “Upon receiving information, MMRDA’s executive engineer immediately visited the site. MMRDA will bear the entire cost of treatment.”

In a major move to curb traffic violations and ease congestion at critical stretches, 'Zero Tolerance' Zones have been created across some of the busiest corridors in New Delhi, including the Ring Road, Outer Ring Road and the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC)-controlled areas. The initiative, which was approved by the Delhi Traffic Police, aims to enforce strict lane discipline, improve crowd management, and reduce pollution levels in high-footfall zones.

As part of the initiative, bus lanes will be clearly demarcated, and strict enforcement measures will be put in place to ensure compliance. Officials said that indiscipline by buses, particularly the practice of picking up passengers from the main carriageway, has been a major cause of congestion and accidents.

Emphasis is also being laid on crowd and pedestrian management, especially at busy crossings. To address this, 14 dedicated enforcement teams of the traffic police have been deployed on either side of the key crossings, where violations such as wrong parking and encroachment remain rampant.

Areas with heavy daily footfall - owing to the presence of railway stations, metro hubs and Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs) - are under focus, as these locations routinely witness traffic bottlenecks and safety risks. Officials noted that the improved enforcement will not only reduce violations but also help in cutting down congestion, which in turn is expected to contribute to a reduction in pollution levels.

Recently, a massive enforcement drive conducted by the Delhi Traffic Police across six identified zones yielded significant results. These zones were Azadpur Mandi, Anand Vihar, Karol Bagh, Teen Murti, Dwarka-Najafgarh Road, and Uttam Nagar. Anand Vihar alone saw 1,040 challans issued in a single day, while a total of 2,200 challans were issued across all six zones within 24 hours. The actions included impounding buses, action against drunken driving, and penalising lane violations.

Officials said that the traffic police will continue sustained enforcement to ensure safer, smoother and more disciplined traffic movement across the national capital.

Sridhar M, who works for a multinational company (MNC) on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), met with the accident on Monday evening while returning home on his scooter. The incident occurred on a narrow road linking Panathur village to CDP Road, a route frequently used by commuters to avoid chronic traffic congestion.
"On Monday evening, while returning from work near Panathur–Dinne–Gunjur Palya Road, close to CDP Road, my scooter hit a deep pothole. I lost control as it jolted, and the scooter veered off the road into a muddy, uneven area. I fell, and my right hand and shoulder struck the road," said Sridhar.

While CDP Road is under construction, many residents still use this route to bypass the ORR and Old Airport Road traffic.

An MRI later revealed multiple fractures and a deep cut across the shoulder bone. "Surgery was advised, with costs estimated between Rs 1.2 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh," he added. After consulting several hospitals, doctors suggested the injury might heal with conservative treatment, though surgery could still be required depending on recovery. Sridhar has been advised complete rest for at least a month, with another 2–3 months before he can resume driving.
The injury has severely disrupted his daily life. "This has been extremely painful for me. It has disrupted my daily routine, and my family has been affected too, as I used to take my daughter to school," he said.

Visuals showed people trying to push the vehicle while Patel was struggling under the vehicle. The cops finally pulled him from under the wheels of the SUV and took him to the hospital.

His condition is serious, and he is undergoing treatment.

Two accused have been arrested in the case, and a search is on for other suspects. The police are investigating the reasons behind the incident.

CCTV Footage Emerges​

CCTV footage of the incident shows the bike rider was overspeeding, while the deceased attempted to cross the road in a hurry which led to the fatal crash.


Rushed to Hospital, Declared Dead​

She was rushed to Suguna Hospital for emergency treatment, but doctors declared her dead due to severe injuries. The sudden death has left her family, colleagues and residents of the area in shock.

The bike rider, identified as Deepan, 21, also fell during the accident and sustained injuries. He was taken to a Command Hospital for treatment. A post-mortem examination of Yogeshwari’s body was conducted at Victoria Hospital.


Rajajinagar traffic police visited the spot soon after the incident, carried out an inspection and registered a case. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether negligence was involved.

What Happened?​


On Saturday evening, a car travelling on the Tumkur Highway suddenly lost control, crashed into a road divider, crossed into the opposite lane, and overturned before hitting the KSRTC bus. The impact was so severe that the car was badly damaged. The bonnet was crushed, window glass shattered, doors broken, and blood covered the seats and roof of the vehicle.

Police rushed to the scene and examined the area. They confirmed that the five people in the car had died, while all passengers on the bus were safe.


The Nelamangala Police Station has registered a formal complaint. Officials said the investigation is underway, but the exact cause of the accident is not yet known. They are monitoring the site and reviewing any available CCTV footage to determine how the incident occurred.

A 45-year-old man in Hyderabad was hit and dragged under a Bolero for nearly a kilometre, leaving him severely injured with a broken leg. The road rage incident that occurred on February 9 within the limits of the Kushaiguda police station has sparked widespread outrage. The man is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.
The accused, the driver, was reportedly driving with a siren and causing a disturbance on the road, local news outlet Hyderabad Mail reported.

The deceased's colleague, Panuganti Raju, said the ordeal began around 8 pm near Mallapur X Road. Raju, Sathish (deceased) and Vijay Kumar were travelling in their MG Windson car from Mallapur to Rampally. At that time, a Bolero with two occupants was going in the same direction.


The driver was rashly driving his Bolero and hit their car from behind. However, they did not stop and tried to flee. As Sathish came outside the vehicle to stop the Bolero by standing in its path, the driver accelerated and struck him.

Sathish fell and instinctively grabbed the front bumper of the car to protect himself, Raju said in his complaint, adding that the two individuals did not stop and continued driving, dragging him for around 700 metres.
Sathish was dragged until his lower body forced him to release his grip from the bumper, causing him severe injuries.


Man​


In another disturbing case of road rage, a goods vehicle driver was reportedly forced to cling to the bonnet of a moving car after a heated argument at a traffic signal in Bengaluru.
According to the complainant, the incident began when a car driver pulled up beside his goods vehicle, allegedly used abusive language and then tried to drive away.
The situation escalated at the CB Road signal, where the car stopped at a red light. The complainant stepped out of his vehicle to confront the driver.
As the signal changed, the car driver allegedly tried to run away. The complainant stood in front of the car to stop him from leaving. Instead of halting, the driver is said to have accelerated towards him. Fearing he would be run over, the complainant jumped onto the bonnet and held on to the windscreen wipers to protect himself.

The incident, which was also captured in a CCTV footage, took place near Mehdipatnam when the delivery executive, identified as K Abhishek, lost control of his two-wheeler while heading towards Tolichowki to deliver an order. A private travel bus following closely behind ran over him, killing him on the spot, a report by NDTV reported.

Abhishek, a native of Shaikpet and a final-year BBA student, had taken up delivery work to support his family. Police said preliminary findings suggest he was rushing to complete the delivery when his bike skidded on the busy stretch.

“We have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances of the accident. Initial inputs indicate the victim was in a hurry to complete the order,” a police official told NDTV, adding that gig workers should prioritise safety and wear helmets at all times.

“Deadly” 10-minute delivery​

The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) strongly condemned the incident, calling it a direct fallout of what it described as “unrealistic and deadly” 10-minute delivery models adopted by quick-commerce platforms.
“Ten-minute food and grocery deliveries always start on time. Rs 100-crore speed projects always start on time. But when a worker crashes on the road, insurance and compensation never start on time,” Shaik Salauddin, founder-president of TGPWU, as per report by NDTV. “Boardroom promises are not the ground reality. Workers are human beings, not algorithms.”


The union has demanded immediate intervention by the Telangana labour and employment minister, including an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh for Abhishek’s family, coverage under the Workmen’s Compensation Act for gig workers, and the scrapping of delivery targets that encourage risky driving in heavy traffic.
Abhishek’s body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem at Osmania General Hospital. Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal skid.

What Caused The​


It happened when the group was returning from a friend's birthday party. According to the preliminary investigation, overspeeding was the cause of the accident.

"Five students aged 18 to 21 were in the vehicle travelling at a high speed. The driver lost control of the car and hit a tree, resulting in the death of four," an official told PTI news agency.

"Sumit, Nikhil, Rohit and Surya died. Nakshatra survived with injuries. Except for Rohit, the deceased were BBA students at ICFAI Business School (IBS). Sumit was driving, and it was his birthday," Mokila Inspector Veera Babu told TOI.
The impact was so severe that the car split in two, police said, adding a female student survived the crash and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The bodies of the students have been sent for postmortem to Chevella Government Hospital. Moreover, the Mokila police have started an investigation.

Zepto Rider Dies in Hyderabad Accident​


In another accident, a Zepto delivery partner lost control of his two-wheeler and was killed when a private bus ran over him in Hyderabad. The incident took place on January 5 on the Tolichowki–Mehdipatnam road near Mehdipatnam.
The incident was caught on CCTV, showing the tragic accident in which the victim, Abhishek, was riding a two-wheeler when he lost control of his vehicle and fell onto the road.

A massive traffic-jam brought movement on the Mumbai–Pune expressway to a standstill for over twelve hours on Tuesday evening, after a gas tanker overturned in the Khandala Ghat section. The incident left hundreds of vehicles stranded and triggering massive congestion on both carriageways, officials said on Wednesday.
The accident occurred around 5 pm on Tuesday near the Adoshi tunnel in Raigad district when the tanker, allegedly travelling at high speed, lost control on a slope and overturned. The vehicle was carrying propylene gas, which is highly flammable. Soon after the crash, gas began leaking from the tanker, causing panic among motorists.

As a precautionary measure, police shut the Mumbai-bound carriageway to prevent any untoward incident. Mumbai-bound vehicles were diverted onto the Pune-bound carriageway for around a 2 km stretch. However, normal traffic movement could not be restored as the gas leak continued for several hours, resulting in long queues and crawling traffic for over 12 hours, even affecting Pune-bound motorists.

The impact was severe, with several motorists and bus passengers forced to wait overnight. A conductor of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus told PTI around midnight that their vehicle had been stationary for over six hours near the accident site, leaving passengers without basic amenities.
Frustration spilled onto social media as stranded commuters appealed for help and warned others to avoid the route.

Musical Road Turns Chaotic: The musical stretch on the Mumbai Coastal Road is designed to play the iconic tune 'Jai Ho' as vehicles strike precision rumble strips at the correct speed. While intended as a melodic reward for safe driving, the project has hit a sour note with the local community. Residents in the nearby densely populated neighbourhoods have raised strong objections, claiming the feature has become a source of constant disturbance. In response, the Breach Candy ALM and the Breach Candy Residents Forum (BCRF) have formally written to Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, seeking immediate intervention. A copy of the grievance has also been marked to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office.

From Echoes to Chaos​

Representing over 650 families, the residents said the amplified music, played daily from 6 am to midnight, is causing significant distress. According to the letter, the sound enters homes as a “constant, muffled but intrusive background noise,” forcing residents to keep their windows shut. Senior citizens have reportedly expressed serious discomfort.

It’s a Safety Risk​


The northbound side of the road is built for fast-moving traffic. The residents argue that:

  • Drivers are getting distracted: People are losing focus because they are listening to the music instead of watching the road.
  • Erratic driving: Some drivers are suddenly slowing down to hear the tunes, which could easily cause a high-speed crash or a pile-up.

It’s Just Too Noisy​

Mumbai is already a very loud city with constant horn-honking and engine noise. The local community feels that:
  • It’s unnecessary: Adding "amplified" (loud) music makes a bad noise problem even worse.
  • It’s poorly located: The music is playing near sensitive places like schools and hospitals, where peace and quiet are actually important for health and learning
“Residents are increasingly fatigued from repeatedly raising serious civic concerns, only to find attention focused on avoidable and non-essential interventions,” the letter stated, adding that the deafening noise from speeding supercars on the Coastal Road remains an unaddressed issue.
The residents have urged the civic administration to immediately review and discontinue the music initiative, calling it unnecessary and disruptive to daily life in the neighbourhood.

Mumbai Pothole Death: A man died after hitting a pothole and being struck by a BEST bus near the Mumbai University post office last week, according to Congress president of Mumbai, Varsha Gaikwad. She added that the stretch where the accident occurred was poorly lit, making it especially risky for commuters at night. Gaikwad criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for neglecting the road’s maintenance, as the authorities still try to figure out whose jurisdiction the stretch falls under.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Varsha Gaikwad stated that the man, Arun Tiwari, was returning home when he was tragically struck by the bus. He was rushed to a BMC hospital but could not get an oxygen cylinder, forcing a transfer to Lilavati Hospital. However, the victim’s family had to wait at least half an hour at the BMC hospital for an ambulance.

By the time Tiwari reached Lilavati Hospital, he had lost a significant amount of blood and succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

"The entire stretch of road near Mumbai University from Vakola up to Kurla sees several accidents every week due to potholes. The maintenance of the stretch suffers while BMC and MMRDA continue to spar over whose jurisdiction it is. Meanwhile people keep dying. After Arun's death, it was left to locals to put gunny bags over the pothole as a temporary measures, none of the authorities were around," said Gaikwad in the tweet.

Gaikwad urged Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde to resolve the BMC-MMRDA conflict so the road could be restored for safe use.
"I demand that the urban development minister @mieknathshinde step in and immediately fix this issue of handover of road maintenance between @mybmc and @MMRDAOfficial so that the maintenance of SCLR, CST Road, Hans Bhugra road and other roads in the Kalina Vakola stretch is done regularly. The area should be lit up well. Arun Tiwari's family must get justice."

CCTV Captures Moments Before Fatal Accident
CCTV footage from the society show the moments before the accident where the boy was playing on his bicycle and seconds later, a blue car struck him and dragged him few meters. As the car hits the boy, the driver can be seen immediately getting out of his car and rushing towards him. He then picked the boy up and ran towards his vehicle, according to a report by Times of India.

Neighbours and other residents also rushed to the spot and helped take the child nearby hospital. As soon as the child reached hospital doctors declared him dead on arrival.


Father Files Complaint, Police Launch Probe
According to police, the child's father has lodged a complaint against the diver, alleging rash and negligent driving that led to his son's death. A case has been registered, and the police has launched an investigation into the incident.
As the part of the probe, police is examining the CCTV footage to reconstruct the sequence of the event leading to the accident and to assess the speed of the car at the time of incident, the report said.

Neighbors have expressed outrage as the CCTV video went viral. The incident has triggered anger among residents of the society, raising questions on reckless driving within residential premises. Several residents have demanded strict action against the driver and stronger safety measures inside the society.
Police said further action will be taken after the investigation.

A video shot to capture a casual drive in Delhi and used as a reel for social media has now become key evidence in a fatal crash that killed23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra on a road in Dwarka. The video recorded inside the Scorpio SUV that hit Sahil on February 3 reveals chilling details of the moments leading up to the collision. Recorded by a young woman seated next to the driver, the clip shows a teenage boy behind the wheel, allegedly driving at high speed on a narrow road without a divider.
The young woman was reportedly sister of the teen driver. In the clip, the SUV can be seen swerving and narrowly missing a bus before continuing forward at speed. Seconds later, Sahil’s motorcycle appears in the frame. He is seen attempting to overtake the same bus from the opposite direction when the SUV rams into him head on.

However, the exact moment of the crash is not visible in the version circulating online, with Sahil’s mother, who shared the reel publicly, claiming the footage had been trimmed and that the portion showing the actual moment of the crash was cut from the video.

A fatal Accident​


On February 3, the police filed a case at Dwarka South Police Station under sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS. The same day around 11.57 am a fatal accident was reported to have happened near Lal Bahadur Shastri College.


The police at the spot found an SUV, a car and a motorcycle in an accidental condition. The motorcycle rider, later identified as Sahil Dhaneshra, was found dead at the spot.


During investigation, the SUV driver, identified as 17-year-old Akshatra Singh, was found without a driving licence and was apprehended. The minor was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to an observation home. The police said he was granted interim bail on February 10 by the JJB on the ground that he was a class 10 student and due to appear for his exams.
All three vehicles involved in the accident were seized and mechanically inspected, and CCTV footage from the area has been collected, the police said. According to a preliminary investigation, the SUV allegedly collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction before hitting a roadside parked car.

"I raised my child for 23 years as a single mother. On February 3, my innocent child was blown away by a car. I am a helpless mother," she said in the video, appealing to media organisations and residents of Dwarka to support her in seeking justice. She also urged parents to be vigilant about road safety and appealed to the public to come forward in her support.

A shocking incident has come to light from Greater Noida, where a group of men was allegedly seen assaulting youths, including a man and a woman, over a minor honking dispute in the Bisrakh area on February 14. The incident triggered protests at the police station after a video of the assault went viral. The attack reportedly took place last week when a group of miscreants allegedly targeted the occupants of a car after they honked the horn.
According to the video, the man was allegedly beaten with bats and sticks, while the woman was allegedly dragged by her hair and pinned to the ground. The accused, armed with baseball bats and hockey sticks, also smashed the car windows, damaged the vehicle, abused the victims, and issued death threats.

The doctors then confirmed that the man suffered a skull fracture and is being treated in a hospital.

Woman Dragged​


According to the CCTV footage, the accused men forcibly dragged young women out of the vehicle and assaulted them in public. They even thrashed one of the girls and pushed her on the road.


The group of men and women then called the police and were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of the men even suffered severe head injuries and collapsed at the spot.
The incident led to widespread anger, with several organizations staging a protest and gheraoing the Bisrakh Police Station, demanding strict action against all the accused.
Following the unrest, the police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused resorted to physical violence following a dispute over honking. They have registered a case under BNS sections 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 324(4) (mischief causing property damage).

A portion of a pillar of the Mumbai Metro peeled off and fell on a road below in Mulund (West) today, killing one and leaving three others critically injured, officials said.

The debris fell on an autorickshaw and a car at 12.30 pm. Visuals showed a man struggling to get out of the mangled autorickshaw as a group of people tried to help him.

The bonnet of an orange car next to the three-wheeler had been crushed by the concrete debris. There were passengers in the autorickshaw, officials said.

"An incident occurred today at approximately 12.15 pm near Pier P196 of Metro Line construction works near the Mulund fire station, where a portion of a parapet segment fell from height and struck a passing autorickshaw," the MMRDA said in a statement, adding two people were injured and were taken to a hospital.

The Metro project team is at the site and is working on relief operations and securing the site in close co-ordination with BMC and disaster management authorities, the MMRDA said.

The MMRDA has formed a high-level inquiry committee headed by Basavraj M Bhadragond, Director (Metro PIU), MMRDA, to investigate the collapse of the portion of the parapet.

"We deeply regret this tragic incident and extend our sincere condolences to the family of the dead. A compensation will be offered as per MMRDA's compensation policy... All medical expenses of the injured will be fully borne by the MMRDA," the agency said in a statement.
