'Soil Blocked Nose and Mouth, Burn Marks on Thigh': What Post-Mortem Reveals in Delhi Biker’s Pit Fall Death
The post-mortem report of Kamal Dhyani, who died after falling into an unguarded pit in Janakpuri, indicates traumatic asphyxia as the cause of death, attributed to chest compression from a heavy vehicle.
New Delhi: The post-mortem report in the
Janakpuri pit fall case that claimed the life of 25-year-old Kamal Dhyani has revealed that he died due to suffocation and traumatic asphyxia, doctors said. According to medical findings, the cause of death has been identified as traumatic asphyxia due to heavy compression of the chest. Doctors said the victim is believed to have fallen into a soil pit along with his motorcycle, after which loose soil blocked his mouth and nostrils, leading to suffocation.
What Post-mortem Report Reveals
The post-mortem report further said the chest compression was likely caused by a heavy vehicle falling or pressing onto the victim after the fall. This pressure on the chest is believed to have restricted breathing, resulting in death.
The post-mortem examination also revealed burn marks on the victim’s right thigh. Doctors said these marks may have been caused due to prolonged contact with a vehicle’s silencer after death.
At this stage, doctors have stated that the death appears to be accidental. However, they added that the final opinion on the exact time and manner of death will be given only after a detailed investigation and further examination of all evidence.
Police said they are continuing to probe the incident and are examining all aspects of the case to establish the sequence of events that led to the fatal accident.
What Happened that Night
The incident took place after midnight in the early hours of Friday, when Dhyani was riding his motorcycle home and fell into a 4.2-feet-deep pit dug for construction work. The pit was reportedly left open and unguarded as part of Delhi Jal Board-related construction activity.

According to police, Dhyani remained trapped inside the pit for several hours. He was later found dead, triggering public outrage and demands for accountability over unsafe road conditions.
Eyewitness Saw the Fall
During the investigation, police identified an eyewitness who had seen the accident take place. DCP West Sharad Bhaskar said Vipin Singh witnessed a motorcycle fall into the pothole and immediately informed a guard at the site. The guard then passed on the information to a contractor’s worker named Yogesh.
Police said Yogesh went to the spot and saw both the victim and the motorcycle, with the headlight still switched on. Despite this, no emergency services were called.
According to the police timeline, Yogesh informed his supervisor, contractor Rajesh Prajapati, at around 12:22 am. However, neither of them alerted the police, ambulance services, or local authorities.
Meanwhile, subcontractor Rajesh Prajapati has been arrested in connection with the death of Kamal Dhyani, while worker Yogesh has fled the scene. Explaining the findings, DCP Bhaskar said the investigation clearly shows negligence after the accident was known.
The incident occurred near the B3B Block in Janakpuri, close to Andhra School, on Professor Jogender Singh Marg on February 5.
According to the FIR, no warning signs, reflectors, barricades or proper lighting arrangements were present at the site, and no security guard had been deployed. The FIR states that the pit was left open in the middle of a public road without any safety measures.
When police reached the spot, they found an unidentified man along with his motorcycle lying inside a pit measuring about 20 feet in length, 13 feet in width and around 14 feet in depth. The pit had been dug in the middle of the road as part of road work.
The injured man was pulled out of the pit by the fire brigade and taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in a PCR vehicle. However, the hospital later informed the police that “the patient brought by PCR has been declared dead.”
Quoting the medical report, the FIR stated, “Patient was brought to ER in an unconscious and unresponsive state with an alleged history of being found roadside near Joginder Singh Marg at around 08:00 am. Injury details include a grazed abrasion over the epigastric region, and the patient was brought in dead.”
