Federal Minister for Science Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen was the reason why Asad Umar stepped down as the finance minister last year in April.

In an interview with the Voice of America, Chaudhry revealed that soon after Imran Khan became prime minister and his party came into governance, quarrels among Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Umar and Tareen began.

Chaudhry continued that Tareen used his influence to get Umar removed from the Cabinet and later Umar got Tareen out. He said the infighting affected the party a lot especially the political class.

Due to this, the minister said, the void was then filled by those people who had no idea about politics and were very new to the party. "You can’t excel when your foundation is shaken," the minister said.

Comparing the PM to Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto when they were in power, Chaudhry said Sharif and Bhutto chose weak people for government posts because their aim was to bring their own children to the centre stage.

PM directs cabinet members not to issue controversial statement

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday directed members of the federal cabinet not to issue controversial statement.

The prime minister said this while presiding over a meeting of the federal cabinet on Tuesday. Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar raised the issue of Fawad Chaudhry s statement before the prime minister.

Sources said that PM Imran directed the cabinet members to exercise caution and maintain unity in the talks. The performance of some ministers and advisers also came under discussion in the cabinet meeting.

Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda openly criticized the policies of Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum Division Nadeem Babar and said that people were conspiring from within the cabinet.

“There is a game being played here and we cannot sit silent,” he said.

Vawda said that people think that they have become the prime minister.

Infighting caused harm to PTI, says Fawad

KARACHI: Infighting within the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s top leadership caused harm to the party’s reform agenda, admitted Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Monday.

In an interview with Voice of America, the minister said he got to spend a lot of time with Prime Minister Imran Khan in Nathiagali recently where they discussed matters related to the governance.

Referring to Imran Khan’s recent remarks in Karachi about the chief minister becoming a dictator, Mr Chaudhry said the prime minister’s ideas were very clear on matters such as the NFC Award and judicial and police reforms.

However, he pointed out, ideas alone were not enough to bring about change because the prime minister needed a team to implement them.

“Frankly, bickering among Jehangir Tareen, Asad Umar and Shah Mehmood Qureshi has pushed the political class out of the game. The political vacuum created by the infighting was filled up with new people who were not from a political background,” he said.

“Imran’s core team fell apart. The new people are frankly not aligned with his idea and maybe don’t have the capacity to do so. The infighting has caused a lot of harm to the party, especially its political cadre,” he added.

Alluding to the government’s perceived failure, the minister said that when the internal team was weak, then one could not focus on external politics. And this was the reason that the PTI had not been able to implement its reforms agenda, he said.

“Look at the parliamentary leadership and the provincial leadership. Can you expect civilian supremacy from this leadership?” he asked.

“When Asad Umar was the finance minister, Jahangir Tareen made all the efforts to have him removed. When Asad Umar returned, he cut off Tareen. Though Shah Mehmood Qureshi met Tareen several times [for reconciliation], the infighting didn’t stop and bureaucrats took over,” the minister said.

Fawad chaudary ,shah mehmood quershi and zartaj gul are huge liability for pti .

Are we witnessing history?

Monday night RAW
WWE legend Fawad Ch vs all of the PTI

Not really, a lot of ministers and people overhyping themselves up all these years and corrupt individuals within the PTI are the one's causing harm to the party

Fawad chaudary ,shah mehmood quershi and zartaj gul are huge liability for pti .

More than these I think guys like Dawood and Babar who actually have nothing to do with PTI should be thrown out. They are part of Mafia and filling their own pockets. The people who worked hard all these years and stood by Imran in good and bad should be promoted.

im sure Asad Umar left because the IMF though he was a joke and they couldnt trust him with a $6billion loan.

ISLAMABAD: Internal rifts within the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government surfaced again on Tuesday when Prime Minister Imran Khan had to intervene and stop federal ministers from hurling allegations against one another during the cabinet meeting.

Unusual scenes were witnessed in the cabinet meeting after one of the ministers raised the issue of federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry’s interview to Voice of America (VOA) in which the latter said rifts among senior party leaders allowed non-elected members, who were unaware of PM’s vision, to join the cabinet.

While Mr Fawad stuck to his remarks against non-elected members in the cabinet meeting, federal Minister for Water Resources lamented some senior party leaders’ role in his outrage.

Insiders said Prime Minister Khan was angry at the interview and directed PTI leaders to avoid discussing internal party matters openly. “Yes, the issue of Fawad Chaudhry’s interview was discussed in the meeting and the prime minister expressed displeasure on it,” said Minister for Information Senator Shibli Faraz in a post-cabinet meeting press conference.

PM tells cabinet members not to discuss party’s internal issues in public

Senator Faraz said PM Khan was of the opinion that party’s internal issues should not be discussed at open forums.

Mr Fawad in his interview with VOA had discussed internal rifts within the party ranks and said PTI stalwarts managed to remove one another, as Jehangir Tareen was behind the removal of Asad Umar from the cabinet while the latter managed ousting of Mr Tareen. He said non-elected persons had replaced elected representatives in close circle of the prime minister, who were unaware of the basic aims and objectives of the party.

The issues of elected and non-elected cabinet members had already come in the media in the past when some party leaders at different forums had criticised the role of special assistants and advisers to the premier.

According to some media reports, federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar during the cabinet meeting complained to PM Khan that Mr Fawad had blamed him (Asad) for the removal of Mr Tareen from the party.

On this, Mr Fawad said if it was not true, then he (Asad) better tell the federal cabinet that he had no role in that.

Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda also complained to the Prime Minister about what he called “interference” of some senior party leaders in his ministry. When contacted, Mr Fawad confirmed to Dawn that the prime minister was not happy over his interview to VOA. He said the PM was of the opinion that differences existed everywhere but they should not be discussed openly.

The federal minister said he told Mr Khan that he had just given his analysis during the interview and he stood by what he had said.

He added that Mr Vawda also spoke against federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, PM’s aides Razzaq Dawood and Nadeem Babar.

Supporting the stance of Mr Vawda, Mr Fawad said: “We are not answerable to any minister and adviser.”

Later, in a private TV talk show, Mr Vawda also said: “We are not answerable to anyone in the party, but to Imran Khan.” He added that Mr Fawad too had said so in the cabinet meeting.

The minister also disclosed that important documents were released to the media from some ministry in an attempt to malign the Prime Minister. Mr Vawda, however, did not elaborate who released such documents. “Such things are leaked and this happens in politics,” he remarked.

Asked if the prime minister had stopped him during his outrage against his colleagues, the minister said: “No, Imran Khan did not stop me.”

Mr Umar and Mr Qureshi were not available for comments despite several attempts by Dawn to contact them.

Wheat import allowed
At the media briefing, Senator Faraz also gave details of other decisions of the cabinet meeting.

He said the meeting approved import of wheat to cater local consumption. “Our requirement is 27m tonnes of wheat and presently we have 25m tonnes. The gap of 2m tonnes will be filled through import of wheat,” he added.

The information minister said the Punjab government had been asked to release 9m tonnes of wheat to ensure smooth supply of the commodity in the market and to keep its price stable.

He said a committee, headed PM’s Adviser on Finance Dr Hafeez Sheikh, was formed to streamline issues related to purchase of wheat from Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Services Corporation Limited (Passco), smuggling etc.

About the sugar crisis in the country, the cabinet decided to implement “matrix of action” recommended by the sugar inquiry commission against sugar barons within the timeline set for the purpose. Due to the actions being taken by the government, the price of sugar would reduce within three months, he said.

The cabinet meeting also reviewed arrangements for combating Covid-19 and feared that its peak would come in August.

Besides, it also expressed satisfaction over the work done for uniform school curriculum in the country.

Chohan asks ‘disgruntled’ Fawad to quit govt

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information Fayazul Hassan Chohan has asked federal Minster for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry to quit the party and the government if he is not satisfied with the performance of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“Such a disgruntled individual better leave the party instead of spreading rumours and damaging the party,” said Mr Chohan while talking to a private TV channel on Tuesday about the federal minister’s interview to Voice of America a day earlier.

In his interview, the federal minister had spoken at length about intra-party grouping and differences within the party affecting the performance of the government. He quoted Prime Minister Imran Khan as saying that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had six months to get things right, otherwise anything could happen.

Mr Chohan, in a rather harsh tone, asked Mr Chaudhry to stop washing (party’s) dirty linen in public.

He said: “He [Mr Chaudhry] is a member of the core committee. If he feels so strongly about the party problems, he has the highest party forum to speak instead of going to public every now and then to stir needless controversies. He uttered equally irresponsible words about Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar as well.

“I personally admonished him to control himself, and stop going public with such meaningless utterances. But he does not seem to have learnt.”

The provincial minister said that despite having the history of switching parties, Mr Chaudhry was given the core committee slot. “What else he expects from the party?” he remarked.

Mr Chohan denied that there were any differences within the party, insisting that the entire party was united under the leadership of Imran Khan.

PTI MNA lodges FIR against party MPA

KARACHI: It seems like the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members' infighting has not been limited to cabinet only, as now PTI MNA from Karachi Aslam Khan has lodged a case against his MPA seeking the return of money he spent on the election campaign of the provincial lawmaker on Saturday.

PTI MNA Aslam Khan of Karachi has got registered an FIR against party MPA Abbas Jafferi for non-refund of election expenses.

It is pertinent to note that Mohammed Aslam Khan grabbed 75,702 votes and won NA-254 Karachi Central-II, where MQM has its headquarters while model-turned-politician Abbas Jafferi from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won Sindh Assembly seat PS-125 with 30,687 votes.

Aslam Khan bore all the expenses of Jafferi's election campaign on the promise he will return the amount later. Now the cheque he gave to Aslam Khan has bounced. This infuriated the PTI MNA who got registered a case against the MPA.

It is a circus.

This is what happens when you unleash the most uneducated, dumb foul mouths on the nation under the pretext of tabdeeli.

What happened to the “when the leader is good everyone under him follows his example” garbage?

It was only a matter of time before these street urchins started to grab each others by the throat.

Nevertheless, this nightmare will be over soon. This is the first and only time PTI will form government.

The opposition’s strategy is quite clear too. No dharnas, no boycotts, no rallies. They have figured out that they don’t need to do anything because Imran is on self-destruction mode.

What a contradiction you have just made!

So in many other posts u claim that the army is behind everything and they control Pakistan, IK is just a puppet (which I partially agree).

Here you state "the nightmare will be over soon". Well if the army is in control I dont see them going anywhere "soon". Whichever government comes in they are puppets to the army so from that perspective even if PTI government is toppled the "nightmare" isnt over yet.

Make up your mind. If the army is calling the shots then they were in PMLN and PPP reign aswell hence there is no difference between PTI, PPP and PMLN.
If PTI really is a "nightmare" compared to PPP and PMLN that suggests that these parties actually have power to make big decisions which is good news for civilian government supremacy over army.

You claiming PTI to be the biggest nightmare is thus a fallacy and a contradiction unless you, like the other posters you claim to be deluded, believe PTI government has the power to make decisions that have a substantial effect on the country without approval of the army.

The military of Pakistan wants complete control of strategic decisions and foreign policy. When M. Jinnah died in 1948 and we were yet to adopt a formal constitution, the military quickly filled the power vaccum.

Since then, they have dictated our foreign policy and our relationships with other states including India and USA. This has allowed the military to not only become excessively rich but also become the most powerful and influential institution in the country.

Although the constitution of Pakistan has declared the COAS the subordinate of the PM and the President, but in truth, the COAS is not answerable to anyone and the PM does not have the authority to defy his orders.

In the Pakistan military academy, young officers take oath on Quran. As part of the oath, they declare that they will not get involved in politics. It appears that the military officers have no problem lying over Quran for power and money.

As a result, no party in Pakistan can form federal government without accepting the fact that they will have no say when it comes to the foreign policy. If they try to interfere they are sent home.

Nawaz Sharif was removed in 2017 for two main reasons: he had adopted a pacifist approach towards India and he did not want the military to handle CPEC contracts. The Panama Leaks was just a convenient pretext.

The reason why the military will eventually be forced to act against Imran is because his government is the most incompetent one in Pakistan history.

They have ruined everything that they have touched and the unrest is growing among the public.

The military does not have the time to clean up their mess. That is why I expect them to bring back PMLN or PPP in power with obviously the same arrangement that they will not interfere when it comes to foreign policy.

Doubt it will be that easy. Heard Nawaz Sharif wanted an apology from Bajwa for sabotaging the election and demands a fresh election next year.

Shahbaz is too afraid to upset his big brother so he won't get anywhere yet again in his career. PPP alone can't get anywhere considering their poor position in the NA.

The minus Imran Khan option might be the only one left for the establishment if its true that they want new heads.

There is no minus Imran Khan option for PTI. While he is alive he is the only head of PTI for the next 10 years at least.

Exactly. The decisions that PTI needs to make with approval of Army (foreign policy defense), all the other parties had to do as well. So either they need to accept he does have power over substantial areas, and if he is not performing then they can blame him. Or they blame Army for everything and dont hold him responsible.

.

Smart strategy for PML N and PPP would be to refuse then, and let Imran Khan stay in power until 2023. They can pin the blame on him and the Army, and if they win the next election they will be in a stronger position, then if they replace him now.

There is no minus Imran Khan option for PTI. While he is alive he is the only head of PTI for the next 10 years at least.

That is for the PTI voters. But some mercenaries in the party are ready to take over if necessary.

All depends on how IK handles the situation. I hope he dissolves the assembly and emerges the hero out of it all with the narrative that no one allowed him to work. Tipu Sultan is his hero, remember?

Considering the cases pending these cronies are desperate to get back in power.

But from what I have heard Nawaz does want a fresh election. It's easy to talk for him though safe and afar from Pak.

If there is a new election now he might win if he wins enough in Punjab. I dont think PTI should hold an early election. Especially now with the current situation, too risky.

PTI MPA Uzma Kardar's basic party membership revoked for 'conduct unbecoming'

PTI's MPA in the Punjab Assembly Uzma Kardar has been shown the door over violation of party rules and "conduct unbecoming of a PTI member", a notification said.

The party's Standing Committee on Discipline and Accountability has issued a written order which states that Kardar's basic party membership has been revoked.

"You have acted in a very irresponsible manner and your conduct is unbecoming of a PTI member therefore you have been expelled from the basic membership of the party," the notice read.

"As a consequence you are also not eligible to hold any post or position at the parliamentary level," it added.

Kardar may challenge the decision within seven days with the party's appellate committee.

EcKHOkOXsAwYjAZ

According to the notification, a show cause notice was issued by the party to Kardar on June 15, "whereby you were expelled from the party for a period of one month".

It said she was asked to appear before the party's discipline committee on June 17 but the hearing was postponed due to her husband contracting COVID-19. The hearing was subsequently held on June 27.

The notice observes that Kardar's formal letter was received, that she was "heard very carefully" and the "audio clips of her conversation" provided to the party were "considered" after which the decision was taken.

The controversial audio clip

According to a report by The News, Kardar had made "disrespectful remarks" about the First Lady Bushra Bibi.

In a tweet, the premier's aide on overseas Pakistanis, Zulfi Bukhari, said: “One can’t expect her to understand the calibre of First Lady but it is extremely shameful of Uzma Kardar to be talking behind her back. PM & First Lady’s respect comes foremost for all of us. Embarrassing behaviour from anyone who claims to be associated with the party.”

The controversy stems from an audio call leaked on social media where wherein the PTI MPA can be heard saying indecent things about Bushra Bibi. She also passed remarks on the role of some Punjab government high officials.

According to the report, a source close to Kardar said that her words were taken out of context, and edited from a private conversation.

Last month, Kardar was removed by Punjab information minister Fayyaz-ul- Hassan Chohan from the Media Strategy Committee and as a spokesperson for the provincial government.

In the 2018 general elections, Kardar won a reserved seat for women as a candidate from the PTI.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry condemned defended PTI's social media team, accusing the rival PPP of targeting it in a 'campaign'.

The minister took to Twitter on Tuesday to defend the ruling party's social media team, praising them for doing 'great' work from the Pulwama to the coronavirus crises.

“From Pulwama to COVID-19, PTI’s social media team has played a great role in every crisis so far. I condemn PPP’s campaign against these young people,” he said.

The minister added that when he had suggested regulating social media and bringing in PMRA, "the same group" was against the move.

Cabinet approves law requiring social media companies to open offices in Pakistan
In February this year, the federal cabinet had approved a new set of rules to regulate social media, requiring companies such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and even TikTok to register themselves and open offices in Pakistan.

The rules and regulations had been included in the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 with senior officials in the Ministry of Information Technology confirming to Geo News that the cabinet had given the green light to the legal document.

Further, Federal Secretary IT & Telecommunication Shoaib Siddiqui had confirmed to Geo News that after the Cabinet's approval, the rules and regulations need not be presented in the Parliament for approval.

The law required digital media companies to appoint a representative in Pakistan to deal with a national coordination authority, which would be responsible to regulate content on social media platforms.

It further required the companies to set up data servers in Pakistan within a year and makes it compulsory for them to provide data of accounts found guilty of various crimes — including targeting state institutions, spreading fake news and hate speech, engaging in harassment, issuing statements that harm national security or uploading blasphemous content — to intelligence and law enforcement agencies (LEAs).

Later, the then Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan had confirmed that the government would form an authority to regulate social media websites, saying that these platforms cannot be left "completely unregulated".

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry was given the additional charge of Ministry of Law and Justice on Saturday.

The Cabinet Division in Islamabad issued a notification confirming the minister's additional designation.

The appointment comes three days after the resignation of Barrister Farogh Naseem after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) formally parted ways with the ruling party to join the opposition.

Alongside Farogh Naseem, MQM-P leader Aminul Haque also resigned from his post of Minister for Information Technology. The lawmakers had sent their resignation letters to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The MQM-P had earlier announced backing the opposition parties’ no-confidence motion against the premier in the National Assembly.

MQM-P Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui made the announcement at a news conference in Islamabad alongside the leadership of the joint opposition – leaving the ruling coalition short of seven votes in the lower house of parliament.

Following the MQM-P's support for the opposition, PM Imran's favour evaporated in the National Assembly on March 30 as leaders called for the premier's resignation.

Addressing an important press conference in Islamabad, flanked by leaders of the joint opposition, to unveil the details of the agreements signed between the opposition and MQM-P, PML-N leader Shehbaz Sharif urged the prime minister to resign and start a new chapter in the political history of Pakistan.

The Session Court on Monday extended the interim bail of the former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in violation of the section 144 case, ARY News reported.

According to the details, Additional and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Supra heard the case of the former minister in the session court.

The court approved the exemption from the court request of Fawad Chaudhry and extended his interim bail till December 12, 2023.

Meanwhile, the next hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on December 12.

Last week, the former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry was granted B-class facilities in jail.

In compliance with a court directive, Chief Commissioner Anwarul Haq appeared before the High Court in a case involving the prison facilities of Fawad Chaudhry.

During the court hearing, the Chief Commissioner presented an implementation report on former minister’s requests.

The report revealed that former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has been granted B-class facilities in jail, and as per the court’s directives, he has been permitted to meet with family and legal representatives.

According to a first information report, Fawad was arrested in a case registered at the Aabpara police station on August 22, 2022, under sections 109 (punishment of abetment if the Act abetted committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 341(punishment for wrongful restraint), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The fraud FIR was filed against the ex-PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry by the complainant Zaheer Ahmed on November 4.

In the FIR, Zaheer Ahmed claimed to handed over a sum of Rs50 million to Fawad Chaudhry and when he asked to return the amount, Fawad allegedly offered him two government jobs in exchange, and later Fawad threatened him along with his two-armed guards.

He is the main cause of the downfall of PTI.

So you never know he could become a witness against IK for his survival.
I don't think he was and nor was any other PTI guy. Dont look further the Generals and the mafia helpers. As far as him turning, that may happen because people's families are being threatened, businesses are being smashed and houses are being raided

A duty judge on Sunday handed over former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on a one-day physical remand in a fraud case.

The former federal minister will now be presented by an anti-corruption court on Monday, December 11.

The counsel for ACE sought a five-day physical remand and alleged that Fawad, through his frontman Fouq Sherbaz, was paid Rs3.5 million for providing a no-objection certificate (NOC) by a private housing scheme and the amount needs to be recovered.

The former minister was brought before the duty judge in an armoured vehicle from Adila jail.

Fawad's counsel, Faisal Chaudhry, contended that the case was false and was driven by political motives. He argued that the housing society owners have no complaints, and false charges are being fabricated without valid reasons. He further prayed that Fawad be discharged from the case and be granted bail.

During his appearance, Fawad criticized the fabrication of false cases and said "no press conference has been held to address these issues."

Previously sources told The Express Tribune that the alleged involvement of other public and private officials will be determined during the investigation. The case was registered after legal action was approved as a result of an inquiry on the source report.

Fawad Chaudhry to contest upcoming election from jail: Hiba Fawad

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Hiba Fawad, the wife of Pakistani politician Fawad Chaudhry, on Wednesday announced that her husband planned to contest upcoming election while being incarcerated.

Addressing the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Hiba said Fawad would personally spearhead the campaign from the jail.

“No other candidate will run on Fawad Chaudhry‘s ticket," she stated. She expressed her dissatisfaction with Faisal Chaudhry’s conduct, hinting at legal action.

She said further proceedings had been postponed until Dec 19 as the case of contempt of election commission against the former PTI chairman and Fawad Chaudhry was called off.

She complained she had to cover a long distance in the jail to reach her husband and the IG jail should resolve the issue.

I don't think he is going to win the seat on his own. Since he has left PTI so I guess he's going to contest as an independent candidate.

ECP indicts Imran, Fawad in contempt case

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) indicted former prime minister Imran Khan and ex-information minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday in a contempt case.

The four-member bench led by ECP member Nisar Durrani charged the two politicians today while hearing the case at Rawalpindi Central Jail where both, the PTI founder and former member were incarcerated in different cases.

The court adjourned the hearing till January 16.

The PTI’s counsel requested the ECP to not carry on with the indictment today since the head of the party’s legal team, Shoaib Shaheen, was busy at the Supreme Court (SC). He also pleaded against the jail trial.

However, the electoral body dismissed both the requests of the PTI’s lawyer.

It should not be noted that the electoral watchdog had deferred the indictment of the former premier and the former federal minister in a hearing held on December 19, 2023.

PTI lawyers' media talk

Later, speaking to the media outside Adiala jail, advocate Ali Bukhari announced that the PTI will be challenging the indictment in the high court.

PTI’s lawyer Amir Niazi told the media that there was nothing in the charge-sheet that could prove contempt. He further mentioned that Imran has asked the legal team to separate from the commission the ECP member against whom the party earlier moved the SC.

“Imran Khan was furious over the charges,” party leader Asghar Chaudhry informed the press outside the jail. “He [Imran] told the ECP members that they were biased, and that someday they will be tried under Article 6 for grave treason,” Chaudhry further added, claiming that the ECP member were shocked at this.

In a separate media talk, Fawad Chaudhry's wife, Hiba Fawad Chaudhry, said that during the hearing the former PTI leader said that there was an existing reference against one of the members of the electoral body and that he could not be a part of the hearing. “But he was still a member of the bench,” she said.

She added that Fawad was not even allowed to respond to the four show-cause notices issued against him, and was still indicted.

ECP contempt case

The electoral body had initiated contempt proceedings against Imran, Fawad and former PTI leader Asad Umar in 2022 for the language used against the chief election commissioner and the ECP, and had non-bailable arrest warrants issued against them through the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

However, in a media talk on July 20, 2021, Fawad made a verbal apology to the electoral watchdog, stressing that he had "no personal issues with the CEC or the ECP” and that he was "the PTI spokesman at the time and all statements were in accordance with the party policy."

Maintaining that he was following the PTI’s policy, he had requested the ECP to “let the matter go” as he had apologised verbally.

As the leader apologised to the ECP for his statements, the CEC said he had "insulted the ECP. Your party chairman used disrespectful language against my wife."

However, the ECP then ordered the former minister to issue a written apology before adjourning the hearing until August 1.

On November 23, Fawad unconditionally apologised to the ECP, urging them to quell the contempt case against him.

However, the three politicians challenged the ECP notices, protesting that Section 10 of the Election Act 2017 was against the Constitution of Pakistan. They had also sought relief from contempt proceedings from the high courts, instead of appearing before the ECP.

Election tribunal allows Fawad to contest elections from Jhelum

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry was granted permission by an election tribunal on Friday to contest elections from Jhelum for the NA 60 and NA 61 constituencies.

The objections raised by the returning officer (RO) against his nomination papers were rejected, paving the way for him to contest the upcoming elections.

Justice Chaudhary Abdul Aziz, while accepting the appeal, rejected the objections of the ROs from both constituencies and allowed Fawad to contest the election. Speaking to the media after appearing in the accountability court, Fawad said he had yet to decide which party to contest from.

Previously on Jan 3, the ECP indicted former prime minister Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry in a contempt case held inside Adiala Jail.

Both Imran and Fawad appeared before the four-member bench led by an ECP provincial member from Sindh, Nisar Durrani. Both politicians pleaded not guilty when the bench read out the charge sheet.

The proceedings were attended by ECP’s lawyers and counsels for Imran and Fawad, including Barrister Ali Bukhari, Barrister Umair Niazi, and the former minister’s wife, Hiba Fawad. The bench adjourned the case till January 16.

Former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is currently being run by "amateurs," while lauding the crucial role of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in navigating Pakistan's political landscape

Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, Fawad stressed that politics in Pakistan is at a critical juncture, with the coming week expected to shape the country’s political future, Express news reported.

He noted that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s leadership has been instrumental in managing the opposition and showing political wisdom during negotiations with the government.

Fawad also pointed out that Fazl's opposition to military courts and changes to the judiciary's structure has boosted his political standing.

"The hopes of the Pakistani people are tied to Fazlur Rehman’s role in these crucial times," he said, adding that PTI, despite being the largest party, lacks effective leadership.

The former minister criticised PTI’s current leadership, accusing them of being inconsistent in their approach to protests and political strategy. He urged key figures like Dr Arif Alvi, Omar Ayub, and Asad Qaiser to take on more responsibility and address the concerns of PTI’s jailed members and the opposition.

Meanwhile, in an accountability court, a hearing for a corruption case involving Chaudhry regarding road construction in Jhelum was adjourned until November 11, after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) requested more time to submit its report.

Fawad and this PTI leadership can get lost. The Junta knew that Murad was the real leader in waiting and they threatened to kill him if he stayed in public view. Our Junta spends 1/2 of the National budget on buying and controlling politicians so that they can get big plots and live in luxury while 248mn out of the 250mn live hand to mouth. This isn't our army, it's becoming an occupying force that rules by dividing and ruling.
