Key decisions taken in IPL Governing Council meeting regarding TATA IPL 2022 SeasonThe IPL Governing Council at its meeting held yesterday made the following key decisions regarding the TATA IPL 2022 Season. The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in a bio-secure environment at a single hub to avoid air travel which is considered as a major threat for the spread of COVID-19 infection, thereby affecting the players and the League/matches.The tournament will kickstart from 26th March, 2022 and the final will be played on 29th May, 2022. A total of 70 league matches will be played across four international standard venues in Mumbai and Pune. The venue for the playoff matches will be decided later.

All teams will play:4 matches each at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium.3 matches each at Brabourne Stadium (CCI) and MCA International Stadium, Pune. The 10 teams will play a total of 14 league matches (7 home matches and 7 away matches) totalling to 70 league matches, followed by the 4 playoff matches. Each team will play 5 teams twice and the remaining 4 teams only once (2 only home and 2 only away). To decide on the above, teams have been assigned in two virtual groups based on the number of IPL Championships won followed by the number of Final matches played by the respective teams.

The details of the teams having won the IPL Championships and number of times each of them has played a final match is listed below:

Each team will play twice with the teams in their group and with the team in the same row in the second group. With the rest of the teams in the second group they will play only once during the season. For Example: In Group A, MI will play 2 matches each against KKR, RR, DC, LSG. MI will also play 2 matches against CSK and 1 match each against other teams in Group B.Similarly, in Group B, RCB will play 2 matches against CSK, SRH, PBKS and GT. RCB will also play 2 matches against RR and 1 match each against other teams in Group A.

Sad reality of the covid live we inhabit/the new normal, those pitches will take a pounding. Hopefully at the tournament end they will still be even bounced and offer something to all trades of bowlers and batsmen and not be a lottery decided on who wins the toss like in the t20wC

So 26th March to 29th May.

That is more than 2 months of IPL cricket

:virat

I am sure the fans of teams from other cities are not happy. But I am sure regular service of home and away, as the IPL has always been will resume starting next year.

Why is this circus so long? IPL.shoukf be one month at the max. ICC needs to step in and cut IPL's length. It's not right for there to be a whole 2 months window with no international cricket.

2 months is very long and exhausting. A tournament should max be 6 weeks. If they want to accomodate more teams then they have to increase the double headers even on regular working days

Also, on the one hand I respect the format, which means that all teams will exactly the same amount of league matches they used to play in the 8 team league. The drawback is that it’s a system not easily explained to the laymen.

Actually, the ICC is the one that cut a deal with IPL for this window in return for ICC tournaments. They will not step in.

A tournament can be any length as long as there is demand. If there is no demand, the length will automatically shrink. Economics and market forces will automatically take over.

I appreciate that all the players are getting PAID for the IPL but that two month bubble, all in the same city/hotel is going to be brutal.

I agree. Will be tough on players, staff. But hoping this will be the last such instance. Should be back to normal by next IPL season as things start getting back to normal everywhere.

If something like PSL can run for a month, IPL certainly can run for two.

1.ICC doesn't control domestic tournaments.

2. Australia will be playing Pak at the start of the IPL and English will be playing at the end. So don't know who told you about the no international cricket thing.

3. ICC members desperately wanted 8 ICC tournaments in the next cycle. India agreed to play only 6. Then ICC members cut a deal with bcci for a longer IPL in return for IND playing in the 8 ICC tournaments.

That schedule sounds depressing and exhausting if I'm being honest, (I'm not looking to annoy any IPL fans).

From what I have read, there seems to be a huge appetite for IPL from the Indian fans and expats. If there is demand there will be supply. The free market at work.

What is exhausting for some is excitement for others. Everyone has a choice.

Side effect of BCCI getting too much power and money. :inti

Are these the same fans and expats who were criticising IPL and it's schedule when India failed in yet another ICC tournament? :inti

2 months of blockbuster coming for cricket fans.

My only problem with IPL is that players who are uncapped in Test Cricket shouldn't be paid more than 10 crore. The likes of Samson and Kishan don't deserve 15 crores money at such young age. One has to work much more harder to fetch that sort of reward.

If this continues, I will tell my future kids to become a proper T20 format power hitter batsman and don't give a **** about technique and temperament nonsense. In two years of IPL cricket, he will fetch what we actually dreamt of and that is without even delivering the same level of dedication and commitment as required for that reward. These are cheap moolahs that is getting distributed.

Chalk that up to fickle mindedness. People do play the blame game. The appetite for IPL though is unquestionable. I bet there was more discussion in India about IPL than during the actual series vs NZ, WI and current SL.

This grouping of teams is only for this year. Next year the media rights would change and it would be back to round robin format where 10 teams will play each other twice. So it will be even longer tournament from next season.

This is so wrong and unfair. An employee is worth what an employer is willing to pay.

In this case, Samson and Kishan settled for the 3 year $6 million contract because they think/believe that they got more than what they wanted. In case of MI and RR, they believe that the two of them are worth more than the $6 million amount.

I am not saying people cannot have an opinion. But just that people (third party) should not act/take steps to block someone from maximizing their earning. That is wrong. In this case I am sure it is just your opinion.

Yes, I believe from next year, with the new broadcast deal in place, the regular season is going to be somewhere around 96 games.

Please leave this thread for the IPL Schedule and discuss other issues.

Yes, I believe from next year, with the new broadcast deal in place, the regular season is going to be somewhere around 96 games.

96 games over 2 months is true over saturation. The 8 team model is good in that it satisfies viewers without exhausting them. With this years format, 70 games, while still a lot is about ok.

Now imagine next year when we are into game 82, viewers will have a reduced interest until the playoffs at least, (if you’re keeping the same playoff format). If you recall the two seasons with Kochi Tuskers and that other Pune team, it certainly felt that way with the round robin in that season. The current format for this year is better, but I guess the BCCI have made their bed.

Also, let’s not forget the churn on the players as well.

Who came up with the format, why is it so complicated

This is to keep the schedule within the parameters of the existing broadcasting agreement. So they come up with a schedule that keeps each team to 14 games each even with two extra teams.

That is why there are IPL fans and ones that are not. There is a choice. If there is a demand next season then things will continue with the expanded games. Eyeballs are the key. Market forces will take care of things.

Are these the same fans and expats who were criticising IPL and it's schedule when India failed in yet another ICC tournament? :inti

No, they are different sets of fans.

If you live in India, you could've noticed that there is a new breed of fans who doesn't care about Indian cricket and only watch IPL.

The 8 team tournament was successful and wasn't overkill then whose idea is this to add two extra teams? no point in playing these many matches.

There is nothing wrong with adding extra teams, it adds to the opportunities for the players and the competition in the league, the challenge is to ensure that the overall tournament does not stretch to the point where the patience of the spectators is not tested and the viewers don't become fatigued. Need to then ensure that you have more double headers

Chalk that up to fickle mindedness. People do play the blame game. The appetite for IPL though is unquestionable. I bet there was more discussion in India about IPL than during the actual series vs NZ, WI and current SL.

It can also be attributed to the greed and selfishness of the ICC and its members.

I am pretty sure you guys do not live in India. I know most of you just want to show off in front of Pakistani fans here but reality is different. Real fans are getting tired of IPL nonsense. They want to see India play international cricket. You are calling it demand from IPL fans for more matches whereas in reality it is BCCI's greed for more money. If ICC is greedy then it is surely thinking about all its board members whereas BCCI is greedy for itself only and throwing the game in gutters. You think you represent all indians here and try to shut people up. Read some of the tweets from Indian fans on this link :

They are also Indians and there are lakhs of them who also think that this is an overkill. You just need to start living in India first to observe and experience that. :91: :inti

I don't know about others, but I am certainly in India. I have never stepped out of India. In fact, I don't even have a passport.

IPL is getting record breaking eye balls in India. Thats the truth. No amount of gymnastics by haters going to change it

Karachi has 2 stadiums ie National Stadium and Defence Stadium and will also have Rafi Stadium soon. Wish the PCB would divide the games equally bw these stadiums to reduce the load on the pitches

Then why viewers increasing? Think they're not real fans..

It seems to me too much IPL cricket is forced down some fans throat now. How many of you actually watch it? I know some of you want to show off here in front of Pakistanis but IPL is nothing more than a cheap source of entertainment. You can compare it with fast foods which looks good occasionally but having too much of it is not good for health. Only eating the real food keeps one's health in good condition. It may be looking like a mumbo jumbo to you right now but you and others will slowly realise the damage IPL and other leagues have done to International cricket. :inti

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to welcome fans back to the stadiums in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), starting from March 26.

The matches will be played across stadiums in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai & Pune with a spectators occupancy rate of 25% as per Covid-19 protocols. A total of 70 league matches will be played across four international standard venues in Mumbai and Pune. The venue for the playoff matches will be decided later.

Four-times winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will lock horns with two-times champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on March 26th.

“This match will be a momentous occasion as the 15th edition of the IPL will welcome the fans back to the stadiums after a brief hiatus owing to the pandemic,” BCCI said in a statement.

“Ardent cricket fans are all set to witness nail-biting matches, cheering for their favourite players at the most anticipated cricket tournament of all time.”

In all, 20 matches each will be held at Wankhede Stadium & DY Patil Stadium, 15 matches each at Brabourne and MCA International stadium, Pune.

The IPL will be a ten-team affair this season after the Indian board added two new teams: Ahmedabad’s Gujarat’s Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

IPL 2022: ‘Terrorists Did A Recce Of Team Hotel And Wankhede Stadium’. Security Stepped Up In Mumbai

IPL Terror Threat: Mumbai Police have been alerted about a terrorist attack during this year's IPL and subsequently, the security has been beefed up in the financial capital.

A terror threat is looming large over the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS), during their interrogation, found out that terrorists had done a recce of the Wankhede Stadium, Trident Hotel, and the surrounding road. Wankhede is set to host 20 matches of the IPL 2022.

Mumbai Police have been alerted about a terrorist attack during this year's IPL and subsequently, the security has been beefed up in the financial capital.

In the backdrop of these confessions by terrorists, the security cover for players and support staff of IPL teams has been increased. Quick Response Team, Bomb Squad, State Reserve Police Force deployed for security from March 26 to May 22.

Security Guidelines have been released by the police in an internal circular that needs to be followed by franchises as well as the staff associated with IPL.

ABP Live got hold of this circular and below are some of the guidelines:

- IPL team's buses will be escorted by a combat vehicle.

- Parking of cars won't be allowed from the team hotel to the stadium. A separate Emergency exit has to be designated for the safety of players.

- The bus drivers and other workers will undergo thorough checks. They won't be changed during the course of the IPL.

- Prior permission needs to be taken from the team manager if a player is expecting a visitor.

- The hotel staff will not be allowed to enter without identification proof.

With the IPL just days away, this news has put the Mumbai police on high alert. The IPL will be played across four stadiums: Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and MCA Stadium, Pune.

Ahmedabad To Host IPL 2022 Final and Qualifier 2, Kolkata Gets Two Play-off MatchesThe Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 playoffs and final will be played from May 24 to May 29 in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, the BCCI said in a statement

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022's schedule for the IPL playoffs and final was announced by the BCCI on Tuesday. "As far as the men's IPL knock-out stage matches are concerned, it would be held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, with hundred percent attendance allowed for the matches to be played after the league staged finishes on May 22," Sourav Ganguly, BCCI president, had earlier said after a BCCI apex council meeting of the board on April 23.

"The Women's T20 Challenge to be played from 23rd May to 28th May will be held in Pune," the BCCI statement further added.

Apparently its compared to last season, when everything was closed in India during wave 2. So there is no way that the ratings will be same.

Secondly there are people in the stadium and many streaming it.

The ratings should be compared to the 2019 season.

Actually, I think IPL season will eventually end up at 3 months. I think it has at least one more expansion of two more teams. Perhaps 7-8 years down the road. But I don't think it will ever go beyond 3 months.

I guess so. Likely will drop a bit more next season as normal home and away resumes and 100% capacity is allowed at stadiums.

Pre pandemic most watched matches were over weekend especially on Saturday night where lot of people went out to pubs and bars for drinks and watching games.
The stadiums were always full and hopefully in coming years it will be back to full capacity again.

Lol in one city Mumbai how many Cricket stadiums are there.

Dy patil is in new bombay ( Navi Mumbai )
Brabourbe and wankhede are in north Mumbai

Rizwi / andheri can be used for cricket too but mainly used for Ranji

In addition , there are few railway grounds , race course grounds etc besides shivaji park , azad maidan and other places where Cricket is taught / played for local tourneys. Mumbai is blessed with decent weather and infrastructure to host the entire IPL .

I am still waiting for the BARC official data.

"As per data sourced from subscribers of BARC India, the first eight matches of the IPL 2022 scored a TVR of 2.52, compared to a TVR of 3.75 in the last season. Overall reach of the first week also dropped 14% to 229.06 million, down from 267.7 million in the last year for all India, 2+ years population. Even during the pre-Covid time (2019), the overall reach was at 268 million, while ratings were at 3.85 TVR."

But the excuse given for continuing with the tournament during the Delta Wave was that it gave people a few hours of respite from all the bad news?

It did and thats why the ratings were sky high. And since people are now going about their normal life, and not locked in at their homes, ratings have fallen ba bit.
