Charu Sharma looks so tired..poor guy.

Why cant they have 2 auctioneer?

He had guests at home and Charu Sharma had not even tuned in to the television set when he got a call from Brijesh Patel on Saturday (February 12) afternoon. "Put on your shoes and come here," the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mentioned on the phone. "There is an emergency." He did not know why but agreed to rush there.

"I live next door, not very far from the hotel," he recalled "When I reached, I was told what had happened to Hugh Edmeades - the original IPL auctioneer from England, who fell off the dais due to Postural Hypotension. I said 'fine, let's do it. We had a 15-minute session. I inquired about what all had been conducted and what was left to do. The IPL officials then asked me if the break should be extended. I said 'don't'. I had some fun."

Lucknow and PBKS have a really strong squad. On paper they look a class above rest.

Punjab always pick good players, Last two season also they had strong team.
KL single handedly destroyed Punjab chances, he himself plays 10 overs selfish batting, tactically inept and clusess captain.

Punjab left him, now he will destroy Lucknow.:))

Kids who haven't achieved anything in their life yet but bidding for many achievers who came from humble background.

Show off dolls.

Finally Rassie gets bought at the last moments, rajasthan royals played it really smart this auction.

Happy for Alex Hales , he really deserved an ipl contract.

Jason Roy going for only 2 crore is astonishing

Lots of Sri Lankans got picked this time which is something that hasn't happened for years. Wonder if it is because they all had a really low base price.

Yes Rajasthan played it pretty smart. They knew if they go for Rassie or a couple of other players earlier, they will either lose them or end up paying a lot more as other franchise will also bid just to make sure they don't get him cheaply.

But picking him in final round means only limited price were left for others also to bid and hence it is easier to buy at lesser price. Guess KKR and Gujarat Lions also did the same.

Yes and also availability.

Plus there are 3 SL coaches spread across teams - Sanga (Rajasthan), Mahela (Mumbai) and Murali (CSK). They must have some inputs on SL players.

So many of the IPL team looks unbalanced. So many average players made the list and will play a leading role in the team. Before going 10 teams IPL should have changed foreign quota to 5 and allowed Pakistani players in the team.

Probably explains the abundance of New Zealanders at CSK too

Nice team selection by MI. They went pretty good in last phase to pick up Meredith, Mills and David. All good T20 performers.

This explains why they save their best for IPL only especially Pandya who is an average player. :inti

The bigger problem is the guy's attitude sucks. Can manage with an average cricketer if that guy is hardworking, honest and humble. This guy is an entitled brat with more failures than success and a really bad role model for any young cricketer.

Chennai virtually with the same squad as the one they won last year in + have made upgrades.

Conway > Faf (Faf was great for us, but sadly he's nearing the end)

Milne > Ngidi (Milne is faster and will definitely be better than Ngidi at the death)

S Dube is a great addition that gives us firepower + batting depth + extra bowling option

All in all, a great auction for CSK. Others might look better on paper, but this is a proven team with great additions.

Here is the entire list of 203 players sold during two busy days of the mega-auction hosted in Bengaluru.

Interesting to see IPL following Pakistani trend and also branching out into tennis ball superstars. Ramesh Kumar drafted for KKR is a tennis ball star known as Narine Jalalabad famous for hitting 50 in 10 balls in a tennis ball tournament. He's in after a private trial for KKR.

Yeah and he is still earning in millions. Upcoming youngsters will most likely follow his career path. :inti

Several top Indian and international stars went under the hammer in the two-day IPL Auction in Bangalore for the 15th season of the Indian Premier League.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction stayed true to its nature of changing lives and fortunes forever. Across two days in Bangalore, a total of 204 players were bought at the auction for a combined price of INR 550 Crore (approximately USD 73 million).

While there were several players for whom the franchises splashed the cash and beat off intense bidding wars to acquire their services, there were some smart bargain buys that could prove to be difference-makers in the upcoming IPL season.

In this article, we take a look at the highly-ranked players in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Rankings that were bought at bargain prices.

Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan)
Auction Price: Bought by Kolkata Knight Riders at base price of INR 1 Crore
ICC T20I Rankings: #1 for all-rounders

Kolkata Knight Riders snapped up the services of the top-ranked ICC all-rounder on day two of the auction after he went unsold on day one.

Apart from a blip in October 2021, The Afghanistan star has been ruling the roosts in the ICC T20I all-rounders Rankings since November 2019. He led Afghanistan in the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup where they in with the chance to qualify for the semi-finals until their very last Super 12 game against New Zealand.

Since the start of last year, Nabi has scored 207 in 11 T20Is at an average of 29.57 and strike rate of 128.57. He has been handy with the ball as well, picking up four wickets in an economy of 8.08.

Even at 37 years of age, Nabi is a game-changer with both the bat and ball. A globetrotter in franchise cricket, the Afghan star will bring also a wealth of experience to his new IPL side.

Aiden Markram (South Africa)
Auction Price: Bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 2.6 Crore
ICC T20I Rankings: #3 for batters, #9 for all-rounders

Aiden Markram sparked a short bidding war between three teams for his services and eventually, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad who bought him for INR 2.6 Crore.

Despite making his T20I debut in 2019, he only played three matches in the next two years and it was only in 2021 that he became a permanent fixture in the Proteas line-up. Ranked 159th in the ICC Rankings for batters in April 2021, he has quickly climbed the charts and now occupies a top 10 spot in the all-rounders' Rankings as well.

He was South Africa's second-highest run-getter in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup with 162 runs at an average of 54 and a strike rate of 145.94. He has even been handy with the ball of late, making him an attractive all-round package for the T20 format.

Devon Conway (New Zealand)
Auction Price: Bought by Chennai Super Kings at base price of INR 1 Crore
ICC T20I Rankings: #7 for batters

Acquired at a base price of INR 1 Crore by Chennai Super Kings, New Zealand's Devon Conway has been regarded as one of the smartest buys of the auction.

Devon Conway made his T20I debut only in November 2020 and his stocks have only continued to rise ever since. In 20 matches, he has 602 runs at an average of 50.16 and strike rate of 139.35.

He played a vital role in New Zealand's run into the finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, scoring 129 runs in difficult conditions. He was unfortunate to injure himself in the semi-final and was ruled out of the grand finale, which the Kiwis lost.

Devon Conway offers a lot of flexibility in the batting order and can slot in at any of the top five positions. He can also double up as a wicket-keeper, if need be, as he did for New Zealand in the T20 World Cup.

Rassie van der Dussen (South Africa)
Auction Price: Bought by Rajasthan Royals for at base price of INR 1 Crore
ICC T20 Rankings: #8 for batters

Rassie van der Dussen was bought by Rajasthan Royal in the accelerated auction at base price in the last few minutes of the auction on day two, after he went unsold on day one.

Rassie made his Proteas debut for South Africa in 2018 and has quickly become a vital cog of the Proteas T20I machinery. In 34 matches, he has 933 runs at an average of 38.87 and a strike rate of 130.85. He was South Africa's leading run-scorer in the 2021 Men's World Cup with 177 runs and a high score of 94* that came against England.

Slotting in the middle-order, the Proteas star can drop the anchor and accelerate at will. With several explosive batters around him, he could be the player who holds the batting line-up together.

Jason Roy (England)

Auction Price: Bought by Gujarat Titans at base price of INR 2 Crore
ICC T20I Rankings: #15 for batters

New IPL franchise Gujarat Titans got one of the most explosive openers in the game currently, Jason Roy, at a bargain price of INR 2 Crore.

Watch how Jason Roy became a Match Hero for England against Sri Lanka in Match 29 of the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016.
The hard-hitting English star has been a pivotal part of England's white-ball dominance in the last few years. In T20Is, he has scored 1446 runs in 58 matches, striking at a whopping 143.45. He played a big role in England's run into the semi-finals of the 2021 World Cup but missed his services after he was injured in the final Super 12 game.

Capable of hitting the ball out of the park from ball one, Roy is someone who can take the game away from the opposition within the first few overs. With vast experience on his side, Roy could make the new IPL franchise a force to be reckoned with.

The purse this year was 12mn. Hopefully if we have a mega tv rights deal, the purse will go to 15mn next year.

Several top Indian and international stars went under the hammer in the two-day IPL Auction in Bangalore over the weekend, ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League.

The IPL Auction stayed true to its nature of changing lives and fortunes. Across two days in Bangalore, a total of 204 players were bought at the auction for a combined price of INR 550 Crore (approximately USD 73 million).

While there were several players who turned out to be quite the bargain picks at the auction table, a few players sparked intense bidding wars among the ten franchises who were quite willing to splash the cash.

In this article, we take a look at the lower-ranked players in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Rankings that were bought at high prices.

Only players with more than 10 T20I appearances, and a ranking lower than 25, have been considered for the list.

Among the marquee set of players, Warner fetched a big price in the IPL auctions, although it is a measure of Warner's quality and accomplishments that it was still considered a bargain. When Warner's name came up, it sparked a bidding war between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, with the latter eventually winning the rights to his services.

Warner has had an impressive career in the IPL but struggled in the previous edition. In eight innings, he could only notch up 195 runs at an average of 24.37 and a strike-rate of 107.73.

The Australian though managed to regain his best form at the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World World Cup, where he was named the Player of the Tournament for playing some crucial knocks as his side were crowned the champions. He scored 289 runs at 48.16, striking at 146.70.

Even at the age of 35, Warner's wealth of experience and fearsome striking ability will make him a risk worth taking for the Capitals. Along with Prithvi Shaw, he could form the most exciting opening pair in the tournament, and the chance to work under Ricky Ponting will surely be an added bonus.

Liam Livingstone (England)

Auction Price: Bought by Punjab Kings at INR 11.5 crore from a base price of 1 crore

Though bought primarily as an all-rounder who could chip in a few overs of spin with the ball, Liam Livingstone will be expected to do the damage with the bat, where he will act as a finisher for Punjab Kings.

Livingstone is still finding his footing in the England T20I set-up, moving in and out of the side – a fact reflecting his ranking of 72 among all-rounders – but his potential to strike a clean hit is unquestionable.

In 2021, Livingstone was impressive whenever he was given a chance in the England T20I side. He notched up 236 runs in 12 matches at an average of 33.71 and a strike-rate of 177.44 with one century. He also picked up eight wickets.

He also impressed in the maiden edition of The Hundred, where he was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for scoring 348 runs and picking up five wickets.

Livingstone sparked an intense bidding war with no less than five franchises throwing their hat in the ring for his services. Eventually, Punjab Kings had their man. He was the most expensive overseas purchase in the 2022 auction.

Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies)

Auction Price: Bought by Rajasthan Royals at INR 8.5 crore from a base price of 1.5 crores

Shimron Hetmyer once again sparked interest from franchises in his services despite his career so far blowing hot and cold.

In 2021, he played 15 T20Is, scoring 287 runs at 26.09 and striking at 121.09 with two fifties. Overall, he played 42 T20Is with 666 runs to his name at a strike-rate of 118.72.

In the IPL, Hetmyer has previously represented Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, but has struggled for consistency. He averages 25.85 in the tournament and has scored 517 runs in 31 matches.

But his potential to clear the ropes at will is there for all to see which has led to Rajasthan investing heavily in him in order to make him a cornerstone of their middle-order. They eventually beat off Delhi Capitals, who were quite keen to bring him back to the franchise, shelling out a big amount from their purse.

Romario Shepherd (West Indies)

Auction Price: Bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad at INR 7.75 crore from a base price of 75 lakh.

Since making his international debut in 2020, Shepherd has impressed one and all with his all-round abilities. Impressive with the ball and able to deliver some big blows down the order, Shepherd can be a real game-changer on his day.

This perhaps explains why four franchises were interested in his services during the accelerated auctions with Sunrisers Hyderabad eventually beating Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings for his services.

IPL Auction High JumpsIPL Auction High Jumps
In 44 T20 matches, Shepherd has scored 315 runs striking at 161.53 while also claiming an impressive 53 wickets at 21.18. On the international stage, Shepherd has played 14 matches, aggregating 117 runs and picking up 12 wickets.

He is very much a part of West Indies' plan as they rebuild their T20 unit and the series against India will be a big opportunity for the Guyanese all-rounder to showcase why the franchises were willing to go big to procure his services.

Lockie Ferguson (New Zealand)

Auction Price: Bought by Gujarat Titans at INR 10 crores from a base price of 2 crores
ICC T20I Ranking: #62 for bowlers

With pace to burn, Lockie Ferguson was a player who was on the shortlist of many franchises. Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants were all interested in his services but it was the new side Gujarat Titans who eventually got their man.

The reasoning behind going big for Ferguson is quite simple – he bowls at an express pace mixed in with clever variations and is a proven wicket-taker both at the international and franchise cricket level.

But he has had some bad luck with injuries which also makes him a gamble at such a high price. He has played 15 T20Is for New Zealand and picked up 24 wickets at a brilliant average of 15.40. The number of matches would have been quite higher if not for a series of unfortunate injuries, and it's also meant he's ranked 62 among T20I bowlers.

He has also impressed in the IPL, previously playing for Rising Pune Supergiant and Kolkata Knight Riders. In 22 matches, he has picked up 24 scalps at an economy rate of a shade over 8.

His quality has never been in question. But getting a fit and firing Lockie Ferguson for the 2022 edition of the tournament will be the biggest challenge for the Gujarat Titans in their maiden campaign.

Does anyone have a mathematical equation or physics theory to explain why Eoin Morgan goes from captain of an IPL franchise to being unsold?

Performance. You have to perform and perform at a high level. They are not being paid millions to take it easy. The IPL is serious business. The franchises are very unkind and ruthless on non performers.

Except MI-CSK, other franchisees chop and change a lot. KKR love changing captains mid-season as well.

Most of the other franchisees assume overhauling squad year after year, changing captains is solution to their problems. It's not worked, but they still keep doing it.

Morgan had a poor run, but the guy is a proven player and captain to discard him like that.. just shows what kinda planning goes behind the scene, complete harakiri.

Just imagine injecting all of these players in the current PSL

The tournament would be the most stellar in its history

So Jason Roy has pulled out of IPL league, a lesson for those who said Roy is playing PSL to get auctioned in IPL.

The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 26, with the final slated for May 29. The 65-day extravaganza is set to feature 10 teams with 74 matches to be played. With two new teams entering the cash-rich league starting with the 15th edition; both the matches and the window has increased and faced criticism from a few journalists and former cricketers.

While the league has been on target of the former cricketers', especially after England's Ashes debacle, a journalist took a dig at the league saying that this time the IPL window will be taking 1/6th of the year.

Talking about the criticism the IPL has faced in the last few months in detail on his YouTube channel, Team India and Rajasthan Royals off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that the major disadvantage the franchises will face this year will be the availability of the players given the extension of the time window of the league. Players of countries like Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, England will be involved in the matches for their respective teams and will arrive at least 10 days after the start of the league.

However, he said that a few nations schedule their international fixture keeping IPL in mind. However, since the IPL is kicking off on March 26 this year in place of April 8/9 (as usual), many teams will be suffering because of this.

"But mostly, South Africa, Australia, England, and New Zealand, schedule their international games based on IPL fixtures. This year, New Zealand are not having any international matches during IPL.

“Lawrence Booth (English journalist) had tweeted about IPL fixtures saying it takes almost one-third (one-sixth) of the year. Even the English Premier League happens and almost has a six-month window. The players will have more gaps between matches and they will have only one or two matches per week. Of course, cricket getting to that stage will always remain a huge question mark. But IPL as a league has all the potential to take cricket into that stage for sure. And all the cricket viewers, cricket nations, stakeholders know this already,” said Ashwin.

After England's 4-0 drubbing against Australia in the 2021/22 Ashes series, many cricketers such as Michael Atherton, David Gower slammed IPL as one of the reasons for Joe Root and Co.'s lacklustre performance Down Under.

Taking the example of the Premier League clashing with other football leagues, Ashwin said that in cricket there windows are getting shortened by each day with the increase in the number of the leagues around the world and called the criticism of the league time and again unnecessary.

"Whereas in cricket, we have a 50-over World Cup, World Test Championship, T20 World Cup, and add to that, we need to have windows for all these leagues as well, like IPL, PSL, T10 league, CPL, BBL, etc. In England, they have Hundred-ball competition and add to that, they have a T20 Blast as well. There are so many leagues being started every year.

“IPL has been under the radar for so many years now. Suddenly, some ex-cricketer will say something bad about IPL without any reason. Imagine the situation in 2008 or 2010. There were only 20-25 cricketers who would be in the Indian setup for representing Team India,” said Ashwin.

Talking about his experience when he started off in the IPL, the 35-year old said, "Even when I started, my parents and grandparents asked me if cricket will help me to support financially. Only 15-20 or 25 cricketers will get opportunities in a 10-year span. But now, because of the IPL, at least 75-80 Indian cricketers are getting opportunities every year."

Ashwin, after playing for the Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will feature in the league for his fifth franchise after RR signed him for INR 5 crore at the mega auction last month.
