IPL 2024 Auction thread (December 19, Dubai)

Conspiracy theorists must be hiding who think foreign players don't perform well against India to get IPL contracts. Lol

In fact it's just the opposite.
Exactly they play so well to get top dollar in IPL. Foreign players laughing all the way to the bank. Good on em

So that's the annual salary for the duration of the contract, minus any games missed, injured etc? Am I right? So Archer was among the highest paid English players in the IPL, does he get the money if he's unable to play?

If he withdraws he doesn't get paid.

If he gets injured while playing for KKR he gets paid in full.

Damn guys :( How much i have to work see that kind of money.
You cannot make that money even working in US or UK. What we can earn in 10 years, they earn in 2 months. Of course, it is tough for players to make it to that level, but it is unbelievable money.

Starc can happily retire with that money. That's worth a generational wealth.

The amount of money IPL is giving....If it was their in my childhood, I probably would have taken cricket as career option and not be doing Python coding in office now. I used to be a decent phaast bowler by our trundling standards and would have fetched good £££'s

:akhtar
Some of the Indian trundlers like Yash Dayal, Unadkat are getting close to 1 crore in 2 months. Bowlers like Hazlewood, Lockie Ferguson cannot find a team :))

CUmmins is not a good T20 bowler either. He regularly got thrashed around in IPL. Hazlewood looked better. Guys like Smith/Hazlewood must be fuming when Starc/Cummins go for 45 crores. I understand Head going for 6.8 crores.

Head is worth more than Starc and Cummins combined.

Both Starc and Cummins are mediocre T20 bowlers.

If the PCB and the PSL authorities had any brain cells, they would have held the PSL draft after the IPL auction so that the unsold unpicked IPL players would have the option to register for the PSL draft

Very poor management and planning

I can understand Starc earning even though it is way too high. But some of the noobs becoming a milliionaire without doing anything is inexplicable.

Bumrah must be thinking he should go to the auction next year. 4-5mn usd is given

KKR has another joke of an auction.

Spends too much on Starc.

Left with no money to buy a quality Indian wk or quality Indian batter.

If Gurbaz struggles. Its over for KKR.

Franchise owners have too much money. Starc is a terrible T20 bowler and he is very old. He will be carted around and will get injured soon.

I remember when Unadkat got paid a million dollars to bowl left arm medium pace :yk

How one drop catch ends up destroying a cricket career....

Mujeeb Ur Rehman went unsold. This guy used to get picked along with Rashid. But that one drop catch and that innings by Maxwell seems to have destroyed his career.

Btw Starc went for 24 carore. If i remember correctly, Rajistan Royals whole budget used to be 20-25 carore in the first ever ipl.

Mujeeb was picked by KKR.

Yes, thats the joke.

He is a backup. They won't start with him. KKR's problem was lack of pacers which they have covered in this auction with the buy of Starc and Sakariya.

Starc, Harshit Rana and Sakariya alongwith the multiple spin options they already had, it's a good side. The only concern for them is all rounders. Relying on Russell and Narine to do both the jobs at 6 & 7 is a risk, Narine these days is batting like a tailender.

RCB has picked the worst team in this auction, they paid Yash Dayal 6 cr because they don't have enough bowlers while KKR retained Rinku Singh for 50 lakhs.

Sunrisers have made some good picks with Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Hasaranga.

IPL is a different ball game, with such crazy money who cares about international cricket

How did all 10 teams fare in IPL Auction 2024? CSK, MI master-strategists; RCB, PBKS clueless, SRH's unique problem

A total of 72 players were handed a fresh Indian Premier League (IPL) contract on Tuesday, with the 10 teams splurging a combined amount of INR 230.45 crore at the mini-auction in Dubai. Recency bias, as it has always been, played a crucial role in determining the biggest paydays, and it was the ODI World Cup which played as a crucial factor. Pat Cummins (INR 20.5 crore) and Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crore) of the World Cup-winning Australia team earned a massive contract. The others included New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra, Australia batter Travis Head, South Africa allrounder Gerald Coetzee, and Sri Lanka quick Dilshan Madushankat, who all landed big IPL deals. Uncapped Indian players also earned big bucks at the auction with the likes of UP top-order batter Sameer Rizvi, Jharkhand wicketkeeper Kumar Kushagra and Vidarbha middle-order batter Shubham Dubey dominating the chart.

Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, we take a look how each team has stacked up at the end of the riveting eight-hour auction session in Dubai...

Chennai Super Kings

Present squad strength
: 25 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Rachin Ravindra (INR 1.8 crore), Shardul Thakur (INR 4 crore), Daryl Mitchell (INR 14 crore), Sameer Rizvi (INR 8.4 crore), Mustafizur Rahman (INR 2 crore)

Players retained before auction: MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajay Mandal, Mukesh Choudhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Ajinkya Rahane, Shaik Rasheed, Mitchell Santner, Simarjeet Singh, Nishant Sindhu, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana.

Player slots available: 0

Purse remaining: INR 1 crore

How did they fare at the auction: Their biggest requirement was a replacement for Ben Stokes and they pushed hard for Pat Cummins, going as far as INR 7.6 crore, but eventually managed to sign New Zealand allrounders Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra. Mitchell, who scored two World Cup centuries against India in the recently-concluded tournament, is a big-hitter, thus making him a perfect Chepauk material as head coach Stephen Fleming admitted later on Tuesday, meanwhile, Rachin could serve as a backup for Moeen Ali, who looked off-colour in the last season. Chennai also bought back bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur while also getting Mustafizur Rahman, who could be ideal with his cutters on the sluggish Chennai conditions.

The factor that CSK took care of was getting a replacement for Ambati Rayudu. While it was expected that the five-time winners would chase experienced India batters in Karun Nair and Manish Pandey, they opted for a smarter option in 20-year-old uncapped Indian Sameer Rizvi, who wreaked havoc in the UP T20 league earlier this year with 455 runs in nine innings, laced with two centuries, at a strike rate of 188.8.

Mumbai Indians

Present squad strength
: 25 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Gerald Coetzee (INR 5 crore), Nuwan Thushara (INR 4.8 crore), Dilshan Madushanka (INR 4.6 crore), Mohammad Nabi (INR 1.5 crore), Shreyas Gopal (INR 20 lakh), Naman Dhir (INR 20 lakh), Anshul Kamboj (INR 20 lakh), Shivalik Sharma (INR 20 lakh)

Players retained before auction: Rohit Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, N. Tilak Varma, Tim David, Vishnu Vinod, Arjun Tendulkar, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya, Piyush Chawla, Akash Madhwal, Jason Behrendorff, Romario Shepherd (from LSG), Hardik Pandya (from GT)

Player slots available: 0

Purse remaining: INR 1.05 crore

How did they fare at the auction: Look at their pace-bowling attack? Besides Jasprit Bumrah and Jason Behrendorff, they now have Sri Lanka's left-armer Dilshan Madushanka, who was among the top performers in the World Cup, and Gerald Coetzee of South Africa, who can even bat lower down the order. And if that wasn't enough, they added a surprise package in Nuwan Thushara from Sri Lanka, a wannabe Lasith Malinga. But where they faltered was not going hard on finding an overseas spinner to accompany Piyush Chawla. They however picked Shreyas Gopal.

Gujarat Titans

Present squad strength
: 25 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Spencer Johnson (INR 10 crore), Shahrukh Khan (INR 7.4 crore), Umesh Yadav (INR 5.8 crore), Robin Minz (INR 3.6 crore), Sushant Mishra (INR 2.2 crore), Kartik Tyagi (INR 60 lakh), Azmatullah Omarzai (INR 50 lakh), Manav Suthar (INR 20 lakh)

Players retained before auction: David Miller, Shubman Gill, Matthew Wade, Wriddhiman Saha, Kane Williamson, Abhinav Manohar, B. Sai Sudharsan, Darshan Nalkande, Vijay Shankar, Jayant Yadav, Rahul Tewatia, Mohammed Shami, Noor Ahmad, Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan, Joshua Little, Mohit Sharma

Player slots available: 0

Purse remaining: INR 7.85 crore

How did they fare at the auction: Well they couldn't have found a like-for-like replacement for Hardik Pandya for sure, but the newly-introduced Impact Player rule will definitely allow them to compensate for that gap. They in fact roped in Azmatullah Omarzai at an uncontested price, who was one of Afghanistan's standout performer in the ODI World Cup.

Gujarat had the purse, and thus went far for Mitchell Starc before backing down to allow Kolkata Knight Riders to acquire them for record 24.75 crore fee. The Aussie would have been a better replacement for Joshua Little, but the Titans instead went for another Australian, an uncapped left-arm seamer in Spencer Johnson. They also found a back for Mohammed Shami in the experienced Umesh Yadav and young Kartik Tyagi, while they stacked their middle-order with a power-hitting option in Shahrukh Khan, who can also bowl now with his off-spin variety. The 2022 champions however missed out on getting an able replacement for Wriddhiman Saha.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Present squad strength:
25 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Travis Head (Rs. 6.80 crore), Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs. 1.5 crore), Pat Cummins (Rs. 20.50 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (Rs. 1.60 crore), Akash Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Jhathavedh Subramanyan (Rs. 20 lakh).

Players retained before auction: Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Sanvir Singh, Heinrich Klaasen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Agarwal, T. Natarajan, Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Upendra Singh Yadav, Umran Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Shahbaz Ahmed (from RCB).

Player slots available: 0

Purse remaining: INR 3.2 crore

How did they fare at the auction: If more then anything, their acquisitions on Tuesday will kind of leave a happy headache over their four overseas slots, but they do not have a strong leadership core with the addition of Australia's ODI World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins, for a massive 20.5 crore bid, to the existing group of Aiden Markram, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Agarwal. They also acquired Travis Head, who could amend their poor starts while Wanindu Hasaranga was an absolute steal deal. SRH do have an almost complete XI to count upon for the 2024 season.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Present squad strength
: 23 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crore), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (INR 2 crore), Sherfane Rutherford (INR 1.5 crore), Gus Atkinson (INR 1 crore), KS Bharat (INR 50 lakh), Chetan Sakariya (INR 50 lakh), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (INR 20 lakh), Ramandeep Singh (INR 20 lakh), Manish Pandey (INR 50 lakh), Sakib Hussain (INR 20 lakh)

Players retained before auction: Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shreyas Iyer, Jason Roy, Sunil Narine, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy.

Player slots available: 2 (0)

Purse remaining: INR 1.35 crore

How did they fare at the auction: After shelling out an eye-popping amount of 24.75 crore on one player, in what was their second acquisition, roping in Mitchell Starc after Chetan Sakariya, KKR seemed to carried themselves better through the auction in getting some good back-up players - Mujeeb Ur Rahman for Sunil Narine, KS Bharat for Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sherfane Rutherford for Andre Russell. They also roped in Gus Atkinson, English right-arm pace bowler, late in the auction to add some depth to their bowling line-up as well.

Where Kolkata missed out was working on their batting depth. While their signings show that they immensely rely on Gurbaz to perform well as an opener, they will have to trust the unproven abilities of Ramandeep Singh at No. 7, who scored 77 runs in 36 balls at a strike rate of over 200 across three innings at that position and lower at the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Present squad strength
: 25 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Alzarri Joseph (Rs. 11.50 crore), Yash Dayal (Rs. 5 crore), Tom Curran (Rs. 1.5 crore), Lockie Ferguson (Rs. 2 crore), Swapnil Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Saurav Chauhan (Rs. 20 lakh).

Players retained before auction: Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Anuj Rawat, Dinesh Karthik, Suyash Prabhudessai, Will Jacks, Mahipal Lomror, Karn Sharma, Manoj Bhandage, Mayank Dagar (from SRH), Vijaykumar Vyshak, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Himanshu Sharma, Rajan Kumar, Cameron Green (from MI).

Player slots available: 0

Purse remaining: INR 2.85 crore

How did they fare at the auction: Their trade deal for all-rounder Cameron Green left them vulnerable in their desire to chase Cummins and Starc. They were desperate, as evident from their bid of 20.25 crore for Cummins despite having a purse of 23.15, and hence probably why they didn't raise their paddle for Starc. They however managed to rope in Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Tom Curran and even Yash Dayal, but none are an ideal replacement for death-over specialist Harshal Patel. They also failed to find a substitute for Hasaranga, thus leaving their bowling unit fragile.

Lucknow Super Giants

Present squad strength:
25 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Shivam Mavi (Rs. 6.40 crore), Arshin Kulkarni (Rs. 20 lakh), M. Siddharth (Rs. 2.40 crore), Ashton Turner (Rs. 1 crore), David Willey (Rs. 2 crore), Mohd. Arshad Khan (Rs. 20 lakh).

Players retained before auction: KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Devdutt Padikkal (from RR), Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Krunal Pandya, Yudhvir Singh, Prerak Mankad, Yash Thakur, Amit Mishra, Mark Wood, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, K. Gowtham.

Player slots available: 0

Purse remaining: INR 0.95 crore

How did they fare at the auction: Given their budget constraints, a desirable auction against the likes of CSK, SRH and Gujarat, all of whom had north of INR 30 crore in their purse, was always out of the question. The addition of Paddikal through trade seemed a likeable option as it paves a way for KL Rahul to fulfil his middle-order batting hopes. But lack of experienced Indian pace options stands as a major concern, leaving bulk of the weight of their expectation on Mark Wood.

Rajasthan Royals:

Present squad strength: 22 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Rovman Powell (Rs. 7.4 crore), Shubham Dubey (Rs. 5.80 crore), Tom Kohler-Cadmore (Rs. 40 lakh), Abid Mushtaq (Rs. 20 lakh), Nandre Burger (Rs. 50 lakh).

Players retained before auction: Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Donovan Ferreira, Kunal Rathore, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa, Avesh Khan (from LSG).

Player slots available: 3 (0)

Purse remaining: INR 0.2 crore

How did they fare at the auction: They walked in with eight slots to fill with INR 14.5 crore in hand, and walked out with the smallest overall squad off 22 members and just INR 20 lakh in hand. Now that speaks volumes of what unfolded at the RR desk on Tuesday. Of the total amount, INR 13.2 crore was spent on just their first two buys in Rovman Powell and Shubham Dubey, in a bid to solidify their middle-order. They also added back-ups for Trent Boult and Jos Buttler respectively in Nandre Burger and Tom Kohler-Cadmore. But where they missed out was getting a seasoned all-rounder.

Delhi Capitals

Present squad strength
: 25 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Harry Brook (Rs. 4 crore), Tristan Stubbs (Rs. 50 lakh), Ricky Bhui (Rs. 20 lakh), Kumar Kushagra (Rs. 7.20 crore), Rasikh Dar (Rs. 20 lakh), Jhye Richardson (Rs. 5 crore), Sumit Kumar (Rs. 1 crore), Shai Hope (Rs. 75 lakh), Swastik Chhikara (Rs. 20 lakh).

Players retained before auction: Rishabh Pant, Pravin Dubey, David Warner, Vicky Ostwal, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, Abishek Porel, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Lungi Ngidi, Lalit Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Mitchell Marsh, Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Mukesh Kumar.

Player slots available: 0

Purse remaining: INR 9.9 crore

How did they fare at the auction: If anything, their auction has clearly stated that Rishabh Pant, if available, would only be playing as a batter. Delhi on Tuesday bagged as many as five wicketkeepers - two overseas in Tristan Stubbs and Shai Hope, and three Indian uncapped in Kumar Kushagra, Ricky Bhui and Sumit Kumar. They also roped in Harry Brook to strengthen their batting, with the hope that he performs better than what he managed last season at SRH. DC laos managed to get Jhye Richardson as a back-up for revcovering Anrich Nortje. Delhi however seem to lack batting depth while they will be expecting Prithvi Shaw to come good, amid no back-up Indian openers.

Punjab Kings

Present squad strength:
25 (overseas 8)

Players bought: Harshal Patel (Rs. 11.75 crore), Chris Woakes (Rs. 4.20 crore), Ashutosh Sharma (Rs. 20 lakh), Vishwanath Pratap Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Shashank Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Tanay Thyagarajann (Rs. 20 lakh), Prince Choudhary (Rs. 20 lakh), Rilee Rossouw (Rs. 8 crore).

Players retained before auction: Shikhar Dhawan, Matthew Short, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Sikandar Raza, Rishi Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Atharva Taide, Arshdeep Singh, Nathan Ellis, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Harpreet Brar, Rahul Chahar, Harpreet Bhatia, Vidwath Kaverappa, Shivam Singh.

Player slots available: 0

Purse remaining: INR 4.15 crore

How did they fare at the auction: What happened at the fag-end of the auction over the buying and trying to un-buy Shashank Singh would leave a sour taste in the mouth for PBKS. They did manage to have a decent outing in Dubai having added Harshal Patel to their squad and strengthening their pace line-up which already boasts of Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh. In the second half of the auction, they also added Rilee Rossouw and Chris Woakes as mere backup options. What they however missed out was getting back Shahrukh Khan, who, in the first place, shouldn't have been let go. They chased for the uncapped India star far enough, but probably did not go the distance in a bid to not pay more than what Shahrukh was roped in for in the previous season. But they anyhow went big on Rossouw, who will not likely bag many first-XI choices as compared to the Tamil Nadu batter who would be a certain first-choice pick.

After some intense bidding wars, here's what the 10 IPL teams look like.
Which squad do you reckon is the strongest one here?

He is a backup. They won't start with him. KKR's problem was lack of pacers which they have covered in this auction with the buy of Starc and Sakariya.

Starc, Harshit Rana and Sakariya alongwith the multiple spin options they already had, it's a good side. The only concern for them is all rounders. Relying on Russell and Narine to do both the jobs at 6 & 7 is a risk, Narine these days is batting like a tailender.

He isn't even good enough as back up.

Ideally KKR should have bought Phil Salt rather than Sherfane. Salt went unsold for 1.5cr.

KKR should have gone for Coetzee who went to MI for 5cr. A bargain for the next gen SA fast bowling star.

Next should have been Shahrukh Khan for 7-8cr.

KKR batting is as thin as a wafer. No good wk back up. If first choice batters and wk fail. KKR is done.

God knows when my city's team will get a proper owner. We are stuck with this show pony.

Look how thin that batting is!

No proper back up.

If they want to play a foreigner like Roy or Sherfane where will that guy play. The 4 overseas spots are all booked.

That's why Phil Salt was a great option in case Gurbaz failed.

Looking at some of the unsold foreign players at the IPL. These players will add so much value to the PSL. Why did the PCB and the PSL franchises not delay and hold the PSL draft after the IPL auction?

This mismanagement of the PSL seriously frustrates me

Some of the players put a very high price which is why they went unsold.

Like Smith for 2cr or $250k.

Also PSL has a salary cap of 1.2mn. There is only so many players they can afford with that cap.

Pat Cummins was quoted as saying by local Australian sports media:

"I feel like I haven't played a heap of T20 cricket and in some ways, I feel like I haven't played my best T20 cricket for a little while."

"I'm really excited ... for next year to try to get some games before that World Cup and push a case to not only make the side but to get back to how I feel like I can bowl in T20 cricket."

"I've heard a lot about the Orange Army. I've played in Hyderabad a few times and always loved it, so can't wait to get started."

"Great to see another Aussie in Trav Head over there as well. I think we are going to have a lot of fun this season and hopefully plenty of success."

Phil Salt big miss. This is a mini-auction. THings can be surprising. Rachin Ravindra smartly set his base price low at 50 lakhs. phil salts abse price 1.2 crore which is not high. But had he set at 50 lakhs he would have been picked.

Ahead of Gurbaz, Phil Salt was a good option in the IPL 2024 auction. Surprisingly, he went unsold.

Gurbaz was never released. He was always safe. But things can get crazy. Most teams already have set openers. That is why it is very hard to break into. This is where you have to set the base price smartly. Lockie did that. Eventually he got picked instead of going unsold.

If the PCB and the PSL authorities had any brain cells, they would have held the PSL draft after the IPL auction so that the unsold unpicked IPL players would have the option to register for the PSL draft

Very poor management and planning
Makes me wonder if PSL should shift its window with IPL

No proper back up.

If they want to play a foreigner like Roy or Sherfane where will that guy play. The 4 overseas spots are all booked.

That's why Phil Salt was a great option in case Gurbaz failed.

Top 5 looks solid. V Iyer, Rana are proven performers for KKR and Rinku is their X-factor player. No.6 will be Russell.

Narine at 7 & Starc at 8. Pandey can come in as impact subs if required, not in XI.

Starc
Harshit
Sakariya
Narine
VC/Suyash
Russell

That's 6 bowlers. On slower deck, they can play both VC and Suyash.

All rounder problem would have been there if they had no impact rule to make up for. But now they can play an Indian batsman as impact sub.

Unsold doesn't mean end of the road. There will be injuries. THere will be pull outs. They will go after missed back ups.

Just quickly went through the squads and the Money that players are making. Somethings caught my eye.

IPL loves Aussie players. They are making them multi millionaires. Even unknown ones.
I still cannot believe Jaydev Unadkat is making 6 Crores to bowl left arm medium pace.
Even the likes of Yash Dayal who bowls at 125-130k is getting paid 4 Crores. This is the guy that got smacked for 5 sixes by Rinku. I thought Dayal's career is over after that. But he makes a roaring comeback with an even bigger paycheck.

Some real stars who could make a big difference to teams fortunes are underpaid. Not sure who plans the teams, but the auction looks like a joke. Why would any team even bid for a mediocre player like Unadkat or Dayal? Not just bidding, but they get into bidding wars :))

For me, RCB and Punjab have the Weakest squad of the current squads. No real-deal players in their squad to change their fortune in this IPL.

'Unhealthy Trend, Using Loopholes': RCB Star's Clear Verdict On Foreign Players' 'Absurd Price' In IPL Mini Auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction threw up some crazy numbers as Australian duo Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins set new salary records. In the mini IPL auction, Starc went to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 while Pat Cummins went to SunRisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore. Those two are the highest-ever salary purse for an individual player in IPL history. Never before in the IPL, has any player crossed Rs 20 crore mark. Royal Challengers Bangalore star Dinesh Karthik, who was retained by the side ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, pointed that foreign players and their agents cleverly use the mini auction to get paid some 'absurd, unheard of prices'.

"I'm not a big fan of players coming straight into MINI auctions and I feel foreign players and their agents seem to use it cleverly because they see a loophole there. I feel BCCI can clamp down on this problem and I've given a couple of solutions in my recent video for @cricbuzz," Karthik posted on X.

In the video he said: "Third trend is an unhealthy one. What I have noticed is the mini-auction is used by players and agents very cleverly, where they bring them in mini auction and they go for absurd and unheard of prices knowing that the teams come in with a lot of money and they have holes to fill. hence, the price skyrockets to a whole different level.

"Now, let's take the example of Jasprit Bumrah. He is at 11 crore. Some of the bowlers who have come in the mini auction have gone for huge prices. Last year it was Cameron Green, Sam Curran. This year it is Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and it is no fault of theirs. They are just prioritising their country, their cricket, looking at their bodies. But also, it is a bit of tactic about how instead of coming to the main auction, they let that pass, and come in the mini auction that happens the next year. And they use the holes and go for some crazy price. Unhealthy trend should stop. Now BCCI can..."

Karthik also offered two solutions to the 'unhealthy trend'. "Anybody coming into the mini-auction after they have released major auction can only go to the sealing of the price that went for in the major auction. So that, there is no bad blood and have been retained in that team. The second one, in case a player hasn't been part of the major auction and comes to the mini auction can only go up to price of the highest paid player of that team. The rest of the money can be given to the BCCI. These are my suggestions," he said.

Gillespie backs Starc's IPL deal but questions Cummins massive price tag

Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie has questioned Pat Cummins' massive IPL price tag, saying T20 cricket is not the quick's best format but backed Mitchell Starc's jaw-dropping ₹24.75 crore deal.

Cummins attracted the second highest paycheck in the auction in Dubai on Tuesday after an intense bidding war between Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who shelled out a whopping ₹20.50 crore for the Australian captain.

"Pat's obviously a quality bowler and a quality leader, we've seen that. I just don't think T20 is his best format," Gillespie told SEN Radio.

"I think he's a Test bowler, personally. I think Test cricket is his absolute bread and butter."

It was not the first time that Cummins, who has 55 wickets in 50 T20I matches at an average of 24.54 and economy of 7.37 in T20Is, attracted huge sums at the IPL auction. Ahead of the 2020 edition, KKR had paid ₹15.5 crore for his services.

"He's a good T20 bowler, make no mistake. But that’s massive overs for me," Gillespie added.

A little over an hour after Cummins landed his deal, Starc surpassed his captain to become the costliest player in the IPL history as Kolkata Knight Riders spent a mind-boggling ₹24.75 crores for the left-armer's services.

Starc, who has usually prioritised international duty over playing in the IPL, has played only two seasons of the cash-rich league, taking 34 wickets in 27 games at an average of 20.38.

"I think he’s a great buy. It’s a lot of money, we all acknowledge that, but the IPL is a very rich tournament… I’m absolutely delighted for Mitch.

"I think it just highlights how important teams value left-arm fast bowling and left-arm swing bowling at pace,” Gillespie said.

Legendary Australian cricket team opener Justin Langer said on a video uploaded by an IPL Franchise team:

"The IPL is like the Olympic Games. It is so big. Every game is a spectacle, it is so well received, it is so well supported, not just at the stadiums, all through India and around the world. To have the opportunity to be a part of that is something I am very, very excited about."

"Having sat with Ricky for so long and he talked about his time with the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. How much he loves the tournament. And Tom Moody, one of my best friends, he's been so involved in the IPL and just to hear them talking about it."

"When I was an Australian coach and we had a series against India, I never used to relax until Virat Kohli and KL Rahul got out. Because he is (Rahul) so dangerous player and he is such a beautiful elegant looking player."

Tata Group Retains IPL Title Sponsorship For Next Five Years:

The Tata Group has retained the title sponsorship rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the next five years, sources confirmed to NDTV. The new deal will see Tata continue as the title sponsor of the marquee T20 event until 2028. Tata cracked the deal after matching the figure presented by Aditya Birla by using its Right to Match (RTM) card. One of India's largest business conglomerates, the Tata Group had earlier replaced Chinese mobile manufacturer Vivo as the IPL title sponsor. It was a two-year deal from 2022 to 2023.

Vivo had a deal of Rs 2200 crore for title sponsorship rights of IPL from 2018-2022 but after the 2020 Galwan Valley military face-off between the Indian and Chinese Army soldiers, the brand took a break for a year with Dream11 replacing it in the IPL.

However, Vivo was back as IPL tittle sponsor in 2021 even as speculation raged that the company was looking to transfer the rights to a suitable bidder and the BCCI approved the move. Tata Group Retains IPL Title Sponsorship For Next Five Years

CUmmins is not a good T20 bowler either. He regularly got thrashed around in IPL. Hazlewood looked better. Guys like Smith/Hazlewood must be fuming when Starc/Cummins go for 45 crores. I understand Head going for 6.8 crores.

Hazelwood is no good T20 bowler either.

When? He just got his bowling right in that one tournament in WT20. Hasn't been any good anywhere else in this format.
Overall he improve in t20 that's why Australia pick him for 2022 world cup before 2022 wt20 he had couple of good match maybe once in the blue moon

1 bad game cannot define Hazalewood as a mediocre bowler. Yes, he has underachieved in t20 format but he is capable enough to do good.

More of a case of couple of good names as far as his T20 career is concerned. He doesn't possess the skills required to make it big in this format.
