IPL 2026 - Discussion thread

CSK’s top-order batting looks solid with Sanju Samson, Ruturaj, Ayush Mhatre, and Brevis.
I don’t know who Karthik Sharma and Prashant Veer are, why such a huge amount was paid for them.
CSK is known for its strong batting depth, which they seem to have lost now. Jadeja is a gun player for CSK, and losing him is a big blow, especially for death-overs batting.
I am not convinced by CSK’s bowling department it looks quite ordinary except one or two.

Some big names not selected in the Auction.

Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell come to my mind immediately.

How the world did Pathirana get 28 crores is beyond me. Dude lifted Srilankan GDP up singlehandedly. He is a good death bowler. But a spray gun too.

18 not 28..........he is good t20 bowler around 6 crore

Not sure if Nahid Rana is in the auction. He should be able to bring similar things as Pathirana, at fraction of the cost.

Here is my Overpriced vs Steal Deal :

Overpriced players:
Matheesha Pathirana
Cameron Green
Mustafizur Rahman
Venkatesh Iyer
Prashant Veer
Kartik Sharma
Josh Inglis

Steal deals:
David Miller
Ashok Sharma
Cooper Connolly
M Short
Quinton de Kock
Jordan Cox

@Nikhil_cric Would you like to add/remove someone

:kp
I'll remove Miller. He is not the force he used to be.

Livingstone is overpriced at 13 cr. Auqib Nabi is a trundler. Not sure he is worth that much either.

Duffy is a value pick in this auction at 2 crore. Number 1 T20I bowler :kp

Would love to see Jamie Smith in the PSL.
He has not done much in Indian conditions. Unless he scores , teams wil be vary .Srh got Brooks for 15/16 crores but he was a total failure with 8 or 9 avg.so franchisees are not sold much on new era bazballers.

TBH, I totally forgot about IPL and the auction, which shows that I couldn't care less. anyway. Cricket is cricket.... Which team has the strongest squad??

He seems like good bowler for T20 bit let's see how he performed in indian conditions.

RR bowling attacks is good ( Archer , burger and Milne) but batting is all about Jaiswal, sooryavanshi and for some extent Parag, no finisher at all.

:kp

KKR management has started behaving like the old dumb RCB. Meanwhile, RCB has become smarter and more calculated.

KKR has made too many blunders. Releasing Shreya Iyer last season and retaining Venkatesh Iyer for 23cr was the biggest mistake, and they also released Salt, who won the title for them, RCB capitalized on that by picking Salt. And this year they paid 25Cr for Green. LMAO.
Stupid management, should have retained Shreyas last year itself instead of Venkatesh Iyer, now they have no option other than Rahane to captain the side.

Parag pan masala🤡🤡

Tuktukill, garbage gill🤡🤡😂😂

RCB bought two U19 players who are currently playing in the Asia Cup: Kanishk Chouhan and Vihaan Malhotra.
They have done well in the auction and just need a few backups.
Jacob Duffy as a backup for Hazlewood,
Jordan Cox as a backup for Bethell/Tim David,
Venkatesh Iyer as a backup for Padikkal or another Indian batsman,
and Mangesh Yadav as a backup for Yash Dayal.

100%

I think he should withdraw from IPL having made a back door deal with PSL

Drop $100k for potentially $400k+
Only a brainless fool will pull out of IPL to play PSL.

It will get them banned in the IPL forever, & also end any possibility of being picked by IPL owned franchises in foreign leagues, of which there are many..

If you play well in IPL, you also better your chances of future retention at higher payscale or the possibility to fetch more money in future auctions...No upside in PSL,apart from the short schedule of the tournament

:kp

Josh Inglis may be available for more IPL games than initially expected!

The Australian wicketkeeper had previously informed the BCCI that he would be available for only 4 games

Now that he has got such a bid, he might even come at the start of the season, leave for the wedding, and come back soon after," said a source( Cricbuzz) .

Inglis was bought by LSG for Rs. 8.6 crore

:kp

This year ipl picked lot of NZ players....last year I remembered NZ playing t20 series vs PAK with literally only santner and ravindra missing....now all of them sold......

Google’s Gemini enters the IPL as one of the sponsor for 270cr in a 3 year deal.

Rajasthan Royals Set To Become IPL's 1st Billion-Dollar Franchise; RCB Could Be Next

In the IPL, silverware still defines legacy, but money is increasingly shaping the conversation. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) now find themselves at the heart of that shift, with the Jaipur-based franchise closing in on becoming the first IPL team to be valued beyond the 1 billion dollar-mark (approximately Rs 9,215 crore). Recent seasons haven't delivered consistent success on the field, yet RR's business value has only climbed. The franchise is drawing strong interest from global investors, with multiple offers already sailing past the billion-dollar line-a clear sign of how rapidly the IPL's financial landscape is expanding.

According to sources familiar with the process, RR is on track to cross the $1 billion valuation threshold, with four bidders submitting offers ranging from roughly $1.1 billion to $1.3 billion. It's a remarkable figure for a team that has rarely featured among the league's flashiest brands, but it reflects the IPL's growing pull beyond on-field results. For context, the most expensive IPL franchise to date is the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which was bought by the RPSG Group for around Rs 7,090 crore.

The Royals are currently owned by Emerging Media Ventures in partnership with RedBird Capital Partners and Tiger Global. Among those bidding is American investor Kal Somani, who already holds a stake in the franchise. He is joined by major players such as Times Internet, Blackstone Inc., and Carlyle Group Inc., all eager to tap into the IPL's booming commercial ecosystem.

On the cricketing side, RR's story has been more volatile. Winners of the inaugural IPL in 2008, they have reached only one final since-in 2022-where they finished as runners-up to the Gujarat Titans. A gradual slide followed, leading to a significant reset after the 2025 season. Still, these on-field struggles have done little to cool investor interest.

The sale is being handled by the Raine Group, a firm with a strong track record in high-profile sports deals. Raine previously oversaw the sales of Chelsea FC in 2022 and Manchester United in 2024, underlining the scale and seriousness of the Royals' process.

And RR may just be the opening act. With the Royals attracting such heavyweight bids, the spotlight is now shifting to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The defending IPL champions boast one of the league's strongest brands and a vast fan base; they, too, are exploring a potential ownership change.

Sources close to RCB indicate that bids could approach-or even exceed-the $2 billion mark. Diageo, the current owner, is understood to be encouraged by the Royals' numbers and has begun testing the market. Given RCB's massive popularity, expectations are that their valuation will comfortably surpass RR's.

Adding to the intrigue, Blackstone and Carlyle are reportedly considering bids for both Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, highlighting how aggressively global investment firms are positioning themselves around the league.

If RR's sale sets a new benchmark, RCB's could push it even higher. Either way, the direction is clear: form may fluctuate, but IPL franchises are only getting more valuable-and the billion-dollar chapter is just beginning.
