The IPL 2025 Mega Auction is scheduled for November 24-25, 2024, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 574 players will be available, including 366 Indian and 208 overseas players, with 204 slots open for bidding, including 70 for overseas players. The highest reserve price is set at INR 2 Crore, with 81 players opting for this bracket. Notable players expected to attract significant bids include Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer

After retention of different players, the team underwent the auction phase to finalize the rest of squad for their teams.

Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul, the three captains released by their franchises, will be among the 12 marquee players in the IPL 2025 auction, which will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. Indian players make up seven of the marquee names, while the second set includes Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.

The five overseas names include Mitchell Starc, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada. Mitchell Starc broke the record for the highest bid at an IPL auction.

Jofra Archer, an England quick, has been absent from the IPL 2022 auction shortlist of 574 players, having recently returned to action after an injury lay-off. Mumbai Indians (MI) purchased Archer for INR 8 crore, despite his elbow surgery and not expected to be fit for the season. James Anderson, England's leading wicket-taker, is also part of the shortlist, aged 42 and expressed interest in the global franchise circuit. He will be the oldest player at the auction, listed at a base price of INR 1.25 crore. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest player at the auction, has already played five first-class matches for Bihar and two Youth Test matches for India Under-19s. Dumindu Sewmina, a Sri Lanka Under-19 fast bowler, has played just one T20 game but has caught the eye with his low, slingy action and recently earned a spot in the Lanka T10 league. He hopes to join fellow Lasith Malinga clones Matheesha Pathirana and Nuwan Thushara into the IPL.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer has not been shortlisted for the Indian Premier League auction for 2025 but James Anderson is included

Batter Joe Root and fast bowler Mark Wood are also not among the 37 England-qualified players in the auction, which will be held on 24 and 25 November.

Former England seam bowler Anderson, 42, has made the cut after the list was trimmed from 1,574 initial entries to 574 following consultation with the 10 IPL teams.

All centrally-contracted England players were free to enter the auction.

Archer's omission is eye-catching given his long battle with injuries and stated desire to return to Test cricket.

It is not clear whether Archer, who was on the longlist, is missing from the shortlist because he pulled out or because he was cut.

If Archer, 29, is to play Test cricket in 2025, he would likely have to play Championship cricket for Sussex in the early part of the English summer, which clashes with the IPL.

Named the IPL's most valuable player in 2020, Archer has made his comeback from a series of back and elbow injuries this year in white-ball cricket, but it is still hoped he could feature against India next summer and in the 2025-26 Ashes in Australia.

Under new rules, any player who has previously played in the IPL but is not in this auction will not be able to play in 2025 or 2026, ruling out Archer, Wood, Root and England Test captain Ben Stokes, whose absence has been previously reported.

England's leading wicket-taker Anderson, who retired from international duty in July, has not played since his final Test against West Indies at Lord's and has not played a T20 since 2014.

Anderson has a reserve price of around £117,000.

No English players were on the retained lists of the 10 IPL teams when they were confirmed last month.

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler is one of 81 players in the auction with the highest reserve price of around £187,000.

The dates for the 2025 IPL have not been confirmed, but this year it ran from 22 March to 26 May.

England-qualified players in IPL 2025 auction:

Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Jonny Bairstow, Phil Salt, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Ben Duckett, James Vince, Moeen Ali, Will Jacks, Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Jordan Cox, Gus Atkinson, Tom Curran, Ollie Pope, Richard Gleeson, Reece Topley, Luke Wood, Leus du Plooy, Michael Pepper, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Olly Stone, Dan Worrall, Matthew Potts, John Turner, Dan Lawrence, James Anderson, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, David Payne, Benny Howell.

James Anderson should not be picked. He retired from T20Is a decade ago, never aimed to play for IPL in his prime and now suddenly after retirement he wants to play IPL cricket. IPL is not a dumping ground for retired cricketers. It is the pinacle of T20 cricket.

Yeah don't know what he was thinking. May be he thinks in India everyone is like Kohli

Released By Mumbai Indians, Arjun Tendulkar Flops A Day Before IPL 2025 Auction

Arjun Tendulkar struggled to make an impact just a day before the IPL 2025 mega-auction, underperforming in both batting and bowling. The bowling all-rounder, who was with the Mumbai Indians from IPL 2021 to 2024, has entered the auction with a base price of ₹30 lakh.

Arjun represented Goa in their opening match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Mumbai, held in Hyderabad. Expectations were high, but he had a disappointing outing. Opening the bowling, he conceded 48 runs in his four-over spell at an economy rate of 12. With the bat, Arjun managed just 9 runs off 4 balls, coming in at number 9. Goa posted 224/8 in their chase of Mumbai’s massive target of 251, falling short by 26 runs.

Despite the underwhelming performance, Arjun remains hopeful of attracting bids in the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

His presence can be good. An experienced bowler. His control over line and length is impeccable. Would not mind any team picking him at base price.

Why is it in Jeddah ?

Aramco wants to be a major shareholder in IPL. Don’t be surprised if a mini IPL season takes place in Saudi every year in the future and why not. Football and other sports have all made fortunes in Saudi, cricket shouldn’t miss out if money is raining.

Visit Saudi is a sponsor of the IPL. Saudis want a piece of cricket and Don't be surprised that in future few IPL matches may be held in Saudi.

Last year auction was in Dubai.

After FIFA World Cup, IPL Auction Takes Centre Stage In Saudi Arabia Amid 'Sportswashing' Allegation

Saudi Arabia hosts this year's Indian Premier League player auction in a partnership between a money-spinning cricket tournament expanding its global reach and a kingdom using sports to improve its image. De facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has backed extravagant sports investments -- set to culminate in Saudi Arabia hosting the football World Cup in 2034 -- to diversify its oil-rich economy. Critics point to Saudi Arabia's human rights record and the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018, accusing the kingdom of "sportswashing.

The two-day auction beginning Sunday in Jeddah is the first cricketing event of this stature to be hosted in Saudi Arabia, a country with an under-served fanbase for the sport among millions of South Asian migrant workers.

Saudi cricket federation chairman Prince Saud bin Mishal said that staging the auction reflected the kingdom's "commitment to developing the sport and showcasing its position as a global destination for sporting events".

Saudi Arabia's big spending on sporting events had helped "to promote the narrative of a changing kingdom", Rice University's Kristian Coates Ulrichsen told AFP.

"To the extent that there is now a buzz associated with Saudi Arabia in football and in boxing, the spending has succeeded in changing the subject," he added.

Saudi Arabia has in recent years recruited top footballers including Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar into its league while hosting world championship boxing, Formula One racing, tennis and golf.

Visit Saudi, the state tourism arm, and state-owned energy giant Saudi Aramco have both been IPL sponsors.

Cricket already has a fanbase in the kingdom among expatriate workers.

Non-Saudi nationals account for more than 13 million of Saudi Arabia's 32.2 million people, over 40 percent of whom hail from cricket-mad India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, according to the 2022 census.

The kingdom's cricket federation is also trying to boost the sport's popularity among Saudis and has launched a programme to introduce it in schools.

"There is a general perception that it's a street game," Kabir Khan, the federation's head coach, told English-language daily Arab News in August.

"We need to change that perception."

Expanding horizons

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not required to regularly publish its finances and details of the agreement for Jeddah to host the auction have not been released.

But the IPL has generated billions in revenue since its inception in 2008, turning the BCCI into one of the richest governing bodies in sport.

Two years ago it sold the broadcast rights for five IPL seasons to global media giants for $6.2 billion.

Its player auctions are watched by millions eager to see which of the sport's top stars will make their teams and the BCCI has sought to broaden the tournament's profile by staging the spectacle abroad.

Last year's auction was held in Dubai, a regular host for international cricket tournaments and which also has a large base of prospective fans among its migrant worker population.

Veteran Indian cricket journalist Ayaz Memon told AFP that holding this year's auction in Saudi Arabia benefitted both the kingdom and the board.

"Saudi authorities have been very keen on promoting sports in their own country... and you get to expand the horizons of the IPL in the sense of creating more awareness for the sport."

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to play in IPL Saudia after retirement drawing 10 million USD per season.

He was only the top wicket taker in the 2024 t20wc. Poor indeed.

Arshdeep is a brilliant bowler...career economy of 8.30 is not bad considering avg IPL score last year were 225

Shreyas Iyer is abysmal and he is getting insane amount from poor ipl.

IPL has ruined cricket by over paying these khotas.

Indian players normally sold for higher value as they will play all games

Most retarded bidding for Sheryas Iyer

Punjab Kings and Delhi are a joke.

Punjab is conned by Ricky Ponting fake useless guru what a total joke

Shreyas Iyer is the luckiest guy alive. He is the most expensive player in IPL now.

Ponting gonna stink up Punjab Kings just the same as he did with Delhi Capitals

Jos butler should fetch 20 crores. He is way better than all these iyers and other jokers.

You are not getting it. Jos Butler is overseas player, so chances are he will leave in the fag end of the tournament for international duty. So dont expect overseas players to get sold in very high price.

Arshdeep Singh has a T20 avg of 18.11.

If this was a Pakistani you would be jumping up and down.

Lol 11. 75 crores for starc who is done at this level. But he is probably good enough for this poor IPL.

Lol rishabh pant is another poor limited overs cricketer.

In t20is he has average of 23 with strike rate of 127. He has played more than 70 t20is.

LoL hahahah 27 crore for a player who has average of 23 with strike rate of 127

5-10 crores is reasonable for these players not like 27 crores to someone like Rishabh pant and Iyer is absurd.
