This is about Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline for which Iran has invested money in building a pipeline till Pakistan border but Pakistan has not completed it's side of the agreement since many years.

"Iran has laid pipeline upto Pakistan's border, but the neighbouring country has neglected to take due measure on its soil", Zangeneh said at a press briefing.

So, Zangeneh added, the Petroleum Ministry is to take the issue to the court.

They should! Iran completed the pipe line under PPP government commitment. Noony toons have backed out now as they can not face pressure from the Saudis. What a coward and self-centered government.

Sad that relations with Iran have deteriorated in order to kowtow to Riyadh. Pak Govt shouldn't be beholden to any side in the Iran-Saudi conflict, especially since Iran are direct neighbours. There is potential for greater economic cooperation, especially since international sanctions have been partially lifted on Iran since the nuclear deal.

I expect Pakistan to hold up their end of the agreement if and when PMLN is out power. The Sharifs have too much at stake in Saudi Arabia and would not jeopardize their cash flow....even if it means the Pakistani people suffer billions of $ in fine.

I disagree, such a big step and policy cannot be decided by Pakistan's Government alone, the military establishment has a much bigger say in things like these as this issue also comes under foreign policy Mamoon LegendInzi

And since when has the Pakistan military been opposed to Iran? Are you suggesting the agreement was signed by Pakistan without military approval before?

The only reason this project was not completed is immense pressure from Saudi Arabia and USA, the pressure made the military establishment + Government change their decision, there is no way such a big policy goes through without the involvement of military establishment. Stop accusing Pakistani military and then this Indian has got the audacity to call out and reference so called Pakistani liberals for support. Mind your own business!

No need of so much anger over a simple post, on the topic of Pakistani Military and their control on Government you should read these two excellent articles from renowned Pakistani journalist Cyril Almeida:

Cyril Almeida's only relevance is that he hates the 'establishment'. Doesn't make him a journalist worth his salt. Most Pakistanis love their military because of what they have done to fight terrorism and protect our homeland. Military governments also had better governance/economies than the crap we have right now.

I don't think an Indian should be telling a Pakistani on how Pakistani military influences the country. We already know that. The pressure from Saudi and US was there when this deal was signed, look it up. The Pak military is on board and will not ruin it's relations with a neighbor for Saudi. Pak military also refused any support in the Yemen war so your theory of Pak military bowing to Saudi pressure is fabrication and lets not talk about the pressure from the US...12 years of US pressure on the Afghan Taliban and you know the results. The only reason this pipeline hasn't been built is because of Saudi pressure on Nawaz Sharif. The Sharifs have more business in Saudi than they do in Pakistan and I expect Pakistan to hold up it's side of the deal once the Sharifs are gone. Pakistan military was fully on board when this deal was signed, otherwise it wouldn't have been signed.

Either ways, this is a bad show on our part. We need to make more friends, not lose existing friends.

Well can’t blame them for taking this to the court. According to Dawn it wasn’t completed because “Work on Pak-Iran gas pipeline halted due to sanctions, NA told”.
https://www.dawn.com/news/1368270

Why even enter into an agreement if sanctions are the reason? How come PPP didn’t realize that this will create problems for Pakistan?

Fully justified. In fact, they should have done it earlier.

The day PML-N came to power, I knew this pipeline would not be completed.Nawaz and his band of thugs cannot defy the Saudis.Bunch of clowns!

The IP pipeline, if completed, would have provided gas to Pakistan at the cheapest price and would have solved the gas crisis plaguing the country.

Now, the government is importing gas from Qatar which is significantly more expensive and consumers have to bear the extra cost.Absolutely pathetic!

Funny that they're preferring Qatar - a state that has been actively boycotted by Saudi and co. - but are frightened of doing something similar to Iran.

Saudi also gave a $1.5bn grant to back out of the deal

Quoting two people who you know will back anything you say, the fact Indians support them on PP shows the level of credibility they have. Absolutely embarrassing post. :91:

Iran project of making Gwadar a Refuelling Hub:

It was not only the gas pipeline, but the Project also included of making an Oil Refinery in Gwadar by Iran with the investment of 4 Billion USD.

And aim was to turn Gwadar as Refuelling hub for the ships.

At moment, Ships have to take 2 days long journey to UAE for refuelling. And UAE didn't want to loose it's position as refuelling hub at hands of Gwadar. Therefore UAE also started insurgency in Baluchistan.

Do you remember when ISI director General Shujaa Pasha told in the briefing to Parliament that UAE is involved in insurgency in Baluchistan.

UAE involved in Baloch insurgency

Expect China to step in, provide loans to the Govt. to complete the line but extend it to Gilgit Balistan. China gets energy transition rights for a pittance, Iran gets revenue from resources sold, Pakistan will have another loan on the exchequer.

Expect headline's soon' 'PMLN signs multi million agreement for additional Chinese investment into Iran Pipeline deal. Hundreds of jobs to be created!'
