Is Asif Ali a luxury Pakistan can no longer afford?

His role in the team is quite specific, but he has rarely delivered so far. Additionally, he offers nothing in any other facet. He isn't really a quick runner, nor is he athletic, nor does he have a very strong arm - thus he's a liability in the field. Neither does he bowl. How much longer can he stay in the team?

Absolutely horrible - Malik or hafeez better choices.

Also surprised Harris is struggling in the 2 games getting our exact same way

The stats don't make good reading at all.

What's his role? Is he a pinch-hitter? Is he just a slogger? Is he a sacrificial lamb?

You cannot have a batsman in the team with these awful stats.

He is just plain bad, out of 24 inns only 3 times he has scored more than 30 runs which means he is clicking in 1/8 games and even when he clicks he doesn't score 50, This is Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz level batting, truly pathetic.

Afridi had these stats but he could make with with a poor batting performance with the ball and vice versa. Asif Ali cannot play in the team on the basis of slogging alone.

Afridi when clicks can turn around a match singlehandedly and sure clicking means scoring a 50 atleast not a cute 30+ scores also I am pretty sure afridi clicking rate was definitely better than 1/8 times and this is all without talking about his bowling, there is a world of a difference, between asif and afridi.

Sixteen scores out of 24 innings where he has made seventeen runs or less.

While he played 2-3 good knocks for Northern in national T20 cup 2019 but, looks like he doesnt handle the pressure of international T20s well. He hasnt played any match turning knock in T20s which he is expected to do. Further an avg in 20s across the formats in domestics doesnt instill much confidence either.

Problem is Pak team management is desperate to find dynamic batsman and Asif Ali puts his hand up in almost every T20 tournament from PSL to national T20 cup as he was the 3rd highest scorer in national T20 cup with SR of 199 and 6th highest scorer (Among his Pakistani counterparts) in PSL 2019 at SR of 182. However, somehow he hasnt been able to transfer even half of what he has done in T20 competitions in recent times to international cricket.

Iftikhar is gonna stay and Asif Alo is gonner

The way Asif has been playing it is gonna happen. I always believed Iftikhar to be the most reliable finisher we have and I mentioned that in numerous posts post PSL 2019. Iftikhar has a FC avg of 40 and 11 100s, he is a proper batsman who has the 5th gear as well.

Asif Ali is presumably 28 and has a First Class Average of 22. Has anyone asked why?

His bowling is bi plus in UAE. An improved crickter.

Afridi’s strike rate was way higher though. Asif’s strike rate is lower than Babar’s

I've said it for a while that he's a terrible player. His domestic track record even suggests he's a terrible player. He just has a high SR because he can hit a few sixes here and there but doesn't have an ability to build, maintain or accelerate the innings.

He plays even more brainless shots than Umar Akmal, which is saying something.

This is why domestic stats and track record matter.

I think he has to play. Maybe try him at 3

We just can't go into a T20 world cup with
imam
Babar
haris
Rizwan
Malik
iftikhar

You need your hitters and players who can play like fakhar Asif sharjeel types

Very emotional since the burial of his daughter
Newer batsmen should be given the chance

He could probably give Zimbabwe a good bashing. If you are talking about facing genuine quality attacks, I told previously when he was picked for the world cup that he would be a disaster. He's nothing more than a hit and hope slogger with no idea how and when to play those shots.

"A Player has a special role" is a fancy way of saying that a player has no business of being in the team.
He has no Role at all. Even his first class stats are poor. An average below 28 across the board.

Only reason he is in the team, is Pakistani fan base 's obsession with power hitters. Not only fans but even former cricketers like Rameez keep repeating "we need power hitters, we need power hitters"
But they forget to mention to be a power hitter, one has to be solid batsman first. If you are sub standard batsman than your six hitting ability is of no use. I mean even Umar Gul can Hit big sixes, but will you play Umar Gul As a batsman? send him to open the innings?

Asif Ali is a Club level player where an average of 27 is ok, it does not matter even if he can hit the ball hard. He is still a sub standard club level player.

Drop Fakhar and give Asif a chance to open before discarding him. He comes at a time he has to go bang bang from the start.

He is a power hitter, supposedly selected to give Pakistan those runs at the back end, which to my knowledge are being expected with the fact that he has a few decent performances and domestic and T20 leagues, but is still being persisted because management believes there's no one in our country right now who can do better than he is doing and he is being promoted lately so that he may be able to deliver that once in a blue moon performance and then Misbah and the company will select him for the next WT20 WC and there will then be threads open on PakPassion on why Asif Ali is as dangerous as Jos Buttler or how he can play the Andre Russell role in our team, even after knowing that he knows only one shot to play and the maximum he can offer is a couple of sixes, which of course in our county no one is able to do because the El Strike Rate of Asif Ali is better than the performances of Iftikhar or Khushdil or any other solid middle order batsman in our domestic Cricket.

Luxury, as in, not a necessity, just there for some reason not yet discovered.

Still, it’s a bit overwhelming word .... for that matter, the reason is/was probably discovered/known - to play Josh Buttler role for PCT. I think, purpose was/is still there - can’t say that about execution or abilities though.

He's no luxury. A complete hack not far from Wahab Riaz's batting.

What luxury? An absolute joke of a cricketer. Should be immediately thrown out.

In a more competitive domestic setup, Asif would've failed miserably and probably be playing 2nd XI or club cricket right now. He has one shot - the full "in the slot" ball from a medium pacer will be smashed either straight or over deep midwicket. That is the beginning and the end of his game. If this is the best power-hitter Pakistan can produce, well...
