Is cricket as a game in shambles?

Apart from Eng, Pak, Ind or may be Bng (Improving at least) every board and team seems to be going down currently.

Look at Australian board, really struggling with the contracts and the financial model, Cricket South Africa struggling big time with quotas and team culture. Even AB has said this as one of the reasons for him to leave test cricket and he looks sad. Not easy when players of the caliber of Roussow and Abbot leave the team.

West indies cricket and Lankan cricket is also struggling big time. Malinga just got banned and the board hasnt been able to handle any thing same is the case with Westindies cricket, none of the players playing in T20 leagues want to play for Westindies.

I dont know if its because of the money some of these players are getting from IPL or the non professional behavior of boards is causing it. But international cricket is losing some quality talent.

Cricket boards have historically been unprofessional but now as the players have other sources of income they stand up to their respective boards unlike previous times and international cricket has taken some big blows over the last couple of years.

I am a huge cricket fan but the situation doesnt look too pleasant.

Wally Edwards retired as the Chairman and was replaced by David Peever. David Peever comes from the mining company Rio Tinto and has a history there of busting unions.

And he's just trying to bust the ACA (the Australian cricket union).

Yes its a good point but whatever the issues are and we combine them with the issues going in other boards for sometime now, its doesnt look a very bright situation for the game. Cant remember last time when Ashes was in danger due to players taking a stand against their boards.

Leagues around the world mainly IPL has given the confidence to the players that we can work independent of our boards as there is a big revenue stream available for them.

The Ashes is not in danger.

The players know very well that if the prospect of not being able to field a team in the Ashes is legitimate than the CA Chairman will either give in to the demands or there will be a new CA Chairman.

Not as many Australian players who are striking are even good enough to earn those big contracts in the IPL.

Just a fluke. Cricket will not die in Pakistan because of the overpopulation crisis we have but unfortunately, Pakistan may be reduced to the levels of minnows in the future. Maybe 20 years from now. Way too much corruption.

Heyns attributed the rising interest of cricket in South Africa due to the following factors

1) South Africa is rated as the number one side
2) Match Fixing in South African cricket and other scandals such as famous cricketers having extramarital affairs
3) Political Interference
4) cricket is no longer only played by the white minority

Heyns pointed out South Africans are always talking about cricket. Whether South Africans are talking about their players inability to perform on the big stage or whether they are boasting of the number one status there is talking point. The interest in the game is increasing as shown in the massive rate in increase of the sales of cricket bats

But, I have often seen a lot of South African people ( Especially Blacks) claiming that the Live Coverage of SA matches is too expensive and over 90 % of the country can't afford it , so only a very tiny percentage of population in SA are able to watch their Stars.

Sri Lanka and West Indies boards are usual suspects though when it comes to inept cricketing administration and corruption.

West Indies have appointed a new CEO in Johnny Grave who used to work in County cricket, and a Director of Cricket in Jimmy Adams so attempts are being made to professionalise the structure. Stuart Law is the new coach.

But the fish rots from the head and it remains to be seen whether Dave Cameron will allow to them to work without constant interference.

West Indies weren't winning series left and right even with those T20 rebels in the team. There are some promising young names who need to be given time.
