Is Haider Ali the best young batter in the world for T20 format?

Has a half century with 200 SR on debut

Excelled in PSL, National T20 Cup and now yesterday finished the match for his sife

Has wide range of shots and can play at different positions & he is just 20!

He is not 20. Most likely he is 22 or 23.

His debut match was against Zimbabwe, and if you take out the Zimbabwe matches his international career is not impressive so far.

However i would say he is the best young batsman from Pakistan in T-20 right now.

This shows how little homework you’ve done.

He's certainly one of the most exciting young players in the world at the moment along with Tom Banton, Shubman Gill. Hopefully he can expand his game and be more successful in the longer formats as well..

Has a lot of talent for sure, but he hasn't played a substantial innings in T20Is in a while. Definitely has potential, just need to see a bit of consistency.

We all believe that he has some talent, and has shown glimpses of great potential in the limited opportunities presented to him.

However, the issue remains that his mindset is not right on most occasions, he doesn't play the game according to the situation.

I think he should start batting down at 5 and 6, where he can come in, play his aggressive game, and gain experience.

Batting a number under Malik would do him good as he would understand how to construct an innings, and batting lower down the order is where he can use his aggression to get quick runs.

Should gradually work his way to higher positions.

The way Haider played yesterday shows there is potentially a solution to Pakistan’s batting positions at number 5 , where everyone else namely talat, khushdil and iftikhar have struggled in t20s.

It might not always come off but it could present Pakistan with a good power hitting option to chase or set a good score .

Fakhar
Rizwan
Babar
Hafeez
Haider

You are putting it forward as a fact. Fair enough, kindly share source or proof as you must have that to be so confident.

Almost every player in Pakistan has lied about their age. Thats why im so confident that he is not 20. Check out the pics of the under 16 team.

Hes one of the most exciting young players in the world right now along with shubnam GIll,bantom.

Shubnam Gill , Rishab Pant , prithvi shaw , pucovski , zak crawley , tom banton , sam curran. depends on how you define young but all these players are pretty much in same age catergory as Haider , i would struggle to put him ahead of any of these players at the moment he has potential don't get me wrong but best young batsmen in the world? like i said maybe in Pakistan.

Pucovski will have a mental struggle against short balls for the rest of his life I believe. Otherwise you have taken the names of people 2-3 years older than Haider, all definitely better but there’s no telling how they all develop. Except Banton, he’s very lazy about improving his game. And since when is Sam Curran a batsman?

Haider is the best U21 batsman in the world right now.

Shubnam Gill is miles ahead of haider in all formats and they fall into the same age category cycle, if Haiders official age is to be believed.

Im not saying Haider is not a good batsmen but pakistan havent got much in the cupboard so have to throw him out there where as other countries develop their players properly, that's why he will probably disappear into the oblivion in the next few years as we have seen with many of our talented youngsters in the past.

i would love for him to prove me wrong in the next few series but i don't want to jump on the hype train just yet.

And Sam Curran will develop into a batsmen who bowls a bit, he is a very clean hitter of the ball.

Shubman Gill is the successor to Gavaskar-Tendulkar-Kohli. Haider if he achieves his full potential can at best dream of being a Sehwag or Rohit, and I doubt he will achieve his full potential.

However, aside from Shubman, Haider is roughly in the same league as Pant and Shaw imo who are fantastic. Pucovski and Crawley might be good test players but will never be all format greats. Banton will be a limited overs bully, maybe in the class of Finch at best.

Sam Curran will definitely be a very decent utility player across all three formats but I don’t see him ever being classified in the same category as the likes of Pant etc. If he has an excellent career, he will be considered a Woakes lite.

Obviously I am happy to be proven wrong but that’s my initial perception of all these players.

I agree with all of the above tbh, i think years of being a Pakistani fan has made me more of a pessimist when it comes to our players. I hope Haider can excel and go onto have a bright future in the game. Potential is definitely there, will be all about the mental application.

He needs a rigorous regime of first class cricket. Can’t have him missing another season, already been two years since he played a first class match.

Played well today but I knew that as soon as he got his 50, he would lose concentration and that's what happened

No comparison with the other young players from around the world but he along with Rohail and Shaheen are the best millenial talents from Pakistan. Should be expected to be playing a lot of internationals for Pakistan.

when he plays proper cricket shots he looks good, when he slogs he has power but loses his shape. to break out to the next level he needs to maintain his balance when power hitting, maybe needs some golf lessons #hafeez

also needs to stop running down the pitch to spinners, quality spinners will make him pay the price

He's still incredibly raw and it's great to see him learning and improving as he goes on.

In a normal situation he'd still be 2-3 seasons away from international cricket. But as Pakistan are desperate for players of his profile he'll have to learn on the job, and in the process deal with criticism from those who expect him to play every innings like an international superstar despite minimal overall experience.

This is where Haider needs clear man management from the leaders over at the PCB. It's going to be incredibly important to keep his mindset firmly away from leagues that coincide with the domestic season and also to keep focus on improving his 4 day game when t20 is so lucrative.

There's enough pointless leagues out there who will pick Haider year in, year out at this point. The temptation for any cricketer to make big $ by being a t20 specialist must be strong.

I don't think anyone doubts that the guy has quality and potential. He's not seeing his own potential as far as I'm concerned because it seems like he wants the glory for playing a 10 ball 20 rather than wanting a 20 ball 50 or even a higher score.

The point is, today was a rare innings from Haider Ali were I saw him really give himself some time to structure the chase. Yes, he started off aggressively with a few boundaries, but he kept rotating strike, and did not play many dot balls either. That's the biggest plus sign, he took singles and got off strike, and then targeted one or two bowlers to get some runs from.

Hopefully he understands that he needs to give himself time, and he should use the example of Hafeez. You don't need shere power to excel in T20 cricket, you need timing and placement. However, you also need to take advantage of field placements. No offense to Babar, but his shot selection is a bit limited, sometimes you have to advance to the seamers and create scoring opportunities as well, which I don't see him doing. Yes, you have your strong zones, but you won't get the ball there all the time, so he should also see if he can improve his power hitting like Hafeez has done.

If someone like Haider can mature into his role by the end of this PSL, it will be a huge plus for Pakistan, as we'll have an in form team ahead of the WC.

Form and confidence are two of the biggest factors for winning any tournament, you could be one of the weakest teams on paper but rise above the best if you play according to your strengths and if you're in form.

PCB has to improve the salaries of the Central Contract and domestic circuit by quite a bit to prevent players from going overseas and playing in T20 Leagues.

Our Central Contract salaries are mere fractions of what CA, BCCI, and England pay their cricketers, so that must improve first and foremost, to make sure that those players who are identified for serving the country have their financial needs met so that they dedicate most of their time to playing in domestic.

Too much relying on luck then technique , He won't go far unless he completely alters his shot selection.

No doubt he has the talent , but so does Imran Nazir and Umar Akmal had.

No, He still need to value his wicket, Yesterday also he was slogging in between, When he can play proper control shoots then why slog, Also he needs to learn to finish matches.

High class batting. He is finding his hitting form and he's taking absolutely no prisoners

Never seen a batsmen go downhill as fast as this guy. Looks like he’s never held a bat in his life.

Now he’s finished and most likely on the brink of retirement. He was talented but never put in hard yards and would be shocked if he gets a PSL contract.

Another talented upcoming batsmen who’s just lost his way and never recovered. Looks shot.

He had talent but unfortunately like many other Pakistani cricketers lost his way.

He started off quite well. I was expecting him to become a mainstream batter for Pakistan. But, simply faded away.

Haider Ali is a league product. That's why he couldn't survive in international cricket for long.

Who wants to buy him in the PSL draft?

Another chance in the PSL.

He's a lucky chap.

These chances will run out if he doesn't start performing and improve his attitude.

Like I said in his English county stint for Derbyshire instead off learning his craft and improving his game he was more interested eating out in fancy restaurants and smoking Shisha.

With this attitude he will never make it and don’t think ever recover from the disastrous outings he’s had soo far. Should retire

Hmm if this is true then sympathy for Haider diminishes quite a lot.

But it’s not just him. You can see at the Sindh PL how unfit the average Pakistani cricketer is.

We might be the worst in the world when it comes to discipline and fitness.

@Savak is right. Pakistanis only respond well to hard taskmasters.

Yes a few people mentioned this to me.

Seems like it's all gone to his head, the lad thinks he's a superstar when he's actually done nothing.

I was surprised to see how chubby he has become. I think he himself has realized that he doesn't have many days left in cricket so he's enjoying it and will vanish forever from the scene.

Umar Akmal at one point in time was regarded as the next big thing and the best batsman in Pakistan Cricket, he was a confirmed starter in the PSL and a guaranteed platinum pick, now UA is struggling to even make his domestic side and he even burnt his bridges in the PSL.

I feel for him a little, there's clearly some talent but just hasn't shown it consistently. Maybe it's mental and getting in his head. Hope he has a bounceback psl

Haider Ali has been the biggest disappointment despite having the potential he had, he failed on the big stage and looks all washed up. He should be playing first-class cricket so that he can improve his game. These t20 leagues will do no good to him.

Haider Ali is the one who kept getting multiple chances despite delivering such pathetic performances. But now if he gets out of the system so he will completely vanish.
