What's new

Is Imad Wasim really a good batsman or bowler?

I don't blame him for getting hot, nothing much a spinner can do at the death.

Till he bowled the last over and got spanked by Pandya, he had reasonable figures of 8.1 overs for 43 runs (@5.26 per over).

No excuses for his batting though, out first ball to Pandya.

Which player is the second most owned by another player? The first seems to be Imad, being hit for 19 at S/R 380, and followed up with out first ball.

No excuses for his batting. Shouldn't have hit it to the fielder;
But shouldn't be dropped for this performance. He was asked to bowl and bat in the worst possible situations.

As a bowler Imad got hit for 19 runs in 5 balls by Pandya.
As a batsman Imad was out first ball to Pandya.

I have a question. In the history of ODI cricket, has there ever been a greater case of one player completely owning another player?

Waqar Younis was once thrashed for 23 runs by Jadeja,i saw it live in 1996 WC quarterfinal. That doesn't mean that Waqar was a bad bowler.

Tendukar was once bowled for naught by Shoib. These two examples may seem atrocious but just mentioned to clarify that bad days come in every cricketer's life.

I can't understand your question here.Has Imad been owned by any cricketer,if yes by whom? What was the context of this question?

Wasim may have got thrashed by Jadeja, but did Jadeja also turn around and get Wasim out cheaply? The answer is no.

I asked if there was another example of an all-rounder getting thrashed as a bowler and then getting out to the same player?

By Pandya, who hit Imad for 19 runs @S/R 380 and then got him out first ball.

I think he is Pakistani version of Sir Raveendra Jadeja

You can't be serious. As a Pakistan fan whose been following Pakistan cricket for 4 decades I will painfully admit jadeja is champagne to imad wasim's lemonade. Jadeja can bat, bowl and field like a champion but above all is the all rounder that keeps the pulse of the 11 ticking. You could see in the last match how just through his electric fielding he lifted the whole team.

Well to be honest, when jadeja first came into international cricket he was very bad, he was a freaking internet meme, the Indian fans absolutely despised him but dhoni kept on backing him and a made a player out of him.

Imad should be handled with a lots of care..

He has a great attitude and if handled properly, he is going to go far ahead..

he averages over 40 in batting and 30 in bowling in fc... I see him as a great replacement for number 6..

He offers guanine option as an extra spin bowler.. taking some of the workload off of yasir... it will also offer pak variety to their bowling..

he simply doesnt deserve to be in the team.....
those sliders and flippers are only effective when u can also turn the ball.... which he simply cannot and hasn't till now.... his stock delivery is the one that remains straight..... could have been effective even with these deliveries but then he simply hasn't that pace....
as a batsman he is not good enough to play modern game....

he cannot survive in test cricket.... a one dimensional bowler .... those guys having 50+ avg in domestics fail in test cricket he simply isn't good enough... just a player who can bowl four economical overs in T20....

The basic thing he needs to do is to turn the ball away from right hander.... he hasnt been able to do so so far in his career..... and he is no way the modern day batsman

I was very indifferent about Imad when he first arrived at international scene but was quickly becoming a fan. These past few performances are making me wonder if his own hype has got into his head. Is he really a good batsman or a good bowler? I'm not sure on him. What does he lack, or possess for that matter?
What's the jury on him, is he a "hack"(new to pp, am I doing it right?).

To answer your post it's irrelevant to compare him to other left arm allrounders as an all rounder lifts a team when others around are failing. It's an important role you need to be able to read opposition and crucial moments in the game.

There was a lot of fuss made about him when he first came on the scene but he's showing real lack of progress. Firstly he has an in swinging left arm dart on a good length. It was effective for a while. But once you get used to it he's quite easy to play. I haven't seen a very useful arm ball nor much variation in pace. I.e most spinners anticipate footwork of batter and drop the ball short but he doesn't do anything of the sort.

As for his batting in the England series he made 50's in a losing cause or in dead rubbers. But I can't say much because usually by the time I sit down with my cup of tea his innings is over. But I suspect he's trying to be a 6 hitter which seems to be a disease amongst our lot. They first need to learn to nudge and nurdle and rotate strike to get a measure of the pitch. Then they need to be aware that there is a difference between boundary hitting and wild slogging. But he has been entrusted with a role and I hope he improves. He's not the first person I would remove from the team.

So just shows what the right backing for the right talent does. Shane warne had him in Rajasthan royals so dhoni and him were both right. Ten years later he's one of the top players in the world. No1 bowler I think right now.

Neither. Bits and pieces. But if you ask what he is better at in his limited abilities its his batting over bowling.

Imad has no zero revolutions imparted. Just throws the ball.

Another mediocre player there are so many mediocre players present in the team it's difficult to point a single player. He is absolute garbage.

No he is not. He is mediocre at beck, with his acrtion and style he cannot evolve as a bowler. And he is average as a batsman, cannot power hit. And this forum hyped him up as the next jadeja.

Comparing Jadeja to Imad lol

In 2009 even when Jadeja was the most hated cricketer in India and was considered to be a mediocre bits and pieces cricketer, even then he was still leagues ahead of Imad Wasim. Jadeja could be played as a fielder alone then and would have still made a difference.

No this is not a india-pak rivalry thing which is making me post in this condescending tone.

From a pure cricketing perspective,it is so obvious to see. Fielding is mediocre, a nothing bowler and haven't seen him bat a lot but from a couple of times I have seen him looks a below average bat as well.

He is a wannabe Afridi and lol at wearing shades in rainy weather. No marks on the style quotient either.

Hope for Pakistan fans sake he proves me wrong and evolves into another Jadeja but right now don't see any it factor in him. A very ordinary Sunday league types cricketer.

Sorry for the harsh tone but it is what It is.

Imad Looks a much better cricketer then hafeez has been in his entire career!

Mickey's confidence in Imad paying off.

Majority of Us proven wrong today.

When he gets drift he delivers.

People here change opinions every freaking day loool.

Most knowledgeable people know a team facing him for the first few times is going to have trouble.

Once worked out he's the dream bowler to thrash and score against.

Depends who he's playing against as well. I did say yesterday that he might do well against SA. The problem was expecting him to have the same success against India who are experts at playing slow bowlers.

Imad has an economy of 4.79 in this batting friendly era after playing almost half of his games on the flattest of tracks of Australia and England.

After 22 matches, Jadeja had taken 17 wickets at an economy of 4.9. In the same number of matches, Imad has taken 24 wickets at 4.79 economy.

So, the guy who took less wickets with higher economy rate was miles ahead? There really is no limit to delusion.
