Is Imran Khan the most popular leader & PTI still the most popular party in Pakistan?

Whilst I dont agree with all of this but the opinion piece does make some good points.

EACH time a product is launched by a company, the latter’s communication strategy is critical to ensuring the product’s success. It is this strategy that helps the product become a brand. Politics is no different. The Imran Khan brand has triumphed, and this success has allowed the PTI, that initially had a single seat in parliament, to morph into a national party.

It is a well-known fact that Khan and the PTI have made the best possible use of social media and the various tools it offers to undertake their brand-building exercise and propaganda. They have smartly tapped into the educated urban middle class, while a supportive national media helped prop up the party until it came to power. Now a segment of the media — the usual suspects — is still supporting it and is also accused of twisting the news and facts to suit the PTI’s narrative.

Behind this populism is the inorganic as well as the organic proliferation of digital content in support of Imran Khan, which has helped build positive perceptions about him. Although all leading political parties — the PML-N, PTI and the PPP — are known to have robust social media communication teams, it is the PTI that has outshone the other two in ways that are good and bad. The PTI has successfully projected its leader’s narrative but, in doing so, has also been accused of stooping low and setting a precedent for unsavoury exchanges and online attacks through the army of trolls at its disposal.

The tide is against the PML-N and its allies on the digital front. Rarely will anyone see a post, a reel, or a video snippet that praises the PML-N leadership or highlights any of its governance endeavours. Conversely, what we see are terabytes of digital content that mock the new ruling party’s leadership as well as the allies. Their statements are taken out of context while Khan is painted as a political messiah on a number of social media platforms; the rest of the parties are shown as his arch-nemesis.

It is a distorted ratio. The reasons are clear: a large section of the youth relates to the narrative being promoted and partakes organically in generating content and conversations on social media platforms that it is familiar with; this is in addition to the organised efforts of the PTI’s social media team and troll farms.

Rarely will anyone see a post, a reel or a video snippet that praises the PML-N leadership or highlights any of its governance endeavours.

The new coalition government faces a number of difficult tasks. Among them is the perception challenge as the allies navigate their way to survival and eventual delivery. In fact, it is a challenge that all future governments will need to tackle.

Despite the efforts of its social media team, the PML-N’s communication strategy has yet to realise its goals or even effectively tap into the urban class. The party’s voters are said to mainly comprise the semi-urban and rural conservative strata and the 40-plus age bracket. The party has largely chosen to reach the public through conventional means of political interaction.

What has been missing so far is a cohesive focus on rebuilding its brand and repositioning itself as a political force. The others have already shown what they stand for: the PTI has depicted itself as a crusader against corruption, and the PPP as the guardian of constitutional democracy.

The ‘N’ (Nawaz) in PML-N represents the brand that brings in the votes. The junior Sharif, meanwhile, has been perceived as the administrator who delivers. In fact, it was the administrative prowess of the younger Sharif that proved to be the cornerstone of the PML-N’s populist support in Punjab. With the election of the new chief minister of Punjab, the second generation of Sharif politicians is now emerging. As was the case previously, two Sharifs once again occupy the seat of power in the capital and Pakistan’s largest province. The elder of the two has adequate political capital and a positive reputation to build upon in the top office. However, the second-generation Hamza Sharif, although known for ensuring a politically sound administrative structure for the party in the province, has yet to prove himself in the court of public opinion.

How the party will navigate this complexity remains to be seen, both in terms of performance and perceptions.

In the age of social media, disinformation and fake news have become the norm. Navigating the web of narratives is an art which the current government has not yet mastered, as every time the PTI issues a political statement or forcefully builds upon its narrative of ‘corruption’ or ‘foreign conspiracy’, the new rulers seem unable to counter it with equal vigour, or wisdom, playing right into the hands of their rivals who are then in a position to control the discussion, and indeed, do so.

The PML-N’s challenge is not an easy one as the narrative that is being spun is itself dangerous, and it is necessary to ensure that political players avoid using the religion card — they exploited it in the case of the unfortunate Madina incident — especially at a time when there is increasing polarisation in society and emotions are running high.

The PTI has played its cards well by rousing its supporters and then cashing in on their anger and sympathy after the ouster of their leader from the top office. On the back foot at the moment, the new government needs a coherent strategy to dominate the national discourse.

Social media has taken the world by storm and the government can only make its communication strategies effective by learning to handle with ingenuity, competence and wisdom the tools which it offers. In this game, political and administrative performance will not be enough; the PML-N’s success will depend on how it uses its brand to set the tone and drive the discussion in a rational manner.

Trying their best these fools but will only make PTI more popular

Pakistan's political temperature has been rising amid the planned march by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) towards Islamabad, and one expects some political bickering in such situations, but some still manage to baffle the nation by stooping too low.

Such were the remarks by senior Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Maulana Rashid Soomro, who seems to have gone a bit too far in targeting his party's arch-rival, former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan, with a verbal assault.

"What is your moral standing," Soomro said without naming anyone. "Don't we know who your father was?"

The politician then asked the crowds if they didn't know how "his [Imran Khan’s] father was sacked after he was found to be involved in corruption."

The JUI-F leader went on to add, "Don't we know your mother and where she was found by your father."

Soomro then added, "We can prove that you were born out of illicit relations."

The statement drew stern reactions from social media users, who called out the leader of the religio-political party over his unfounded remarks.

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN)Standing atop a truck, thronged by a huge crowd, a visibly enraged Imran Khan repeated the claim that has become a rallying cry for his millions of supporters.

Pakistan, the ousted former Prime Minister said, was being ruled by "traitors" installed by "a foreign conspiracy" plotted in the United States.

Khan was speaking early Thursday in the capital, Islamabad, at what he said would be "the biggest ever protest" in the country's history, after demonstrators clashed with security personnel and he was forced to curtail the event.

But his announcement came with a warning: "I'm giving this imported government six days to declare new elections. Otherwise, I will re-enter Islamabad with 2 million people."

Rapturous cries of support and chants of outrage against the US and the current Pakistani administration, reverberated through the crowd.

Khan's claims of a US-led conspiracy against him have become a staple at the many rallies he has held across Pakistan in a bid to return to power following his ouster on April 10 in a parliamentary no-confidence vote.

The claims have struck a chord with a young population in a country where anti-American sentiment is common and anti-establishment feelings are being fueled by a rising cost of living crisis.

But Khan's critics say there's a problem with his claims: there is no evidence of a conspiracy.

Both the US and Pakistan's military have vigorously denied Khan's allegations, and the former Prime Minister has refused to offer anything substantive to back them up.

"Imran Khan is trying to tap into anti-American sentiments to mobilize support," said Maleeha Lodhi, a former Pakistani ambassador to the US and the United Nations. Khan's "loyal band of supporters [are] ready to discard facts and believe his foreign conspiracy narrative even though there isn't a shred of evidence to support it."

The aim, Lodhi said, is clear: Khan sees playing on decades-long animosities as his route back to power.

What are Khan's conspiracy claims

Khan has repeatedly claimed that Donald Lu, assistant secretary of the US Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, met Pakistan's ambassador to Washington in March and told him that Khan should be dismissed from power in the no-confidence vote.

Khan told CNN Monday that Lu had threatened Pakistan would "suffer consequences" unless he was removed from power.

"There is no truth to these allegations," a US State Department spokesperson told CNN, having previously denied involvement in Khan's ouster.

When asked to provide evidence for his claims, Khan said there were note takers on both the US and Pakistani sides at the meeting, but did not answer directly when asked whether he would make any notes public -- for each of the allegations.

He also said with evidence that a cipher -- an encoded diplomatic cable -- outlining the details of the meeting sent from the Pakistani ambassador had been forwarded to Pakistan's cabinet. Khan claimed he presented the minutes from that meeting to Pakistan's National Security Council (NSC).

The NSC last month staunchly rejected Khan's accusations, saying in a statement they have "found no evidence of any conspiracy."
Khan has also said he is aware that his official visit to Moscow in late February, coinciding with the day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, likely rankled American officials.

Khan has also previously accused Pakistan's military and opposition led by current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of conspiring with the US, which they both deny.

"People are so incensed and feel insulted that these criminals have been foisted upon us," Khan said.

A history of distrust

To understand how even the flimsiest of conspiracy theories could prove such a potent rallying tool in this South Asian democracy of 220 million people, experts point to mutual distrust that has been festering for decades.

It's a remarkable period of time that spans wars on Pakistan's doorstep, perceived betrayals, special forces operations and rogue CIA contractors. Against that backdrop, according to Islamabad-based political analyst Hussain Nadim, "foreign conspiracies don't appear too outlandish."

In fact, they are "believable," he said.

Much of the distrust stems from events in neighboring Afghanistan, where many Pakistanis blame US actions for destablilizing their own country -- including attacks by Afghanistan-based militants on Pakistani soil.

Fresh in Pakistani minds are the chaotic scenes of Afghans, desperate to escape the advancing Taliban, clinging to the wheels of planes taking off from Kabul airport in August 2021. And as the security situation deteriorates, many Pakistanis sense it is they who will pay the price.

The 2001 US invasion of Afghanistan following the September 11 attacks -- when it launched its hunt for Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda terrorist network -- only deepened the divide.

While Pakistan was early to sign up to George W. Bush's "war on terror," many in the Muslim-majority country saw the invasion -- and the subsequent war in Iraq -- as targeting Islam.

A string of wartime controversies exacerbated this feeling; Islamabad accused the US of killing thousands of Pakistanis in drone attacks on Pakistani soil and felt humiliated when the US did not give it advance warning of US Navy Seals' raid on Bin Laden's hideout in the Pakistani military town of Abbottabad in 2011.

Its anger was exacerbated by a fake vaccination program the CIA carried out in a bid to collect DNA samples to verify Bin Laden's presence at the compound. The operation was a success in American eyes, but Pakistanis responded with vaccine skepticism, anger and violence.

In 2011, an American CIA contractor named Raymond Davis killed two Pakistani men in Lahore. Davis claimed he shot the men in self-defense when they attempted to rob him at gunpoint, but authorities at the time called the case "clear-cut murder."

He was charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm, but was acquitted after more than $2 million in compensation was paid to the victims' families. The incident heightened tensions between the two nations, with Congress warning Pakistani leaders that billions of dollars in US aid could be jeopardized without Davis' release.

Such events have caused "irreparable damage to trust," according to Hassan Kamal Wattoo, a lawyer and columnist in Islamabad, who added it is "lending credibility to the belief that shadowy figures are plotting against Pakistan from afar."

'Blind belief'

This troubled history goes some way to explaining why even when Khan was in office -- apart from a brief period of congeniality with former US President Donald Trump -- he was keen to play the anti-American card.

Now he is seeking a return to power, Khan is reaching for a familiar tool to rally support, said Madiha Afzal, a foreign policy fellow at The Brookings Institution.

"This is part of a long history of conspiracy theories gaining traction in Pakistan, especially about the West's role in the country," she said.

"It is something his supporters believe blindly."

Khan's stellar cricket career has ensured his enduring appeal with voters. Riding a wave of popular support, he was elected four years ago on a promise to eradicate poverty and corruption and to build a "new Pakistan."

According to Brookings Institute's Afzal, Khan's supporters have been drawn by the former Prime Minister's argument that it's the corruption of the traditional parties "that have ruled Pakistan through much of its democratic period that is at the root of Pakistan's problems."

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif -- who led the campaign to remove Khan as prime minister along with his his ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N party -- is a steel dynasty scion who faces unresolved corruption charges.

His brother Nawaz Sharif is a three-time former Prime Minister who has been charged with corruption and has been barred by Pakistan's highest court from holding political office.

According to former ambassador Lodhi, there is now "a wave of sympathy for Khan" because of how he was overthrown.

And Wattoo, the lawyer, said Khan's supporters see him as a "wildly independent, fearless alternative to a more conventional political elite."

What happens next?

It's yet to be seen whether that support will be enough to return Khan to power. But what seems clear is that, more than a month into office, Shehbaz Sharif's government has done little to get to grips with the rising inflation and mounting economic crisis that contributed to Khan's ouster.

While the government on Thursday lifted a cap on fuel prices, which will allow a much-needed deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to go through, Karachi-based finance journalist Ariba Shahid said the jostling for power was only making things more difficult.

"This need for political clout is costing the average Pakistani long-term inflation, a fast-depreciating rupee, and eventually greater taxes to make up for the large deficit," she said.

Meanwhile, Khan's popularity has "soared to unprecedented heights," said Nadim, the political analyst.

To his supporters -- primarily young, middle class and tired of corruption and the political elite -- Khan is still the obvious choice as the country's leader.

'They will not do anything without America's approval,' Imran Khan rebukes govt

ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday vehemently criticised the government and said the incumbent rulers would "not do anything without the approval of the United States".

Khan was addressing party workers and leaders at the PTI's National Council Meeting after he was re-elected as the chairman unopposed as other candidates had withdrawn in his favour.

PTI leaders Umar Sarfaraz Cheema and Naik Muhammad were the other two contenders who were running for chairman. Moreover, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar have also been re-elected as the vice-chairman and the secretary-general of the party, respectively.

Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Saturday that PTI was a political party and it would not leave the field open for opponents in upcoming Punjab by-elections.

He was speaking to the media in Multan after acceptance of nomination papers of his son, Zain Qureshi for by-poll in PP-217, to be held on July 17.

Qureshi stated that PTI would continue its fights for eradication of ‘outdated system’ in the country.

He also alleged that government resources were being utilised in the election campaign of PML-N candidate.

Responding to a question about grand dialogue on economy, Qureshi stated that grand dialogue was not a bad thing but it should be done during the tenure of the government with a fresh mandate after general elections.

He stated the present government was a “temporary regime”, based on political parties having different political ideologies.

He stated that achievements of last regime of PTI were mentioned in recently-released economic survey.

The PTI government, he said, performed amicably in exports, remittance, industrial growth, agriculture uplift and many other sectors of economy, adding that it wanted transparent elections.

Responding to a question, Qureshi remarked that he did not know about the duration of the present assemblies.

To another question about issuance of ticket to his son, Qureshi observed that Zain was nominated after consultation within the party.

PTI chairman Imran Khan on Sunday said the present government was taking the country to the verge of economic collapse and feared that if his party again came to power, it would be compelled to make compromise on the future and security of the country.

He said the present coalition government led by the PML-N had no plan to rid the country of economic crisis. “In these circumstances, I fear that those who will bail us out will get those things done by us that will destroy future and security of the country,” the former prime minister said in an interview with Dr Moeed Pirzada on TV channel 92News.

He said the present rulers had not come to power to improve the crippling economy and reduce inflation but to close down their corruption cases. “Almost all people are well aware about where the country is standing, but they [present rulers] have no planning how to run the country in the current situation,” he added.

“If you have no capability to run the country, then why did you remove the PTI government. In our period, economy was taking off, but they [present rulers] have destabilised the government.”

Imran Khan said the current rulers tried to abolish the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). “An accused cannot become a judge,” he said, referring to corruption cases being faced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and others ruling the country.

“Now they will destroy all institutions of the country, except judiciary, to get NRO (concessional National Reconciliation Ordinance given by former president Gen Pervez Musharraf to two former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto).”

About the new budget, he said: “This budget seems to be not for a period of a year or so, but for one or two months. It means they [rulers] are making plans to get their cases closed down, and by appointing their like-minded officers on top positions, they will try to rig the next elections,” he claimed. The former premier said his party was going to the Supreme Court to challenge the abolition of laws relating to NAB, electronic voting machines and overseas Pakistanis’ right to vote.

About the PTI’s future plan of another long march, Mr Khan said: “First we will get permission from the SC and then stage the long march again. Will all institutions, which claimed to be democratic, give us a basic right of protest?” he asked.

PTI’s Fazl Mula on Sunday managed to flip a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seat, won by ANP in 2018, after defeating the former’s candidate in the PK-7 Swat election.

Unofficial results from 124 polling stations showed Mula secured 17,395 votes while ANP's candidate Hussain Ahmed came in second with 14,604 votes.

Ahmed had supported of the PPP, PML-N, QWP, JUI-F and others in the by-poll.

The PK-7 Swat seat fell vacant after ANP’s member of the provincial assembly (MPA) Waqar Ahmad Khan passed away on April 30, this year. As per the Constitution, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is required to hold a by-election on any lawmaker’s seat within 60 days from it having fallen vacant.

A day earlier, the ECP — in a statement — had said that it expected a tough contest between the four candidates out of which the PTI and ANP candidates were expected to be neck and neck.

The constituency has 183,308 voters in total out of which 100,288 are male and 81,220 are female.

The ECP had set up a total of 124 polling stations in the constituency with 308 booths.

ANP rejects result

Soon after the unofficial results came in, the ANP rejected PTI’s victory and announced that it would challenge the result after holding consultations.

ANP leader Aimal Wali Khan said that the results given to the polling agents on Form 45 were different from the ones shown in the government results.

Khan also questioned why the ECP was quiet on the use of government machinery and the release of funds overnight.

According to unofficial results, the ruling party candidate snatched the provincial assembly seat from the opposition party. Maula secured 18,042 votes while Hussain Ahmed, who was backed by the joint opposition alliance, came second with 14,665 votes.

The polling for the by-election began at 8am and ended at 5pm in all 124 polling stations without any break.

124 polling stations with 208 polling booths were established for the by-election.

According to the ECP, 17% voter turnout was recorded in the by-poll while out of 188,084 registered voters, a total of 33,873 used their right to franchise.

The seat had fallen vacant after the death of ANP MPA Waqar Ahmed Khan.

Meanwhile, K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan congratulated the winning candidate and the party supporters on the victory.

He said all political parties together could not compete with the PTI and added that Swat by-poll was just a teaser of the next general elections.

“The victory of PTI candidate in Swat by-election is the victory of Imran Khan's narrative,” the CM added.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to revive a strategic media cell under the federal government tasked with declaring Imran Khan and PTI as anti-state, ARY NEWS reported.

According to sources, this is a similar strategic media cell that has previously worked under Maryam Nawaz at the Prime Minister’s House.

“The prime task of the cell is to declare Imran Khan and PTI as anti-state and to present them as an anti-army politician,” they said, adding that media personalities will be used through the cell for propaganda while services of private media consultants will also be hired for it

Responding to the news, Shahbaz Gill said that similar cells were managed by Maryam Nawaz previously and now they would use the same tactics to launch propaganda against Imran Khan.

“We will not let go of such tactics and will make everyone part of it accountable and will also move the court to expose the propaganda launched through the cell,” he said. He lamented that the incumbent government was carrying out the legislation of their choice, by-passing the constitutional and moral obligations.

Former prime minister Imran Khan has expressed optimism that his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party will win all 20 seats in the upcoming by-elections on July 17, defeating all opponents in Punjab constituencies despite the unity government getting the 'support' of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Last month, the electoral authority announced that the by-polls on the 20 vacant seats of the Punjab Assembly will be held on July 17.

The by-polls will be held on PP-7, PP-83, PP-90, PP-97, PP-125, PP-127, PP-140, PP-158, PP-167, PP-168, PP-170, PP-202, PP-217, PP-224, PP-228, PP-237, PP-272, PP-273, PP-282 Layyah and PP-288.

"I challenge the 'imported' government... Whatever you do on July 17 we will win all 20 seats in the by-elections," Imran said while addressing a public gathering in Chichawatni on Wednesday.

He said that the "imported" government had become so unpopular that even if they get the support of the "umpires", they will not be able to win.

He said that Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman have been taking their turns in the government for the last 30 years but despite all their experience they have broken all records of inflation and made a mess of the economy.

"When we criticise them they lodge FIRs against us. They have registered 15 FIRs against me but I tell you even if you register 1,500 FIRs, I will not let you go," he vowed.

Saluting Express News anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan for his courage amid a loud cheer from the crowd, the former prime minister said that the ones who have fear of the Almighty do not fear anyone else.

"That is what they do... they instil fear among the masses but they fail to realise the situation is different [now]," he added.

Imran also said that Zardari is the biggest beemari (illness) of the country for the past 30 years, adding that Nawaz was plundering resources of the country despite being in London.

"Maryam Nawaz cannot say a single word of truth but she's getting a protocol. The journalists who sell their conscious are looking for the highest bidder," he added.

Calling the current rulers "thieves", the ousted PM said that even those who are standing with them will not be forgiven by the nation. "If you stop the protests then there will be anarchy in the country. The nation does not fear FIRs now. The situation has passed that point."

He also directed that 10 party workers remain present at each polling station "to stop rigging".

On May 20, the ECP had de-seated 25 MPAs of the PTI for defying party directives and voting for Hamza Shehbaz for the post of the Punjab chief minister.

The reference against the dissident lawmakers sent by Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi was accepted by the election watchdog for violating Article 63-A which pertains to defection.

The much-awaited verdict had gained political weightage in the wake of the Supreme Court’s verdict on a presidential reference, seeking its interpretation of Article 63-A, related to the disqualification of lawmakers over defection.

Bajwa has no option but to comply or face the consequences. The power of people has no compromise.

There was massive pressure building in the ranks too. He isn't the Lord of everything. His time is up now and you will see this soon inshallah. Those who were opposing him will now have more leverage. He knows the game is up..a move to Belgium is now on the cards or Australia.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan will contest by-elections on nine National Assembly seats scheduled to be held on September 25, according to a party statement issued on Friday.

“In the by-elections of 9 National Assembly constituencies to be held on September 25, Chairman Imran Khan himself will contest from all the seats,” the PTI announced on its official Twitter handle.

Earlier today, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued the schedule for the vacated national assembly seats.

According to the schedule released by the ECP, the candidates can submit their nomination papers from August 10 to 13, which will be verified by August 17, whereas the election symbols will be issued to the candidates on August 29.

According to the ECP, the by-elections will be held for the constituencies of NA-22 Mardan, NA-24 Charsadda, NA-31 Peshawar, NA-45 Kurram, NA-108 Faisalabad, NA-118 Nankana Sahib, as well as NA-237, 239, and 246 of Karachi.

The seats fell vacant after National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf On July 28 accepted the resignations of 11 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf members exactly 109 days after they resigned from their seats.

After losing 15 out of 20 seats in Punjab in by-polls and finally losing the chief ministership of the province, the government had decided to move ahead with accepting the resignations of PTI lawmakers pending since April 11.

Amid the PTI’s demand for snap polls and the government's decision to complete the remaining constitutional tenure till August 2023, elections on the vacant seats would not just be a face-off between the ruling alliance and the PTI and its allies but would turn out to be a referendum on their popularity among masses.

Sensing the move, former PTI information minister Fawad Chaudhry had tweeted that ex-deputy speaker Qasim Suri had already accepted the PTI lawmakers’ resignations and sent the same to the ECP, saying the acceptance of the resignations now has no legal value.

Fawad had said that it was a fantasy that by-elections would be held in 11 constituencies, adding that the country was moving towards general elections and the incumbent rulers won’t be able to stop that.

Previously, the NA speaker had called in all 131 PTI lawmakers, who had resigned from their assembly seats, to verify if their resignations were “genuine and voluntary”.

However, Imran had barred his party members from appearing before the NA speaker, terming it a trap. The PTI legislatures didn’t show up and since then the matter was pending before the speaker.

On April 16, the NA speaker directed the NA Secretariat to deal with the resignations of PTI lawmakers afresh and present them before him so that they could be treated as per law.

The ruling had come amid claims and speculations that some of the PTI lawmakers were not willing to resign and were conveying messages that their resignations should not be accepted.

The speaker’s direction had come days after former deputy speaker Suri’s ruling through which he had accepted the resignations of the PTI lawmakers after they resigned en masse from the assembly in protest over alleged “foreign interference” which ousted Imran Khan as prime minister.

Ashraf’s ruling had opened up the chapter of the resignation once again and it was being conjectured that the process of verification would “deliberately” take some time to give the newly formed government a breather to settle down.

The NA Secretariat did not explain why the speaker accepted the resignations of only 11 lawmakers and not others and what criteria were being followed for going ahead with a selected few and leaving 120 others in limbo. The secretariat also did not share if the NA speaker planned to accept more resignations in the coming days.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Asad Umer has said that a ‘Minus Imran Khan’ formula was proposed to them 2,3 days before the motion of no-confidence but he rejected it, ARY News reported.

The PTI leader said that he was asked to submit three names for a possible replacement of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister including his own name.

He said, “I was asked to suggest three to replace Imran Khan.”

“Are you out of your senses,” he replied to the proposers. PTI is nothing without Imran Khan, he added.

He added that Imran Khan believes in impartial institutions, he appoints unbiased people rather than his touts. The story behind the appointment of the ECP Chief would be revealed with time, he added.

He added that if anyone thinks that they can benefit from appointing the new Army Chief then they have not read Pakistan’s history.

He added that Imran Khan himself told officials about the gifts he bought from the Toshakhana. The PTI declared everything he bought from the toshakhana in his tax returns, he added.

Asad Umer said that Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif took gifts from the toshakhana illegally.

They used to think that they will get into power and stay there, but the people of Pakistan proved that they are with Imran Khan. The government has not yet recovered from July 17 by-polls shock, he added

He added that they have filed a petition against the announcement of by-polls on nine PTI seats, and they are hopeful that the court would give a stay order on the by-polls.

Imran Khan would announce their future strategy in the upcoming public gathering in Islamabad. Their ultimate purpose is to hold fresh elections, he added.

He added that despite being no legal hindrance in holding separate elections, all assemblies should dissolve together and elections should be held together. They can sit and talk over issues if the government announces the date of elections, he added.

The PTI secretary added that there are no legal grounds to disqualify Imran Khan.

PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan Sunday said the country was under the rule of ‘Yazidiyat’, as a cabal of crooks was in power.

In a tweet, the former premier asked if people would not come out against it, as Kufis did despite knowing Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) grandson was on the right path. “Rule by a cabal of crooks and their handlers brought to power through US regime change conspiracy. Will our people bow down before this conspiracy in fear or, as a nation, face up to the challenge? On August 13, our Haqeeqi Azadi jalsa, I will announce our plan to counter this fascism,” he said in a tweet.

“The people of Kufa did not come out to lend support to him (the Holy Prophet’s grandson) for fear of Yazid and let this greatest tragedy of Islam to happen. Every era has its own Yazid. Will our people also bow their head before the conspiracy out of fear or as a nation, we will face this tough challenge,” he said in a statement. The PTI chairman said he would announce in the ‘real independence public meeting’ the strategy on how to deal with fascism on August 13.

'Who has the guts to disqualify Imran' : Fawad Chaudary

ISLAMABAD: PTI leader and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry Sunday challenged the Election Commission’s authority to issue a notice to the party chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan. The Election Commission Friday issued a notice to Imran, summoning him for a hearing in compliance with its recent judgment in the prohibited funding case.

According to the ECP website, a “Notice to Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in terms of Rule 6 of Political Parties Rule 2006, in compliance of judgment by the commission dated August 2 in case title Akbar Sher Babar” was issued. It has been fixed for a hearing at 10am on August 23.

The PTI leader’s response to the notice came during a press conference in Islamabad. Reacting to the ECP’s ruling in the prohibited funding case, Fawad said the party had received Rs20 million in 13 accounts. “This amount was released to the party officials for office operations. In what capacity is the FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) issuing notices to party leaders?” he asked, reported Geo.

The FIA started its probe into the party’s accounts on Saturday and served notices to various PTI leaders. Speaking of another case fixed for hearing pertaining to the question of disqualification of Imran Khan, Fawad remarked: “Who has the guts to disqualify Imran Khan?”

“Do you want to create a one-party system in Pakistan?” he asked. Fawad said the party had made preparations for the “final stage” of its ongoing anti-government campaign. “A historic rally will be held on August 13,” he said, adding: “We will not let them run away from [holding] elections.”

Directing his guns at the PPP, Fawad said the PPP’s “account auditors are nowhere to be found” and that it wasn’t the PPP, but rather the PPP Parliamentarians that fought the election. He further said that instead of the party leader, it was the general secretary that submitted the certificate to declare expenses of Rs232 million. “Money coming from America came directly to Zardari’s account,” he alleged. “There is no proof of the LLC created by the PPP,” he alleged further.

For the PML-N, he said, “there is no information at all regarding the sources of its funds”. The PTI leader recalled that the Islamabad High Court had directed the Election Commission to decide the case of funding of all parties, but it only issued a verdict on PTI’s funding.

“According to the law, every political party has to be audited. One party cannot fund another party,” he said. Why is the Election Commission saving PML-N and PPP?” he demanded to know. “It seems the Election Commission does not care about its reputation,” he said, adding that “the Election Commission did not have respect even earlier”.

Earlier in the day, responding to the remarks of Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah, Fawad said he was about as important as the Kohsar police station’s SHO (Station House Officer) and that he should “speak according to his status”.

He cautioned the minister against having to deal with more than he bargained for, without elaborating any further. “It’s better to be safe,” he added. Fawad said the party leaders who had been summoned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) did not hold public posts back in 2011-12, adding that a JIT was being made in Punjab on May 25 incidents. He said the FIA had issued notices to senior PTI leaders including Asad Qaiser, Imran Ismail, and Ali Zaidi, while four employees of the PTI office had also been summoned.

He then shared some details and explained that there were a total of 13 accounts in which the total amount received by PTI people was Rs2 crore. “It is unfortunate that Marriyum Aurangzeb has become information minister and is claiming as if billions have been transferred in these accounts,” he contended.

Fawad said in the original documents submitted to the Election Commission in 2019, these Rs2 crore were declared and after that these 13 accounts were declared before the Election Commission on October 23, 2019 as well. Moreover, Rs2 crore was transferred because when the funding was completed in 2012, there were elections in 2013.

“This money was transferred to various PTI offices to run administrative matters in respect of holding these elections. Dr. Arif Alvi was running PTI Karachi office, so money was sent to him in Karachi, PTI office in Zamzama was being run by Imran Ismail; therefore, money was also sent to him,” he pointed out.

He accused Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah of talking beyond his status saying 80 percent of the Pakistani population was currently ruled by PTI and two major provinces were completely with PTI, while Rana Sanaullah was only the SHO of Kohsar, so he should not say such things.

At the same time, he said, “we have decided that dozens of FIR requests are coming up on the 25th of May (against) including Rana Sanaullah, Ata Tarar, Ahmed Malik and Hamza Shehbaz, so a JIT will be formed which will summon all these people. Just as we are expected to cooperate with the FIA, we hope that these people will also cooperate with the JIT in these investigations and will not hide in Islamabad”.

Fawad said in addition to the Model Town case, the Punjab chief minister had already announced that his government will move the case forward expeditiously. “We hope that the federal government will cooperate with us in this regard and if the police want these people, they will be removed from office and allowed to be arrested,” he said.

Another day, another huge crowd coming to listen to Imran Khan.

This public support is the reason why the PDM lotas are scared to have imminent elections. They know that the public support that Imran enjoys will overpower their rigging.

I remember so well known posters here claiming that Imran has "lost the people's confidence."🤣🤣🤣

Maryam and Billo will only dream to even assemble half the crowd Imran manages to attract in his adresses. Who even wants to listen those jokers openly lying to hide their own crimes.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has said that a plot was being hatched to disqualify him in Toshakhana and prohibited funding cases to pave way for PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s return from London.

“They have made a new plan to register new cases and disqualify Imran Khan in Toshakhana, and prohibited funding cases,” he said on Saturday while addressing a mammoth rally at National Hockey Stadium in Lahore.

Imran said the purpose to disqualify him was to strike a deal with him to nullify Nawaz’s lifetime disqualification so that both can compete in political arena.

“Under the conspiracy Nawaz will be brought back to the country by the end of September… and a character assassination campaign will be launched to malign me.”

“Don't compare me with a dacoit… listen to me conspirators, no matter what you do I will not strike any deal,” he remarked.

The former prime minister said pitting the PTI against the army was part of a “foreign conspiracy” to cause harm to the country.

“Imran Khan will never want the army of this country to be weak… those who run movement for real freedom always want strong army and my criticism is always positive.”

Imran also announced launching a mass contact campaign under which he said he will stage rallies in various cities of the country including Karachi, Rawalpindi and others. He said his movement for “real freedom” has entered into its decisive and final stage.

“When they toppled my government they thought people would distribute sweets but millions of people took to the streets to protest against my ouster.”

Imran said the incumbent rulers were trying to instill fear among the masses through intimidation and asked people not to be scared of their intimidation tactics in order to achieve “real freedom”.

Earlier, Imran arrived at the venue to an enormous crowd of ardent supporters, eagerly awaiting what the former premier has to relay on the eve of Pakistan's 75th Independence anniversary.

“Today you have to listen to my address patiently. I will give you roadmap to achieve ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ [real freedom],” Imran told the crowd in his opening remarks.

Imran while explaining his strategy to achieve “real freedom” said fear was the most dangerous idol which enslaved human beings. “A slave nation can never prosper.”

“We got an independent country by giving millions of sacrifices… respect cannot be earned through wealth… those who fear death can never achieve anything big.”

Imran said since joining politics he had been speaking about turning Pakistan into an independent and sovereign country, maintaining that his narrative of “real freedom” was not aimed at wooing the voters.

Referring to PML-N leaders’ statements on economic crisis, Imran said the two families — Sharifs and Zardaris — are responsible for destroying the country’s economy. “They have been plundering for the last 30 years, made offshore assets worth billions of rupees and now they are asking who is responsible for this mess.”

Imran said Pakistan suffered huge human and economic losses after the former military ruler, Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf bowed before the US and joined it’s so called war on terror.

“They [US] carried out drone strikes on Pakistan but Sharif and Zardari never raised their voice against this oppression,” he said, adding that he was not anti-American but will never compromise on national interest.

He also reiterated his allegations that US official Donald Lu threatened that Pakistan would suffer consequences if he was not removed from power through vote of no-confidence.

“I visited Russia because I wanted cheaper gas for my country. I went there to help my nation. But they (US) became upset because I didn't listen to their orders.”

Imran said he will never let his nation to become “slave of any superpower” and will walk through difficult path to achieve freedom.

“This movement for real freedom will continue until we topple this ‘imported government’,” he added.

Pervaiz Elahi

Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi while addressing the rally said he will not rest until he “takes revenge from those involved in inflicting violence” on the PTI workers during their May 25 long march.

The PML-Q leader also warned Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, saying soon he will be put behind bars and “handed over death sentence” in the Model Town case.

Elahi said PTI Chairman Imran and army have cordial ties and added that opponents have failed to create rifts between the two.

The former ruling party is staging a “grand power show” on Friday to celebrate Pakistan's “haqeeqi (real) freedom”.

Screens have been set-up in major cities across the country to live telecast the speech of former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Last week, the party had shifted the venue of its August 13 power show from Parade Ground in Islamabad to Lahore’s hockey stadium, hours after the TLP announced its “Nazriya Pakistan March” and conference at Faizabad Interchange in the federal capital.

Since his ouster back in April, Imran has upped the ante against the ruling coalition and has repeatedly alleged that the United States through the incumbent rulers removed him from the office of the prime minister.

This will be his first power show since the PTI secured a resounding victory in Punjab by-polls held in July and formed a government in the province.

Speaking to the reporters at the rally's venue earlier today, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said ex-PM Imran would reveal the future course of action as the party’s “movement for real freedom has entered its final stage”.

Commenting on the raid on PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar’s house, he said the Punjab government would declare Tarar and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah “wanted” if they did not appear before the investigation team formed to probe the crackdown launched against PTI leaders during the May 25 long march.

He also slammed former Punjab chief minister Hamza Shehbaz, saying “he fled to London despite serious money laundering charges against him”.

Fawad also hoped that PTI leader Shhahz Gill — who has been in judicial custody for passing controversial statements against the armed forces — would be granted bail on Monday.

It really is. They have tried everything and today IK is close to getting to the full civilian rule that has alluded many. Any polls resembling a fair elections will mean a 2/3 majority

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday urged the “neutrals” — a tacit reference to establishment — to review its policies, saying stability would not come to the country unless free and fair elections are held.

Addressing a seminar on media freedom in Islamabad the PTI chairman asked the neutrals, “Are you worried about this country..Do you know where this country is heading..”

Imran said that the country’s economy cannot be fixed by borrowing loans and without wealth creation. “No one is ready to invest in Pakistan due to instability... securing loans from Saudi Arabia and other countries is not a solution... it’s like treating cancer with aspirin...”

Imran said that political and economic stability would only come through free and fair elections.

“I want to the tell the neutrals that there is still time to review your decisions... decisions made behind closed doors are often not right..,” he said, adding that come what may he will not accept the coalition government led by PML-N.

Speaking about the media freedom, Imran maintained that as the prime minister he was never scared of independent press.

The former premier said that the dictators and corrupt politicians curbed the media freedom to hide their corruption and wrongdoings. “But freedom of speech does not allow one to malign others and level baseless allegations.”

He also accused his opponents of corruption saying former premier Nawaz Sharif, while in power, built 17 factories out of plundered wealth. “Corruption is a symptom of absence of rule of law..”

He also wondered about the role of establishment in curbing corruption, saying he always thought that establishment was against corrupt rulers.

“Why did you let these corrupt leaders be imposed upon the country when you yourself [establishment] would say that they are corrupt,” he added.

He also revealed that agencies informed him about the corruption scandal of incumbent rulers when he was the prime minister.

Imran also reiterated that attempts were being made to disqualify him and bring back Nawaz Sharif, who was disqualified for life by the Supreme Court, from London to put both of them in a same position.

Speaking about the PTI leader Shahbaz Gill’s sedition case, Imran said that no action was taken against other political leaders including Nawaz, her daughter Maryam, and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for targeting the state institutions. “But on the other hand Shahbaz Gill was stripped naked and tortured.”

“This is all being done to spread fear to force people to accept this imported government..”

Polling for the by-election in Karachi’s NA-245 constituency has ended and the counting of votes is currently underway to pick a representative for the seat that fell vacant after the death of Aamir Liaquat Hussain.

The polling process started at 8:00 am and continued till 5:00 pm. The voting time was extended for one more hour for polling stations 143 and 144.

15 candidates belonging to different political parties are contesting the by-election from the National Assembly constituency 245. Among them, the most prominent are Farooq Sattar (Indp) PTI’s Mehmood Baqi Moulvi, MQM’s Moid Anwar and PSP’s Syed Hafeezuddin.

KARACHI: PTI's candidate Mahmood Moulvi is leading the NA-245 by-polls with 6,105 votes as per unofficial results from 63 polling stations.

MQM-P's candidate Moeed Anwar remains second with 2,146 votes, followed by TLP's Muhammad Ahmed Raza who secured 1,360 votes.

Former MQM leader Farooq Sattar has only managed to get 625 votes, while PSP's Syed Hafeezuddin received 249 votes.

Voting for by-polls in the NA-245 constituency ended at 5pm, after which counting of votes began earlier.

Earlier, voting for the by-poll on Karachi's crucial NA-245 constituency began at 8am on Sunday morning an ended at 5pm, with 15 candidates in the run for the seat that fell vacant due to PTI MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain's death earlier this year.

The contesting candidates include MQM-P's Mueed Anwar, the PTI's Mehmood Maulvi, the Pak Sarzameen Party's (PSP) Syed Hafeezud Din, the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan'S (TLP) Muhammed Ahmed Raza and MQM Bahali Committee's Farooq Sattar as an independent candidate.

A tough contest is expected between PTI, MQM-P and Sattar and MQM-P seems to have an edge as the PPP and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) announced their support for its candidate while withdrawing their own contenders.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said it finalised arrangements to hold the NA-245 by-polls in Karachi amid strict security.

The electoral body said 263 polling stations have been set up, of which 60 have been declared sensitive and 203 most sensitive.

The by-poll in the constituency was scheduled for July 27, however, the ECP postponed the election owing to heavy rains in the metropolis.

A strict security plan has been chalked out to maintain law and order during polling, according to the ECP.

Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi Javed Alam Odho said that paratroopers are standing guard at the polling stations besides the police.

The police official said no political leader will be allowed to have a private gunman. There are CCTV cameras at highly sensitive polling stations, he said.

Urging the people to exercise their democratic right without any fear, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja directed authorities to ensure transparency and maintain peace at all costs during the polling process.

“Riots and interference in the polling process will not be tolerated,” the CEC said and warned of swift action against violation of the law.

He directed the police and law enforcement agencies to remain alert and apprehend those who try to create unrest inside the polling station.

Indiscriminate and swift action would be taken against every violation of the law, he vowed.

The CEC urged the people not to believe in rumours and contact the ECP’s provincial and central control rooms for verified information and for lodging their complaints.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan has vowed not to surrender in the struggle for real independence, ARY News reported on Sunday.

While addressing the public gathering at Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh today, Imran Khan said, “Only nation can defeat the corrupt people. I will stay on roads until getting the real independence.”

He congratulated the PTI organisers for holding a successful public gathering in a very less time. “Today, a campaign is started in the country that aims to deprive the nation of real independence.”

Khan said that the youth is the future of Pakistan and they will decide the fate of the country. He criticised the discriminative enforcement of law separately for rich and poor people in the country.

The PTI chief criticised that he was ousted from power through an alleged foreign conspiracy when the country was witnessing significant economic growth. He said, “Regime change was staged in Pakistan as Imran Khan has rejected the US slavery. Countries design their foreign policies for the betterment of their nations. I did not want my nation to join the US-led war.”

While criticising the war on terror, Khan said that thousands of Pakistanis were martyred in the US-led war and he wanted to permanently come out of the American-led war. He once again criticised, “If India can purchase cheap oil from Russia despite being an ally of the US, then why not us? If India can provide petrol on Rs25 lower rates then why he cannot take the same step?”

Regarding May 25 rally, Khan said that the incumbent government used illegal tactics to target PTI workers and he concluded the sit-in to avoid bloodshed.

Condemning Shahbaz Gill’s arrest, Imran Khan said, “Shahbaz Gill was abducted and tortured. I did not know the whereabouts of Gill for two to three days until the lawyers told me about the condition of Shahbaz Gill.”

“Shahbaz Gill is a professor and an educator in the United States (US).

“Shahbaz Gill is a professor and an educator in the United States (US). He came here to serve his country and participate in the struggle for building a new Pakistan. Gill’s driver and his driver’s wife were also abducted. They captured photos of Shahbaz Gill after subjecting him to torture.”

He added that he will never accept the rulership of the thieves.

While condemning the suspension of ARY News transmission, Imran Khan said, “ARY News went off-air after the channel presented the stance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The Number 1 channel of Pakistan, ARY News was closed to stop presenting PTI’s stance.”

He criticised that individuals were receiving threats for giving statements independently on media.

He reiterated the call for the organisation of fresh elections to end the political and economic instability in Pakistan.

first information report (FIR) was filed against PTI chairperson Imran Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act in Islamabad’s Margala Police Station on Sunday.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of duty magistrate Ali Javed.

The action was taken against the former prime minister after he delivered a threatening speech during his party’s rally in the federal capital’s F-9 park.

According to the FIR’s content, Khan blatantly targeted Islamabad Police’s inspector general (IG) and deputy inspector general (DIG), and Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry, who ordered Shahbaz Gill’s physical remand in the wake of his on-going trail for uttering seditious remarks.

The FIR’s text further read that the purpose of Khan’s speech was to intimidate the judiciary and Islamabad Police in a bid to prevent them from fulfilling their legal obligations.

The speech by Khan has instilled anxiety, terror, and unrest among the public, stated the FIR.

PTI chairperson Imran Khan on Saturday announced that his party would file cases against Islamabad’s Inspector General (IG) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and magistrate Zeba Chaudhry.

While addressing his party rally in Islamabad’s F-9 park — held to condemn the alleged torture on his chief of staff Shahbaz Gill, the PTI chief named and threatened the female magistrate who ordered Gill’s physical remand.

“IG, DIG Islamabad, we will not spare you! We will file cases against you” Khan threatened the police officials, announcing to file cases against them and the magistrate.

“Magistrate Zeba Chuadhry, we will not spare you too!” the former prime minister angrily said, alleging that Chaudhry knew that Shahbaz’s was tortured and yet ordered his remand.

These losers aren't afraid of looking stupid.

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday asked the "neutrals" why he was ousted through a ‘foreign-funded’ vote of no-confidence in parliament, saying that his only crime is that he has not accepted the "imported" government.

"Now Pemra is also in the game. What has Imran khan done? His only crime is that he is not accepting this imported government," he said while addressing a public gathering at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi.

Imran revealed that people who come to his residence to support him get calls from agencies, asking why they were there. "I want to ask whether you are neutral or not. If not then why are you damaging this country so much? Why do you want to stand with these people (the current government)? Do you think the nation will believe these people who have been looting this nation for the past 30 years," he questioned.

He said that when police resorted to violence on PTI’s May 25 rally, they were informed that they had orders to do so. "It means they were under pressure from the neutrals," he added.

Imran said that the chief election commissioner is giving all his verdicts against PTI as they wanted to disqualify him but when they seek information they get replies that they are under pressure from the "boots".

"Now in Shahbaz Gill's case, police say they are under pressure... whatever is happening in Pakistan will be blamed on you," he said while addressing the "neutrals".

During his address, a video clip was also played in which Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders can be seen issuing statements against the military and judiciary. Imran asked why Shahbaz Gill is being treated any differently.

"I'm saying all this today because I know their plan. I know what Mr Y is planning but let me tell you today that Imran Khan will not budge even if you throw me in jail… I will never go abroad… I will live and die in this country."

He said whatever is being planned including his disqualification will damage Pakistan. "PTI is the only federal party in Pakistan right now. PTI has the power to unite. Army alone cannot keep a country united… political parties do that. If you weaken PTI you will weaken the country," he added.

The former premier said that if PTI is pushed against the wall, the country will face a situation similar to Sri Lanka. "If we step aside who will stop these people from making the current situation even worse in the country? There is only one way out and that is free and transparent elections," he added.

He said that a plan has been made to systematically suppress PTI, adding that they are trying to make an example out of Shahbaz Gill. "He was abducted, stripped naked and beaten... we were told by our lawyers what they did to him," he added.

Imran said that he did not want to end his May 25 rally but he did so anyway to avoid bloodshed in the country. "I will not rest until I give real freedom to my people."

He also congratulated his party workers and supporters in advance for winning the NA-245 by-elections in Karachi.

Talking about the strategy of the PTI in case of an adverse judgement against its chairman, Fawad Chaudhry said Tuesday it is for those who can disqualify Imran, not for the PTI, to think that how would they survive (in their positions) if they oust Imran Khan.

Speaking in a TV programme, he said the masses would decide if a judgement is delivered against Imran. Speaking in another TV programme, he found commonality in the cases of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Yousuf Raza Gilani and Nawaz Sharif.

He claimed these leaders had lost popularity when removed, while Imran Khan is at the “pinnacle of his popularity.” When asked if he means the courts cannot penalize a popular leader, Fawad said they could not punish (a popular leader) in political cases.

When reminded the courts had convicted PMLN’s Talal Chaudhry and Nihal Hashmi, he advised the anchor against comparing Imran Khan with the likes of Talal or Nihal. Speaking in yet another TV programme, he defended Shaukat Tarin’s talk regarding damage to the state, but added that the audio was leaked by joining various parts of the conversation.

PTI Chief Imran Khan, in his Bahawalpur speech, warned the government that he can turn into a ‘cornered tiger’ if pushed against the wall, ARY News reported.

Addressing the public gathering in Bahawalpur the PTI Chief said that he is grateful that God has awakened our nation. The person that believes in God is never afraid of anyone else, he added.

He added that there is a turncoat politician in Bahawalpur who was with the PTI for three years but then sold his loyalties. Bahawalpur, never vote for such turncoats again, he added

Taking to the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Imran Khan said that nation works hard but politicians like him steal their money and launder it out of the country. Maryam Nawaz used to say that she does not have any property anywhere in the world, she is so poor she should be put in the Ihsaas program, he added.

However, the Panama leaks disclosed that she owns flats worth billions in London. Those flats were bought with the money stolen from the people of the country, he added.

Imran Khan said that he is preparing his country to fight for real independence. We have to fight together to claim independence from these corrupt leaders. There are two ways to bring revolution to the country, one is the Imam Khomeini model and the second is by vote, he added.

The former premier added that Fazlur Rehman uses religion for political gains.

He added that the country was progressing after 17 years in their era, despite COVID the country’s growth was 6%. Farmers made record profits in their era, they kept petroleum prices low to facilitate people, he added.

He added that only a 5-year government after free and fair elections can provide political stability to the country. There is no economic stability without political stability, he added.

The PTI Chief said that no one wants to invest in Pakistan due to the instability. If 500,000 thousand people invest in the country. we would not need IMF anymore, he added.

We will have to establish a rule of law to convince overseas Pakistanis to invest in the country. Media will not be allowed to defame someone in new Pakistan, he added.

He warned the government saying he has been facing hardships for the past 4 months, including media blacklisting, arrests and terrorism cases. He could have staged a sit-in but avoided conflict, he added.

The nation stands, including Sindh, stand with him in this fight for real independence, and will free Sindh from Zardari, he added. Can turn into a cornered tiger if they push him against the wall, the PTI Chief warned.

He said that his opponents would not have a place to hide if he gives a call for protest, which is nearing. Announce free elections and save the country, he added.

Faced with the increasing momentum being generated by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) apparently has no choice but to turn to its supreme leader’s daughter and party vice president, Maryam Nawaz, to carry out much-needed canvassing ahead of upcoming polls on six national and provincial seats.

By-elections for the National Assembly’s NA-157 (Multan) seat is scheduled to be held on Sept 11, while for NA-108 (Faisalabad) and NA-118 (Nankana Sahib) on Sept 25. Similarly, the province’s PP-139 (Sheikhupura) and PP-241 (Bahawalnagar) constituencies go to by-polls on Sept 11, while polling in PP-209 (Khanewal) will be held on Oct 2.

After facing a humiliating defeat in the by-polls on 15 Punjab Assembly seats in July that cost the party the office of the chief minister, the PML-N leadership appears much less enthusiastic about spearheading the election campaign in these six constituencies.

The party candidates contesting for five of the six seats are said to be unhappy with the leadership for not holding any ‘grand’ rally led by a top party leader in their constituencies. They are of the view that they need their leadership to back them in order to put up a tough contest for the PTI chief owing to his rising popularity.

“On the complaint of the candidates, party Quaid Nawaz Sharif has asked his daughter Maryam to hold at least a few rallies ahead of the by-elections on the three NA and as many as Punjab Assembly seats,” a party insider said. Maryam, who led and addressed impressive rallies for the July 17 by-polls on 20 PA seats, has yet to express any interest in the upcoming elections, he said.

“So, on her father’s direction, she is likely to hold some rallies in these constituencies, starting from PP-241 on Thursday,” the insider said, adding former chief minister Hamza Shehbaz, who otherwise would look after several issues the party candidates faced in the by-polls, was keeping a low profile.

Speaking to Dawn, a PML-N leader from Punjab wondered why the party leadership had not shown any seriousness about the by-polls. “The PML-N cannot afford to lose these elections as a defeat will establish that Imran Khan is stronger than the 13-party ruling alliance. Imagine, in such a scenario, who will seek PML-N tickets in Punjab in the next general elections,” he questioned, and urged the leadership to spend all its energies into ensuring a victory.

A source also said the party leadership is apparently banking on Imran’s disqualification from courts in various cases, which it believes will impact other PTI candidates as well. Only that can be a blessing in disguise for the ruling coalition, which otherwise appears least interested in canvassing or enthusiastically contesting the by-polls.

Of the three NA seats up for grabs in Punjab, ousted premier Imran is contesting on the two (Faisalabad and Nankana Sahib) that fell vacant after the acceptance of resignations of PTI MNAs by the National Assembly speaker.

On NA-157 Multan, PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has fielded his daughter, Meher Bano Qureshi, against the ruling alliance candidate Ali Musa Gilani, a son of Senate opposition leader Yousuf Raza Gilani of the PPP. There are reports that the Gilani family wants Maryam Nawaz to hold a public meeting in this constituency ahead of the Sept 11 by-poll, though the PML-N leader has shown reluctance.

Meanwhile, Maryam continues to lash out at Mr Khan. “Imran’s stance about Pak is conditional. If the Army remains neutral, I will drag it through the mud, if courts do not legalise my crimes, I will blacken their faces, if ECP exposes the theft of foreign funding, I will attack their integrity. The curse has to be dealt with,” the PML-N vice president tweeted on Tuesday.

I think they have decided that they will leave a moth eaten country devastated and nearing bankrupt for Khan. They know they can't win an election but out of spite want to leave rubble behind. What they don't realise is that the people of Pakistan will unite and fix things as they showed under the PTIs recent govt. No Khan has now made the timing of the election entirely irrelevant. Whenever they hold them he will win because showbaaz as we always knew is a useless fraud..

I remember when khan got taken down a very good friend of mine sent me a WhatsApp message which was an amalgamation of comments and points from his lahore liberal policy friends. In this message these imbeciles claimed showbaaz had a photographic memory and knew pakistans procurement laws and policy by heart..( well of course he would know that because he is a crook). Also that he was an insider and would appoint fixers..

Of course it is and was balony. But it shows the complete disconnect these liberal morons have with the rest of the country. No2 showbaaz is a busted flush. A small man reduced to a footnote. One who people will curse at home and who will never be remembered abroad. A small minded fool who can't think beyond the superficial.
