Tensions high after violence during Hindu religious procession

India's Supreme Court has ordered authorities to stop demolishing illegal shops and walls around a mosque in a predominantly Muslim area of New Delhi. The court is hearing petitions challenging a controversial demolition drive that targets people, mainly Muslims, accused of criminal acts. It comes days after violence during a Hindu religious procession. The tensions are the latest in a series of incidents against India's Muslim community. Afzal Ahmed has more.

Are Muslims in India’s Haryana facing ‘ethnic cleansing’? | The Take

Near India’s capital, in Haryana state, demolitions of more than 1,200 homes and shops in a Muslim-majority area have followed clashes that killed six people. The demolitions have been halted for now, but this week, a local High Court raised the idea that the ones that took place might be an act of “ethnic cleansing” by the state. The clashes and demolitions are seen by many Muslims as the latest in a trend of violence in India during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nine years in power. So what space exists for Muslims in India?

Reading this thread has been an eye-opener for me, and it has led me to the conclusion that minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh are treated much better. If that is indeed the case, then India should take a leaf out of their book and treat its minorities to the same standard as Pakistan and Bangladesh treat their own.

Perhaps we should even hold a referendum and ask Indian minorities whether they would be satisfied with such an approach. After all, as I’ve said many times, barking is easy, but putting something into action is far more difficult. If the argument truly is that minorities receive better treatment in Pakistan and Bangladesh, then logically, if India were to adopt similar standards, it should be acceptable to everyone making that claim.

well the amount of articles and videos has been posted, it does show you what the neutral journalists believe which country is backwards hence they go thr and show us.

Just how you say minorities in pakistan and bangladesh, we keep telling you, we know they can be treated badly by idiots, however just like how satan worshippers are deemed as minorities in every counntry = many have know converted / re-verted back into another religion = this is very similar to hindus in pakistan / bangladesh = thr reverting back to islam - just like how Yousuf Youhana reverted back to islam.

Just like how hinduism is decreasing even in India, even how you indians has the worlds biggest illegal immigration, especially to US / UK / Canada / Australia = you hindus are decreasing.

Just like how the amount of hindu temples are decreasing in india, we don't see this with muslims, you live in bradford = look at the amount of mosques, still being created, compare this to your so called hindu temples = quarter full to what they used to be back in 1990's and 1980's. The indian youths today are not religious, in the US / UK / Canada / Australia - hindu youths only go to temple for business purpose.

I know you cry a lot that hinduism is decreasing and yet even yourself, you dont follow hinduism properley, you pick and choose which part you want to follow.

Islam is growing all around the world, the christians and catholics in the west are converting to islam, hindus in india / US / UK/ Canada / Australia are converting to islam.

Muslim mobs attack police in Delhi with stones over a rumor that a Mosque was being destroyed by the police. Several policemen were injured. This was at 2 am in the morning. Well past most people’s sleeping time. Clearly shows that they are organized criminals. No one will get stones at the drop of a hat. Islamists are everywhere in India.

Illegal slum with a Madrasa and mosque. If government acts on it and demolish the illegal slum, it becomes a full blown riot and Congress/AAP and other cronies will start blaming BJP and Hindutva. :salute

Hindutva are unintentionally running a full time PR campaign proving that intolerance in India isn’t an exception, it’s a feature. All Pakistanis have to do is point out how one religious extremist group treats another, and Hindutva immediately jump in like, Allow us to demonstrate this live from India.

Absolutely comedy. No script, no rehearsal, just pure self owning.

Influential landlord Sarfaraz Nizamani allegedly shot Kailash Kolhi, a poor daily-wage worker from Sindh's Hindu Kolhi community who had built a small hut on the land. Thousands protested for two days, blocking key roads and demanding Nizamani's arrest, a murder case filing delayed five days, and protection for Kolhi's family fearing retaliation. After talks with officials, the sit-in ended Friday with a one-week arrest deadline, highlighting Sindh's tensions between powerful landowners and vulnerable tenants.

I think this is the new normal. Hindus will not sit quiet anymore, be it in Pakistan or Bangladesh. It is not 1990s anymore and gone are the days of Kashmiri Pandit exodus. Now Hindus know Modi is sitting at centre in India and that has only made them brave.

A very sad incident.

Hopefully these protests can sprark some change in minority treatment and also how these feudals are always above the law.

Treatment of minorities is a blot in countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh. I honestly don't have much hope of improvement either. Lets be honest, when your COAS Asim Munir openly says Hindus are different from us, it is state sponsored.

Also, you will never find usual suspects in this thread. If it was in India, they would be spamming this thread with Hindutva, Modi, Tommy Robinson etc etc.

RIP to the victim.

The unfortunate truth about the third world countries is that they are for the powerful, once someone gets power they will act in the same exact way as the current power act. Majority of the population is brainwashed and low IQ, they don’t understand they are just tools to be used by the powerful.

Tragic incident.

It is possible it was a dispute gone wrong. Religion wasn't a factor. Let's see what the investigation finds.

It’s genuinely very sad news but it’s important to be clear:

this does not appear to be a religiously motivated attack how @Rajdeep is trying to frame it, facts don’t support that angle. Not everything needs to be twisted into a religious issue, and it’s unfair to mislead people by presenting it in that light.

Will you condemn this? :inti

There are thousands of minority attacks like this in India. All are from recent times.

Things are far worse in India than any other South Asian country when it comes to minority persecution.

Way too many videos on the daily of these Hindudva terrorists terrorising minorities in India. Have heard horror stories in person from minorities, even they say things were much better in India before the Gujrat butcher terrorist Modi took power and took the entire country downhill with deep hatred and terrorism against minorities becoming a norm in India.

Their mass Hindudva radicalisation says India is bound to broken further into pieces, just seeing majority of Indian Hindu posters here and their deep hated for Muslims and Islam, it makes complete sense why that third world country is going further downhill

Islamophobia Watch: India From Partition to Persecution

MEND Leicester conducted an interview with world-renowned journalist CJ Werleman and human rights activist and film producer Dr. Manisha Nathaniel Maganji unraveling the situation on the ground for Muslims and other minorities in Modi’s India.

Dr. Manisha who is co-founder of the group International Network Of Democratic Indians Abroad( I.N.D.I.A ) and co-producer of the Film, Covid-19 The Blame Game, spoke of why she felt the need to highlight the plight of minorities in India. She emphasised the politicisation of the (peaceful) Hindu religion to fulfil the government’s Hindutva narrative and how othering minorities was a tactical strategy. She described the poverty index and illiteracy index as being unacceptable in India and with many other problems exasperated by the pandemic they were scapegoating the minorities for their problems.

This sentiment was echoed by CJ Werleman explaining that Modi was part of the international populist train where nationalism is the most important thing and to appeal to nationalist sentiments other groups, usually minorities are otherised and more often demonised.

They both spoke of horrific incidents of attacks and murders with the formation of vigilante groups working with impunity and some cases alongside law enforcers with C J declaring that he believed that” 200 million Muslims in India are on the brink of genocide”.

The interview went into some depth about the role the media had played in creating such a toxic environment and how many media outlets appeared to be a mouthpiece for the ruling BJP party.

Horrific videos and photos were shown of both police and public brutality towards both Muslims and Dalits with Dr. Manisha also explaining that many Christians have been targeted too.

The show went on to explore ways people can support those that are being persecuted in India. They emphasised assisting established organisations like INDIA and support the work being done by CJ financially.

To raise awareness in this country by contacting your local MP and putting pressure on our government to raise concerns with their counterparts in India.

Finally, the show went on to discuss what lessons could be learned for those of us living in the west to ensure we or our children do not suffer a similar fate. How standing to wrong regardless of who it is committed against is a civil and moral duty if we do not wish to suffer a similar fate. The importance of working with and challenging, when necessary, governments on their policies to ensure civil liberties are not slowly eroded.

Overall, a fantastic thought-provoking, sometimes depressing but mostly inspiring event that shone a light on the atrocities being conducted against minorities in India but a larger light on our responsibility to all the oppressed peoples of the world.

India monks call for 'Muslim genocide' in hate speech summit

Outrage as far-right religious and political groups seek Rohingya-like mass murder and exodus of Indian Muslims, in presence of the leaders of ruling BJP, in a three-day Hindutva conclave held in northern Haridwar city.

Leaders of several far-right groups with ties to the ruling Narendra Modi's government have called for ethnic cleansing of minorities in India, especially the country's 200 million Muslims, in a three-day summit, according to local media and online videos of the event, sparking widespread outrage and calls for action against them.

The three-day hate speech conclave was held by the controversial Hindutva figure Yati Narsinghanand from December 17 to 19 in northern India's Haridwar city where multiple speakers made calls to kill minorities and attack their religious spaces, The Quint reported on Wednesday.

"Economic boycott won't work. Hindu groups need to update themselves. Swords look good on stage only. This battle against Muslims will be won by those with better weapons," Narsinghanand, an engineer-turned-firebrand leader, told the gathering as the crowd cheered.

Another speaker Sadhvi Annapurna, general secretary of the Hindu Mahasabha [Hindu Grand Assembly], called for the mass murder of Muslims, according to the English news website The Wire.

"Nothing is possible without weapons. If you want to eliminate their population then kill them. Be ready to kill and be ready to go to jail. Even if 100 of us are ready to kill 20 lakhs of them [Muslims', then we will be victorious, and go to jail," Annapurna said.

The Wire said the summit witnessed an "extraordinary quantity of hate speech, mobilisations to violence and anti-Muslim sentiment."

Political encouragement from BJP?

BJP politicians Ashwini Upadhyay and Udita Tyagi also participated that "gave the event a level of political encouragement from the ruling party," The Wire reported.

Speakers cited 2017 mass atrocities against Rohingya Muslims and their exodus from Myanmar as an example and called for a similar policy to enable Muslims' ethnic cleansing in India.

"Like in Myanmar, the police here, the politicians here, the army and every Hindu must pick up weapons and we will have to conduct this cleanliness drive (ethnic cleansing). There is no solution apart from this," said Swami Prabodhanand Giri, head of the Hindu Raksha Sena [Save Hindu Army], a far-right group based in northern Uttarakhand state.

"If I was present in the parliament when PM Manmohan Singh said that minorities have first right over national resources, I would've followed Nathuram Godse, I'd have shot him six times in the chest with a revolver," said another speaker Dharamdas Maharaj, according to The Quint.

Godse assassinated Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, 1948, and is hailed by Hindutva groups in India. Maharaj's remarks were made in reference to Singh's 2006 Parliament speech in which the then-prime minister said Indian minorities must have the first claim on resources of the country.

A portion of the summit was live-streamed on social media, sparking anger with users using the hashtag #HaridwarGenocidalMeet and #HaridwarHateAssembly to call out the far-right groups.

Muslims under Modi's rule

The Wire also shared photographs of the speakers with members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) warning, "the statements calling for ethnic cleansing and genocide are particularly alarming" given the speakers' connections with the BJP.

The controversial conclave of Hindutva chiefs comes more than a week after Indian PM Modi reportedly told a US-hosted "Democracy Summit" that the democratic spirit, including respect for rule of law and pluralistic ethos, is "ingrained in Indians".

Critics say Modi has failed to intervene and stop rising incidents of attacks on minorities, misuse of religion by Hindu hardliners, and intolerance against dissent in the country.

Since Modi came to power in 2014, Hindu mobs have lynched dozens of people — mainly Muslims and Dalit Hindus — suspected of illegally transporting cows or consuming beef.

(Biggest call for genocide came in India and yet the whole government, whole good hindus are silently watching it.These hate mongers are taking india towards a planned holocaust and still everyone is silent. Such a shame)

Hindu far-right groups have also targeted Muslims over "love jihad", the conspiracy theory that Muslims are luring Hindu women with the aim of conversion and eventually national domination.

Muslims were also accused of spreading Covid-19. In recent months, Hindu mobs have targeted Muslims praying on Fridays in northern India.

Another Hindu hacked to death in Bangla Daesh.

What we are witnessing is not grief, but selective outrage. Recent events have made one thing unmistakably clear, for Hindutva only India’s strategic interests matter. Human life becomes negotiable the moment it conflicts with those interests.

Within that framework, genocide, mass killing, or civilian deaths are treated as irrelevant, or at best, unfortunate side effects, so long as the outcome serves the state’s objectives.

That is why the sudden display of sorrow over loss of life rings hollow. It is not merely hypocrisy, it directly contradicts the very logic Hindutva defenders themselves openly endorse. When human life is dismissed in one context and mourned in another, the inconsistency exposes the performance for what it is, political convenience, not moral principle.

Stop shedding crocodile tears.

‘No part of the body without injuries’: Doctor on migrant worker killed by mob in Kerala

Falsely accused of theft, a 40-year-old migrant worker from Chhattisgarh was beaten to death by a mob in Kerala’s Walayar. He is survived by his wife and two school-going children.

Ram Narayan Baghel left his home in Karhi village of Chhattisgarh a few days ago, travelling with a neighbour to Kerala in search of work. When he failed to find a suitable job, he told his family that he would return home soon.

Instead, on December 18, his family received a phone call from the Kerala police asking them to reach Palakkad immediately. They were only told that Ram Narayan was at the police station. His death was not mentioned.

On December 17, a group of local residents in the Attappallam area had detained and assaulted Ram Narayan, falsely accusing him of theft. Police later said that although he was intoxicated, there was no evidence that he had stolen anything.

A day later, an autopsy report revealed the extent of the violence he had faced. The post-mortem confirmed that Ram Narayan, 40, was brutally beaten in a mob attack at Walayar. He had more than 80 injuries across his body, including severe wounds to his head. Doctors noted extensive internal bleeding and concluded that he died due to assault and blood loss from head injuries.

Describing the injuries, Dr Hithesh Shankar, who conducted the post-mortem, told the media, “There is no part of the body without injuries.” He said the assault was “cruel” and carried out “from different sides,” adding that it was clearly “a mob attack” and that the victim was “beaten like an animal.”

With the cause of death now confirmed, police are preparing to add murder charges against the accused. Five men were arrested on December 18, Thursday in connection with the case.

The State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and ordered an inquiry. It has directed the Palakkad district police chief to submit a detailed report within three weeks.

Ram Narayan’s cousin Sashikanth Baghel said the family was kept in the dark about his death. “He came to Kerala four days ago looking for work,” he told TNM. “He did not get any job here and was planning to return home.” Sashikanth said Ram Narayan worked as a construction labourer in his village.

“I came here after getting a call from the police saying Ram Narayan was at the station and that I should reach immediately,” he said. “They did not inform us that he had died.” He added that Ram Narayan’s wife Lalitha and other relatives were travelling to Kerala. “He has two sons, aged eight and ten. Both are school-going,” he said.

Jabbar, a social activist involved in the case, alleged that the police initially tried to send the body back without a proper investigation. “The family needs proper compensation,” he told TNM. “Some arrests were made, but no clear details were given. The police even questioned us about why we were involved in the case.”

He also said that Ram Narayan was targeted with communal and xenophobic slurs. “He was beaten after being accused of being a Bangladeshi infiltrator,” Jabbar alleged. “This is a mob lynching with elements of hate crime and brutal violence. Now they say it was about theft, but that was not the real reason.”

Walayar police have registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The five arrested accused have been identified as Murali, Prasad, Anu, Bipin and Anandan, all residents of Attappallam village. Police have confirmed to TNM that Ram doesn’t have any criminal record.
