Is it time that the ICC tested Jasprit Bumrah’s action?

Everyone always talks about the quirkiness of Bumrahs action but due to the angles of cameras and the point of release,its been difficult to make any substantiated allegations-that was until today. As I watched his action from front on,it was so blatant that it made wonder if its something new or has it always been part of his action. If its hyperextension, then how come nobody has ever mentioned it, never mind discussed in any depth. Make up your own minds.

Don't want to jump to conclusions, but it's only fair that he's tested similar to Murali, Ajmal, Hafeez, Akhtar, and many more. Personally speaking he seems fine

OP has a valid point.

Personally, I think his action is clean. It looks weird but it is clean. That said, India does have a rich history of not testing Harbhajan, Ashwin etc.

Bumrah action is fine. If Bumrah was Pakistani this thread wouldn't exist.

No, it's not.

Ajmal was tested, Hafeez was tested. That fat double-chinned WI spinner was tested. Ashwin was never tested.

Bruh, I actually watched a considerable amount of test cricket to form an opinion.

If he was Pakistani, Indians would be saying the same things about chucking and Pakistanis would be trying to defend themselves saying we’re always targeted.

I disagree on both sides - just check everyone if there is doubt. Not fair to single certain cricketers out and not others just based on nationality. Impartially speaking, Bumrah should be checked. What’s the harm? If he’s clean (like I believe he is) then nothing to worry about.

Hafeez picks and chooses when he chucks, Ajmal had the test and was found to be chucking.

India got rid of Ojha when they found out he was chucking. BCCI are on the case of chuckers. If Ashwin was a chucker, they would have exposed him.

They can check and he will be fine . If he was Pakistani or from another country, the thread wouldn't have been made.

Don’t see what that has to do with anything, but I will still indulge the question - if he was Pakistani one of our resident Indians would have made this thread, or threads would be made on Indian forums. But that’s not really a debate relevant to this.

Like you said, they can (and should) check and he will be fine.

They got rid of Ojha cuz he was trash. He wasn't a long term option anyways.

There were jealous Indians on this forum calling Harris Rauf a chucker when he was doing well in Australia.

Some were calling Hasnain a chucker some days ago. All of them should be checked. Don’t like the Pakistan vs India brought into this.
 
I have only seen him bowl against Pakistan and his action is clean. That said, the reason why batsmen find him quicker than he appears is the hyperextension in his elbow joint and it has always been noticeable.

Even Bhuvi has hyperextension to a smaller degree in his bowling action.
 
his actions clean, its ugly, but clean, just google bumrah slow mo on youtube, loads of videos where u can see his hyper extension.

well done to india tho, at least they widened their net of hyper extending "quicks" beyond RP 78mph Singh.
 
Wasim and Mani should raise this and PCB can file another suit. As they always do, they will win surely win.

Jokes apart, I can understand the frustration of fans after Zim loss.. but why bring anyone down.
From Michael Holding(whom ppers admire so much) to Nasser Hussain, no one has raised this.

OP must have some special eye, which these cricketers cannot seem to catch.

Look it should be same rule for everyone and if he is clean will be tested and cleared

It's definitely hyperextension.

The average human can't bend their elbow back like Bumrah even when chucking. It's just not possible.

Ashwin on the other hand is a chucker and has been allowed to get away with it for too long.

Well, a test would shut everyone up who are saying his action is not clean (I personally think it is). That being said, what is stopping ICC from testing him?
 
No international indian bowler chucks atm.
Harbhajan and Ojha did in the past.
And there is no need to undermine Bumrah. He is a fantastic bowler; the best in the world and we should appreciate his God given ability.
 
He’s not a chucker. In fact I am one of Bumrah’s biggest fans. To people talking about undermining a great bowler, I agree. Bumrah doesn’t deserve it. But ICC needs to maintain a blanket policy. If it can test a GOAT of the game in Murali, it should test anyone and everyone else with an odd arm action. Otherwise, the current pick and choose policy is very fishy.
 
I don't think you can call that chucking. It's hyper-extension. Shoaib was accused of the same thing in 2006 by Greg Chappell but it was conclusively proven with the help of cameras that it was hyper-extension.

True. Well they should test him but I feel like bumrah has too much leverage here. Desi mentality is too sentimental and they will take this as an insult which it probably is but people don't look at it that way.

Shoaib never chucked I agree.

It's hyper-extension. He has an ugly action but its clean.

ICC can test it but then who has guts to report it and make a fool of themselves at the very first place.

You're right, but time and money are lost during testing.

If an ICC official looks at Bumrah's action (visually) they'll know it's just hyperextension.

In fact, Bumrah's is easy to tell cause he locks that elbow right before jumping and uses it like a slingshot. It's one of the most effective uses of hyperextension I've seen.
 
How on earth can a fast bowler with a high arm action even chuck? :))

I mean it's just basic cricketing common sense. Too much to ask? ;)
 
His action is clean and he will not be “checked” because Pakistani fans are crying about it.

Bowlers are reported by the umpires and if the umpires don’t see anything wrong with his action then it is the end of the story.
 
Why should he be tested? Has umpires or commentators or experts raised a doubt?

Like always, Pakistani fans want players to be tested based on their desires.

When Ajmal was banned in 2014, I still remember a popular conspiracy theory that Narine will not be tested because he is an IPL star, but few weeks later, Narine was reported as well and that umpire did not get killed by KKR fans.

The difference between us and India is that BCCI takes care of chuckers internally. If Bumrah was a chucker he would never have been picked by BCCI and if his action deteriorated in international cricket, he would have been dropped.

Hence the situation of umpires reporting Indian bowlers doesn’t arise.

As far as Ashwin is concerned, the only time he chucked was in 2014 when he was rightfully protesting against Ajmal and Narine who were getting away with blatant chucking. Apart from that, his action has been very clean.

The guy had a 10-fer in his last Test match! For almost 2-3 years, he was in the top 10 bowling rankings. Was dropped the moment chuckers clean up drive began
 
Starc Chuck's 145 plus balls easily.
Anyway if they test bumrah a guy with high arm clean action then the person responsible will get cremated for slandering bumrah's reputation.

I'm not sure why some fans- mostly Pakistani it seems- don't understand this precise point.

Ashwin has never chucked- there was one time when he wore long sleeves and used a bent arm action- but that was to PROTEST and HIGHLIGHT Narine/ Ajmal's actions and the unfair advantage they had.

Pakistani fans have a gripe against Bhajji - fair play.

Ojha- fair play.

But Ashwin? Move on please,

Ajmal was literally throwing the ball by 2013-14 and Narine was a pretty big chucker as well. Both were rightfully reported.

Harbhajan’s doosra was suspicious but he barely played after ICC got serious about chucking.

Ashwin didn’t chuck after 2014. Besides, even if we assume that Indian bowlers will never be reported, maybe we should stop being bitter and instead of crying about it, we should admire and learn how India have put themselves in a position of power and try to replicate it.

Ajmal got cleared when he decided to bowl with a clean action but he was terrible with it and got discarded after one series.

Ajmal also proved to be a fat liar because he had previously claimed that it was not physically possibly him for to bowl within the ICC prescribed limits because of a childhood accident.

There is no hypocrisy and no spade to call here. Indian bowlers will be reported if they chuck; they will not be reported because of angry Pakistani fans.
 
Why stop with Bumrah, each and every bowler who can be potentially used in a cricket match should be tested. All the deliveries that they can potentially bowl should be tested.

Any bowler who in current times bowling with half sleeve is because he and theboard he represents are confident he isnt chucking. Period. Which doesnt necessarily mean he chucks if he wears full sleeve. Harbhajan and Ojha did chuck but Harbhajan belonged to an earlier era where there was more leeway for chucking. Ojha came back remodelled and ineffective.

Ashwin doesn't, he did once a few years back bowl with full sleeve and with a cheeky comment saying this affords him to use his elbow a bit more :P. That was the straw that broke the camel's back and got ICC to test Ajmal and Narine and for the current laws to be in place.

ICC tested Shoaib Malik that was in early 2000s. Don't rewrite history people. There was cricket way way before BCCI earned some quick $s.

Only reason Ashwin and Harbhajan never were tested was because of BCCI $.

Bhajji did get reported and was cleared in 2005. Now don't say BCCI did not have $$ in 2005.

Ashwin publicly stated he will try bowling with a bent arm, did so in 2014 Asia Cup copying Marine's action, triggered a debate on chucking. ICC acted soon on it and Ashwin went back to his original bowling style.
 
ICC relaxed it's chucking rules in 2005 when a study showed every fast bowler was chucking. Rules till then we're 5 degrees for spinners and 10 degrees for pacers. They had to go back to tighter rules in 2014 after the Ashwin episode.
 
Harbhajan was reported and tested in 2005.

Papers should read about Mohnish Parmar, the Murali clone. He was creating havoc in the FC circuit, even played for India A, was seen as long term replacement for Bhajji but once BCCI tightened it's chucking rules in 2008-09, he was called for chucking in. Ranji match in 2008, underwent action correction session under then NCA Head Dav Whatmore and did not play a FC game or in IPL afterwards

BCCO has banned a few bowlers at domestic level.

Mohnish Parmar, Swarupam Purkayastha are two names I am aware of, who have been banned.

Parmar had 92 wickets @18, I can't recall any of our sounder averaging 18 in FC.

Purkayastha wreaked havoc in 2014-15 season helping his team Assam get promotion. He was called for chucking the next season. He played a few Games as batsman and then hot dropped.
 
Did anybody else (during the match - as I didn't see the full match) complained on Bumrah's action? OR is it specifically picked up in PP...? Anyways now been addressed in PP, perhaps it's going to reach the authorities in some ways (considering this forum's popularity!)
 
1. You can't determine chucking from still images. A bent arm in a picture is not evidence of chucking.

2. "Test him anyway". The testing system isn't designed ro satisfy online conspiracy theorists. Why drag someone through a testing process just for the sake of it.

Right... Pakistani fans fail to believe that Indian Cricket has moved ahead and become professional and wants to maintain International Standards! Pakistani fans want BCCI and Indian Cricket to remain in previous era (as Pakistani cricket still loves to live!). It is only after getting out of that shell and moving forward that Indian Cricket saw more success! In fact BCCI is hell not even interested in supporting any specific player/bowler? How much money they make through certain specific players? What that brings to the table? If Bumrah is found guilty and is discarded, so be it... They will find other alternatives and heck they have players from all across globe (including certain nation!!!!) who wants to participate in IPL.

Even if it is a case of scarcity of players (which is not the case anyhow!) not good enough to construct a strong National side to play for bilaterals & ICC tournaments, BCCI will still make money with IPL... That's how much they have moved forward! It is so amusing how Pakistani fans are still living in delusion and that Indians (unlike Pakistanis) worry on petty things!

But having said that, Indian fans & BCCI is definitely concerned & they will never support such false claims (allegations against their best players like Bumrah), will never give up to appease the sadistic desires of certain fans! If this allegation has any base & gets inspected at top level, its fine! But if it doesn't, then this allegation becomes a joke & mockery!

The reason i put both images on here- one before and one after was to show that he went from straight to very bent. Do you agree that the arm is bent at the point of delivery to somewhere in the degree of 30+?

I wish that there is a way every time a bowler "chucks" it is found out immediately (like in the case of no-balls or LBWs) or in the post-match, without the umpires having to report the bowlers and fans to speculate. I wonder if there can be a technological solution to such a thing (like DRS).
 
Every bowler should get tested just to make sure theirs nothing wrong with that I think it should be standard

But if your a player from India you can get away with anything since ICC is 100 percent Indian controlled

So even if Bumrah is chucking he won't get tested

Had he been a Pakistani player they would have tested him right away

My brother, Ajmal got away with chucking for a long long time. It was blatant.

Hafeez has been banned for chucking more times than any other cricket but shamelessly he keeps getting selected.

We shouldn't throw stones at India over this. We have had got away with chucking quite a bit.
 
If Indian bowlers get reported and pass the test, the same people will then argue that the results were forged because of BCCI power.

These people will only be satisfied if Indian bowlers are banned altogether.

If the results are published then there will be nothing to worry about.

Think bigger problem is some people are worried about egg on their face in case he is found to be chucking. No wonder there is such an outrage.

Anyone speaking about an Indian bowler is not jealous by default.

Its a simple question that is being asked and the answer to that is a test to confirm.

If ALL international bowlers should be tested - then so be it.

Ashwin has one of the cleanest bowling actions ever. What are you even talking about?

Of course it is jealousy if there is absolutely no basis to the claim. And no, bowlers should not be tested just because randos on the internet don't like him

What next, check every players account and house for match fixing the next time someone creates rumors about them?
