Is Lahore the food capital of the Earth?

Dude I'm a Houston native and HELL no, Htown's food scene is nothing compared NYC.

Me too. I mean , I am not claiming that Houston is the food capital of the world but neither is NY . Houston has a pretty good food scene, its super underrated . The kind of diversity is just halal food is second to none . Then their is Tex Mex , BBQ, smoked meats. We holding it down in H-town.

Thanks. There are many outlets with niche themes in London, you get a variety of food which isnt seen in most places around the world.

Which is the best Mexican place in London?

I would say Leicester Square Kitchen.

It is a Mexican and Peruvian restaurant. The menu is split between both cuisines and you'll find the chicken is Halal, even though it isn't openly advertised. Personally I recommend the Mexican Chicken dishes and the Peruvian Seafood.

Peruvian is spicier than Mexican.

Are Tipu Burger and Tipu Burger & Broast the same? If not, which one is better?

I am going to Karachi on Monday for 2 days. I will go to Javed nihari and will probably try Tipu as well. Please suggest the best biryani in Karachi as well.

The best Biryani in Karachi is my cook’s. I only wish you could try it. The OG Tipu Burger is the one on boat basin. A lot of apparently amazing new places have opened up over the past 4 years that I’ve spent most of my time in Canada. Some of the ones I tried during my visits were Mad Roosta, Easy donuts and 2 guys 1 grill (donut burgers) All of which were amazing

But since you only have 2 days, places I’d recommend you eat from are Tipu burger, Hot N Spicy, Javaid Nihari, mazaidar Haleem, Nawab in zamzama and Baloch Ice cream. If you can you should eat from all of these places. I’d do this

Eat breakfast from espresso on day 1. Get mazaidar Haleem for lunch. Then for dinner go to boat basin and eat tipu burger and ice cream from Baloch ice cream which is right next to it. The next day eat halwa puri chaney for breakfast from any well known place, then eat javaid nihari for lunch and finally go to Nawab for dinner (their chicken makhni and butter naan are my favourite food in the world). You could also go to BBQ tonite which is always a safe bet and the most popular restaurant in the city. Bit too crowded for me though. Also try to fit in a paratha roll from Hot N Spicy somewhere in there. Truly exquisite

Sound good, I will give the Peruvian a try as I've never really tasted the food.

I sound like a gluttonous pig from the post above but I maintain a very healthy diet while I’m in Canada and go all out for the 2/3 months that I visit Pakistan in the summer. Think of it like a cheat season instead of a cheat day

The food that you get in Karachi isn’t basically available (or much liked) else where in the country. May be thats because the main dishes like Briyani, Hallem, Nihari, Qorma and lesser known Do Piyaza, Achar gosht etc are brought over from India. Even the way you cook Daal, Qeema, Kebabs and Chaat are different in Karachi. Karachi has amalgamation of cuisines from various parts of India + Pakistan and most of Karachiites are foodies :)

I have travelled outside karachi back in 90s and forget Briyani it was even difficult to find Paan and Shahi Supari in Lahore and Islamabad. May be things are a bit different now a days.

Thanks for the elaborate post. I have been to BBQ Tonight multiple times in Islamabad so I would prefer to try something new.

BBQ Tonite is burger and elite class version of desi food. If you want proper kababs then one has to go to Ghaffar in Delhi colony. Slog

Have never been to Karachi, but I would love to go and try it’s food!

Lahore has some great places too.

I feel like BBQ tonite gets too much hate because of how popular it is. It’s not bad at all. Their qeema naan is pretty damn amazing

It might be the food capital of India, but you cannot be the food capital of the world with vada pav, pav bhaji, bhelpuri, paneer tikka etc.

In addition, you cannot find a proper steak in Mumbai because of beef ban. In my opinion, for any city to be the true food capital of the world, it has to offer every major cuisine and all types of meat including beef and pork.
Beef ban is only to harass poor Muslims. It is available even in Gujarat. Mumbai has more to offer than the usual vada pav and pav bhaji. Remember, it was financial capital of British India for centuries and hence have people all over the Raj and their food. I have had good mutton and Beef in Mumbai and they have a strong Catholic community who cook plenty of good pork.

You can see some of the beef and mutton dishes in Mumbai in the following videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlvqzjDggK0

And following is a Catholic pork recipe (Mangalore, Goan and Mumbai Catholics all share same culture influenced by Portugese):

However, if we go by variety of meat, no city in Indian subcontinent can beat Kochi in Kerala where we eat everything: Beef,Mutton,Pork,Duck,Quail,Rabbit,Crab, thousands of varieties of fish and even frog legs.:yuvi

No indian city can be the food capital of the world simply because of the limited availability of meat in general and also the fact that Indian cooks just don’t cook meats (asides from chicken) right.

Though I guess some Indian city might be the best for veggie food but even that I doubt since Indian veggie food doesn’t really cater a whole lot to western taste buds as much.

That's some massive generalization based on the crappy 'Indian' restaurant food in West. Mumbai itself has good variety of meat in beef, pork and mutton. Then you have North East and Kerala where you get to eat plenty of varieties of meat.

Not according to Moeen Ali!!!

I have to agree. I grew up on lahore food. However karachi is much better. Both are great though

Karachi is the food capital of Earth and the solar system.

Every cuisine known to man in so many different variations it’s insane. A kebab roll place with 50 different types of rolls. Once i witnessed that, I knew I was in ATG territory. This is just one example of ONE DISH of one cuisine. There’s many many more.
