If anyone has been following the NBA Finals series, the guy has singlehandedly (to a large extent) given the unfancied and injury ravaged Cavs a 2-1 lead over the star studded Golden State Warriors

It really is some achievement to do it with having your 2nd and 3rd best players in Irving and Love out injured.

A lot of experts are saying that if Cavs manage to win the NBA Ring this year he has legitimate claim to be the best of all time.

Do you agree?

i think there is a strong case

Jordan fans only point out to his 6 rings to end debates which is a very poor argument imo

How so? Statistically, Jordan literally achieved everything there was to be achieved. Athletes are judged by their performances at the highest stage and no one performed better than Jordan. He didn't just win 6 rings, he won 6 out of 6 - undefeated at the highest stage of basketball.

Lebron's already lost 3 times and if he loses this year, it'll pretty much end the debate.

Gotta give it to LBJ, carrying his team with undeterred determination. It's a hard one for me cuz I like Steph Curry as well..

Not a NBA fan used to remain updated 8-10 years ago when i watched Sports Centre on ESPN
Jordan of Chicago Bulls, Duncan of SA Spurs and O'Neal of LA Lakers were top players then

Only one MJ but if he wins the title this year, I would put him above Kobe for sure.

Jordan first.

He's comfortably the best player after the Jordan era ahead of Shaq.

LeBron James will not be in the NBA play-offs for the first time since 2005.

The Los Angeles Lakers were mathematically eliminated from the play-off race following a 111-106 defeat by the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night.

James was not expected to immediately deliver a title after moving to the tougher Western Conference last year, but few predicted the Lakers struggling so badly they missed the play-offs for a sixth year in a row.

What has gone wrong in Los Angeles?

Christmas Day was the peak of the Lakers' season and the moment it started to fall apart.

They thrashed defending champions the Golden State Warriors 127-101 but small forward James left the game with a strained left groin.

The Lakers had 20 wins, 14 defeats and sat fourth in the Western Conference, with James, 34, saying he would be back soon.

Instead he missed the next 17 games - the longest absence of his career - during which the Lakers won only six times and slipped out of the play-off spots, never returning.

The injuries have kept coming - the defence has crumbled without point guard Lonzo Ball, out since January with an ankle sprain.

And earlier this month, small forward Brandon Ingram - on the best run of his career after a slow start to the year - was ruled out for the season, needing surgery to remove a blood clot in his right arm.

A puzzling roster
Lakers forwards Michael Beasley and Javale McGee
Summer signings Michael Beasley (left) and Javale McGee failed to impress, with the former traded away in February
James has had a superb season, averaging more than 27 points, eight assists and eight rebounds per game, but part of the roster is a bizarre bunch of incompatible characters.

During his run of eight straight NBA finals with the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers, James thrived playing with gifted three-point shooters - this year the Lakers are second bottom in three-point percentage.

Instead of recruiting shooters, the Lakers, although likely with James' input, opted for veterans Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson, Javale McGee and Michael Beasley.

Those four are some of the league's most eccentric personalities - Stephenson once tried to annoy James by blowing in his ear - and have been largely ineffective.

Players the Lakers recently let go are starring elsewhere - Milwaukee Bucks centre Brook Lopez is hitting threes, New Orleans Pelicans power forward Julius Randle is averaging 20 points per game and Brooklyn Nets point guard D'Angelo Russell has become an all-star.

Brandon Ingram was taunted by Indiana Pacers fans after the Lakers failed to trade him for Anthony Davis
If you need to keep morale high for a scrap to stay in play-off contention, do not let four key players find out you tried to trade them away.

In January, Pelicans centre Anthony Davis - one of the best players in the NBA - requested a trade, widely seen as an attempt to move to the Lakers, given Davis and James share an agent.

The Lakers reportedly put prospects Ball, Ingram, Josh Hart and Kyle Kuzma in offers but the Pelicans rejected every bid until the trade deadline on 7 February.

The young Lakers avoided being traded, but the possibility they will be this summer remains, as Ingram was reminded by opposition fans chanting, "LeBron's gonna trade you".

With the Lakers still faltering after his return, James said he had "activated" play-off mode to try and reach the post-season.

He must have missed the on switch. The Lakers won only two of their next eight games and decided to scale back James' minutes, effectively confirming they had given up.

The most chastening moment of James' season was still to come.

Going for the game winner at the New York Knicks, James was blocked by journeyman Mario Hezonja as the Lakers fell to a 124-123 defeat against the league's worst team.

So, what next?
Missing the play-offs at least gives James more time to film Space Jam 2 this summer but how can he and the Lakers become contenders from here?

James' contract runs for three more seasons and the offbeat veterans were only signed to one-year deals, so the Lakers have salary cap space to pursue talented free agents.

Losing games could even be their best option now, because a worse record increases a team's chances of a higher pick in June's NBA draft.

They have trade assets and will go after Davis again, but a bright future is not certain.

Heavyweight free agents like Leonard, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have been more regularly linked with other teams, while this year's draft class is not considered overly strong beyond projected number one pick Zion Williamson.

Ball and Ingram should be back fit next season but their injury history might worry potential trade partners and the Lakers have to decide whether to fire coach Luke Walton.

Hanging over all this is how long James, who turns 35 in December, can stay at least near the peak of his powers. It is no given the King will win a fourth ring in LA.

Everyone knows he went to LA to get a jumpstart on his career in Hollywood. He has been very busy of the court.

He doesn't seem interested in the ball game at all. Sad to see someone with so much talent not being used properly.

I think he will be in space jam 2.

Top 5? Absolutely.

The Greatest? Nope.

You’ve got Hakeem, Jordan, and Magic ahead of him.

Nobody puts Hakeem and Magic over LeBron. That's wrong.

Most people got at least MJ and Kareem over him, but I also think Wilt and maybe Kobe and Shaq were better players individually.

His kids are in his teens now.... Till when you expect him to play?

A great player realized he is nearing the end of his playing days and very smartly thought of what to do next..... Still people have a problem.

Tho LeBron is definitely a better overall player but if I were to rank just on skill and nothing else then I'll have Kobe ahead of him.

Its up to him when to retire but as a fan I would like to see him continue to show his skills on the court because he certainly has a lot more to offer. The main point was he doesn't seem motivated or interested in playing for the Lakers.

Well he's 34, his kids being teens only means he became a father when he was very young. He can play until he's 39-40 like most players of his caliber have (Duncan, Kobe, Jordan, Dirk etc).

He's definitely interested and motivated it's just that he can no longer carry a team on his own and the talented Lakers young core aren't developing fast enough with his age. The thing is LeBron was a beast in the east, the weaker of both conferences and now he's in the tougher conference and is getting washed, also LeBron doesn't know how to play in a system unlike the warriors and lakers or spurs do, he doesn't listen to coaches and all he does is drive to the basket or chuck the ball to somebody to shoot or go for a layup, he can't function in a system which is why he has less rings then he should have with his talent.

Good points.

I also see the coach resting him a fair bit, so not sure if their relationship is good.

On present form he not in the top 5 players in the NBA imo.

Yeah I don't think he respects Luke Walton cause he sees him as a peer, fun fact Luke was also part of the 2003 draft class like LeBron so they're around the same age. LeBron is still putting crazy number so he's def top 5 all time but yeah this season there are better and younger players than him.

MJ is still the goat because people still remember him. I don't think Lebron James will be remembered 20 years after his retirement, although he is a freak athlete, but I don't think he has that killer instinct that Kobe and Jordan had.

Jordan was and still is the GOAT. Hollywood James is declining before our eyes without reaching the same peaks that Jordan did.

Well this about confirms Luke will be fired this off season.

To answer the OP, LBJ is the greatest basketball player ever. The stiff competition along with taking some trash teams to the finals, in my eyes he’s definitely the goat.

It’s unbelievable that he hasn’t had a serious injury his whole career. He’s just from a different planet.

MJ is still the goat because people still remember him. I don't think Lebron James will be remembered 20 years after his retirement, although he is a freak athlete, but I don't think he has that killer instinct that Kobe and Jordan had.

Lebron won’t be remembered in 20 years? LOL

He sold out high school games and had everyone glued to their TV since his first day in the NBA. The killer instinct is also a false claim. Just because he isn’t arrogant like Kobe doesn’t mean he doesn’t have that characteristic about him.

If I’m starting a team tomorrow, I wouldn't take anyone over Lebron.

Not really dude, a lot of younger millenials (mid 90s) and gen Z kids don't remember Jordan, he was past his prime by '98 and retired for good in 03 so most of us never saw him play him live, LeBron on the other hand will be remembered by the current generation, in fact Lonzo even said he's his favorite player the "Jordan of this generation". He right.

The fact that Jordan brand is still relevant says a lot. I highly doubt people will buy Lebron's 20 years after he retires. Don't get me wrong, Lebron is very good, but 6 > 3. I know GSW is one of the main reasons but still... he went to 9 finals and lost to old teams like Dallas and San Antonio.

yeah also I don't get people blamin gsw from stopping lebron from winning titles, he created a superteam in miami and no way he would've won 2 rings there without wade, allen, and bosh.

LeBron is an ATG player, but I freaking hate the Lakers man.

As for MJ, I never saw him play.

No, there is only one Jordan. You go anywhere in the world people will know who he is. The same cant be said for Lebron. Jordan retired 20 years ago yet the #1 seller for basketball shoes our the Jordans. Lebron will never come close to him.

Anyone who says Lebron is better, usually never saw Jordan play or dont realize the impact he had on the game.

LeBron James says his achievements in basketball will not define his legacy as he closes in on a fourth NBA title.

James' Los Angeles Lakers lead Miami Heat 3-1 in the best-of-seven NBA final going into Friday's fifth game, which takes place at 02:00 BST on Saturday.

A win would add to the two titles he won with Miami Heat and his single success with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"The story will be told how it's supposed to be told and written how it's meant to be written," said James.

The 35-year-old added: "I don't live my life thinking about legacy.

"What I do off the floor means more to me than what I do on the floor."

for my generation hell yeah

but Allen Iverson is the sexiest player of all time

He breaks ankles for fun

LA Lakers clinch NBA Title - LeBron James earns 4th finals MVP (behind only Jordan)

Well done to Lakers and LeBron for a perfect Game 6 after a few hiccups along the way in Game 3 and Game 5.

LeBron thoroughly deserves his 4th ring

Lebron is easily top 5 player all time. Even after 17 seasons in the league if you put him on any team they will be competing for a championship. I never liked him after he left Cleveland to join miami but I respect him as a player. The stuff he has done is unrivalled tbh.

I don't know or care where LeBron would be rayed overall but he's definitely and by far the greatest post Jordan era. The way he leads the team, make everyone better around him, takes his team to playoffs and finals every year. It's remarkable of him as a leader/player.

Former US President Barack Obama led the tributes to LeBron James a day after he claimed his fourth NBA title.

The 16-time All-Star became the first NBA player in history to claim the Finals MVP accolade with three different franchises on Sunday, after the Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 4-2 in the best-of-seven series.

LBJ has achieved finals average of 25 Pts + 10 Rbs + 5 assists a total 6 times now in his career.

No one else has even done it twice.

MJ was magical. He was an alien among men. For the showman that he was, all those who saw him play would always hold him in their highest regard.

That's that and then there is LBJ, the all round bully who's dominated NBA for 17 years and mostly with squads that were nowhere near what MJ played with. That's the one factor that puts into perspective LBJ's magnitude of achievements. People always say MJ is 6/6 in finals but what about the conference play offs he lost. LBJ carried his respective teams on his back literally to finals 10 times. Forget players, only 3 NBA teams have ever had more finals appearances than LBJ :))

In Scotty and Dennis Rodman, MJ played with two freak talents. LBJ played with an old Dwayne Wade, Kyrie and now AD has his top team mates. Nothing like the dynasty Bulls created.

As great a showman MJ was, he would not have beaten Warriors in 2016 with LBJs Cavs.

Winning championships with 3 different teams
Playing in his old age and still winning chpionships
Lbj is the goat of the modern era

Kareem, celtics, magic, bird were in the dark/crack era of NBA I don't really repect that era that much tbh

LeBron James is on the verge of signing a two-year contract extension with the LA Lakers - reportedly worth $85m.

https://www.skysports.com/nba/news/36244/12230225/lebron-tells-zlatan-i-wont-shut-up

LeBron James has replied to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's 'stick to sport' sentiment by insisting he will never stop using his platform to speak out about political issues such as racial inequality.

Speaking earlier this week, AC Milan striker Ibrahimovic criticised James for his involvement in matters beyond his profession, with the Los Angeles Lakers star having been a prominent voice in the battle against police brutality and racial oppression across America and around the world.

"Do what you're good at. Do the category that you do," he told UEFA and Discovery+ in Sweden. "I play football because I'm the best at playing football, I'm no politician. If I'd been a politician, I would be doing politics.

"This is the first mistake famous people do when they become famous and come into a certain status. For me, it is better to avoid certain topics and do what you're best at doing, because otherwise it doesn't look good."

James was a well-known critic of former US President Donald Trump and in June assisted in the formation of "More Than a Vote", designed to tackle voter suppression in the Black community.

In 2018 the four-time NBA champion was told to 'shut up and dribble' by Fox News host Laura Ingraham in the wake of comments he made regarding President Trump.

As he did back then, James has vowed to continue using his influence to help create change.

"At the end of the day, I will never shut up about things that are wrong," he said in response to Ibrahimovic's comments. "I preach about my people and I preach about equality, social justice, racism, voter suppression, things that go on in our community because I was a part of my community at one point and saw the things that were going on, and I know what's still going on because I have a group of 300-plus kids at my school that are going through the same thing and they need a voice.

"I'm their voice and I use my platform to continue to shed light on everything that might be going on, not only in my community but in this country and around the world.

"There's no way I would ever just stick to sports, because I understand this platform and how powerful my voice is. He can just ask Renee Montgomery if I would have shut up and just dribbled, just seeing that beautiful Black woman today be part of a group - she's part of the ownership group with the Atlanta Dream."

James continued by addressing complaints made by Ibrahimovic in 2018 regarding his treatment by the media, which the Swede referred to as "undercover racism".

"It's funny he'd say that because I believe in 2018 he was the same guy who said, when he was back in Sweden, talking about the same things, because his last name wasn't a certain last name, that he felt like it was racism going on when he was out on the pitch," said James.

"Right? He did say that, right? I thought he said that. I speak from a very educated mind. I'm kinda the wrong guy to actually go at, because I do my homework."

LeBron James: NBA star's voting rights group starts new campaign

US basketball star LeBron James' voting rights group has launched a campaign against voter suppression as some states consider new restrictions.

The Protect Our Power campaign aims to stop such policies, which would disproportionately affect black voters.

Republican legislatures have been advancing laws to limit where and when people can vote amid unproven allegations of election fraud in 2020.

Georgia, a key state in the election, is at the centre of the rights battle.

Other rights organisations have joined up with James' More Than A Vote group to focus on the issue in Georgia.

In a video announcing the new campaign on Friday, James says: "This isn't the time to put your feet up."

"Posting hashtags and black squares", he says, is not enough. "It's always been more than a vote. It's a fight and it's just getting started."

Speaking over images of the January Capitol siege, he says: "They saw what we're capable of, and they fear it".

NBA: LeBron James guides LA Lakers to play-offs with play-in win over Golden State Warriors

LeBron James made a game-winning shot with 58 seconds remaining to ensure the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors in the new 'play-ins' format and secured a place in the Western Conference play-offs.

James shot a 34-foot three-pointer to claim a 103-100 win, despite struggling to see after a foul to the face.

LA face the second-seeded Phoenix Suns in the play-offs on Sunday.

"I was literally seeing three rims out there," James, 36, said.

James received treatment after he appeared to be poked in the eye by Draymond Green with two minutes left in the game.

He was given eye drops but admitted he was unable to focus on making the shot.

"I just shot at the middle rim and I was able to, with the grace from the man above, knock it down," he said.

His team-mate Anthony Davis joked afterwards that the Lakers "might need to poke LeBron in his eye a lot more to hit shots like that".

Stephen Curry scored 37 points but it was not enough for the Warriors, who must beat the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday to advance.

The Grizzles beat the San Antonio Spurs 100-96 in their play-ins game to set up the meeting. The winners will become the eighth seeds and play the top-seeded Utah Jazz in the first round of the play-offs. The losers are eliminated.

He is top 4, not as good as MJ who is the GOAT.

MJ
Lebron
Wilt
Kareem

These will be the top 4 IMO. Magic probably at 5. Bill russel at 6.

LeBron James has been fined $15,000 by the NBA for an obscene gesture during a game and warned about using profane language during a media interview.

LeBron James: NBA superstar on Forbes' billionaires list

Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James has become the first active NBA player to make Forbes' billionaires list.

Forbes estimates James, 37, is the world's second highest-paid athlete behind footballer Lionel Messi.

The four-time NBA champion, who has been the league's most valuable player four times, earned $121.2m (£96.5m) over the last year, with $80m (£63.7m) of it coming off the court.

The American business magazine puts James' net worth at $1bn (£796.4m).

His earnings over the last 12 months beat his own record of $96.5m (£76.8m) for an NBA player that he set last year.

The 18-time all-star player has earned more than $385m (£306.4m) in salary from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Lakers - but most of his income has come from endorsements and business ventures.

For example, his stake in SpringHill - the television and movie production company James built with business partner Maverick Carter - is believed to be worth $300m (£238.8m).

Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan became a billionaire in 2014, but that was 11 years after the six-time NBA champion finished playing.

In March, James moved second in the NBA's list of all-time scorers and he currently has 37,062 points, behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387).

Only Jordan (six), Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Russell (both five) have been named the NBA's MVP on more occasions than James.

yes, the best in post MJ era.

LeBron James' son, Bronny, cleared for basketball return after cardiac arrest

Bronny James, the son of basketball great LeBron James, has been cleared to return to basketball four months after suffering cardiac arrest.

The 19-year-old was training with his University of Southern California (USC) team when the incident happened.

James was found to have a congenital heart defect.

The James family said in a statement: "Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after."

The statement added: "The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family and fans for their love and support. Fight on!"

James collapsed in a training session in July and spent three days in hospital before the defect, which he has had since birth, was revealed in August.

A four-time NBA champion and four-time Most Valuable Player, LeBron James, 38, has previously said he wants to extend his career long enough to be able to play in the NBA with Bronny.

The eldest of three siblings, Bronny has a younger brother, Bryce Maximus, 16, and sister, Zhuri, nine.

After an impressive basketball career at the Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles, he rejected a number of approaches from other universities to commit to USC in May.

LeBron James: LA Lakers star calls for change to United States' 'ridiculous' gun laws

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James says the lack of action on gun control in the United States is "ridiculous", after Wednesday's fatal shooting at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.

Three people were killed and another is in a critical condition in hospital.

"The ability to get a gun, the ability to do these things over and over and there has been no change," said James, at a news conference in the city.

"It makes no sense that we continue to lose innocent lives."

James passed his condolences to family and friends of the victims before Thursday's semi-final against the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA's In-Season tournament, which is taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Police confirmed details of the shooting that occurred at the Las Vegas campus of the University of Nevada (UNLV) on Wednesday morning.

Officers struck and killed the suspect, described as a white former college professor in his 60s, in a shootout. One other victim remains in a critical condition at a local hospital, police said in a statement.

James, 38, has often spoken out about matters of politics and social justice in the US.

The 19-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion added: "It just goes back to what I said before about guns in America. We don't want to keep dealing with this same story and same conversation every single time it happens. It just continues to happen.

"It makes no sense that we continue to lose innocent lives on campuses, in schools, at shopping markets, movie theatres. It's just ridiculous. The fact we haven't changed anything - it has actually become a lot easier to own a firearm. It's stupid."

The NBA is reportedly planning a moment of silence before Thursday's semi-finals, which will also see the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Indiana Pacers.

"The NBA family is heartbroken by today's senseless shooting at UNLV," the league said in a statement. "We extend our sincerest condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as the entire Las Vegas community."

Shooting incidents are keep on happening and it is good that people like LeBron are talking about the gun control that seems to be the need of the hour to stop such incidents.

Bronny James: LeBron James' son makes college debut after cardiac arrest

Bronny James, the son of basketball legend LeBron James, said he was "thankful for everything" as he made his college debut less than five months after collapsing with a cardiac arrest.

The 19-year-old came off the bench in the first half for the University of Southern California in their 84-79 defeat by Long Beach State.

James was found to have a congenital heart defect in July and was cleared to return to the sport in November.

"Proud of you kid," LeBron James said.

"Today you've given me more life."

The four-time NBA champion, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, added in a post on Instagram: "Can't even tell y'all how EMOTIONAL today was for me! I'm literally drained and all I can say is @bronny you're simply INCREDIBLE!!

"Damn the wins and loses that will occur. You've already won the ultimate goal/championship and that's LIFE!!!"

LeBron, 38, was courtside for the game alongside family members including his other children, son Bryce Maximus and daughter Zhuri.

They rose to their feet when James first scored with a second-half three-pointer. James had earlier received a standing ovation from the crowd on entering the game.

Bronny played for 16 minutes, scoring four points with three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.

"I just want to say I'm thankful for everything," he said afterwards, also thanking the medical staff that treated him, his family, coach Andy Enfield and his team-mates "during this hard time in my life".

James also received well wishes on social media including a message from three-time NBA champion Dwayne Wade, who wrote: "Watching Bronny walk out on that court gave me chills.

"Welcome back to the game you love, Bronny."

LeBron James scored 34 points to help the Los Angeles Lakers overcome a 21-point deficit in the final quarter to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 116-112.

The 39-year-old scored 19 of his points in that period to quieten the home fans who had seen the Clippers lead 98-77.

Anthony Davis also contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers.

Jordan and Kareem are above LBJ.

Older generation like Wilt, Bill Russel, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West etc played in an era where basketball wasn’t what it was in 80s/90s.

I believe 80s/90s was the toughest era and peak of basketball, now it’s just a shootout between two teams.

I’ll put Kobe as the 4th on Mount Rushmore, alongside MJ, Kareem and LBJ. But if we consider older era then there are a few guys who will top Kobe into top 4.

LeBron James' son Bronny drafted by dad's LA Lakers

Bronny James was picked in the second round of the NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers where he could play alongside his legendary father LeBron.

The 19-year-old was the 55th choice of the draft in New York on Thursday after weeks of speculation about which team he would end up on.

Four-time NBA champion LeBron, 39, is likely entering the final year of his career and could become a free agent this summer by declining his $51.4m (£40.6m) player option when the window opens at the end of June.

I will 'get through' doubters - Bronny James

Bronny James understands some people believe he was only drafted to the Los Angeles Lakers because of his legendary father LeBron, but says he will "get through" the negative talk.

The 19-year-old was the 55th choice of the draft in New York on Thursday after weeks of speculation about which team he would end up at.

No father-son pairing has played together in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

"For sure there's an amplified amount of pressure," James said on Tuesday before his first training session.

"I've already seen it on social media and the internet, talk about how I might not deserve an opportunity.

"But I've been dealing with stuff like this my whole life so it's nothing different. It's more amplified for sure, but I'll get through it."

James has completed his first year of college basketball with the University of Southern California Trojans, where he averaged 4.8 points and 2.1 assists per game.

His season was cut short because of a cardiac arrest and Lakers head coach JJ Redick believes he has huge potential to become an "excellent NBA player".

"His base level of feel, athleticism, point of attack, defending, shooting, passing - there's a lot to like about his game," Redick added.

"As we build out our player development program holistically, he's going to have a great opportunity to become an excellent NBA player."
