He has made a lot of statements on being ruthless and that he was not going to compromise on professionalism, basic fitness standards and meeting the team culture and that no player from now on will be playing in the squad on the basis of potential, talent, name alone and that mediocrity will also not be tolerated under the pretext of "We are Pakistani's, this is our culture, this is how things are done here".
I fully supported his decision and his tough love approach on Umar Akmal. But there is also evidence that he turns the other eye on his favorites. It is no secret that Imad Wasim was not 100% fit and was not meeting the basic fitness standards set in the team, it is clear that the captain Sarfaraz himself is not setting a good example for the rest of the squad as far as being a 100% fit is concerned.
Why is the team going off the standards set in place during the off season? I can visibly note that certain players playing in the NZ series are noticably out of shape vis a vis the last assignment they had vs Sri Lanka at the end of October. Now clearly the coaching staff cannot baby sit the players 24/7, at the end of the day the players have to be held accountable for what they do in their spare time and off season. I personally would have liked Arthur to do the same thing that he did with Umar Akmal with regards to these players i.e. dropped them and asked for fitter replacements immediately.
It's one thing to be a tough task master but it is contradictory to look the other way when it comes to your favorites.
Sohail Khan while granted he had severe fitness issues and late spell issues but the guy could swing the new ball and could have been a useful option in our ODI and T-20 team atleast. Imran Khan had decent stats and was doing his job in the limited chances he got, but because of Arthur's dislike for him, he is now out of the team.
Personally i don't think he should be completely allowed to destroy careers just like that, the captain and selectors need to reason with him on certain occasions. His decision to play 1 spinner cost us the Sri Lankan test series.
