How many times we have seen that other players of Belgium has worked hard and make it easy for Lukaku to score a goal and he still miss the chance? Is Lukaku the worst striker on this World Cup in terms of missing chances?

Yep he would easily be taking home the Golden Boot if he could hit a barn door with a banjo. Kane will win it instead, on the back of one great match-winning performance (against Tunisia) and then a bunch of pens. I give you the top two scorers in the tournament! lol.

his first touch again let him down today, had a poor match today and against France and Japan otherwise he was on fire against Brazil.

I actually just came over here to mention exactly this in the match thread, but then found this one which specifically discusses it.

My lasting memory of the Belgium team from this tournament would have to be their amazing comeback win over Japan, and Lukaku`s missed chances. Too many of those. Belgium would`ve been playing tomorrow instead of today if he`d put to use even a third of those chances. The other players deserve their credit for regularly providing him multiple chances in every game from what I remember.

He still has the same issues from Everton, poor first touch.

Tbf he is always made to play up front on his own. It's not easy.

His 1st touch still hasn't improved. It cost him today and in the semi final.

Forgetting all the previous chances, he had three chances today, two of which any decent striker would have put away. Just not good enough. Cost Belgium the World Cup.

Ye he missed some chances but your highly exaggerating here, had he not bull dozed through the Brazilian midfield and setup DeBryne to score, Belgium probably would not have made it to the semis in the first place.

Maybe that's why I dislike him. But to be fair he has missed a bucket load of simple opportunities.

I dont think Martinez was able to get the best out of him other than the Brazil game then he went and changed the setup.

Lukaku excels when he comes deeper and feeds others to score, its how Jose has been using him, he has the strengh and skill to take on defenders and its why it worked against Brazil, had Martinez kept the same shape they would have done much better in the semi's.

Haven't seen much of him before the WC but doesn't seem to have the skill to use the first and most important touch to his advantage. Also seems rather slow.

Belgium looked miles better today when they subbed him off. I'm sure had he not played in the France game and they had Meunier available, they could have broken down the stoic French defense.

Different type of striker for this Belgium team. It's no surprise that JoMou paid 75mn (90mn actually, Rooney was let for free, with a book value of around 15mn), and as I wrote in that thread (best buy of strikers) - he actually out performed Lecazzette & Morata in Mou's system.

Against Brazil, he could carry the ball (run with ball on feet), against their defenders, same against light weight Japanese, but not against Varane, Umtiti, Stones & Mcguire - they can match him pound by pound. He was always a bit FTB, but last 2 games played exceptionally poor - which I think more than technical, it was an issue of physical limit. This season, Mou has played him over 50 games and 4000+ minutes to do this continuous ramming job, then he played every friendly/practice game before WC, and this was his 6th game in WC - he was just too tiered. For a guy like 6'3"+ & 200lbs+, he runs lot, and hustles whole time, just didn't have much left in tank.

First touch indeed is a problem, but Managers don't play him to distribute ball; he probably would have been a better forward for England, Sweden or Germany than this Belgium team. I am sure he'll come back strong again in August and score 20+ EPL goals.

some of his passes were exceptional throughout the world cup
