He averages 48+ as a List A opener at 87 strike rate.
Averages 35+ as a T20 opener at 115 strike rate.

Scored a great unbeaten 91 yesterday off 60 balls in a match where some big names such as the Akmal brothers and Salman butt were dismissed for a combined score of 5.

On the other hand, he has been averaging a mediocre 35 in First Class cricket even after 80 innings played.

So the question beckons, have we been selecting him in the wrong format? Is Sami Aslam actually a Limited Overs player?

I think so.Sami is a better LOI bat than in tests. He was superb in his under 19 career too.

Seems like someone who could excel in all 3 formats to me.

He’s shown his talent in all 3 formats.

Sami is an excellent ODI player and mark my words..he will become Pakistan's best ODI bat soon

We do not see a Pakistani batter make 169 off 128 balls while chasing 378 daily lol

I don't think his issue is the format, he just has a huge confidence problem

He's just a totally different batsmen when he's batting internationally, than what he does domestically

If he doesn't overcome his mental issues, he might be yet another domestic beast who can't accomplish anything internationally

He uses a different stance in Tests as opposed to in domestic LO matches. He was clearly using an open stance with earlier trigger movement which was giving him time to adjust to hit. In tests, he is able to do anything other than nudges and dabs.

He has a serious weakness against the short ball as exploited by English bowlers last year. Plus the standard of fielding is not really good enough in our domestic matches, there were a lot of lazy efforts in the field and drops, international fielders would have stopped a lot of his boundaries and extra runs and he would have gotten caught out real soon. Plus against Amir, he wasnt able to strike it yesterday who was the only proven international level bowler, he just rotated the strike against amir and feasted on Ghulam Mudassar, Talat and other raw bowlers.

Will end up like another Shehzad if he doesn't change his approach sadly.

This. For some reason he always looks low on confidence. He’s a much much better player than what his international stats say.Let’s see if he overcomes this problem.

Good point..that is the reason why Imam despite having a lower average than him has succeeded
Confidence plays a HUGE role
